  I used it several times without fail. After that the laptop started acting a little strange recently (malware maybe) I decided it was time to rebuild. This time, I had 'bad machine' attempt of recovery CD error. I installed the brand new Toshiba HD, but still the same error message.

  I've searched and searched and find it is a 'classic' error but with many varied suggestions correct - which none had me up and running.

  So I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

  It is model Toshiba U.S. and so I looked on the Toshiba page for some suggestions.

  As suggested in another thread, the information stored in the DMI may not correspond with the info on the recovery disk and so this message appears.
  I don't know if the doc of Toshiba will help you but it s worth a try m.

  If you will not find a good tool DMI, then you will need to request the ASP in your country a DMI update!

• Satellite M35-S456: hit error - recovery 'Thotkey' failed

  My laptop Satellite M35-S456 of 2004 Gets an error during startup.

  Titled "Wrong hit", he said:

  I can use my touchpad, but I can't use the Fn key or the Play, Stop, forward, backward buttons on the front edge of the laptop.

  Where did you get the drivers?
  As far as I know, this is an American unit and you must download the driver form Toshiba site us.
  The driver for the touchpad is NOT responsible for the FN keys and not the buttons of Toshiba.
  You need Toshiba controls to use the buttons. If you want to use the FN keys, you will need different drivers as Toshiba hotkey utility to use the FN + F5 key combination.

  But nevertheless I advise to use the Toshiba Recovery CD for this problem.

• Satellite M35 - brightness works only with Windows XP SP2 home edition

  After formatting and installing XP SP2, the BRIGHTNESS function keys do not work. Can anyone tell me please what type of drivers I need to download to get the job of the brightness? I tried to install Power Saver from Toshiba site BUT I get error messages. Not sure if this driver is for XP SP2.

  Try please install Toshiba Hotkey Utility for display for Windows XP devices. I put t know if just this utility is responsible for this, but is that you need to install all the specific stuff from Toshiba and the combination of these result of tools with full functionality.

  you could look it up if the Configfree software is already installed on your device. You can then create a new shortcut on the desktop by right-clicking the program "cfmain.exe. It should now work!

  you uninstall the software and reinstall from the CD of utilities and tools of Toshiba. If you do not have the CD, you can download the last Version of Toshiba Amerika

• M35-S359 - need WXP Pro CD recovery (or drivers)?

  Are there recovery M35-S359 XP PRO (SP2) CD or drivers that I receive? I have the CD Home Edition, but it does not help with the brightness of my screen.

  I am mainly interested in getting the function keys to work to make the screen brighter. All the other drivers, I was able to download and install successfully. BUT I have problem find the function key drivers. I tried to install Power Saver and install Hotkey. The energy saver fails to install and the installation of the shortcut key did not help.

  Any idea? Thank you in advance.

  As far as I know all the drivers, tools and utilities can be used with WXP Home and Pro. There is no difference. If you have installed the Pro of CD version of the version full of Microsoft, you must install all the stuff only Toshiba. Your device must be an American model, and everything else you need you can find on the download page of Toshiba U.S. under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp

  I have a Satellite M35-S456 of Toshiba laptop purchased in the USA in 2004.
  It came with recovery-DVD which includes the WIN XP Home Edition operating system.

  The hard drive is broken and must be replaced by the new hard drive. I bought the replacement (for Toshiba) drive from an independent retailer in the city and tried to apply recovery-DVD to install WIN XP. It does not at all. Installation data fron DVD the disk copy has been posssible, but then the screen stays black and silent.

  I've heard rumors that Toshiba installs a certain image on the HDD when laptop fate of plant.
  This image is necessary whenever you want to re - install WIN XP Recovery DVD.

  However, the replacement drive does not have this image.
  Installation of WIN XP with my DVD of recovery seems impossible at the moment.

  What can I do now?
  All I need is a new disc that allows using my recovery DVDs for the reinstallation of the operating system.

  Only the new series of laptops is equipped with HARD drive recovery option and the image of Toshiba is placed on the second partition.
  But your oldie was delivered with Toshiba Recovery CD and you might recover the laptop using the recovery disk.
  Usually you simply boot from that disk and the recovery procedure should begin.

  If your recovery disk is broken or failures, then you could use a CD simply Microsoft Windows and could boot from that disk.
  The Toshiba drivers needed could be downloaded on the page of the Toshiba driver us because this model seems to be an American series.

  If this button doesn't work so I would recommend to reinstall this app and start the unit.

  My dvd - rw is no longer work and must be replaced. I started this adventure in position directly on the Toshiba site to order my disc replacement on their part. Toshiba provided to order my replacement is a dead link. Given no option to replace my drive by Toshiba, I had no choice but to look elsewhere. I finally found a dvd - rw, the same brand and model, but alas, I have IDE dreaded #2 in startup error.

  I put t know what you mean less difficulty it but we know that defective optical drive will not be repaired but exchanged. Usually in the user s manuals document there is a list of all compatible optical disk drives. I put t know if the same situation is in US, manual s user (I presume M35 is model laptop us).

  Hi, my laptop Satellite Pro A10 displays IDE #1 error whenever I try to put it on. This message is all I get, even if it is shown for a short period of time - the laptop always comes back to this message, it tries to load blanbk of the screen just go and then this message appears every time! I was wondering if someone could explain what this means and how can I solve this problem?

  This error occurs if there is a problem with the CD/DVD drive. For example, this error occurs if you try to use the incompatible reader. It will be interesting to see what happens if the drive is removed.
