Omega CN8202 temperature control Labview (Serial Port, RS-232 Communication) Question

I'm a fidling perfect starting with Labview, as I just started with it today, so sorry if these questions are obvious.

I will work with an Omega CN8202 thermostat. As indicated in the title of the topic, one used uses serial communication and RS-232 Protocol.  However, the LabVIEW version is 2007, so I don't think that all the drivers here would work

Only, I want to be able to set a temperature on the CN8202 of a computer and no need to do something about the ramp or soak time. How could I change the drivers so that they would work in the 2007 version of LabVIEW?

There is no such thing as LabVIEW 2007. The current version is displayed when you launch or open the About window. If it is really longer than 8.0, then the version conversion Commission. Link is at the top of the page on the set of LabVIEW.

Thank you for your response. Using portmon, that we could determine the commands used with tools P7000. We have since modbus code embedded in the labview code and are able to control the speed and direction through the serial interface. I hope this fix can help others in the future.

  • LabVIEW Serial port wait event with Serial Termchar

    Hello world!

I'm quite new with LabVIEW and I'm having some trouble trying to communicate using the serial port.

I'm trying to detect a data frame with an 'X' as the terminal character sent to the serial port.

The problem is that with the VI attached on this post I am not being able to detect the chariot of the term series.

I tried to make some changes to fix this, but I can't.

In VI, I used a function of Type Cast when I was using the wrong ASCII for 'X' value, but it still the same.

    Can anyone help with this?

    Thank you!

This will work only if your message can never be more than 8 characters including the character. term set this value to 1000 or something that is guaranteed to be always bigger than the size of your message and all should be good.

Where are you drivers? You need to install the drivers for all your hardware, including the motherboard (chipset) and your modem.

    Bring:

    1. site of the device mftr. ; OR
    2. site of the card mother mftr. If the material is on board; OR
    3. website of the OEM manufacturer for your specific machine if you have a PC OEM (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the Web site where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

    1. read all documentation that you got when you purchased the computer.
    2. If the computer is OEM, access the site Web of the OEM for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
    3. download, install and run a program of inventory of the free system like Belarc Advisor or System Information for Windows.

    Hello

Eventually, the software that controls the serial port or the device connected to the serial port is not fully compatible with Win 7.
I think that this should be checked first.
Maybe one of you should look for the Special Forum of the manufacturer of the software for more details

  • Add card serial port of the Optiplex 780 desktop

I have a refurbished Dell Optiplex 780 compact desktop computer.  I would like to add an inexpensive PCI card that has two serial ports RS-232 legacy.  The description says that it is a "PCI to serial port card".  He mentions "for 5V PCI slot only."

I think the 780 will take this card, but I'm not well versed on the specifics of the new PCI standards.  This card will probably work?

    Thank you

    Jan

Typical PCI cards have one or two notches, according to voltage signalling. Cards requiring 3.3 volts have a notch 56,21 mm from the rear of the card; those requiring 5 volts have a notch 104,47 mm of the rear plate.  Universal PCI cards have two notches to allow them to be plugged into two system 5 v or 3.3 volt slots.

According to the Manual, the 780 has PCI 2.3.  PCI 2.3 supports 5 volt cards. Your slot machines are probably universal whereas they should accept a card with the notches or both. But be sure that

An important point is that the map you saw is low profile and full height. The manual said that 780 office accept "without editing card - up to two low profile cards. If you need to pay attention to the voltage more than just.

And the desktop version does not have a PCI-e x 1 slot, which means you need to find a PCI card.

Another alternative could be a USB > serial adapter cable.

  • How to transfer files from PC to PC via a serial port using labview

I need to transfer files (.txt, .doc, .xls) from PC to PC via a serial port using LabVIEW. Is it possible to transfer files, if so how to transfer?

Yes, it is possible to transfer files with the serial port using LabVIEW.  The files are just collections of bytes and the serial port is good enough in the expedition of the bytes from one PC to another.  You must connect the ports series with a null modem cable.

First, take a look at the example of serial communication.   In LabVIEW, go to the Help menu and select «Find examples...» ».  From there, you can search for "serial" or navigate to hardware input and output > series.  Select «Write series base» and Read.vi  Try this example to gain confidence on the serial communication methods.

Then it's time to learn how to read and write files.  For this, the examples might be somewhat confusing as they deal with files that are presumed to have data of a specific type in them.  I would recommend just familiarize yourself with the functions in the file e/s palette.  Specifically, familiarize yourself with the following functions.

    1. Open/create/replace file - on the side of your destination, you will need to create the copy of the file you are trying to transfer
    2. Close the file - when you're done reading or writing to a file, you must close it.  It cleans the memory used and finalizes write operations that are still floating in the write buffer.
    3. Read a binary file - is the best way to play a file when you don't really like what type of file it.  In your case, you just want to get these read bytes and sent so they can be written down instead of destination.
    4. Write to a binary file - next to the destination, is what will store the bytes in the file that you created with the number 1.
    5. Size of the file get (under the range of the advanced features of file) - you need to know how big the file is, so you know when you are finished.

OK, so once you are able to create files byte write and read bytes from existing files, you can move forward.

I suggest the basic method is to have the user specify a source file on the source PC, and a folder on the destination computer.  Then find the size of the source file using the number 5.  Divide this number of size by the number of bytes that you want to transfer to the times.  The series pads are usually around 32 k (if I remember correctly) in order not to exceed that.  Now start to send data by reading a number of bytes and this string output wiring to the feature of writing VISAS.  On the side of destination, you will want to monitor the serial port for bytes and read when they arrive.  This string of yarn to the writing of the function of binary file to add them to your destination file.

This is the basic outline of how to do it.  He needs to not to overload him write and read buffers on the serial ports.  Initially, you can use delays on the side sending to make sure that the side reading has enough time to digest.  To make things faster, you can bring in a control of flow.

If all that sounds a little intimidating, there are there Alliance member companies (such as the automation of PrimeTest) who can write this code for you and even provides a turnkey for you solution.

  • Serial port with LabView

    Hi all

I have some kind of project as a proximity matrix. Pretty much looks like 16 LED panels in the config of 4 by 4.

I need to create a GUI that can show what I physically see. IE: I have a block of LED that shows me the intensity or brightness of the LED is full or half of the intensity and I want that same value or data appear on the screen with a delay of almost nothing.

I use a PIC16f73 with IrDA sensors. The sensor sends the value of the ADC to the PIC and then send this value to the PWM port that controls the LED then this same numerical value, it will go to the PC via master/slave SPI communication.

Let's say, I have the entry value of the slave 11001100 and past by the master and then go to the computer via a SERIAL port, I want the lu GUI only and interprets this as a specific value and modify the intensity of this block on the GUI.

How can I do? I already attracts 16 Blocks (LEDs) using the LabView, but I don't know what to do to perform playback of the Serial Port and then interpret that and make a table of the eye and the screen will change the color from black to white depending on the intensity.

Can someone help me with this problem please.

  • communication serial port works to the max, but not in labview

    Hello

I am trying to connect a regulator to oxygen flow (flow Bronkhorst EL) to a laptop through a USB using MAX and Labview series port adapter. After the MAX aperture, I see my instrument on port COM5 and need to change the baud rate to 9600 to 38400. After this I querry the command: 06030101217D00\r\n, I can turn the mass flow at maximum power regulator (looks a little weird order because of the syntax of the instrument, but it works very well). If I write a vi to do the same and send the same string through visa series, I get no results, it seems that the command is not send to the device. I tried to change all settings for the serial port, nothing seems to work.

I've attached an example vi here, any suggestions?

    Hello

just a simple misunderstanding, happy that you added the code.

In MAX \r\n will be always interpreted as send a cr and line break.

In LabVIEW only when you select \codes view by right-clicking on the channel.

In your situation, it now sends a-a r another- and a n

  • reading photoplethysmograph waveform with serial port on PC using Labview

    Hello world

I'm gaining time real Photoplethysmography waveform of serial port using Labview.I have managed to acquire data from serial port by using the following features:

    -Baud rate: 38400

    -data bits: 8

    -stopbit: 1

    -No parity bit

-Time delay before reading the serial port: 10 ms (according to what was written in the manual that every 10 ms there is a frame in serial port)

After the reading string will be converted to byte array to be able to extract the bytes associated with waveform (1 & 2 bytes in a frame) even for SOP2 (6 & 7)

(what is read in serial port is in decimal and must be converted to hexadecimal based on what made the software of prodeuct for some result.that in the waveform properties, I chose the hexadecimal representation)

Then, as mentioned in the manual, I associate these two values to draw the waveform.

Although I used the filter band digital waveform of pulse but not significant pass that was seen (cutofffrequeny:10 high low cut-off frequency: 0.5).

I have attached my program and result in front of Panel and manual for the sensor. The result is still far from what is supposed to be. I was wondering if you could help me and let me know your opinion on the program and the protocol used. I have to get the result as soon as possible. Please let me know if you need more information.

    Kind regards
