Open a JPG file in Photoshop. Which opened in Photoshop is now a PSD file?

Yes or no?

Hello

The JPG will become a PSD file if, for example you: file > save as > Photoshop

After recording, then, the image suffix will become: my_image.psd

  • Why a jpg file size grows when I OPEN it in Photoshop before you do anything for her?

I open a jpg file which my trusty Mac tells me is 2.4 MB, but Photoshop has immediately 34.8 Mb in size of the image. It is a picture of 72 dpi which is 59,333 inches width x 39,556 inches in height. I want to REDUCE it to one 17 "(approx.) size 11" for printing, which allows Photoshop to increase the resolution. I UNCHECK resample, and enter a width of 17. I have 17 inches wide; 11,333 inches and a resolution of 251,294 inches. Great! What I don't understand, however, is that - without Photoshop add no matter what pixel (remember, I REDUCE the size of the photo without resampling) - the size of the file is more than 14 times larger. The same thing with each jpg Photoshop I opened: 129Kb photo opens in Photoshop to 482.6 Kb; a 1.2 MB file opens to 5.49 MB, etc. I didn't not do anything at all, but open them. Without a doubt, it's something I should have learned (maybe you) long, long ago, but it has baffled me now. Very grateful for any help.

The size you see in the finder is the compressed size. When you open it in Photoshop, you can see the enlarged size.

  • Cannot open JPG files in photoshop, error "could not complete your request because the file is not found.

Cannot open JPG files in photoshop
Has anyone ran into this problem? Photoshop worked perfectly in the past and the other day I noticed that I can't open all the jpg files in Photoshop (tried all the usual ways to circumvent the opening problem), I get the error message: "Could not complete your request because the file was not found." I know that JPGs are fine, as they open in other applications. My work-around for the moment, is to open in preview mode before and export as a PDF file, then open the PDF file in photoshop, however, this is not ideal.
Someone at - it in the case, or have a fix
    Any help much appreciated

    Hi Dan,.

Please install camera Raw from following link: Camera Raw of Adobe Photoshop CC and CS6 Installer

Once done, open file Jpeg, you shouldn't get the error more.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 won't open my jpg files

I'm sure this problem has something to do with my cat who loves to sit on my keyboard and make havoc, but since yesterday, when I try to open a jpg file, nothing happens.  I just do what I normally do, file > open, and then navigate to the jpg format, but given that this latest incident of cat-sitting, when I do that the jpg does not open.  I have nothing but the big gray Photoshop home page.  I hope that someone has seen this before and can tell me how to solve this problem.  Thank you!

    Hi Jen,

I'm sorry but I LOL'd seen your post - the cat sitting-on-your-keyboard contraption!

I do not think that your cat might have messed up your keyboard - because if this is the case your file > Open (with mouse) should work!

Moreover, since your Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows), you can right-click an image file / PSD files and open with > Photoshop Elements to see if it opens?

BTW, you mentioned you see "Screen in Photoshop" - are you on Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? They are 2 different softwares.

  • I can't put the photoshop CS6 as default program to open jpg files on my windows 7 64 bit computer?

I reintalled 3 times for CS6, but the default program associated with the jpg file is always unknown application.

I try to change the default program, I see the photoshop cs6 icon in the Adobe program folder.

    But just can be selected.

I recommend you contact Support Adobe for this playing with registry is very dangerous, that your computer may crash.

Still if you want to try, first create system restore point and backup of your registry, just in case something goes wrong.

In regedit: go to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications and find your .exe name.

Sail under its name of shell > open > order. In the default change its location to the actual location of the executable file, press OK and then try and reassociate the file type as you normally would.

  • Open the large jpg file

I was scanning a roll of drawings on a scanner large format, and I found myself with jpg which are superior to 30 k pixels wide. (I understand that it is a limitation that PS has)

The question is, I spent hours all these rools scanning, and now I have a few jpgs that are very large (45 k x 10 k pixels), that I can't open at all).

Jpg files open fine in the windows Viewer, so I know that they are not corrupt.

If I can find a way to open, I can then resize a bit to fit in the limit or save them under (PSB - large Format).

Someone had to deal with this before?

One of the ideas I had was to find another software that I can use to open and save again, or to split the jpgs in 2 or 3 pieces and then rebuild them back in Photoshop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  • JPG files are open as a layered PSD.

Photoshop can be updated in the future so that he can open JPG files as a layered PSD.

The jpeg format does not support layers. But there is nothing to stop you opening a JPEG, adding layers and saving it in a format that does not support (psd, tiff) layer.

  • Adobe Reader DC - cannot open jpg files

After you download ARDC and set as default (HLTA) program I can open existing jpg files by simply clicking on the file.  The only way to open the files is to open the ARDC, click Open, browse for the file and then click Open which then does not open the file.  Before you download ARDC I could just click on the jpg file icon and it will open without having to go back to Adobe.  I am operating Windows 7, the browser Firefox, Microsoft Windows Live Mail. Also, before you download ARDC I could click on a jpg attachment in my email and the attachment opens.  Now, I have to save the attachementito folder my documents, open ARDC, click Open, locate the file, and open it.  Any suggestions please.  Thank you.

    Hi Rahul

Thanks for sticking by me.  I tried the 'Repair Installation', but nothing happened.  I decided to remove Adobe Reader from my computer and reload.  Interestingly, I couldn't remove using the standard uninstall in Control Panel.  So did uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller and cleaned out of files attached and then downloaded Adobe Reader DC on the Adobe site.  Now, it seems to work as it should.  so, once again thank you for your efforts.  Wish you a great Christmas and all the best to you and yours in 2016!

  • Are there benefits to open a jpg file in RAW in PE7 format

I have just fallen on the command "open as" and found it opens my jpg files and I was wondering if all work in this area was worth experimenting. My camera won't take RAW so this isn't an option. Or am I better not waste time to experiment and change in the normal PE options?

There are advantages to opening RAW files not in the window of the cab.  Of course whether they are valuable to you, or not only you will know.

First of all, these adjustments are related to the treatment of the image and no image editing - there are subtle differences.

Second, any treatment you are doing here is not destructive that changes are not "done" in the data of the final image, but occur as a set of instructions in the image file who have replayed when you view it.  A slightly less obvious advantage is that the order in which you perform the adjustments is not important, but as a rule of thumb that you work the high control down.

Third, the control names are a little more intuitive, in my opinion.

So the most notable advantage is that treatment changes you made can be cancelled at any time in the future.  Unlike a normal JPEG edit that changes the data of the actual image and can be difficult to undo.

  • Impossible to get the JPG files to open in ACR

    Hi all!

I just reinstalled CS3 (and the 10.0.1 associate patches) on a new MacBook Pro and I can't get the JPG files to open in ACR.  I checked the checkbox is set to on screen preferences Camera Raw 'Always open files with settings using Camera Raw JPG', and my NEF files open in ACR very well, but will not open JPG files.  I have the same problem with TIFF files... I have the box ticked, but when I drop the files on the Photoshop icon, they right in CS3, not open cab.

I can get him to open in ACR by choosing open..., by selecting the JPG file, and then change the format to "Camera Raw", but this does not work in my workflow with Lightroom.

Has anyone seen this problem and know a fix?  It's a setting somewhere?  My old laptop is configured exactly the same (I think), but JPG files will open directly in ACR without problem.

    Thanks for any idea... appreciated!

    John

For CS3, you have the right settings in ACR preferences, preferences of Photoshop and preferences of the Bridge .

  • I get a message that the request for assistance does not exist when I try to open a jpg file or files in excel attachments. I have associated use windows live photo gallery

I went to tools, Options, attachments and there are associated programs that should be able to open files - Windows Live Photo gallery for the Microsoft Excel for excel files and JPG files. I actually download and save the files and then open them. Is there any solution for this?

Go back and delete associations and start again by opening one of these files. Thunderbird will recreate the Scriptures based on your choices and they will then probably work.
