Optimal partitioning HARD drive

Hello

I put to level my Dimension8400 for windows7 and I have a HARD WD500G of spare drive, so I was wondering if someone could suggest the best way to go.

(Please lol if I'm far away) As I install win7 one/Safe fast medium would be to

Make a backup

Install the blank disc.

start the PC and go into the implementation

format new hard drive with two partitions 1) win7 2) data

install win7 (as own) on the new disk partition

set the partition as master boot win7

Reboot and copy user files

Wipe the old drive when I'm happy, everything's fine and used as additional storage space (and recovery parition)...

Comments?

4G RAM (I know 3G gets used)

Thank you.  Osprey4

are there recommendations for partition sizes or letter/name assignments in my case.

I've never used PCs were there is a single partition C: covering the whole HARD disk.

    Hello

I try to install Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit on a clean hard disk using the supplied DVD. I would use the formatting option GPT instead of MBR because of its capabilities on the MBR.

  • Partitioned hard drive share info?

I followed the instructions of Eric Root (thanks), partitioned the hard drive and installed El Capitan.  El Capitan works completely separate or shared information with the original Mountain Lion?  (I did not migrate about Mountain Lion.)

My reason for asking is I have Adobe Flash in Mountain Lion but not installed specifically in El Capitan and everything seems to work very well for example. YouTube with El Capitan, so I was wondering if Adobe Flash is still used.  Sorry if that sounds confusing.

    Hi CabinGirl2016

N ° El Capitan cannot use the Flash from Adobe installed on the partition of Mountain Lion.

Most of the sites are conversion of Flash in HTML5, that's why you are no problems to play the content.

  • Can I leave partitioning HARD drive during my recovery CD system?

    Hello.

I need to change the HARD drive in my new Tecra A2 to the one I used to use on my old computer. I will certainly need to reinstall the system so I would gladly use the recovery CD
When I tried on the original disk, the utility did not have an option to choose a partition for OS; everything has been cleaned and only a logical partition defined on the disc, which is certainly very annoying.
Is it possible to put the recovery utility CD, keep the old partitioning as it was? I have 70 GB of data on a disk and I don't want to lose and recording of CD 70 seems paranoid.
The c: partition is 10 GB and is intended for Windows XP, the D: partition contains data and I would keep it as it was.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Scoobydoos,

NOTE: PLEASE HAVE A GOOD BACKUP ON AN EXTERNAL MEDIUM BEFORE PERFORMING ANY FUNCTION INVOLVING REPARTITION YOUR HARD DRIVE

    Thanks for posting answers.microsoft.com

Of the information you have provided.  Here is the configuration that I believe that you have on your PC.

    1. A 250 G hard drive
    2. A score of 30 g

If there is already more partitions on this hard drive, it is difficult to the above message.

If your current configuration is as I have suggested, then here is the procedure that you must follow to create a new partition.

Disk 0 should show as a BASIC DISK - beside the C:\ which has 30 GB should be shown - next to her is about 200 GB of unallocated space.  -However, if you have another partition besides the C:\---il comes to the partition which should be right click and SHRINKAGE of VOLUME must be selected on.  - but from the information provided, I can't confirm it's you have your system configured as.

Right-click NEW VOLUME SIMPLE-, select unallocated space, and follow the wizard to create the new Volume.

  • How to copy the recovery on the new HARD drive partition, HARD drive failed?

    Hallo,

I have a Compaq Mini netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

The HARD drive has failed and it is not repairable. However, it seems that the recovery partition is OK.

I want to buy a new HARD drive, install the driver on the netbook, and then use the tools/recovery partition to install windows 7 on a new PC.

So, the question is simple: how to copy the recovery for the new HARD drive partition?

    Hello s91066.

If your hard drive of your laptop doesn't have? If this is the case, what do you mean by the "recovery partition is ok? I doubt that this laptop has two hard disks, so if you are able to see this partition of your hard drive may still work.

You will need a set of recovery disks to restore the partitions on the new drive. If you can start Windows, which you can probably not with a dead hard drive, you can follow these steps if you can get into Windows.

If you are unable to boot into Windows, you need a set of disks. You can order it directly from HP. The number of the United States / Canada is 1-800-474-6836. If you are in another domain, you must visit HP's Support around the world to find contact information for your region.

I hope that is useful; have a great weekend!

  • How can I convert RAW hard Drives - Partition to Partition hard drives to NTFS without formatting hard drives?

  • Partitioning hard drive, I want to spend 30/40 GB drive and the remaining space for the creation of other partitions.

I created a recovery disc for my system that I bought the new laptop.
It consist of 500 GB HARD drive, now the problem is the C - drive which is my WIN7 Home Basic installed occupies 400 GB of space and the D-drive has only 25 GB.
My problem is I want to partition the drive C so that the other player must occupy the space according to my condition.
But here its only gives me half the space to shrink.
I mean, when I opened diskmgmt to shrink, C this is 200 GB disk space allotted to me.
Medium I can use this space to create other partitions, but what I want is, I want to spend 30/40 GB C drive and the remaining space for the creation of other partitions.
    Help, please... Thnks...

That's what we tried to tell you. An OEM installation does not lend itself to change and having to clear guarantees for re-setup means that you must be quite certain that you have other reliable ways to re-setup.

If you want to dabble with Linux or dual boot, you should buy a complete commercial edition of Windows 7 that will give you more flexibility and accept that for drivers etc, you're on your own...

  • My new computer came with a partitioned hard drive. I have not create the partition. What is it?

    original title: Partition of mystery

I just got a new computer. It has a 2 TB hard drive that apparently has already been partitioned, creating a drive E. I have not create the partition. The files on the partition are old EULA, the .cabs, and .dll files, but this that baffles me, is that the two disks are the same size, 2 TB. It is the size of the disk itself. Whence comes this extra drive, and how these two readers may overlap?

Should I remove this extra drive and if so, how can I do?

    Thank you

    Tim

Wait, I'm CONFUSED! YOU can not HAVE a PC THAT IS 4TB SIZE!

EDIT: Sorry, but Acer installed 2 HDD. (Wow!)

Be sure not to remove the 2nd partition, because it IS a recovery or backup disk.

  • Partitioning hard drive 2 TB for PSE 5

I bought a hard drive of 2 TB for the hard disk where I install the operating system. I'm trying to decide how many walls to make and what size to make them. Should I install a PSE 5 on the same partition that I have my operating system installed? Or should I do PSE 5 its own partition and install it's software in itself? Should I create a separate partition for the storage of the photo? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Normally, if you have 2 partitions, operating system and go on one of the programs, all data (photos, music, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.) light up on the other partition.

But there is really no reason why you should do it this way. Works better with the brains of some people to know the programs and operating system on C data D. In other words, it is a perceptual thing, not a material thing.

I guess it depends on what you want, and what your partitions.

  • Windows Vista - after the RESTORE partition HARD drive: WINDOWS COULD NOT COMPLETE the INSTALLATION. TO INSTALL WINDOWS ON THIS COMPUTER, RESTART THE INSTALLATION

    Hello

I have WINDOWS VISTA and just tried to reinstall my laptop of restoration on a HARD disk partition.

The restore went through, but then I got the error: WINDOWS COULD NOT COMPLETE the INSTALLATION. TO INSTALL WINDOWS ON THIS COMPUTER, RESTART THE INSTALLATION

When I press 'OK' (which is the only option), it tries to start again, until I get the same error through the black screen.

How can I get out of this loop please?

    Thank you.

    Hello

For any problem with the help of the recovery Partition that has been copied to the hard disk by the computer manufacturer, you must contact them.

This recovery process is the manufacturer, not Microsoft.

    ________________________________________________

You never told us why you wanted to do a restore. If you had serious errors and the recovery process does not work, you will have hardware problems. BUT we're only guessing at this stage due to lack of information to help you.

    See you soon.

  • Installing Windows twice on a separate partition/HARD drive

    De : mdagli1

I currently have Windows XP pro installed. (I have XP pro OS here too install disc) Is it possible to install again but at an another partition/disk? (So I have XP installed on a partition, then installed again on another partition create 2 places to start from).

And if I install using twice the same XP install disc, pourrais I update one of them using a Windows Vista ultimate upgrade disc?

(That leaves me with XP pro on one partition and Windows Vista on another.)

    Am I allowed to do?

    De : [Antonio Feitosa]

It is possible and perhaps even legal.  As the 2 operating systems are on the same machine, they cannot run at the same time. You have the right to run XP pro on a single machine. You also have the right to run Windows Vista on a machine using Windows Vista AND XP licenses and the license of Windows Vista is an updrage one.

The legal concept is the "notion of open book" in the sense that you can not open a book in two places or two pages at the same time.

Since the machine is the same, you can run Windows Vista or XP using the start menu.

But to get this work may require a boot manager other than BCDEdit, or use a 3rd Setup disk borrowed from someone. Or to play a few rounds with bcdedit and maybe partition software mgmt...

A common practice is to install the operating system and all programs (nothing else) on a single disc with no partitions.
