  • Windows Update service works only on Vista Home Premium 64 SP2

I am running Windows Vista 64 Home Premium SP2 on an Acer Aspire 6930 with 4 GB of Ram and IE version 9.0.8112.16421.  When I try to update windows, he said the service is not running, and maybe I need to restart my computer.  I rebooted and got the same result.  I checked the services and update service and BITS show to run normally.  The laptop was turned off and not connected to the internet for more than a year.  Can someone help me with this problem?

    Hello

Follow these steps to clear the software distribution folder.

    1. click on start and run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

Note on a Windows Vista computer, click Start, type services.msc in the search box, click services.msc and then click Run as administrator.

    2. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates and then click on stop.

    3. reduce the Services (local) window.

    4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note by default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the folder drive: \Windows\SoftwareDistribution. In this place, the drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.

    5. make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then enlarge the Services (local) window.

    6. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates, and then click Start.

7 restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

  • where the fax on windows vista edition Home premium? I went to start, all programs, accessories, do not see a selection for communications.

This is where the video clip on youtube says I should be able to find it.

The versions of Vista Home didn't have a fax MACHINE.

    You need 3rd Party Software:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/reviews/Snappy_Fax_2000/snappyfax.html

Snappy Fax allows you to send and receive faxes from your computer. You can use your scanner to scan documents and then sent a fax to any fax machine, or use the print command other applications to use the virtual fax printer, allowing you to send faxes directly from most Windows applications. In addition, the program also supports faxes sending via the internet, filtering of unwanted faxes and transfer incoming faxes to other fax or e-mail addresses. Additional features include import address book, faxes by email (with zip for images support), OCR, spell checking and much more.

  • My desktop with W7 home premium HP computer does not start beyond the initial screen of HP.

I had been doing "Master Boot Record error press any key."  for the latest two boots.  Press any key boot the computer and initialized in W7.  But, when I tried to start the computer again, he did not get beyond the initial HP screen with choice... F10, esc, F11, F12, and F9.  By pressing the keys are not going anywhere.  When I pressed ESC, I got "Loading Boot Menu... ', , but does not load the start menu. I tried to boot from a DVD, but the DVD/burner burner did not run.

When the computer is turned on, the fire HD came a few seconds... .but then nothing.

    Solution?

    Thanks again, Hanspuppa.

I found the problem.  I removed the CMOS battery and reinstalled.  It seems to work OK now.

  • No upgrade option given when you try to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium with version complete DVD

I am trying to upgrade to Windows 7 on my Lenovo x 200 tablet which is currently under Vista 64-bit.  My first attempt was with a version of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit which, once started let me choose the upgrade option but then I notified (obviously) that would work to upgrade Vista 64 bit to 32 bit 7.  Since I also have a DVD of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit, I moved forward and put this disk to try to upgrade.  However, when I run the Setup it goes right to the choose what partition I want to put a new installation, do not allow me the upgrade option at all.  Why is this and how do I fix this if I can do an upgrade rather than a new complete installation then I won't lose all my programs and others and end up with a folder of big 'windows.old '?

Which edition of Windows Vista are you attempt upgrade from?

If they editions do not match, you will not be able to make a place in the upgrade:

When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.

If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:

Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise

Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.

I run a Trend antivirus protection.

What is 'the Windows Gallery Viewer "? Is it the same thing as "Windows Photo Gallery"?

You can get wireless files you need for Windows from the manufacturer's website so that they are not mixed with Mac files?

If your files are on a CD, copy the entire CD in your Documents folder makes them visible?

It may be necessary to show both hidden and system files and also uncheck 'Hide known file types' in Control Panel / folder Options / view to see all the files?

These files can be copied to USB and seen on another Windows computer or they are hidden on this other machine too?

My apologies for not understanding your question.

    Hi S RAGAN,

I suggest to perform the clean boot on your computer and check.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Please follow the system in the boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to an application or a service, we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to reactivate the disabled one by one element to find the culprit.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

  • I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2. Is there a way to delete records of only updates of failed or cancelled in the history of Windows Update?

I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.

Is there a way to delete the records of 'detail' of only updates of failure or cancelled in the history of Windows Update?

I just installed hotfix for Windows (KB947821).

It looks like a lot of my earlier 'failed' and 'Cancelled' updates are automatically updated and installed, and successfully, I might add.

Some dates in some records do not seem much sense. I guess I'm looking for a way to select the records, I want to get rid of.

    Help?

    Hi Jeffrey,.

It's not really a taken way in charge to remove only the cancelled or failed updates. These are taken from windows logs and displayed in the history. Steps that Jose post is a way to remove all files in history and will remove all updates as well as a failed/cancelled updates successfully.

  • After you have reinstalled Vista Home Premium 32-Bit with Service Pack 2. Windows recognizes only 958 MB 2G of Ram. The processor is AMD Turion 64 X 2 1.80 GHz 32 bit

    Hello
I have a hp Pavilion notebook PC with a new motherboard.  After you have installed Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, I noticed that Windows only recognizes 958 MB 2 GB of RAM installed.  No one knows why this is happening and how can I fix or troubleshout the problem?
    Thank you, PD777

    Hello

How is your memory configured? that is, what is 2 x 1 GB modules or module 1 x 2 GB. If the former I would check the physical installation of the modules on the MB memory.

Vista 32 bit should see up to 3 GB, I doubt that it is Vista the cause.

Another thought, are your shared graphics? in some BIOS, it is possible to ask the system to use a fixed amount of RAM the GUI system, this memory will not be included in the complete system.
