For the purpose to protect the computer against power surges and lightning put a computer in standby or Hibernate mode computer protection or is the computer always also vulnerable, as if it was on. Is it better to use the "standby mode", leave the computer or turn it off?

It adds no physical protection as well as possible damage to the components.  If it is in hibernation or hybrid sleep, it is protection against the loss of data, corruption of an incident because of the power loss (assuming that no ups is in use).

When the computer is "sleep" mode is in vulnerable to viruses that may be in a network system?

Better for what? The purpose of the standby or Hibernate mode is to give you a faster startup.  If you are concerned about the storm unplugging it is preferable.

It is better to turn off or leave my iPad in standby mode?

I let my off overnight, but connected to a power source to keep the battery charged.

Alternatively, you can stay in mode 'sleep' but just keep an eye on the battery.

If you don't see the percentage of battery on the screen, tap settings > battery then switch battery percentage ON.

  • Portege 7140CT Shutting Down in Standby Mode - cannot close normally

Hello. I bought a laptop Portege of CT 7140 for my son. It is a very good unit but has a "Shutdown" problem - only it used to closing, that is. It seems to power off, but the 2nd of the LHS on the front of the device flashes slowly. The user's guide explains what happens when the device goes into "Standby" mode I tried all the options of FN + F3 (off, standby and Hibernate) with no difference. I disabled the feature key installation in the Panel. I disabled the "Hibernate" mode in the control panel. All to nothing does not. Someone at - it an idea why this is happening and how can I solve? Hello

I never heard of this problem, but maybe to reinstall the system can solve it.
Or perhaps reinstall or update the BIOS will help you.
    I'm sorry that I don't have a better idea.

  • L50 - A - 160:USB of power in standby mode satellite is disabled but it STILL works

    Hi all!

    It's my L50-A-160.

USB power standby is disabled in the BIOS but it always on!
    Nothing helps.
As I can not turn off wakes on keyboard events. BIOS 1.30.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

    Hello

You are talking about sleep function & expenses supported by some USB ports?

Be aware that not all media ports USB Sleep & Charge and only marked with a small sign flash USB ports would give such function.
As far as I know on Satellite L50-A-160 only USB 3.0 (on the right side) would support this sleep & Charge USB.

The charge & sleep can be enabled and disabled in windows.
Go to desktop-> Office Assistance (in the task bar)-> utility tools & -> Control Panel

There you should find the different tabs and one of the tabs should have sleep & fresh / tab sleep & music which allows you to set advanced features for the mod, Hibernate standby mode and stop mode.
Simply move the slider to activate or deactivate the function sleep & Charge.

But the sleep & fees may not work with certain external devices even if they are compatible with the USB specification. In this case, turn off the power of the computer on the charging device.

You should also be known that when sleep & cool man of wake-up function is activated USB does not work for the compatible ports.

In addition, there is an option called function in battery Mode. This option can be used to toggle the sleep & Charge in battery mode. It also displays the remaining capacity of the battery.
Simply move the cursor to enable or disable this feature.

By the way: read the user 95 manual page. It would be useful for you.

    Hello

In my view, a Toshiba Power Saver must be preinstalled and there you should be able to enable or disable the standby or hibernation mode.

  • Switch 10 (64 GB, 1920 x 1200) - BSOD in standby mode (standby)

    Hi people,

I have a stable problem with my new Acer Switch 10, 64 GB model with screen 1920 x 1200 - if I pass automatically in standby mode (standby mode), I have about 50/50 to find it restarts when I come back to it - at some point during sleep, it falls in a "your computer has encountered a problem and needs to restart. It was 1 day of use - I encountered this already 10 times, that's why I decided to ALWAYS switch off the shelf by judgment. This is not very practical. I checked with BlueScreenView minidump files - error is still the same, catches of attached check screen

Should I send it to the service? WIndows is preinstalled, all including the BIOS updates are installed.

Minidumps can be downloaded here - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7Gf-eniqaBzdlBwa0pWeDhSNWc&usp=drive_web

After I've sent my crashdumps bugtracker VirtualBox I pointed a wireless driver for Realtek which seems to cause the problem. Unfortunately the version installed is the last provided acer.com on in support area - v3007.2. I had to look for a newer version of this driver and managed to find an HP website. More details can be found here - https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13902

The new (v.3007.6) driver for Realtek RTL8723BS wireless SDIO card can be downloaded here - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=ru&lc=ru&dlc=ru&softwareitem=ob-140101-1

In addition to solving my problem, it also fixes ad one when sometimes wifi connection becomes limited and no network do not appear until the reboot (or sometimes assisted flight mode). I recommend all users to Switch 10 update their drivers. It's a shame that Acer provides no drivers on the official site updated.

    Problem solved.

  • Cannot restart; Function F8 does not work; stuck at "restart windows." Put in standby mode.

Put the PC into standby mode.  Stuck in the status of "Recovery of Windows".  Impossible to restart.  Power off several times.  F8 doesn't work no more.

I don't think that XP shows a message "Windows Recovery" when it comes out of Stand By.

    It does when it's Hibernation.

If you've been cycling power, you can have damaged your system files a bit and should probably start by running a chkdsk/r from the XP Recovery Console.

    1. do you mean to say that the Standby button is greyed out?

2 How long have you been faced with this problem?

    3. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?

Check the question in the clean boot State and send the same return. Also, contact the manufacturing of computer for BIOS update.

  • Standby mode?

I read that the wireless flash drive 'off' after ten minutes of inactivity. I would appreciate clarification:

The reader has a standby mode where it can be activated wireless? (so that you can use in car remotely without having to press the button)

If so, the four hours of battery life is defined as four hours of read/write access constant, or four hours of such a mode "stand-by"?

4 hours battery turned on or continuously. WiFi radios are not turned off and there is no standby mode

  • Computer will not remain in standby mode.

I have a computer with Windows XP, about 5 years old who often will not remain in standby mode. After 30-45 seconds it starts again and the display shows again the office.

Does anyone have a suggestion/recommendation what to do about it?

Thanks, any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello JJLinker, welcome.

The issue is likely caused by "Wake by " settings in your power options. This gives a shot:

    1. click on START
    2. right click "My computer" and select "Properties".
"3. click on the tab"Hardware", then select Device Manager.
    4. expand the "Network adapters" category
    5. right click on each of the devices and select "Properties".
    6. on each, go to the tab "power management."
7 turn off the checkbox "allow this device to wake...". ' and click on 'Ok '.
    8. close all windows and restart the computer

  • Computer stops when it is in Standby Mode

Computer HP worked many years, now all of a sudden, when I put it in Standby Mode after a few minutes, she completely stops! When I hit the power button / I get tha warning Page indicates that the computer does not correctly turn off, and then it starts OK. I searched the forum and not seen someone with this problem. I am running Vista Ultimate SP2, 32-bit.

    Hi Kris,

Using registry scanners is not recommended. Windows has aSFC Scan tool built in which scan repair/replace the missing or files corrupted. What are your settings under sleep (Start > Control Panel > change when the computer sleeps >change advanced power settings > Expand sleep)?

  • BlackBerry Smartphones can access in standby mode

I just bought a Curve 8330 last week. Like it, but the mute has stopped putting the unit in standby mode. It seems doing nothing now. I have perhaps inadvertently pushed the toggle button up as the mute. Don't know why it would turn off. Has anyone else had problems with this? Any suggestions?

You can try to reset the unit? With the device on, just remove the battery for 30 seconds and replace it. After restarting the device, try using the sleep button

  • BlackBerry smartphones, what exactly is Standby mode?

In a quest to figure out how to activate the stop screen when I want to, I found the sleep mode, what exactly does.  All the manual says about it is to press mute to switch to standby mode, but does not say anything on this subject.  "Sleep mode", what exactly?  He always give me alerts calendar and phone calls and other alerts, or is he basically disabled?

    Jesse

The standby mode is just a low power state to conserve battery power. He closed the backlight and screen and does not meet the presses until do you wake. Your notifications, phone calls, etc. are not affected by it.

The case serves the same purpose: it has a magnet that is detected by the phone to put it to sleep. If you go to the notification / ringtone profile settings, you will notice 2 different setting: off the case and in the case.
