Oracle 10g - Cross - Platform Database Portable (with or without RMAN?)

Hello guys,.
I am currently on a project of databases oracle migration from one platform to another platform (both platforms are on the same boutien):
-> For Linux 64-Bit of Windows 64-Bit
--> In HP - UX 64-Bit to 64-Bit AIX

All databases are on Oracle 10 g (10.2.0.4) and I tested two different ways:

(1) the 'official' way with RMAN CONVERT DATABASE
http://youngcow.NET/doc/Oracle10g/backup.102/b14191/dbxptrn002.htm#CHDEEEAG

(2) ' copy and paste '.
-Copy and paste the database files
-Create controlfile manually on the target platform (with the help of "backup controlfile to trace" source platform)

Both methods work well and the migrated databases test work fine.

Now, I wonder why there is a command "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE", if it is possible to copy and paste the data from the files and perform two steps manually later.
The "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" takes time and you have to copy the output files RMAN for the target platform.

Is there a special reason why you need the "RMAN CONVERT DATA base"? The "RMAN CONVERT DATABASE" change things in the files of database internally?

Thanks and greetings

So my question is if there is a special case in which you use the RMAN with 'RMAN CONVERT DATABASE' instead of just 'copy & paste' If you stay on the same "endianness"?

Database convert RMAN is the only supported way to 'move the database' on platform. Data files have some platform specific headers, and the conversion of RMAN prepares these data files (in particular regarding storage space containing ROLLBACK, mostly the TBS SYSTEM segments and CANCEL).
The script also runs the script utlirp.sql in mode UPGRADE and utlrp.sql in NORMAL mode.
So, I would avoid using a simple copy of the data files, I already tried for the objective test (HP - UX-> AIX) and encountered a few errors ORA-600 which I did not with conversion of RMAN.

    Sarat,

The same restriction that is there for the transport of the whole base is quite real for the transportable tablespace as well if you go to the cross-platform. Endian must match across platforms that only you can do otherwise, as the database feature, you must convert the source file to the target-endian.

If you look at the doc of reference order of unlocking Tablespace

Limitations on the creation of tablespace portable games described in the Oracle database administrator's Guide apply to transport backup storage spaces, with the exception of accountability read-only storage.

TRANSPORT TABLESPACE does not format endian conversion. If the target platform has a different endian format, you must use the CONVERT RMAN command to perform the separate step of conversion of data files endian format portable overall.

Dg4ODBC gateway can be used with the 10.2.0.5 database. It is certified and no additional license is required for the database to ODBC gateway - the license is included in the license database (even when the Oracle database is still version 10.2) AND you can also install Dg4ODBC on another machine, then the Oracle database. There is no need to have Dg4ODBC installed on the same computer as the Oracle database.

-When you install DG4ODBC on the same machine as your Oracle 10.2 database, then install in its own, separate OH - otherwise you will corrupt your existing installation of the database.

I have the task to import some schemas are basis of oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) in the database to oracle 11 GR 2 (11.2.0.2). Now I only oracle 10g export and import utility (the 11g server is not where I give myself the import duties).

I can do the export of the g 10 patterns using the 10 g utility to export and then import into database 11 g using the 10 g import utility? I ran a test to do this and found it works but I would like also to have advice from experts on this subject.

Also another question is: If the schema of the source is 11g - assume - can the utility of export/import of 10g still work in this case? I mean the scheme for the export of db1 say (which is 11 g) using 10 g utility to export and import them into 11 g db2 database (which is still 11 g) using 10 g import? I request because I don't have access to the 11g server and trying to find what I can do with the 10g utilities.

    Thank you

set up a database connection to the database to version 10 gr 2 in 11 GR 2 database.
Now using the client impdp GR 11, 2 utility use
    Impdp network_link =

    Fact.
Your "objection" you have no access to GR 2 11 does not count that you can install a client of 11 GR 2.

Also in general do not use a version more low imp to imp to a higher version database
Exp and imp are also deprecated in 10g and more.

    Hello

    http://www.DBA-Oracle.com/t_insifficient_privileges_create_view_grant.htm said

You must have the privileges of the object that you made from tables

    Privileges required to create views

To create a view, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have been granted the CREATE VIEW (to create views in your schema) or CREATE ANY VIEW (to create a view of another user schema) system privilege, either explicitly, or by a role.

You need to explicitly obtain the SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE privileges object on all underlying base objects in the view or system privileges SELECT ANY TABLE, INSERT a WHOLE TABLE, UPDATE ANY TABLE or DELETE ANY TABLE. You may not have gotten these privileges through roles.

    I hope this helps.

  • Oracle 11g compatibility with oracle 10g and 9i?

    Hi all

I have a few questions about the compatibility of 11g.

Client Oracle 11g is compatible with oracle 10g client that is already installed on the desktop computer?

If any changes to do so and where?

Is oracle 11g oracle 10 g/9i on the same server where are installed the 10 g/9i compatible?

    Concerning

If the question you ask yourself is 'Can I have multiple versions of the Oracle installed on the same client computer' or "Can I have several versions of the database Oracle installed on the same machine", the answer is Yes. As long as you install each version in another House of Oracle, and we are talking about versions 8.1.5 and upward, you can have as many different versions of the client and the database on the same machine as you wish. Of course, you are still subject to the support of operating system compatibility (e.g. Oracle 9.2 did not had been supported on Windows 2008, so do not expect to work).

The only problem you may have would be with components that are not compatible with several House. This mainly affects third-party Windows drivers (drivers third party ODBC, etc.) who do not know how to work with multiple Oracle homes and end up using which version of the client Oracle happens to appear first in the path.
