optimization of 3D image redraw expensive?

Hi all!

I have a VI with a 3D picture control. This control is updated, and then set it to redraw 10 times per second. The redraw method is called by:

The reference to the control is stored as a control reference generic, then sank to the control of the 3D image and finally to redraw is called.

It seems that manual refresh calls are a bit expensive. With the call to redraw the CPU usage revolves around 6%. However, if I turn off redrawing and instead update the display by turning the scene, then CPU usage drops to 1 percent.

Before I dive further, anyone have experience with this?

Concerning

Ah, I just double checked my code and saw that I had a knot to redraw here also, but I wasn't using a control refnum.  My call node was linked to the 3D graph ditrectly and I have no problem of refresh rate.

Also check that your graphics drivers are up to date.

What LV version do you use?

  • Image optimization forget its image after resizing

I have a VI that uses an image control that resize as the window resizes.  The problem is the image clears most of itself when it is resized.  I have deduced that this happens because I erase first deselected.  After resizing, only the last draw remains visible.  See the example attached to better understand.

I wonder if there is a way to remember.  Or a way to get the image data, so I can "redraw" he after all resize, without actually redrawing.

    Any suggestions? Thank you

  • Optimization of the image

I am currently working on an application that requires a few hundred images png to display both on the screen. I'm looking for ways to optimize the storage of images, so that it has any effect on the user's system. Images must be resizable.

I use the Image class right now, and he thought to pass to the Bitmap class. Although I would not benefit from pixel-copy, I hope it will have a smaller footprint and give slightly better performance.

Is there a better way to do it? Can I use graphics draw BitmapData image directly on a minimum element? If so, are there guides to resize the BitmapData for drawing?

    Thank you

I use a matrix to do the resizing, but I'm doing something different from what

  • Optimization of 2D image is not refresh properly

I have an application that displays an image in a 2D image indicator and draws a few rectangles and lines on the top of the image.

The locations of these lines of change throughout the day, and the application is designed to run reduced and then give a glance at different points of status when it is restored by the user.

Although reduced, however, the image seems not updated, even if my code is updated once per second. I can't really what happens when it is obviously reduced, but the behavior persists for some time after the window is restored, and is the State that is 'frozen' from the time wherever he played.

There are other numerical indicators on the front panel is updated in the same loop of 1 Hz, so I know that its just the indicator of 2D image which does not - that is to say, something with LabVIEW or associated system is causing the image that does not refresh while it is reduced and more importantly still, for some time after the application is restored.

Some things that will cause an update to the image after that I restored to the taskbar to a stale view:

    • Minimize once again, and then restore it again (from the window of LabVIEW)
    • Probe the datapath on the comic for final output to Draw Line that connects to the indicator
    • Wait some time (15 seconds? 30 seconds?)

I also tried to set the following property without effect node:

    • VI > Panel > be different updates from Control Panel > set to False

Another way to think about it would be to imagine a picture control 2D with an analog clock, where the lines are drawn to the hour and minutes and updated once per second.  This isn't what I do, but the example is easy to understand.  When the application is restored from the taskbar, the clock appears frozen in time since the last time it has been minimized.

Same behavior run this in LV 2012 and 2013... I am looking for property nodes or update methods to force a refresh to 1 Hz, without worrying if the display is visible.  The display should be immediately updated when the application is restored by the user.

    Hello m3nth,

I came across something similar a while back - at the time, I think that I found myself using the (Value) property, which seems to force a refresh.

  • iPhone 5 optimization requirement - launch Image

Tonight, at the end of downloading my app on iTunes, I received the following message is displayed:

Your binary is not optimized for the iPhone 5. Since May 1st, all the new iPhone apps and updates of application submitted must support the screen 4 inches on the iPhone 5. All applications must include a picture of launch of the appropriate size. Learn more about support for the iPhone 5 in reviewing the iOS Human Interface Guidelines.

It took me offguard I got an image for the iPhone 5 in the app for several months package ([email protected]). I am following the guidelines set out in this section - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/launch-images-ios.html.

I use FlashBuilder 4.6 with AIR 3.5. Suggestions on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you, in advance.

    Hello

    Well, I'm no mvp +++, but I'll give it a try. ;-)

In the framework of the project > properties > Flex (or Actionscript) packaging build > Apple iOS > contents of packaging, does show the [email protected] checked and included in the package? All files get packaged with the build is listed under the package contents. Here, you can check or uncheck it as what to include.

If the application runs on your iPhone 5 with the image by default and to fill the entire screen, then you need to download this way to Apple.

  • By default optimize the settings of the Image?

How can I configure my own default optimize jpeg Preview Image settings in Dreamweaver CS5? Whenever I open the preview window of the Image, the quality is set to '82' (see image). I already optimized my JPEGs and want that they inserted automatically to "100". Otherwise, an existing site with JPEG files more 2 000 during the transfer to Dreamweaver means that I have to reset optimization of more than 2,000 times (once for each image).preview.jpg

You actually run FW when you open this Panel.  And if you have already optimized why images you open this Panel anyway?

  • Image width on the page.

    Hello

How do you get an image scalable full width on a page such as www.petloc.se (a site created in muse). When you use the tool rectangle and selection of scale to fill my pixelated image like crazy, even when using large images (greater than 1920px width). Please advise like how did it on petloc.se because that is exactly the style I want.

    Thank you very much

That's exactly how you do it. Make a rectangle and change the background, "select it the scale to fill" or the original, and then select the position. He could go pixely while it loads the image, but if you optimize the better image it will load faster. What are the file sizes of images that you use? You should be able to optimize very large images less than 500 k.

If you have done all that, it could be a bug.

First off I would like to say that the code works on the other two (dev) PCs; but by operating on my clients PC - when the lance the façade program seems to load correctly except where the 3D graphical indicator is the area still shows everything on the monitor before (ie the place never gets repainted). All three PCs are Win7 and running LV12

If this is not a problem of LabVIEW, but something with PC graphics? or video settings?

Just thought that maybe this is a common thing with graphs (?) 3D and maybe someone can direct me in the right direction to a solution.

Glad you like my tutorial. To change the color palette in Code view, go to Preferences (in the Edit on Windows menu, menu Dreamweaver on Mac) and select Code coloring from the category on the left list. Set the drop-Classic theme.

Your questions about optimizing images and font size for different devices are best left to separate threads. There is not one simple answer, particularly with regard to the images on the screens of pixel high density. However, you are not preparing images for the web using a smartphone or tablet. You must use a graphics program, such as Fireworks, Photoshop or Lightroom.

  • Where is the icon of the culture in Dreamweaver CM³?

I'm trying to crop an image in Dreamweaver CM³.  After placing the image on the page I select him and the properties page appears, but the ONLY visible editing tool is an icon for Photoshop.  CULTURE icon is not visible. When I try to click on the menu bar on edit / picture link of the CROP is grayed out.  There seems to be no way to crop one image in Dreamweaver CM³ other than going out to Photoshop to another application program.  I've used DW CS4 - CS5 and CS6 and all had the choice of crops.  Please explain why this is not active in CC and how do I activate it.

    Thank you

I normally use Photoshop to batch optimize all my images for the web before ever entering DW.  I just get better results this way.  To answer your question, switch to Design view.  You can change some things in Live View, but not all.

  • on the reduction of size of file in Acrobat 9 Pro

I am involved in a long ongoing project between my organization and 35 other organizations in 5 States. This project is to maintain the Group regularly updated documents to share with each of the parties, and the majority of the beneficiaries is limited to less than 10 MB email. The documents are created from different sources - Wordprocessors, Web pages, spreadsheets, editing images, and e-mail. The documents must be sent in PDF format.

Our initial presentation is made mainly of Web pages (which we print and then analyze) and Government reports already in PDF format. This first communication is a little more than 300 pages, and the size of the file is 12 MB.

I can't get the smaller document.

I'm working on a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit workstation, locked by my employer (no administrator access - so not allowed other facilities, some advanced options has also rejected).

I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional.

I tried the steps so far:

    • Advanced > PDF Optimization >
      • Lees - images = 89 percent, content of 10%,
      • make compatible with 6 and later versions
      • images bicubic to 100 ppi, to 100 ppi grayscale, monochrome color to 100 ppi
      • fonts (scanned doc contains no embedded fonts)
      • Throw all the objects
      • Take all user data
      • clean everything except throw unref name dest (compress entire file)
        • result: 12.2 MB = > 10.9 MB - not a significant reduction, not useful.
    • Document > optimize scanned PDF document >
      • Located on the second level on the left, small
      • self-righting, low BG remove, shadow of careful edge, clean down, automatic Descreening, removal of halo on
        • result: 10.9 mb by top = > 12.6 MB - note file increase more original
        • Choose Save as optimized file = > 12.4 mb - even larger than the original size
    • Document > reduce file size > make it compatible with 6.0
        • result: used original 12.2 MB = > 11.4 MB - still not acceptable to email
    • File > save as > type optimized pdf
        • result: used original 12.2 MB = > 10.9 MB - still too large to email
    • File > print > printer (use Adobe PDF printer)
      • Print in advance put in place 150 dpi > > transparency flattening low res, composite color
      • Properties of Adobe PDF > smaller size of the file
      • Adobe PDF properties > paper/quality > advanced > change of graphic 1200 at 300 dpi print quality > color black and white together
        • result: 12.2 mb original = > 16.1 MB - not acceptable

This project is underway. This project is paper intensive. Tools using third-party is not an option. Use of compression utilities or Zip may help in some circumstances, but

Any help to understand the Acrobat optimize and file reduction process would be great

You push things, especially if they color 24 bit info charts. Without compression, the size would be about 264 MB or over 300 pages and 1 byte per pixel. You might be able to crop the page to make it smaller. Just for the heck of it you can print in a new PDF (refry) and see if you get an improvement. In this case, set your properties desired in the printer (perhaps even more small file size since there is no fonts).

  • Question for the experts: SVG vs GIF

    Hello everyone

Lets say I have a website that is filled with a variety of simple and complex, smooth white icons. These icons will be resized in muse where necessary, sometimes they will be with reduced opacity. The site is heavy on Parallax scrolling and fading (opacity) and most - if not all - of the icons will use one or two scroll effects.

Exporting since illustrator GIFs are sometimes smaller in size than the SVG.

The target audience is supposed to be decent and updated computers for example, IE 8 and below not relevant. Assume that all users have a browser able to handle SVG and parallax.

What is better or easier for the browser? SVG of GIFs? even if the size of the GIFs is reduced?

renders SVG quite complex (several anchor points) 'harder' than the GIF?

No reason to prefer not SVG except for worms backward compatibility with older browsers/machines?

What would be the best practice here?

    Any discussion/advice greatly appreciated.

    Jorge Vallejo

First, GIF should be avoided in favour of PNG: a well optimized PNG is always smaller in file size and also offers several options of quality (for example more than 256 colors which allows to GIF). The problem is that Adobe products cannot achieve this without jumping through a LOT of hoops. More information below.

This is a bitmap - SVG performance comparison:

    (1) SVG files should be drawn & rendered in the browser. This means that the xml data must be read, interpreted and displays - which is much slower than a bitmap. A png must still be uncompressed, which does not take a lot of processing power. Make an SVG, it is much slower (incomparably slower depending on the complexity).

    (2) bitmaps are usually hardware accelerated (via the GPU), a number of operations of svg is not. For example, I believe that css transforms for SVG is not hardware accelerated and so very slow animate with this method.

    (3) some old browsers have trouble made a lot of individual objects of SVG. For example, only in March 2014 this problem was solved in Firefox.

    (4) svg performance depends heavily on the specific browser as well. Take this test:

    http://jsperf.com/D3-SVG-opacity

It runs faster on opera and IE 11 on my system! Firefox is terribly slow.

    (5) the SVG rendering is much slower on mobile platforms. Unless very simple, convert png files.

Now, regarding your files: a size to 500Ko SVG is a LOT - and then you mention that you will have more files SVG from less then 100 KB up to more than 200 KB. My question would be what kind of chart, they will be on your page: background graphics, icons,...?

In addition, SVG images produced by the Illustrator can (should) be optimized. A good tool for this is SVGO: svg/svgo · GitHub a Visual version can be downloaded at svgo/svg-gui · GitHub

    A few items must read:

    http://CSS-tricks.com/using-SVG/

    http://jaydenseric.com/blog/how-to-optimize-SVG

    http://kylefoster.me/SVG-slides/#/

If you do a lot of animation, and there are a lot of other things happening in a page, then PNG is the way to go. SVG is preferable for icons and graphics simple logo. Developers of games using Flash always convert all their vector files into bitmaps for much better in Flash!

Now to my second point: Adobe Save for Web function is catastrophic for the optimization of png. Yes, there are Photoshop techniques to improve optimization of PNG images, but it takes a lot of effort:

    http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/07/15/clever-PNG-optimization-techniques/

PNG Optimization Guide: more intelligent Techniques - Smashing Magazine

And even after all that work, again, you cannot export a PNG image with a color palette limited with total transparency in Photoshop or Illustrator. It is important for the size of files: especially Muse Web sites tend to be so inflated that they take a lot of time to load up - and there's really no reason for this if you optimize your graphics properly.

To optimize PNG files, use the quantifier of color:

    Color quantization

I can't live without this small tool (freeware) - you have to start up your mac in Windows mode just to use CQ to optimize your png files. It supports automatically optimize your png files, reducing to a minimum - compared with the standard backup of Photoshop for the Web disaster, files are at least 50% smaller file size or more. And it includes a very simple to use quality mask brush that allows areas of control/fix which can be annoying when the reduction of the number of colors.

That said, it really depends on the type of chart, that you intend to put at your disposal. Could you post some examples?
