oradim.exe automatic restart of windows

Operating systems: Windows server 2003 r2
DB version: 10.2.0.3

When the instance is down, windows tries to automatically restart the instance using oradim.exe.
But it is not picking up correct pfile so that it starts. I want to change that.

Windows automatically runs the following statement: (from oradim.log)

C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2\bin\oradim.exe-demarrage-SID db123 - usrpwd * - log oradim.log - nocheck 0

Not able to understand where it picks up this info.

How do I change that to pick up different pfile?

I checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\oraclestartdb123, have info related to oracle.exe

Thank you

ADK wrote:
is it possible to know with what parameters oracle.exe call oradim.exe

as suggested by renee_mathieu, if I run the following command, oradim-edit - sid - pfile "new_path", it collects will be this new pfile next time if she tries to restart in a similar situation?

If you use oradim-edit - sid... a registry key will be created similar to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_\ORA__PFILE

This key value will be read during startup of the service of oracle.exe and used.

If you want to dig deeper, you can use a Microsoft Sysinternals Process Monitor tool on the server/host to capture activity during the start of the service.

Use your search engine of choice to learn more about Process Monitor (especially the filtering of events).

For example, on a local test system Process Monitor shows the following for one of my test case (abbreviated version):

Process name:
Oracle.exe

Command line:
C:\oracle\11.2\database\bin\oradim.exe-demarrage-SID v112 - usrpwd xyzxyz"" - log oradim.log - nocheck 0

On this system, I do use a pfile file but you can see what spfile served as follows (short version):

Operation: IRP_MJ_CREATE
Result: SUCCESS
Path: C:\Oracle\11.2\database\database\SPFILEV112. ORA

Don't forget that there is collaboration between binary/process/registry is not always as obvious as you might like.

I use Windows 8 home edition.  I want to keep automatic updates turned on, but I don't want my computer restarts automatically after some Windows updates are installed.

I am aware that there is a notification on the lock screen, indicating that a reboot is needed, but normally, I keep my computer on all the time and don't ever see this notification.  There are no notifications on the desktop until 15 minutes before the forced restart.  Still, he seems to be at an inopportune time and translates into loss of work.

I saw messages and articles describing the methods of disabling restarting forced on different versions of Windows by changing the registry keys or by using the Group Policy Editor.  But Windows 8 Home edition does not have the registry key mentioned nor has he a Group Policy Editor.

Is there a way to display the notification on the desktop even more in advance?

Is it possible to postpone indefinitely or completely disable the forced reboot?

I get an error message "Windows cannot find gpedit.msc", probably because I have the Home version and not Pro (even though I really don't like about the reason, I get the error, to be honest).  Which unfortunately for Member States does nothing to increase the probability that I'm going to buy the Pro version (of Win8 or any later version) and instead reduced the probability that I will never buy another product of MS at all.  If anything this behavior makes more sense to a professional (i.e. IT Department coordinated group policy settings) rather than a home setting, so for me to have no way to remove/fix this "feature" really turns me off purchase Windows for domestic use.

Oh if you have a House version, you will get the editors of group policy.  Actually, politics made the most sense for users.  Send the editorial at MS, not me.

  • Not updated to Firefox restarted my Windows logon?

I left my computer with a number of windows and documents are open, some in the middle to make changes. When I got home, my other activity had disappeared and Firefox said he just did an automatic update.

The update of Firefox cancel all active programs, I had?

I received no warning that Firefox would do an automatic update?

I think that any program should be an automatic restart of Windows without the explicit permission of the user. A warning that it will be launched automatically in x minutes is not good enough, if the user has left the computer for several hours without saving all that was being developed. Microsoft Windows that does as well and I think it's a bad thing to do to users.

Hello! Firefox does not automatically your computer restart (I don't think that applications can even do). However, Windows doesn't in fact restarts itself updates, giving you a few minutes only to cancel. Now, IIRC it restarts the apps you had opened in time windows was arrested. And one of the apps that have restarted Firefox, which - because it has been restarted - apply an update, it was downloaded in the background.

At least that's the best explanation I. Restart your computer if any Firefox.

  • Update Windows automatically restarts the computer. I would like to disable this feature.

Update Windows automatically restarts the computer. I would like to disable this feature. I'm running a machine business with complex projects requiring a configuration long and delicate. The details below:
Type of operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate
Problem: Status of the project lost after auto restart during the night
Require: A method of disabling automatic restart after an automatic update is happening.
Tried: I already tried looking in the registry for an appropriate key change, but no have been found appropriate.

    Aelryn,
You can configure Windows update to meet your needs, for example, download the update and then let me choose when to install the same. This way you always get the automatic updates but you chose when and where and how to install updates at a time that is convenient.

Then I suggest to change the Automatic Updates settings to meet the needs of PAHO.

Choice, you can turn off to THE (not recommended), you can adjust to download updates only and allow you to install them at a convenient time, you can adjust information only, or you can leave to do what he likes.

If you update, you must restart sometime in the case otherwise you are not protected and you might as well do not update at all. Everything is a matter of choice. One size does not fit all, so a choice can be made. I have updates informed me only, then I decide what, when and how to do to install the updates. It's my choice.

    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    Hi Bilodeau,

You did changes to the computer before the show?

If your computer seems to close slowly (or not at all) starts slowly, or if it is not energy saving modes, it is possible that a program or device driver is interfering with Windows power settings.

Method 1: I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

Why my computer won't turn on or off quickly?
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-CA/Windows/computer-wont-turn-on-off-quickly#1TC=Windows-7

Method 2: I'll help you with this problem. I suggest you follow the steps in the article.

Optimize Windows 7 for better performance

Slow PC? Optimize your computer for peak performance

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need help with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help you.

To plant your Firefox, simply there open, press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC and then, on the process tab in the window that appears, complete the process firefox.exe. My recommendation is to configure your windows does not install updates without your intervention. Choose something like 'ask me what to do' or something like that.
