ODI agent and virtual servers (VMWare)

Hello

We plan to move on to virtual servers (product VMware) in the near future.

Anyone had experience ODI agent running on a virtualized server. I can't imagine all the problems, but Oracle does not specificallly supports running on VM Ware (because they have their own VM product!).

Wondering just if theres someone out there who has tried this?

Thanks for looking

I agree, ODI and agents running on VMWare without any problems on many occasions.

See you soon

  • How to change the name of the ODI agent and port number

I installed ODI standalone agent (11g) on a linux server.  We now realize that we need to change the name and port number of the agent.  Is it possible to change these or do we need to re - install odi agent?

I know that I can change the name in the ODI, but I can't change the port number.  I would like everything to be consistent in all of our environments.  That's why we need to change the name of the agent and the port number.

How do you start the agent? Which command you use to start?

There are two ways, either by directly calling agent.bat and passing name agent and port don't start or you can run the sh/bat file created during installation (present in oracledi\agent\bin). The file name that is created should look like this (agent_localagent11g) where localagent11g is the name given during installation time and 'agent' is the prefix that was added by ODI.

There is no configuration file to configure the port number and agent. Make sure that the port number and name you pass to agent.sh must match what is configured in odistudio.

    Agent.bat '-PORT = 20910 ""-NAME = localagent11g.

  • What should I run VMWare virtual servers?

Finally, we are planning to buy VMWare/software license to run some of our servers. I'm new to virtualize servers. So here are my questions. We are looking at the VMware vSphere Standard 1 processor 3 yr E-LTU for HP. Here's what I need to know:

    1. Do we need for this special / software license if we have only one physical server with two processors?
    2. We need vcenter to manage our multiple virtual servers, if we only have a single physical server?
    3. If we vCenter to manage all our servers in a single vritual machine, what is the cost of the license?
    4. What is the difference between vSphere and vCenter? Do I need two to lead my virtual servers within a single physical machine?

    Any help is very appreciated.

    1. you must purchase a license if you want Service and Support of VMware - you can with the free hypervisor - https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere_hypervisor_esxi/5_1 - you would be able to add a purchased license within this server without having to rebuild. But please not there are limits to the free license.

    2. do you do not have need of Virtual Center - Virtual Center (vCenetr) allows you to manage multiple ESXi servers and can provide additional services if you are fired for this as High Availability (HA) - the ability to recover from a failure of ESXi host restart the virtual machines running on other hosts or Distributed Resource Scheduler - the ability to ensure that the necessary resources are provided to VMS

    3. I'm not sure what the cost is according to me not more $5000 -

4 vSphere is a marketing term that encompasses vCenter, ESXi and other products VMware - your will just the number of lapproriate to icenses

for ESXi who holds a physical base license

  • ODI agent oracle and mysql

    Hello.

I use 11.1.1.7.0 ODI, I supported oracle and mysql, ODI workflows configured ODI agent to help odiparams recognize the oracle drivers and I was able to start the workflow [without the guests and the agent is able to invoke automatically]. However, in odiparams, can we specifies the mysql drivers both oracle with credentials and start the agent?

Please advice how to do? I need odiparams configured to manage the agent for mysql and oracle drivers and must call workflow ODI without a manual.

You simply add jar drivers required for the drivers directory and you can use it in ODI agent

  • The Agent installation to view Vmware on a virtual PC on the player or workstation

    Hi all

We have a problem where by we have a PC running Windows XP with player installed on it.  Then, build us our image of default on PC and install the vmware tools.  We then install the Agent view on it, but he asks us for the default server which I don't want to specify at that time here.  If I do the above actions on an ESXi server then the Agent does not ask us for the default server.  I looking for the agent on the position of the player he can find on the ESXi server, but not on the drive?

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards

    Rob

OK, it's a summer product your unmanaged desktop "unmanaged" witch of office is defined as any machine is not running on an ESX Server.  You can reivew the instructions on installation for a desktop computer unmanaged on page 204 in the following link http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view40_admin_guide.pdf.   I'm sorry to say vCenter earlier, but for some reason it was sticking out in my head.

In the end, you will need to give the person the name of connection broker.

  • ODI Agents version 10 and 11

    Hello fellow users ODI.

I don't install ODI frequently and I do not install the ODI Agents frequently either. I want to what has changed about the installation agents.

    ==================

In April 2010, I installed agents and here are my notes for the process:

1 edit the 'odiparams.bat' file in the \ODI\oracledi\bin directory. There are some notes and directives in the file. It is important to put the environment at the good MASTER repository as follows:

    REM
    REM the Repository connection information
    REM
    Set ODI_SECU_DRIVER = oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Set ODI_SECU_URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@pax401ce032:1523:hypbgprd
    Set ODI_SECU_USER = ODIM
    Set ODI_SECU_ENCODED_PASS = hZyHWYZQhuThIa8ge32UYf
    Set ODI_SECU_WORK_REP = PROD
    Set ODI_USER = SUPERVISOR

    2. start the Agent listening and planning as a Windows Service

    AgentService - i - s PROD_ESSBASE 20910

    3. make the appropriate topology changes and to verify that the agent is running correctly

    ==================

So now its December 2011. I heard about our infrastructure consultant that the agent is no longer running as a service as we have defined above. I also read on the deployment of the Agent of the ODI as Java EE Application as described in the following link.

    http://www.Oracle.com/WebFolder/technetwork/tutorials/OBE/FMW/ODI/odi_11g/setup_jee_agent/setup_jee_agent.htm

    ==================

Here's what I want to know:

1: how many ways can I deploy the agent for ODI_11g? (I see not the command "agentservice" more.)

2: is there a simple way to run the Agent of ODI as a Windows Service?

3: I remember the old agentservice to be rather meager in terms of memory usage. Does this new J2EE / WebLogic service use more memory?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    -Chris Rothermel

Yes it is about the correct summary, I can't really comment on the use of memory by using the agent Java EE that I have not really had to use.

  • QUESTION: Extracting data Essbase and ODI Agent installation?

To extract the data of Essbase cubes, ODI has 'LKM Hyperion Essbase DATA to SQL'.
We can use (1). ReportScript, or (2). An MDX query or (3). CalcScript

For the extraction of data by using CalcScript, ODI Agent must be running on the same server as the Essbase server.

Anyone know if there is a need for ODI Agent on the Essbase machine if we use the method of MDX query for the extraction of the data?

We would like to avoid the installation of Agent ODI for Essbase-extraction of data.

    .

It's just for the Calc script method because it has access to the exported file, you should be fine with the other methods.

  • Virtual Server Vmware 5.1 group

    Hello

We have 2 ESXi host running several virtual servers. We would like to consolidate servers, but pools of resources is not recommended for this purpose. Other options in VMware that could create groups for our servers.

With pools of resources, we would have to decide and calculate which would need each set of servers. VAPP would add more complications as well. In the future that we could use both, but for now I have a better view of the customer, as most of the servers have names such as DNS, DB and APP so more confusing will lead to errors.

I prefer to use something like a folder for each group and add my DB, DNS APP servers in the folder.

    All useful ideas

    John

Welcome to the community - so if I understand your question you are looking to organize your virtual machines - with the hosts and Clusters discovered virtual machines are linked to the host or cluster design that they belong, and there is really no way to group virtual machines - your will have to do this in models and virtual computers discovered - here You can group virtual machines under independent records of guests and groups that they are run under-

  • Cannot ping between virtual servers on the same host

I have a 5 ESXi host with 3 virtual copies of Windows Server 2008R2 running on them. The ESXi host is connected to my switch, which has the Windows 2008 R2 DC to my test network and my laptop management with VSphere branch above as well. I can ping host, mobile and ad server of each of the individual virtual servers and can ping and RDP for all 3 from other devices not on that host, but I cannot communicate between the three. I have Windows Firewall disabled on all three. I have no firewall, and all machines have an IP address in the 10.0.0.X range I deleted then recreated the only virtual switch on the host on which appear all 3. I've been VERY frustrated for the last 3 days on it. Why my virtual machine cannot talk to each other?

When you have registered virtual machines in ESX you selected moved VM or Coiped VM? Go to editing parameters and watch the MAC addresses. My guess is that if you copied power (including the vmx files) then the MAC address is the same for all virtual machines. You can stop the machine and change for a MAC address mac address. You can also remove the network adapters, one of each, and then add the new network cards. Remember to reconfigure the IP addresses on the box and remove the ghost network maps after doing this.

Check this KB to change the mac address.

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=507

Also, can you connect to the switch and look at the ARP table and see if the system VMs register here.

  • Use virtual servers to ESX 3.5 in ESXi 5.0

    Hello everyone

First of all, sorry for my bad English. It is not my language.

So, I have a question. For the moment, let's have an ESX 3.5 Server 2 virtual servers. (Windows Server 2003)

Now, we want to improve our ESX 3.5 to 5.0 ESXi. We bought a new server on which we want to run ESXi 5.0. So is it possible to simply copy these virtual machines in ESX 3.5 to 5.0 ESXi? (Updated the vmTools) Or I need to reinstall all of these machines?

    Best regards

    Dominik

    Welcome to the community...

The new host (ESXi 5.0) is going to be autonomous? If so, you can use Vmware Converter to import the virtual machine to the new host ESXi 5.0

If you have the shared storage and assign to 5.0 ESXi host, you can remvoe the virtual of ESX 3.5 machine and it add new virtual host, VMtools upgrade equipment, etc...

You need to remove hidden devices that you are moving to new hardware.

  • How do I create redundant (or mirrored) virtual servers?

    Here's the senerio:

I have a server VMWare ESX 4.1.0 6 virtual servers (we'll call this server A server).

I recently bought a new 4.1.0 ESX Server and it is running 1 VM (we'll call this server server B).

Server is running out of disk space, while I pass some of these virtual servers to server b (this isn't a problem, I know how to do this)

    My question is:

1.75 TB of space Server B has 2 stores of data DS1 and DS2 has 930 GB of space

I want to spend most of the virtual servers of the server A to DS2 on server B then have these updated virtual servers mirrored on DS1 on server B, so that if there is a problem with the server mirroed on DS1 DS2 will take over and continue to run. I also want to reflect that I leave on A DS1 server on server B.

Is this possible? If so, how should I do? Thank you

If you have shared the infrastructure between the two you could use Fault Tolerance.

  • How many virtual servers by host machine?

    Hello

Another question, is there a method to determine how many virtual machines that I can host on one computer? Many people seem to ask this question, but I'm yet to find one another answer that wave "between 10 and 20 virtual machines" or "up to 50 vms' if I know what are my physical features and I know what operating systems and applications I don't want run on virtual servers, is there a way to calculate whether my hardware will be able to host virtual machines?

  • Copy the physical to virtual servers

    Hello

I'm trying to vrtualizing our server Park.  All domain controllers and file servers are running under two hosts of ESX3.5i.

We also have a member WSUS and AV win2003 server and an intranet server Debian with a lot of other running services.

It would be a lot of work to reinstall these two, and if I remember correctly, I heard about the tools that can "virtualize" a physical server.  I think it was by starting a kind of client CD and connect as a 'customer' to ESX and disk image of the physical machine processed and copied on ESX as a virtual machine.

We got ESX Server 3.5i with our new Dell PowerEdge servers.

    1. the process of 'conversion' above would be possible for us to our win2003 and debian servers?

    2. What is the success rate, and a lot of traps in this process?

    3. do we need to buy more licenses of VMW to convert these two...?

Thank you very much for the comments on this

    concerning

    Tor

Simply use VMware converter to convert the machines. No, I converted a Debian machine before, so perhaps someone else could chime in on this. You will have no problem with Windows-based computers.
