DVD-ROM drive works, but does not appear in 'Computer' and discs can be played
I totally messed up my DVD - ROM drive. After graduating the famous blue screen of death once yesterday and once today, I thought that my PC settings reset would fix the problem. Then, I pressed F2 when my computer starts and resets all settings. Unforunately, this is something serious to my DVD - ROM drive. Initially, it did not work, so I opened my computer and somehow got it works. But now, it does not detect the disks I insert in there. I get the message "no DVD - ROM drive found."
Anyone know if it's fixable? I hope I don't have to take my computer somewhere for repair. Unforunately, I don't know the make or model of the hard drive. My the PC features that I think are important are listed below.
I watch this thread, so if I'm on my PC I will be notified by email of responses.

Satellite P20 DVD ROM drive may not be recognized
Hello
I just replaced my DVD ROM drive, but I had a problem.
It is a new DVD rom drive I ordered at TOSHIBA also.
It could not be detected by Windows:
-Tried to check on Device Manager, not detected
-Tried to reload the driver, the same problem
Note:
Whenever I tried to re - insert the disc, the blue light in the control panel of my P20 beds (I understand, which means that the P20 detects the drive) but I don't understand, is that why Windows XP does not detect it or it does not alarm or error messages.Any help?

CD/DVD-Rom drive does not not on Equium A100
I installed a webcam, and it made my DVD - rom drive does not not with all drives. I uninstalled everything to do with the webcam and it still does not work. Can someone help me solve this problem without using the recovery disk of the product came with my laptop?
I had this problem before, but I didn't the first time, it's the webcam that has caused the problem. It s webcam trust wb - 1400T. I had to use the product recovery disc and he had a lot of hassle to install all my programs again and this time I'm in the middle of exams and can't get it all done in time for my exams, as I have vital work on here I have to do.
.. .Please help me... I think it is the driver, but I don't know how to fix it.
Hi mate
> I installed a webcam, and it made my DVD - rom drive does not not with all drives
To be honest I have never seen that the webcam may have a negative influence on the internal CD/DVD drive.
I see really no connection between the webcam and ODD... very strange
Do you get any error messages?Anyway, in my opinion, you should try these solution ideas;
(1) remove the drive from the Device Manager CD/DVD and restart the laptop. After restarting again the operating system should recognize the STRANGE and should re-install the drivers.
2) access the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
.. then restart the laptop.(3) download and install the tool freeware "CCleaner". This tool repairs registry and solves several problems in System.
If this does not work, then the new installation of the OS would be wise to check if the problem could be related to a software problem.

My readers Optiarc DVD - RW AD-7530 ATA Device DVD/CD-ROM & the Bison Webcam built into my laptop. Does not work after I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 Home premium.
Although of course, the CD-ROM drive worked during the upgrade.
I noticed that when I turn firstly on the laptop, the last two lines of the front entry from Windows 7 are the following.
PXE - E6i:Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE Rom
During the audit of each Properties in Device Manager devices", I learned that they both work correctly. In the list in the printers and the @Devices the only Webcam shown is also a "USB 2.0 Camera"
Can someone help me please?
Best regards
JohnBesides what abdelhak says:
The message of PXE boot that you receive when you start your computer has nothing to do with your CD/DVD-Rom drive. Your computer uses a PXE boot method to attempt to load Windows from a location on your network. Since you do not have this configuration, it is safe to ignore it. If it slows down the startup time of your system, contact your manufacturer and ask them for instructions on how to "disable PXE Network Boot of the BIOS.
Hope this helps,

CD-ROM/DVD-rom drives will not play discs?... tried to be updated no joy... I tried the uninstall then re install just says code 39 error?. any suggestions?
Try following the steps under "Windows XP" in the article following the MS KB:

Vista Home Premiun Device Manager does not display my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
I recently tried to use my CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive and it did not work. It was working fine a few days previously but now... Nothing.
My first reaction was to open Windows Explorer, expand and look at computer. There was my C drive and the recovery Partition but no Opitical drive more.
Then I opened the Device Manager and saw that the CD was registered it is more as well?My question is
Vista automatically removes the CD-ROM drive in the list of Device Manager if there is a problem with the drive itself?
Or is there something that happened this suppression the CD-ROM in Device Manager list and it is not a problem with the drive itself?
I had a disc go bad before on a PC running Windows 98 and 2000, but the disc stayed in the Manager list but I'm pretty new to Vista and know things are very different. So before we get in panic Mode, I thought that it would be a good idea to ask where someone will know probably for sure.
Thanks in advance for clues

Hello
1st try a restore of the system if you have a point of return before it happened.
How to make a Vista system restore
http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-System-Restore-how.html-----------------------------------
If no joy:
Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive ejects do not.
Original title: DVD/CD ROM DRIVE
CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive ejects do not.
Hello
1 how long have you been faced with this problem?
2 did you recent hardware or software changes to your computer before this problem? This could be if the DVD player does not work or drive DVD tray is stuck. Check if the DVD drive light flashes when you try to use it. If you see the light flashes, it means that the DVD drive tray is stuck in the opposite case it means that the DVD player has stopped working. If the DVD drive tray is stuck then, I suggest you to contact its manufacturer. They would help you with manual opening of the status bar.If the DVD player does not work then, please try the methods below.Method 1: Run auto Locksmiths and verify.Method 2: Look for a yellow or red fringe on the device for DVD player manager and send back the same. Thanks and greetings

I just had my Dell Inspiron 1318 in the shop for service, and when she came back I had to reinstall a lot of my old software.
The Sony Optiarc DVD +-RW AD - 7640A DVD - ROM drive in my computer didn't have to be replaced at the shop and worked well for the first hours of operation of the system. I had reinstalled Office ' 03 and Roxio DVD burning software and it would try to install something else when the drive has stopped working.
I also run updates of the system before you attempt the installation of Office 2003, etcetera.
When I insert a disc in the drive, it produces noises as if she is trying to run or to read the CD before ejecting again.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2, almost completely updated.
I tried a system restore to the last point of operation disc drive, and then I tried to update my drivers. When he said that I had the more recent/better driver, I uninstalled the device and rebooted. Finally, I tried the Mr. Fix - it on the Microsoft Web site. Nothing has worked.
Anyone happen to know what is the problem? I need to have this drive works in short order and I really do not have to return the system to the shop for repairs more literally the day after getting it.
Hello
The Roxio probably malfunctioning filters and if so the 1st steps here that will correct.
If they do not solve the problem, then work your way through the rest as needed.Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
