Only, secure boot no noise or airport

eMac 1.42 GHz, 1 GB RAM, PowerMac 6.4 Power PC G4 HD 150 GB, 2005.

The machine has been lying idle for a month or two, and when I shot a few days ago it has initialized a blue screen, no 'start Mac OS' progress bar and then it turned black and had to be put off.

Boots in mode without failure only and start clone on Firewire drive or internal startup disk. Boot to the original installation disk so I used disc utility it for startup disc - no problem found - check and repair permissions.

What I tried:

* replaced the 3.6V battery backup - had fallen less than 1V - and reset the PMU.

* Reset PRAM, as well as the NVRAM using the commands from the terminal after the start of the command Option o f. When it restarted it again was the blue screen.

* has started in single-user mode and made fcsk - fy who finds nothing wrong with the startup disk.

* also in Single User mode makes the sh/etc/rc to start and stay in mode command KNEW that showed a lot of info. What caught my eye in particular was 'Boot Cache Control - could not start resource busy cache' and ' Boot Cache: cache init failed. " In addition, more far down was a whole bunch of errors mDNSResponder saying ' ERROR unknown opt 4 ".

In safe mode, preferences / system says 'No output device found' and the sound effects are grayed out.

In System Preferences / network is not airport, while the airport was previously working on an Airport Extreme card.

Configuration of the airport said 'no Airport card not installed' even if it is installed and working a few weeks ago.

In Audio Midi, it says output and input not supported, as well as "default of output - no" and the same for the entry. However, the commissioning of the chime so the speakers must be OK.

All this means that the video card has gone kaput? I don't know much about the technical side and how he knocked out the sound and startup functions. Looking for lights.

I had this eMac for 10 years or more and it was mainly used for browsing the Internet and some audio and iMovie but nothing very heavy editing. Also for Appleworks 6 occasionally. Wouldn't want to throw away.

The most convenient airport is disabled in earlier versions of Mac OS x Mode without failure.

A few things to try...

Remove the RAM and clean the contacts with an eraser, reinstall the RAM.

I have a problem with my Imac where I can start only in secure boot mode. The problem is that in safe safe mode SD card not only mount. I need the contents of the SD card. How can I manually force the SD card to get?

There are some things that don't work in Mode without failure.

See note in the article here, try safe mode if your Mac does not commissioning - Apple support.

    More specifically,.

For example, these features do not work in safe mode:

    • You can not play movies in the DVD player.
    • You cannot capture video in iMovie and some other video applications.
    • An input audio or output devices may not work.
    • Some devices USB, FireWire, and Thunderbolt is not available.
    • Wi - Fi networks may be limited or unavailable depending on the Mac and OS X versions you are using.

I have from time to time perform a safe boot when problems.

For secure boot, all processes seem to be loaded to RAM, the RAM usage is much higher than normal. When I restart again (not in safe mode), the use of the RAM remains the same that when in safe mode! I expect to get back to normal, but this isn't the case. • HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 532 s: 'Secure Boot Configuration' not found?

Hello support, I wanted to disable startup secure for my office.
I have a pavilion Elite HPE - 532 s Bios 7.15 I followed the step of many posts, but I don't have it under the heading "security"?
    I am on window 10 64-bit UEFI.
I wanted to disable, because I have a new GTX 960 graphics card and it stuck on the HP logo at startup all the time when I use the new card. !!

I tried to disable the security slot, but no matter what I do I get a black screen for my card both old and new so I have to reset the bios settings.
    Help me please.

    Thanks for the additional information.

    Here is my diagnosis/notice:

I don't think you'll be able to get the GTX 960 to work with this system.

Why it won't work in the UEFI/GPT:

It will not work in the UEFI [I think] 960 GTX is one card of UEFI and you must disable secure boot to make it work. Your BIOS is only "UEFI compatible" originally planned for Windows 7 [which does not support secure boot]. If you are unable to disable the secure startup, you can not use this card.

Why it won't work in legacy/MBR:

It won't work in legacy because it's a single card of UEFI.

    My suggestion:

Return to the legacy/MBR and use a graphics card that has a dual BIOS BIOS/hybrid or one who supports in particular the Legacy BIOS as described in one of my previous posts.

    Some other things to consider:

You PSU has enough power for this card? I think it takes a minimum of 400W PSU.

You connect the auxiliary power connector?

Have you tried to disable "Intergrated Graphics" in the BIOS [as appropriate]

  • HP Pavilion p7 - 1267c p: Desktop Computer has no option to dissable the Secure Boot

I tried and tried and tried and tried, but I found no option to dissable start secure on my computer. The only option I found is in my BIOS, that is to dissable the sources of the boot. Which does nothing, because the computer still does not start with the installed graphics card. The BIOS seems to be obsolete, with a version of 2011 compared to version 2012, I saw in the step-by-step procedures, but there is no update for the BIOS avalible. I have also entered the advanced developed boot Windows 8.1 and found nothing related to UEFI. I am frustrated beyond belief and would apreciate any help out there.

    Ryan, welcome to the forum.

According to the specifications of the computer, it came with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed.  This means that it didn't Secure Boot or UEFI.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  Your computer was released in December 2011.  Install simply earn 8.1 does not change the BIOS.

There is a BIOS update for the motherboard, but it's for Win 7.  This means that you will need to perform a system recovery to take the computer to its original with Win 7 Setup to install it.  However, it is not correct the problem you are experiencing.

If you try to install a 700 series card, they need UEFI.

  • Acer M5 481PT secure boot

I wonder if Acer plans to release an update of the BIOS for my Aspire M5 481PT disable Secure Boot.

    Current BIOS version: 2.20

    Currently, my only options are:

    (1) delete all secure boot settings

    (2) select a UEFI file as being approved for execution of

    (3) restore to factory default secure boot

    I've been reviewing the following...

Acer - how to enable or disable Secure Boot - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nG4zMdrHKs

    -OR-

Acer - access the UEFI (BIOS) configuration - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGiG1oljjZI

My system does not have one of these options. So, how can I disable it if necessary?

  • V3 - 771g S8 i7. V2.28 BIOS how to disable secure boot mode and allow to boot from usb/dvd

    Hi people,

Recently my laptop w8 shared with my brother get sick. So I decided to get out the trusty old diagnosis

USB and dvd, you know, ubcd centos ophrack. Much to my dismay, I couldn't start any of them. So after some faffing

everything on the net, I was able to boot/secure boot / disabled, which meant I could f12 at startup in the Boot Manager.

Unfortunately, the drama is over. Kindly listed boot manager internal hard drive, but not bootable usb or dvd connected.  so I thought, I'm going to be cunning and change the boot order of start. Yet once the monster of Bios Acer jeeringly laughed at my attempts to

take control of the material, I dared try control simply because I happened to pay a substantial amount of money to acer.

So, it seems, the only option I have left to change is boot/boot mode / (boot uefi/legacy). So what I need to change to restore the boot control, is to change legacy BIOS uefi? Who will install the w8 cack?

Also what happens if I want to replace the hard drive with an ssd in the near future, is not not to work?

Oh, I tried to get help from the enamel of acer, their response said essentially bios/uefi is isn't a problem acer because it is sw and realized

What seemed like a pay per minute service.

    Skills of good customer Acer.

    Any help appreciated,

    Hello..

  • I hate the secure boot and a permament legacy boot startup sequence.

    I'm a new 700-074 8.1 running office.

I have a Pavilion old Pentium 7-year-old who was running out of steam with new programs requiring a 64 bit OS and more memory.

    So, I got the urge.

I like the image of the entire disk to an external drive once a month via a USB connection through a USB 3.0 adapter.

I like the 2014 Acronis True Image program.

The program may take a bootable cd, or it can be installed in the computer.

When run in the computer, the computer must restart once the program installs a startup program.

After I did it, the computer went to a black screen and wouldn't start. Had to call HP.

I removed the program and decided to use the bootable cd.

Don't see the cd because of the secure boot.

With the help of HP, I was able to go into the legacy boot and download Acronis to run but he warned me that my target reader wouldn't start because it has been formatted to MBR and not GBT.

So I reformatted the external drive at GBT but it seems to reboot the computer is returned to the secure boot.

On my flag, I have had trying to start first on the cd drive and then automatically try the first hard drive of the computer.

I seems that legacy boot can start only once on a single device before returning on secure boot.

Is there a way to keep the computer in legacy mode and try in order the cd drive then the hard drive?

When you ACTIVATED 'Legacy Support' is not disable "UEFI". Peripheral boot UEFI still have priority and will start as such. The cloned drive should start just fine, as long as the UEFI / GPT boot structure remained intact on the clone.

  • Cannot boot from CD - DVD in LEGACY mode - NO Secure Boot UEFI NOT

You just bought an Optiplex 7010 minitower with Win 8 Pro 64 - bit, 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB HDD and an Intel i5 processor 3470.  Now he has BIOS version A16.

It is normally ON UEFI and Secure Boot on IT and F12 at startup does NOT normally display the CD-DVD as a boot option.  OK - no problem.

However, if I reboot with F12 and select UEFI OFF (meaning WE legacy) and Secure Boot SHUTDOWN and reboot, then F12 DON'T show me the CD - DVD as a startup option, but if I actually try to boot from a bootable CD, I get an error message.

I practiced with two CD bootable - a Knoppix I did on a XP machine an Aomei Backupper I did on a Win 7 machine.  These CD working as in my old XP machine boot CD, and the CD of Backupper of Aomei worked someone else machine Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

    What's wrong?

Again, please let me repeat that I am trying to boot from the CD-DVD AFTER I have turned OFF UEFI, turned on the legacy and off Secure Boot.

    Thank you.

Speed - although you predicted, I am amazed at what I did today.

I bought a second hard drive (in white) and installed Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 on it.  (I unplugged the first hard drive which has my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  (Later to figure out how to dual-boot - no not yet for that.)

What struck me is that I have installed SP1 for Win 7 Pro 64-bit while my BIOS is UEFI - it's ON UEFI and Secure Boot off.  (Enable Legacy ROM is enabled.)  BIOS is the Windows Boot Manager.  The Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 DVD ran perfectly on my CD - DVD unit - no problems of any kind.  The machine has restarted several times, as I adjusted it settings and added the resource of Dell Media CD drivers.

Disk Management displays only two partitions - a little with the legend "Healthy (EFI System Partition)" and then my C:\ drive, which is indicated be NTFS and 'in good condition (boot, Page File, crash dump, primary Partition).  The properties for the entire drive 0 said "Partition Style: GUID Partition Table (GPT).

Now - is it good or bad?  If one day I try to dual-boot, what is incompatible with the four partitions on my hard drive to win 8 (now offline)?  Install this fake Win 7?

I'm even more amazed than the Win 7 Pro 64 - bit auto installed SP1 with a product key that is different from the product key for my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  The Dell OEM Windows 7 installation disc done by himself - I don't have to enter anything.  Which is good news for a future dual-boot, Yes?

I have NOT yet connected to the internet.

Now, when I unplugged my hard drive of origin WIn 8, I disconnected the Sata data cable and used for the new hard drive Win 7 added.  If the new hard drive is connected to data SATA motherboard even as the drive of origin 8 Win.  Well, at some point when I use two hard drives, one of them should be connected to another plug SATA on the MB - but not yet.

Well... How do I fortunately to this stage so far?

  • no option in the bios to secure boot

Hi, I recently installed 8 64-bit windows and entrust the with my win 7 32 bit and my 14,04 64 bit ubuntu, but now I can not connect to win 7 or ubuntu. I looked online and it says disable secure boot, but my bios doesn't have this option (the motherboard is a ga-f2a85x-d3h, gigabyte), so I don't know how to turn it off so I can boot into those. is there a way to win 8 to turn it off, or do I just uninstall win 8? (need to access both win 7 and ubuntu, and was only to install win 8 because I couldn't upgrade win 7 32-bit to 64-bit with the same key (the installation disc wouldn't let me for some reason any).)

I tried now shift that I restart, and when he brings up a menu, it is not an option in there for the uefi framework parameters (as shown in the picture on this website: http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/installing-ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-windows-8-64-bit-system-uefi-supported).

    Hello

    Thanks for the reply.

I suggest contact you the Ubuntu support Forum as the partition where Ubuntu is installed are not recognized in the BIOS and that's why you get an error 'boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found.

  • Can't get running dual boot Linux (Fedora) and Win8.1 in UEFI Duo 11 & secure boot mode

    Hello people,

last year, I bought a 11 (Intel i5, 1.8 MHz, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD) Duo with Win8 (64-bit) installed in secure boot mode. December 2013 I updated the OS 8.1 with a new license and curled UEFI & secure mode active, a few days after I installed Fedora 20 64-bit.

Installing linux running properly, but I don't get any what startup, or UEFI GRUB menu and only earn 8.1 starts automatically. I checked the EFI partition: all files are installed in the appropriate directories.

Can someone help me get the dual boot running?

    Thanks in advance

    Michael Wachs

    Hello again,
Mission accomplished, I have a dual boot win8/fedora20.

Well, it was much more difficult than expected.

First of all, thanks to this guy, it's a bit more clearly how noncompliant efi bios on vaio actually works:

so, let's keep in mind that the start process seems to:
Look in /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi; If present, it starts.
Search in all subdirectories of /EFI/ for grubx64.efi. If present, it starts.
    Start /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi
Displays an error such as "The OS not found" message.

Now, that's how I managed to do so, please note that:

    • It's more a hack here-I-fixed-it rather than a clean solution, but it works
    • There is probably a more easy/better way to do
    • a step may be unnecessary (I will say that when I suspect, but I will definitely not return to test)
    • I'm Italian and my English is awkward

    (1) enter the bios settings, select the boot from cd/dvd and disable secure boot (this may be unnecessary and can be re-enabled at the end of the process, I don't really know at the moment)

    (2) use the Fedora dvd installation (NOT 'live' one since you will need the feature of 'rescue') (Finally, you can use a direct to start and then go up and chroot for installed partitions, but it is longer)

    (3) save the system installed, this should mean pressing enter three times and ending up in a shell

    (4) if all goes well, run:

    chroot /mnt/sysimage

    (5) go to/boot/efi/EFI and follow these steps

    mv Boot Boot.old
    mv fedora Boot
    cp Boot/grubx64.efi Boot/bootx64.efi
    mv Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi

Now, this way our graceful bios not compliant will not find Microsoft file and will head to Boot/boot64.efi (fedora one). Unfortunately, grub scripts does not detect windows, so we need to manually add Windows entry in grub conf.

    (6) take note of the UID of the EFI partition:

    grep /boot/efi /etc/fstab

(Well Yes, there are safer ways)

    (7) edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom and add this:

    menuentry "Windows 8" {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    insmod search_fs_uuid
    insmod chain
    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root A609-3B1E
    chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi
    }

    (8) now we will (re) making our new config (in our new location):

    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/grub.cfg

I fear that this step will be necessary whenever there is an update to the kernel

    9) restart with fingers crossed

Oh, I currently have a working dual boot windows 8 / 20 on my vaio fedora.

My biggest fear this time, it's some obscure windows update could restore the original Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi. Finally, I could rename it again, still, it would be boring. We'll see.

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

  • Why can I not select a channel update for only security releases?

It is a development machine. I write software that works in browsers, including yours. I would like to keep your current browser regarding versions, except that the framework that I use does not always keep upward. I'm trying to catch up with your security releases. Which is certainly worth the risk and effort. Your information, explains that "releases" set current channel "includes" provided security. How about an update channel which contains only security releases?

And also, how do I know the number and properties of an imminent update? I only have a button to install a version. No information of what I install.

Looks like your server isn't aware UEFI.
Try changing the the CSM UEFI Boot Mode in the BIOS under the Advanced tab, under System Configuration. You may have to disable Secure Boot first.
