Oracle cross-platform Windows to Linux migration

Hi all!

Have a problem to need advice.

I have a WIndows server 2003 R2 (32-bit) with Oracle 11.2.0.1 and I migrate to Linux with Oracle 11.2.0.4

I've been reading on and try to use on windows expdp and impdp on Linux.

I have the sequence right to make this migration?

Export to create 1) file form Windows (expdp) I need I create full dump?

(2) then import them using impdp on Linux. Little bit confused becuse windows and linux by using other fails the path to data files and how Max easy to do this?

Thank you very much!

This happens because you have a different character in the source to the target database database.

For example, if you export a character defined single-byte and import into the multibyte character set it is likely that you will encounter this problem because a single character who now uses a single byte in the source database can use 2 bytes (or more) in the target database.

  • Database Oracle from Windows to Linux migration

    Hey guys,.

I'm database oracle 11g R2 in Windows 7 migration to Red hat 5 (64-bit) Linux using RMAN by transport.sql file. I installed Oracle 11 g R2 on the two system.

But the problem is that my data files are scattered in different locations (I mean that all are not in the same directory) and I did not have enough space to all copy in the same directory. Can someone tell me how I'm supposed to write several locations as value the NAME of FILE DB CONVERT parameter when creating transport using RMAN script, I know the command for a directory only.

RMAN > Convert the new database database linuxdb

    script of transport for "C:\test\transport.sql."

    db_file_name_convert 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\' "C:\test".

    the platform "Linux IA < 32 bit >";

This command allows to convert all the files in the database that resides in the orcl directory and place them in the test directory. But in my case, all the files are not in the directory orcl

and I can't copy other files in there because I don't have enough space on the entire system.

I can't create transport script several times because it is incorrect.

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

You can specify as many pairs of directories as needed

    db_file_name_convert = ('/ u01/ora/files ' ' / u02/ora/files ' ' / u01/ora/file9 ' ' / u02/ora/file9 ')

So I ask here see if anyone has this kind of available research (brief, white paper, blog post, etc.)?

I doubt that you will be able to find such a blog. The license terms prevent 3rd party benchmarks publishing.

Overall, it is unlikely that Oracle would give you a formal recommendation for Linux vs Windows both supported platforms.

You could look at other indicators such as WLS development is done on the platforms Linux first and then others. In addition, you can check spec.org for points of reference published for WLS. A recent publication on x 86 shows that Oracle Oracle Enterprise Linux for this test. Suppliers are highly motivated to take advantage of all that will give them the highest score, so I think that is too revealing.

The migration process is simple, but as there several steps it is convenient to become acquainted with them before you run it.

    1. check the compatibility of platform between source and target OS
    2. start the database in read-only mode
    3. check the availability of database for the transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB. CHECK_DB
    4. check if there are external objects

    1. it is not necessary to change the character set of the database.

    2. Yes, you can migrate if the database version is different with rman. Yes, you can start the process between 10.2.01 on windows to 11.2.0.2 on linux

but remember one thing during the migration with rman-platform the Archives for the windows platform can be applied to the linx platform and vice versa to recover. If you need to take backup of database using time when no activity is performed, and no change in the database which happens.

  • Oracle on Linux and Windows Client question database server: NetMgr Windows and Linux NetMgr

    People,

Hello. I have installed Oracle Database 11 g 2 server in the Oracle Linux 5 Starter PT853 Instance of database virtual machine. Then I installed Oracle Database 11 g 2 client for 32-bit Windows XP 64 - bit Windows virtual machine. Now I face the problem of connection of the VMs 2 as below:

In Manager Net Linux Server Machine:

    Service name: PT853
    Connection type: default database
    "TCP/IP Protocol".
    Host name: localhost
    Port name: 1521

    Listener: LISTENER
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host: localhost
    Port: 1521

I test the Service PT853 with "SYSADM" username and password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.
In the Windows XP Client computer, the information in the Net Manager is the same, but the connection is not successful. Its details are as below:

    NET Service Name: PT853
    Protocol: TCP/IP
The database Machine host name: localhost
    Port number: 1521
Name of the Basic Service: PT853
    Connection type: default database

I have test the Service using "SYSADM" UserID and password to 'SYSADM' which are the same with Linux, but this error: TNS: listener does not currently of service requested in connect descriptor.

I followed this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 virtual machines in Windows 7 host machine.

In Windows XP Oracle database Client Installer directory, the "tnsnames.ora" file has an entry that matches the name Service in Net Manager. Directory of database server installation Oracle Linux, the file 'tnsnames.ora' has no entry because I installed the server of Oracle database with the instance of database startup PT853.

I tried to test 2 virtual machines in the way as below:

    In Linux, [user@localhost ~] $ping WindowsXP_HostName
    Release: Unknown host WindowsXP_HostName

At the Windows XP command prompt:
    C:\ping localhost.localdomain
Its release: ping localhost 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
    Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes = 32 time = 2ms TTL = 128

He meets a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is ping itself and not Linux server. The host name of the Linux server is 'localhost' as well. It is a kind of confusion for me.

From the information above, we can see that 2 VMs cannot connect between them. Net Manager in Windows XP Oracle Client unable to connect its Service PT853 with the Oracle Linux database server.

    My question is:

Can any folk tell me how to connect Oracle Client in Windows XP with the Oracle Linux database server?

    Very grateful in advance.

IP 192.168.196.102 is Linux. This means that oracle database Client in Windows XP may log into Oracle Database Server under Linux. Don't you think I'm not mistaken? If so, I'm very happy and very grateful to you.

By definition, if you can establish a connection, then you are correct.

    Sarat,

The same restriction that is there for the transport of the whole base is quite real for the transportable tablespace as well if you go to the cross-platform. Endian must match across platforms that only you can do otherwise, as the database feature, you must convert the source file to the target-endian.

If you look at the doc of reference order of unlocking Tablespace

Limitations on the creation of tablespace portable games described in the Oracle database administrator's Guide apply to transport backup storage spaces, with the exception of accountability read-only storage.

TRANSPORT TABLESPACE does not format endian conversion. If the target platform has a different endian format, you must use the CONVERT RMAN command to perform the separate step of conversion of data files endian format portable overall.

    Hi Arturo,.

For a Configuration downstream, the OS platform should be the same for Source and downstream (mining sector).

    • the operating system on the source and downstream capture sites must be the same, but the version of the operating system should not be the same. However, the downstream sites can use a different directory on the source site structure;
    • When you use a configuration of downstream mining, the mining and data source must be of the same platform. For example, if the source database is running on Linux 64 - bit, the downstream database must be also on 64-bit Linux platform.

I think I have I need help to get my right to ASM storage. Recently I changed businesses and the new place is a House of Windows, so Oracle databases are all on 2008 R2 machines. I run Oracle RAC on both physical and virtual before, but only in Linux/Unix environments (up to now, I still prefer) so I'm still learning some of the ins and outs. This company seeks also to travel to the RAC, ASM is in the mix. To start my tests, I have implemented an ASM instance for a single host that will eventually become a pole of development taking into multiple databases. However, before I set up data bases, the host is locked up. I think it has something to do with the configuration of the disk, because while the entrapment took place while the virtual machine is idling, several crashes occurred when I try to drop a disc from the asmca utility. I followed the Oracle documentation for Windows platforms, but this documentation does not offer overview of storage on vmware virtualization.

    Here is my configuration:

    VMware: vSphere 5.5

    OS: Windows 2008 R2 Standard

    Memory: 12G

    Storage: OS: 60G; ASM: 20G, 5G, 5G

Oracle Grid: 11.2.0.4 (more January 2014 CPU)

Oracle database: 11.2.0.4 (more January 2014 CPU)

Other details (perhaps important, perhaps not):

    (1) I have a large pages activated

    (2) drives are supplied thin. Note, I always thick-stocked my ASM, but our admin SR records. HE made a policy that all disks must be supplied thin for efficiency. I don't know if this could cause a problem.

    (3) the 3 ASM disks are running using the paravirtualized SCSI driver

    (4) the host also has an OEM 12 c Agent installed and running.

I'm new on the Windows platform when it comes to Oracle (I managed a lot of SQL Server DBs), blocks do not appear to produce any type of data in the logs.

Just for someone who comes across this post on the forum, update the ESET software kept interfering with the DSO, so I'm back in business. In response to the previous notice, I am the first full-time, home s/n they hired, and what I learned to work with is regardless of the parade of consultants put in place in recent years. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have. It's kinda a mess overall, to say the least, but I'm slowly getting it resolved. Linux is in the cards, but not in this series of changes.
