P2V Windows 2000 ESXi 5.5 conversion

Hello

We lack ESXi, vCenter 5.5 with 3 5.5 hosts. I am trying to convert an old Windows 2000 Server physical and add it to one of our ESXi hosts.

It seems that the latest version of the Agent converter that I can run on the W2K Server is 4.01. Something more recent than that will not install.

And version 4.01 of the stand-alone converter cannot connect to a host ESXi 5.5, (because it is not not compatible I suspect).

If I run 5.5 Converter Standalone and connect you to the W2K Server, he wants to upgrade the agent which, of course, he can't.

Anyone have this working?

Do I have other options?

Thank you.

For anyone else who may find themselves in this position.

I used to convert physical server Win2K Server VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.01 virtual 2.x.

When it's done, I used vCenter Standalone Converter 5.5.3 to convert the image to Vmware Server 2 5.5 ESXi infrastructure.

I went all start the server ESXi without a NIC attached and all seems OK, so confident when I do for real, it should work.

I have vmware converter 3.0.3 installed on a server, I am sign in a physical windows 2000. It connects to the property and lists all disks.

I'm stuck at step 2 name and destination. Enter the name of the virtual machine but the location seems to be looking for a shared area to throw. Maybe I did something wrong, but I'm trying just to virtulize the box and put it in our vmware environment.

    3. Right-click on the VMname.vmx file and select Add to the inventory
    4. Meet guests in the area add to the inventory dialog boxes
    5. The virtual machine appears in the inventory for host b.
    6. You may need to select the network that the virtual machine is connected if network names are not the same on host A and B
    7. Turn on the virtual machine

  • Windows 2000 Terminalserver gel after 10 Session RDP on esxi 5

We have 4 old Windows 2000 terminal Server with Citrix installed. They work very well for years on esx. Given that I've updated (install fresh esxi 5), these server works for about 30 minutes very well, so the system takes more cpu every second. Suddenly the server freeze for a few seconds. 2 minutes later, the server did bit repsond in the GUI, net connectivity is allowed (only ping test). I have tried a large number of parameters, no luck at all.

Only disable acceleration allows, the server is no longer frozen, but noone is mean to connect to the server dll errors. Activate the acceleration still freeze the server again in a few seconds. Then I moved the server with vmotion to an esxi4.1 server, everything works well!

I made a clone of this server and it works now on the new server esx5, without any citrix user logged in, I can't reproduce the error.

    Someone has an idea?

    Hi guys!

I knew exactly the same problem with my hypervisor, ESXi 5.0.0 and my Windows 2000 Server VM using Terminalservices and I wanted to tell you that upgrading to 5.0.0 ESXi Update 1 fixes this hole thing! Everything is working well at the moment - I have tested with 35 simultaneous RDP sessions - each Session with open Word, Excel & IE. CPU utilization was very low (0-4%) - the overall performance is great now. (freezing with 12 before Sessions). It makes me happy because the workaround solution mentioned here and in the KB2012205 did not work for me (I use software virtualization :-(do not have hardware virtualization capabilities...)

Unfortunately auto-start after start or restart of ESXi hypervisor virtual machines no longer works. Tried several config resets without success, I can live with that...

Thanks for this discussion which advised me to look for the update and sorry for my English Rusty

    Kind regards!!!

  • Windows 2000 Pro system/disk physical conversion into virtual machine

Fairly new to the world of the VM and was directed to VMWare for possibly a problem for us.

We have a gentleman with an older system running Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) with a ton of software installed.  We put in place a new Win7 Pro system for him, but he won't Cross and reinstall everything (in addition to the time involved, some of the software is older and Win7 compatibility is probably a problem).

We were originally at a switch KVM allows you to switch between systems, but then I found in the converter and thought this would be a great solution for him.  My thoughts are to use the converter to create a virtual machine from its old system/hard drive and install Player on its new Win7 system, it can fire up to his old Win2000 environment when he needs to work - and we can empty the old physical system.

I have scanned through the documentation for converter and understood that I would need a version of Converter before 4.3 (like, 4.01 or earlier?).  Now, what should I install on it have to happen?

Do I need to set permissions on its legacy system to expose the discs on the network?

Can I get the old HD and connect it to the new system and convert this way?

Do I need to install something on the source and the host system to do this?

Once I can understand this point, we may need to conduct a number of other older systems, it keeps alive for the same reasons.

I guess I should ask first - is that what this application is designed to do?  Or it fits into another software solution?

Thank you very much for any information/guidance someone can provide - greatly appreciated.

(PS.  Please don't just live/link me to the documentation.  As mentioned, I went through that, and I'm not real familiar with the setting/process, so that really helped a lot.  Thank you once again.)

VHDs are used by VirtualBox and VirtualPC
    VMware uses the vmdk files

You start converter on the Win2000 and tell him to "convert THIS machine.
It then creates a vmx file plus a vmdk file.

On the Win7 host you install VMplayer or workstation, and then simply double-click the vmx file... If everything works as expected

  • Network does not work after Windows 2000 SP4 P2V

It has been a roller coaster get this virtualized machine.

A little history: this machine is Windows 2000 SP 4 with update Rollup 1. After you install the Update Rollup 1, virtualization tried it and it gets to 97% and then I get the message error "vmware agent has encountered an error. When I try to start the machine, I get a BSOD with error inaccessible_boot_device.

After reading some discussions fo I found a solution of reconfiguing the virtual machine then it will start. So now, I have a virtual machine that will start.

Now my problem is that networks do not work. I removed the network card, has added a new, tried static and dhcp, through the Add/Remove programs and uninstalled all the devices HP and Compaq, went into Device Manager and deleted all drivers HP and Compaq or component, rebooted countless times and I am still ending up with no network connectivity.

The network card on the computer virtual says it is connected and he says is to receive, but not send. It is not pulling a DHCP address and a static address gets no where also.

I have more than 50 virtual machines so I know this isn't a problem with my network, it must be on the virtual machine itself. I don't know what else to try, and I'm open to suggestions.

    Thank you!

Have you tried to repair the winsock?

    1. Go in Start > run, type: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

    2. Restart your computer and you're done.

    3. Follow the steps below if you have XP SP2 (this only works on windows XP SP2 and later versions).

    4. Go to regedit.

    5. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services

    6. Click on Winsock and Delete.

    7. Click on Winsock2 and Delete.

    8. Close registry.

    9. Restart your computer

    10. Access the properties of the LAN connection

    11. Click the install button in the Properties window

    12. Select PROTOCOL, and then click the Add button.

    13. Click the disk...

    14. Type C:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf in the dialog box, and click OK.

    15. Choose from the list of INTERNET TCP/IP PROTOCOL in the list, and then click OK.

    16. Click CLOSE.

    17. Restart your computer. (At this point the Winsock is complete)
not only avoid this problem from happening in the future, but also
to make the process much easier you update Windows.)

  • Windows 2000 CPU

A Windows 2000 Server, converted from the physical to the virtual and hosted by a member of host ESXi 5.0 5.0 vSphere infrastructure, reports the CPU usage up to 95% for peak hours, while during the rest of the day, the CPU usage is very limited.

The client is configured with 2 (vitrtual) CPU and the CPU priority is high.

What is the best strategy to mitigate the problem of che without impact on the hosted applications, legacy and minimizes the impact on other guest virtual machines?

    • Add vCPU or carrots?
    • Reserve of CPU resources?
    • What else?

    Happy new year!

    Marius

This CPU usage should or does it occur without good reason, i.e. to have the material associated with drivers and services that were deleted after the P2V conversion? What is the guest OS have the correct HAL configured?

I wouldn't not change the priotities or reservations, but rather - depending on the host's resources - add additional vCPUs or kernels.

  • Windows 2000 will support HP 685c G7 (C7000)

According to http://www.vmware.com/go/hcl ESXi 5.0 is supported on this system and Windows 2000 is supported on ESXi 5.0, so it should work correctly. You will however need to an older version of VMware Converter (I think it is 4.0.1) to convert Windows 2000 systems (SP4!).

  • Windows 2000 SCSI Driver BSOD

    Hi all

I have a Windows 2000 Server that I have P2V once a week for DR purposes. The only problem is that when I tried to start a got a BSOD and have thought that it is a problem of buslogic scsi driver. I had a look at the KB Article: 1005208, which gives instructions on how to install the Vmware scsi on the physical machine drivers before the conversion. It looks all pretty straight forward, however I was wondering what would be the risk to the physical Server does not start after the installation of this?

    Any comment ideas appreciated.

  • Capture an image from a machine under windows 2000 server during production

    Hello

We are looking to capture an image of a server windows 2000 (with sp4) has sql 2005 standard installed on it.  I've done a few machines and windows 2003 during production, while I used the converter and no problems.  Does anyone have experience with windows 2000?  I know that on windows 2000, a reboot is required.

We bring the image into a villas of test to test the upgrade of the operating system to windows 2003.  Once satisfied, redo us the same process and will have ESXi host computer.

BTW, the converter is version 3.03.

I ran a test and see no problem but I just want to know that.

I have captured many images of a windows 2003 while the services windows, sql server, etc. will work perfectly during the process.

Yes, the services are still running.  However, it is normally recommended that you disable the services as much as possible.   If you have a lot of traffic to the server, the conversion may fail half way through.  And of course, all the changes bring users to data cannot be included in the image/converted data.  If the conversion is for dev/test, then it may be acceptable.

When I did my hot clones, it was generally after hours so that I can disable the SQL and other services.  I've done a few hot clones with services running, but there is no user logged in, so very little traffic to the title of the conversion machine.

The VI working on (on Windows XP) will have to be implemented on computers different 4: 3 with Windows XP SP3 and 1 with Windows 2000 SP4. (Of course, the upgrade of the OS would be a solution, but I would like to avoid this, if possible).

If you have a license for a version of LabVIEW, you can have every (Older) version installed as well.  You need an active SSP to upgrade well!

All the new features migrate at least 8.0 (you will get a bunch of warnings in guard and perhaps a very ugly code).
