• VMware Converter 4.0 and Virtual Server 2005 R2 VM

  I downloaded the new VMware Converter (Version 4.0.0) because he had promised for the merger as a target.

  I remember posting on this forum awhile at the time where I realized first that the virtual server instance could be opened with a PC version of the workstation and I remember reading while the mouse pointer is a problem.

  So is there anything, I can do to get the Fusion tools installed AND have a working mouse pointer?

  Yes, it is removed from the control panel and you can try on virtual machine converted however, it may not work.  As before you convert you can do anyway that you presented.  I like to make a copy and use it as I want to do some other preprocessing and then I just remove it when I'm done leaving the original intact, but whatever way works for you is fine.

  I'll put up a virtual AD network on a virtual server installation.  The host machine is supposed to be portable (i.e. the LAN IP will change, and it may be offline from time to time).  I'm trying to set up the first machine on my network, the virtual domain controller.  I don't know what to specify for the default gateway.

  Currently, on the domain controller, IPv4 is configured as follows:

  1 = bridged network adapter

  IP address: 192.168.131.1

  Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

  Default gateway: (empty)

  Preferred DNS: 127.0.0.1

  Alternate DNS: 64.71.255.198

  Should I leave it like that, or specify one virtual network cards as the default gateway?

  Without a default gateway, you will not be able to route to the DNS server that you specified: auxiliary DNS: 64.71.255.198

  If you think you have all the traffic in your MS local virtual (hosting IE everything than ob this host and always keeping local traffic), then no DG not required, but I suspect you'll want to make the web etc as you go along, if you need a DG to be routable

  1. close the virtual machine in question

  2 remove the HARD disk that you want to extend

  3. in another data store make folder and move the VM HDD (vmdk) in this folder

• Report on the ability of virtual machines VMware Cluster

  We started to evaluate Foglight for capacity planning and evaluation. One of the reports that I believe is interested in our leadership is the "ability of virtual machines VMware Cluster" report.   It is based on the average size of the virtual machine in the cluster.  If you look at the dashboard of capacity management in the user interface, it can give you more details by cluster.  It is based on the average of the use of min/max/AVG across all virtual machines in a period given (usually 90 days).  This can not be changed today, but there is work to allow lets you specify a size of slot for something as small, medium, large, etc...

  This feature exists in the Foglight for virtualization, however Standard Edition.  It might be interesting to watch this, if you need it sooner.

• Activation of Windows still necessary even if the virtual server on the same hardware to restore

  Our virtual machine running vmware server ESX 3i 3.5.0 has 2 hard drives, datastore1 and datastore2.   All of our virtual servers are stored in datastore2.   Our hard disk with the datastore2 crashed and he had to be replaced.    We have backups of our virtual servers in datastore2 virtual appliance.

  To solve the problem, we replaced the hard drive crashed and then restored by using the virtual appliance backups, once restored, we noticed that the Windows 2008 requires that the activation of the licenses.

  My question is why does windows need activation when we restored the virtual server for the same hardware? The only thing that has changed is the hard drive.

  Export/import unfortunately OVFs does not have an option (at least I'm not aware) to maintain these settings. What you can do - when exporting the virtual machine as an OVF - also download the machine virtual . VMX and .vmxf files. After re - import the OVF, remove it the ESXi host inventory, download the two * .vmx files and add the virtual machine to inventory. -Once asked if you copied or moved the VM on the first power-select "I moved it.

  You will need four different IP for each virtual machine, and each VM will have a different MAC address generated automatically by vSphere.

  I have a virtual server running MS Server 2003 running on ESXi 4.1. I stopped the VM and has increased the memory allocated to this topic. Our Tests mit dieser Konstellation war aber eher ernuchternd. Möchte ich im Vcenter eine neue virtual Maschine importieren und wahle dann correspondingly die *.tib Dateien eines Acronis Backup aus, ich die Fehlermeldung "Die Quellparameter sind ungültig" out? MIT Acronis 9.x alles works correctly. Bin informiert ich, before, VMware should sharp actually auch Dateien in der 10er Version you can use? Someone as mich Hat yesterday eine Info, bin as jeden Tipp thankful.

• vCenter is virtual server - how to upgrade ESX host?

  Our vCenter server is a virtual server.  I've been thinking how to run update manager on the host ESX, vCenter is sitting on.   The only thing I can think of is to use the VMware Converter stand alone app and move the vCenter server to another ESX host and then start vCenter / Manager Update on the new ESX host to update the original ESX host.

  Is there an easier way?

  you have a shared storage?  If so, go to the host computer running the vCenter VM on, turned off, make a note of the data store that it is, remove the inventory, go to another host, browse the data store, find the vmx file, right-click "add to the inventory.

  .. .or you can use VMware Converter to move the VM vCenter.  Another way would be to turn off the VM vCenter and do the upgrade using the CLI interface.

  I'm trying to follow some easy tips using the vmware API.

  Using real project of samples in time I can get some values for the cpu, but I don't know what to do with these values.

  If I choose the number two options ("use of the UC in percent during the interval") I get a value of 2663. Divided by 20 (qSpec.intervalId = 20) it's more the CPU of the vSphere client is displayed.

  Can someone tell me what to do with this value?

  Maybe I just did not find good documentation, but for now the vmware API is a huge "?" for me.
