Opening documents InDesign CS5 to CS3?

I found this useful article on how to open a CS5 document in CS3.

http://help.Adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/CS/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6d4da.h tml

Unfortunately it doesn't because I need to have the CS4 in order to remove it. I have only CS3 and CS5. Is there another way to get InDesign CS5 document in CS3?

Help, please!

The only way to get CS3 to CS5 is through CS4 CS5 does not know .inx and CS3 does not .idml. You will lose all the features that are not supported, and you should expect differences in line because of the differences in text engines. To come back really isn't a recommended workflow.

What is the compelling reason, and how many files you need to convert? A number of us would be willing to do one or two for you, but as I said, this isn't a good workflow, especially if they do a round trip.

I hope someone from Adobe can help me with this question. Here's the scenario:

I'm working on the support team in a prepress environment where we get hundreds of files InDesign customer provided per week. Some customers provide their files in InDesign CS3 and some provide files in InDesign CS4. We have two applications.

From our experience, we found that if we open a document, InDesign CS3 with InDesign CS4, there is potential for the elements in the document. I don't know what is happening from 3 to 4 to cause this problem. This happened to us several times and we have experienced losses of money owed on the errors of the press.

One could say, as we have, if the document is provided in InDesign CS3, working on it in InDesign CS3. Pretty easy, right?

Well, not really. If you have CS3 and CS4, both as installed on your mac at the same time, simply by double-clicking the CS4 default file (because it is newer).

We said to our operators that they need identify which version of the file was created is not the easiest thing in the world either.

If you 'get info' on the file, you don't get accurate information. He can say "CS4", even if it's "CS3", I think it's because your system is reading the application newer than you have to install is.

I found that by dragging the file to the CS3 icon in the doc, it will attempt to open the file in CS3 and if it is really a CS4 document, you will get errors in plugin and the file does not open. It works, but my 38 mac operators are so used to simply by double-clicking a file to open it, they sometimes forget to do it my way, and it is when we receive errors.

Y at - it a plugin available that would make you, when double - click on a file as to which version he is or which version you want to open the file in InDesign?

What has changed the Adobe in InDesign CS4, which would cause things to disappear or change when working on CS3 CS4 documents?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Freezing when opening files Indesign CS5.5

I have trouble opening files CS5.5. I designed them in CS3. Then I had CS5.5 and open in that and saved.

Whenever I'm trying to reopen they freeze. Specifically, if I double click on a file, Indesign CS5.5, it freezes EVERY time.

If a cannon ball that he Indesign CS5.5 icon in my dock, it freezes regularly every other times - asking me if I want to postpone the recovery.

My libraries of fonts and caches are clean. I ran nuke of fonts. I installed Suitease Fusion 3.

I thought that this might have to do with Helvetica Neue conflicts. My document uses this font.

I made out of the fonts open automatically in fontbook and Suitcase Fusion 3.

    Any ideas?

Must be somewhere in your user library, I think. I'm on Windows, so I don't have the exact path. If it is similar to Windows, look in Hard Drive/users/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign ///.

  • Open the document in Indesign cs5.5 server

    Hi guys!

I have a problem when opening documents in CS5.5, I upgraded our Indesign server CS3 CS5.5 and using the indesignserver api for Java.

I'm under Jboss, J2EE, CORBA, and CS5.5 with 8 instances.

When I open multiple documents *.indt I get "Please close one or more documents Adobe InDesign Server or books or libraries and try again." It seams that Indesign server is locked

the file. If I did not load the indesign has no problem. I read the new API and I open the document with:

com.Adobe.IDs.basics. ApplicationOperations. Open Throws (VariableType , OptOpenOptionsEnum openOption) IdsException

    My code:

    VariableType vtDocument = application.open (VariableTypeUtils.createFile (documentFileName), OptArg.noOpenOptionsEnum ());

    Document document = DocumentHelper.narrow (vtDocument.asObject ());

I don't really know what are the OptOpenOptionsEnums available and sending in no option, I think that the problem is here, because in CS3

I don't have to send the OpenOptionsEnum to the open method.

What kind of OptOpenOptionsEnums is there to choose?

Anyone get the same problem? solutions?

    I found a solution!

I looked at the Javascript api for the OptIOpenOptionsEnum and took the number enums and created new OptOptionOptionsEnum in java:

    OptOpenOptionsEnum open_copy = OptArg.makeOpenOptionsEnum (1332757360);

    OptOpenOptionsEnum open_original = OptArg.makeOpenOptionsEnum (1332760343);

    OptOpenOptionsEnum open_default = OptArg.makeOpenOptionsEnum (1147563124);

And then simply send in one of the OpenOption which fits your needs as the second argument to the open method, as follows:

    VariableType vtDocument = application.open (VariableTypeUtils.createFile (documentFileName), open_default);

  • InDesign CS5 to crash on launch due to problem of fonts auto-activateur

I had a problem where all the work I had been collecting would be more open in InDesign CS5 without crashing on startup. Just found out today that this has to do with the new feature in CS5 that reads fonts in your folder 'Document '. Once I renamed the folder files started opening up again. Is there a way to disable this feature in InDesign, or someone else has found another solution that does not involve renaming the folder on every job that I collect?

I'm sure this is a known problem now, but I don't see anything happen when I did a search.

    It's an interesting Enigma...

On the one hand you KNOW have two fonts with the same name but different types will cause a problem, but however ID will want to activate a font of this file, if it does not find the same police already active. When released, T1 fonts were not supported by the installed fonts in the Document, but I think it was one of the things added in 7.0.2 then maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all.

  • inDesign CS5 and CS6 inCopy workflow problem

I looked further discussions and did not answer the question to our problem.

We are a small publishing company and we have the license for about 7 inDesign CS5 best we bought a year ago.  We have contracts with external publishers to change content for us using inCopy.  Last year, there is no problem.  But any new Editor under contract we sign today, which in turn buys inCopy, we have problems with our talk with one of the other files.  All new editors under contract are able to purchase inCopy CS6.  This leaves us with the problem of having to inDesign CS5 on about 7 or so of our used machines and 6-8 CS 5.5 InCopy on outside contracted publishers and another 3-4 editors under contracts with inCopy CS6.  When publishers with inCopy CS6 try to open our InDesign CS5 files, either they will not open at all, or they will open, the editor working on the project for a while, their program crashes and they aren't able to recover (reopening) the files again.  Which translates into lost hours at work.

Has anyone encountered this problem?  Is there a work around or a quick fix.  We hate having to upgrade to CS6 for all our copies in InDesign home and then ask our external publishers have inCopy cs5.5 upgrade to CS6.

If this is the case, when CS7 comes out and we are hiring more outside editors, we must continually go through the process of upgrading again?  It is too expensive to use and our existing contract publishers.

All thoughts are a help would be appreciated.

It is one of the error messages from a Publisher under external contract using inCopy CS6.  The file crashed after several hours of work, when the Publisher went to reopen the case, they have received this error.  Which seems to be a generic error code that does not tell us anything.

    Hello Rufus,

Unfortunately the different versions of InDesign and InCopy work well with each other. More recent versions of the program should be able to open to older files, but they can't save backward. I don't know what the cause of errors with newer versions of InCopy however.

You are able to open the InCopy CS6 files on your computers?

  • How can I transfer my ID CS5.5 CS3 keyboard shortcuts?

I am upgrading to InDesign CS5.5 CS3 and would like to transfer my current set of keyboard shortcuts to the new version.

If possible, I'd be grateful for advice on how to do it.

    Thank you and best regards.

The best advice is not to try. Rebuild all from scratch in CS5 (it comes from the experience of other users trying to move the shortcuts in CS4). There are sizeable differences in large part I think that for the new span and characteristics of columns of splitting, which copied old shortcuts into CS5 cause strange behaviors and other problems.

No reason, however, not to print the configuration for the current reference.

  • Placement of the JPEG in InDesign CS5

    All,

I am creating a document, InDesign (CS5) intended for the screen alone (iPad), and I have a series of images of the same size that I will be flowing into the document - one per page.

Photoshop images are JPEG files (although I tried with TIFFs too, just to see without success) 732px x 72 dpi 1024px, then fill the top of iPad screen down and must be somewhat narrower the width of 768px for the iPad, it's OK.  Then, I created an InDesign document to 732px x 1024px, thinking that the images would pass in 100%.  However, I find the place images at about 50% or less, despite the Transform in ID palette mean the picture is 100%.  Its very special.

I looked through ID prefs to see if the document I created has a pre-set native resolution of, say, 96 or more, but can't find anything.

No idea why even Photoshop images and the identity document size do not match?

    All advice appreciated.

    Thank you

    /Timothy

When you select the Selection (black arrow) tool scale percentages are ALWAYS shown 100% becaue the framework is 100% of its current size (which is logical for someone). If you want to know the extent of the CONTENT of the image, you should use the direct Selection tool or double-click the image to select the content.

Which raise the question of how you do the frame when you place? Click on and release (should you give 100%, but see below), click and drag or predraw framework?

There was a bug, which may still exist, I think that in CS4, this ID casued scale of some images via click and release which had dimensions of the particular image and (I think) have been saved at 72 dpi (this last part is not exact). In addition, if the source directly from the camera image and has not been saved in a Publisher ID sometimes has difficulties to decide what size and resolution to use.

  • INDD CS6 error: "InDesign can't open files in format 'InDesign CS5.5 Document'.

Working in CS6 on Mac OS X 10.7.5: when I double click on an INDD file in the Finder, I get the following error in InDesign:

"The 'name of the doc' document could not be opened. InDesign can't open files in format 'InDesign CS5.5 Document '. »

It started recently and I was not able to understand why. I've not updated INDD or OS X. I can't think of anything that has changed, except perhaps an update to Java. Have not updated the latest OS yet.

The I'm opening the files are files that I created with CS6 - only a few minutes ago.  I can open fine using the file > open command in InDesign, so I can open them, but I can't open them by double clicking it in the Finder or by dragging the INDD icon in the dock.

The info in the said Finder's "Get Info" window is configurΘ for dΘmarrer in CS6 CS6 files and I have permissions to read and write. They are not locked.

It is not disabling, but rather annoying and slows me down since it is one of the most common ways I open files.

    Any suggestsion would be appreciated.

Probably will not work because this looks like a problem of operating system of some sort, but you can try trashing the prefs see replace your preferences

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when you open a new document.

Hello. I've had problems for more than five days to a week now with InDesign CS5.

Photoshop and Illustrator work perfectly without any problems. But my InDesign will freeze everytime I try to open any file. Or if I try to create a new document. If I do not try to open a file or create a new document, I can customize the paddles and change other parts of the InDesign. It will freeze then if I try to open a new document file, or even trying to open a document in InDesign. Since the deadly Beachball (loading cursor) is in place, I have to manually force quit it.

    • I reinstalled the InDesign CS5 three times - all came out as the same result.
    • Adobe Support Advisor has detected no problems with InDesign when I have to force it quit.
    • I've updated all the CS5 with the Application Manager.
    • Download SC.5 leave the Web site and thereby Download Assistant has "failed to initialize" when you try to install it.

Is there a reason why InDesign freezes all the time whenever I try to open it? Help would be nice.

What I actually did with the help of a friend, they took to SINGING it. InDesign Plugin and told me I have to do the same thing - I did, and everything works completely fine again! [But thanks a lot for the help, anyway:]

  • Can you open/edit indesign CS3 files that have been created with CS5?

I recently purchased indesign CS5 and use that for my internship. However, my boss is still using CS3 and said that she could not open or edit the indesign file that I sent him.  I looked to see if there was an option in 'export' and have not found anything.  I use a mac and I think she uses a P.C., too, when I finally sent him the file, I was still with my free trial - all this make a difference?  Help, please!

What has been covered time without end, but anyway, I'll do it again!

You must export a CS5 idml file, and then open the idml in CS4, export a file inx there then that open in CS3 and save it as an indd.  Sorry but there is no way round, presence, end of history etc etc.  If she's using CS3 and you use CS5 there are no roads between them unless you have CS4, and even in this case the road is littered with pitfalls!  Look at here for a pretty long discussion / sometimes write on the subject.

Ultimately it will have to be upgraded, or you could see if you could buy a CS3 or version 4 but it is very difficult to get a legitimate copy, the only way is to buy it off someone you know and most of the people do not sell because they upgrade.

Best new last, there is a solution in the short term to this guys blog and you can download a trial version of CS4 that will last for a month.

  • Problem opening INDD CS5.5 CS3

    Hi all

I have INDD an old (now defunct) computer files in InDesign CS3, I need to open.

I'm doing it on my recent with Vista64 SP2 office machines and the new version of InDesign (5.5)

The files get about 1/4th of the way through the dialog box "Data Conversion" box and the software crashes completely.  Must be killed to the task, not even the usual Vista 'aging' of the application, a complete block.

Older files, made in CS2, open very well.

I really need to get these documents.  I have more access to CS3.  The machine that made the CS3 files is now a doorstop.  Killed by lightning (literally, an increase in power).

Any ideas?  I tried to delete the folder SING.  Everything else on the CS5.5 is fine, it opens other InDesign files I have and it works perfectly.  This is the trial version, and I'm going to buy, but now I need to get these records open as soon as possible.

I'm willing to pay.  If someone can get my CS3 files opened successfully and has a PayPal account, I will send $25.  I have only 2 files which must be open/converted.

    Thanks for any help.

Just need to download for you.

I did .inx and checked that they open iin CS5 (No 5.5 on this particular machine). I suspect there's a bad link (and my bet would be one of the .eps files), but you won't know until you try on your side.

  • InDesign CS5 file does not open

At my work, we work on the formatting of a book in InDesign. We use the same basic model for each file. I created a document preliminary pages with a table of contents (TOC), list of figures (LOF), list of tables (LOT), acronyms and glossary using this basic model. Everything worked fine; I was able to generate the TOC, LOF and MANY and could work with the file without problem. Then I saved and closed the file. Later that day, I was unable to open the file.

The message I get includes the statement, "you might not have permissions or the file can be opened already."

No one else was open, and there is no file locking. The other person using InDesign also cannot open it. I made a copy of the file and saved in another location and still couldn't open it.

The files are all on our network. We use InDesign CS5 and Windows7 (64-bit). The only difference between this file and the others are the changes that I made to certain styles of paragraph OCD so two paragraphs could be displayed side-by-side in the table of contents (e.g., Chapter 1 Introduction on a single line, where Chapter1 comes a paragraph and Introduction by another with no leading on the style of a paragraph).

Can anyone suggest a solution for this? It's quite urgent because the client must book at the end of next week.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Kind regards
