Outlook Express 6 (Windows XP Pro) keep crashing after start-up.

When it crashes at startup, it freezes when receiving mail electronic (no email is downloaded).

See if you can get OE open and in tools | Options | General, uncheck the box: check for messages at startup and check for messages every X minutes. It's probably the gel in the poll for messages.

Create a new identity, you probably have the corruption of dbx files. Make the new identity by default value.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it's the default main identity. File | Identity | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • How am I able to import emails from hotmail in Windows Outlook Express for Windows 98?

My grandfather is not familiar with Windows 98, I understand that it is a version absolete. It is impossible to access his e-mail from your Windows Live Hotmail account I would like to know how to import messages from a hotmail account in Outlook Express for Windows 98. For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

    Hello

To import contacts and email from Hotmail addresses in your Outlook Express address book:

When I click on anything it either in the Outlook Express Preview window to stop answer and I have use the ctrl-alt-del combination for her all over again. Anyone out there have the same problem? If so what did you do about it.

Original title: I'm under Oulook Express 6 Windows XP Home SP3 environment.

    Bruce:

The problem has been fixed (I think) but in a most unusual way. Let me explain.

When I was closing down to give the computer a rest yesterday, there was a pop up saying that vprotector expected to close. He really wanted the process of closing until I clicked on finish the process. Curious to know what vprotector is, I searched on the net and got a lot of shots, saying: it is a virus and should be deleted pronto. So I searched the hard drive for the vprot. * and found in the folder program files for AVG!

I then went to AVG to see if it's really a part of AVG and they said yes. If there is a problem with vprot, the toolbar is at fault and needs to be reinstalled. There was one click here to download and run the part of the program to fix the problem. However, I had WebRoot antivirus running that stopped the download of this program as a virus. Because I trust AVG, I've disabled WebRoot and reinstalled the AVG search bar.

I haven't restarted WebRoot and computer flying along as it should, and OE is the link to IE when I click on a link as it has always done.

Seems to me to be the faulty AVG toolbar and a cross with two virus programs upward was at fault. Thank you for your time. Your reply gave me a chance to think differently this problem could arise.

Computers are really complicated machines and we have to be complicated to deal with their problems.

    Thanks again,

    Fred

I'm afraid that if I upgrade the form Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail, I will lose all e-mail addresses in my address book current as well as the information contained in the files - models etc.

If you install WLMail on your XP machine, it has to import messages and addresses automatically and nothing will be lost of OE.

As I said in my first answer, click file | Identities and establish a new identity.  See if that solves the problem, which will remove any possible corruption of the registry for OE.  In addition, antivirus and antispam programs do not work well with OE, so they could contribute, depending on what you are using.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

  • How can I get my outlook express in windows 7

First question: is there a difference between Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail?

Second question: is one of the two already in Windows 7?

Third question: I was going to do an easy transfer from the Windows of my computer in XP with Outlook Express to my new computer with Windows 7. If Windows 7 is already Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail all my etc. in Outlook messages are transferred in the new e-mail program?

Fourth question: If Windows 7 does not have one of the mentioned e-mail programs should I download one of them in the old computer and my Outlook etc messages in the new program, and THEN make an easy transfer on the new computer (after I also download the same e-mail program on this computer if it is not already)?

If this has already been addressed in another post please direct me there.  If I should ask this question somewhere else please tell me where.

    Thank you!

WIndows mail is only under Vista. And Windows live, you need to install first. Windows 7 does not come with an email program.

You cannot use Outlook express in windows 7. And I don't think you can transfer Outlook itself overall. You need to reinstall CD. But you should be able to export the emails and contacts from the old Outlook and import them into Outlook. Once that reinstall you on Windows 7

In Windows XP, 2K & 2K 3, files from user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX the Outbox.dbx file and delete it. A new vacuum will be created automatically when you open OE.
