Pack SP3 does not

I downloaded the pack SP3 for windows xp - when I double-click on it - he told me that he needs to find a file to open it - it does not work

I discovered that the file name.exe had equal footing at the end as sp3.exe.par - so I rename the file in sp3.exe and no problem.

This looks like a partial transfer.  It also seems that if you could not have downloaded the file from the official source from Microsoft.  Good download for Windows XP sp3 must be named "WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3 - x 86 - ENU.exe" and even if it is downloading, you will see something like the image below, depending on which browser you used to download the file.

If it ran really when you renamed you're probably OK, but what makes your system report when you right-click "my computer" and select "Properties"?

  • New installation of XP PRO sp3 does not recognize the 500 GB HD

    OK, here are the details:

System: Computer PORTABLE of Acer Aspire 1700 Pent4, 2 GB of RAM, 80GB (3.5 "full-size, trainee) IDE HD [this is the original HD on this laptop of size important which is designed to use disks 3.5" hard].

Initial situation: Windows XP Pro (SP3 integrated) installed on HDD of 80 GB and works without poblems. BIOS does NOT show the ability of the intern HD in the BIOS screen. BIOS reports only the model and the serial number of the HD, and there is no options to specify the HD type/format (e.g., MLA, etc.)

Available: Win XP Pro bootable CD slipstreamed with SP3; It is tested and verified work well to install PC or laptop!

When running XP Pro on a partition internal 80 GB HD, and when I join a brand new WD 500 GB IDE HD via USB, HD is recognized correctly. I can partition and copy data on the HD 500 GB with no problems!

When I replaced the old 80 GB HD with the new HD 500 GB HD interning on the laptop, I have the following problems:

    1. I can NOT boot into Windows XP Pro (SP3) which was Ghost on the HD 500 GB of the old 80 GB portable HD it recharges, and if I try the console recovery or secure boot, then the laptop restarts also.
1B. I have Ghost xp partition to 80 GB HD to a piece of spare HD (40 GB) and replaced the 80 GB with the 40 GB HD and was able to start the laptop without problem. So the problem is NOT related ghost!

    2. I can't perform a clean install of Windows XP Pro (SP3 integrated) because Windows XP Setup recognizes the HD 500 GB GB 131 HD. Therefore, the remaining capacity is not recognized.

    3. I can NOT perform the installation of Windows XP pro (SP3 integrated), even if I have previously partition new HD 500 GB by attaching it to a free desktop PC and use Partition Magic, partitioner of Paragon Disk or other partitioning tools. After partitioning prior, when the 500 GB HD is installed on the laptop (as a trainee HD), then win xp installation lists quality HD of GB 131 and lists the existing partitions as corrupt!

    4. Curiously, if I use Knoppix, Debian, Ubuntu or linux boot CD Mint and start the laptop computer with one of these linux distributions, then the linux installer recognize the HD properly during the phase of recognition of material and later during the phase partitioning HD, the linux system to report a full capacity of 500 GB available for partitioning. In addition, when there are partitions, partitioning linux program then lists these partitions properly as well!

Considering the 4 points and especially MS Windows XP PRO (integrated with SP3, which should recognize HD with sizes exceeding 137 GB limit - from MS says you must be at least XP SP1 to overcome the size 137 GB limit - and that the different distributions of linux can see the full-size HD 500 GB with no problems) which is exactly the problem with Win XP? Why it does not recognize the full capacity? And how to win xp recognizes a 500 GB capacity, if the new HD is attached to the laptop via USB as an external drive when running XP PRO (SP3) of the 80 GB internal HD?

so... Can anyone sheds light on the issue with Win XP Pro installation on HD 500 GB IDE?

    Nicely,

    LO

    Hi Palcouk and Doc,

I think that's the final answer!

Although, there is a mixture of simple to complex responses to the problem at hand, what it all comes down is that there is a significant difference between the installation of Windows XP and Linux installer program. The XP installation program needs help from the BIOS to deal with HD, and if the BIOS does not support, XP not has no facility to remedy the situation. OTOH, most of Linux new kernels rely on the BIOS for a limited number of extended, but communicate directly with the hardware, in this case, with the HD and therefore manages the material accordingly.

It seems among users of dual-booting (win/linux) using old PCs, it is a matter of very pretty. What they end up doing is using the first 137 GB that is seen by the BIOS without problem for XP (either as a single partition or divided into several partitions), and the rest of the space is used for Linux because linux has no problem.

I guess that it really nails the problem with my laptop to a BIOS NON-lba-48-bit!

Then close this thread as answered or matter who has more to say about this?

    LO

P.S.: It was very nice meeting you fellows and appreciate all the help and tech expertise.

    Hello

Try to connect the external hard drive on another computer and check if the same problem persists.

I suggest that you set the drive letter for the external hard drive and check if that helps.

To assign a drive letter to a drive, a partition, or a volume, follow these steps:

    1. Sign in as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
    2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click performance and Maintenance.

Note If you do not see the performance and Maintenance, go to step 3. Performance and Maintenance appears in control Panel only if you use category view. If you are using the classic view, performance and Maintenance does not appear.

    3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click computer management, and then click disk management in the left pane.
    4. Right click on the drive, the partition, the logical drive or volume that you want to assign a drive letter to and then click change drive letter and paths.
    5. Click on Add.
    6. Click assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, and then accept the default drive letter or click the drive letter that you want to use.
    7. Click OK.

  • Key for XP SP3 does not license.

Starting my laptop, I learned "Windows has no start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM»
I was able to copy: sam, installation, software files, by default & security and enter into Windows to back up my files. However, Windows refuses the product key provided with the laptop. I bought Vista Pro with a downgrade to Windows XP. I received the two Vista Pro & XP CD, but only the Vista Pro Porduct key.
The manufacturer (Dell) recognizes that the laptop was delivered w / XP, but says I have to get the license key of Microsoft.

The correct method is to use the key only you - one for Windows Vista. Then when it does not work, call the number on your screen to activate by phone. Speak with a live person. Explain that you have indeed licensed to downgrade from Vista to XP and you should get on the right track. It's a pain, but it's the only way to accomplish this feat.

  • My copy registered and checked for XP Pro SP3 does not start after changing the motherboard. Second problem is that I can't find my original install of XP Pro disc.

After failing to find the source of reliable performance from my PC, I decided to bite the bullet and replace the motherboard, memory and the CPU. I installed a triple base 435 Athlon and a motherboard Gigabyte MA74GMT. Awarded PC again started the first time - but Windows will not, I get a number of options but none work - safe mode brings up several lines of messages on the partition of multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0).

A previous post suggested that a similar message meant some kind of malware but if I replace the old motherboard, processor and memory Windows works very well - in fact I use it now.

Do I have an option but to reinstall Windows from a CD? Otherwise I have a problem - I can't find the installation discs for each piece of software except my Windows XP Pro! I do repair discs?

    Thanks for your help.

  • XP SP3 does not start

    Hi all

I have an old office 8 yr with XP SP3.  It is mainly used for office work etc and storage of documents.

Over the years I've cleaned up the Interior with great care be disconnected from all power.  The battery on the MB has been replaced about 12 months ago.

I have the original XP disc and the SP3 upgrade disc.

After cleaning the inside of the box, I reconnected it the voltage to the back of the box then the trunk/button at the front.

It all started OK until he did the balance sheet of the IDE, and then a message popped up "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

I've never had this happen before.  I rebooted and selected the Bios to see what the boot order was and found that it showed the wrong order to start.

    1 diskette

    2 CD player

    3 hard drive

I changed the order of HDD, CD and floppy finally drive

I rebooted and got the same message as above.

Then I checked the Bios configuration to see if priorities had changed, but she didn't. I saved this new setting, and you leave.
I rebooted and selected pre post to see message he showed no option to boot from the hard drive.

I went further.  I have not tried to boot from the CD drive as the only time I ever did it is when I did a clean install and reformat the hard disk.

I hope that if I do not receive the computer to restart correctly, nothing was lost - I did a backup of drive two weeks ago.

A moderator could please close this thread.

I double checked all the connections and attached hardward case - turned on and it starts correctly - I can only assume that the HD connections had dislodged slightly.

  • After a fresh install of XP SP3, does not work my previously installed programs. What should do?

Had a problem when the power is gone, just as I have to boot my system. It resulted in a corrupted system file. Tried to fix it by using the original installation of Windows XP SP3 CD, but arrived at a position where Windows wanted my password but then refused to recognize. Repeated the process twice more just to be sure, and then made a new installation instead. Well it worked for me get into Windows, but now none of my previously installed programs want to run. Well, so far I tried Office 2010, work, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and Adobe Reader without success. None of these or any other program on the machine come in the list of all programs and I am betting that goes into the Windows Explorer, select all the executable files of installed programs and click on run will fail for them the same as it has for the ones I've tried so far. Is there a solution that will enable Windows to recognize programs that were already installed when I ran the new XP installation?

I am at a loss to explain how, if you were doing a re-install of XP destructor, the Program Files folder is intact. Unless maybe you left in the current file system intact before beginning installation (I've never tried this option), but even in this case, it would be wise to start with a folder Program Files new and clean install.

Assuming that all your data is backed up and verified OK as saved, re-setup (with format) could be your best option. You could make a rod for your own back continuous you, at this time.

  • Service Pack 3 does not completely load on Windows XP despite trying Mr. Fixit and clean boot.

Windows Update says that our computer requires Service Pack 3.  However, after about 70-80 MB or more very slow laborious effort he stops and tells me that download has failed.  The same thing happens when you try to load the update Garmin map that need Net Framework 4 - it's just too hard for her.  I tried mutual aid run Mr Fixit solutions [who proudly says he fixed three different things and installed Powershell for me] and also do a clean boot manually.  They have produced no benefit at all.  Any advice would be welcome.

First of all, make sure that you have enough free space on your hard drive: http://www.winhelp.us/index.php/windows/enhancing-windows-performance/free-up-disk-space-in-windows.html

Can download SP3 from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 and run it.

  • Windows XP 2002 service pack 2 does not have internet explorer 7 or 8.

Recently, I took out my old laptop. Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2. I was using internet just fine, then when I went to a Web page (don't remember now).

He said that my computer needed update to IE 7 to the support page. I tried to load this (update) over and over again with
no luck. Then I lost internet all together. He said it was impossible to load it and said to go to www.//go.microsoft/fwlink/?LinkID=106440. This address has not yet been loaded.
I did extensive research on the question/answer of windows page.
What can I do to make it work again? I still have a lot of memory etc left on the computer.
The biggest problem is that I have NO internet now on this old PC, to do something about it. I use my laptop more recent to ask
    This question.

Yesterday my computer froze at the start (which had got to the windows screen).  You had to do a hard reboot.  Then it worked.  Then this morning it froze everytime.  I tried to start in safe mode.  When he got to the screen when I took administrative or account (any), I got a box that said I had to be under windows to continue, and that I needed to restart.  I don't know what happened.  I am using sp3 topic when it came out.  The only thing I've done the last two days is updated my phone motorola software.  I have not checked with my son to see if he had uploaded anything in the last two days.  I use advast antivirus with anti-malware software.  Any ideas before I try to do a repair.

I have a laptop Sony Vio running Windows XP Home Edition. Last week I tried to update from SP2 to SP3. After about 2 hours, it was at the point of file cleanup. After a time to shout a message came uo 'Please Wait'. I waited all night, and the message was always there in the morning. I restarted the computer and now Windows wilol is not open. When I try to start safe mode it runs a number of lines if information and where he had reached the end of one line info nothing happens. I tried to boot in a security 3 with the same resunts mode. Tried running in the final Condition to work with the same results - Windows startup screen runs then screen turns white and screen icon never opens. I have makes the system, Application and Driver Recovery CD. That SP3 could have done to create this condition? No idea how to fix ths situation without losing me any files - images Woed docs etc.? Any help would be greatly appreicated.

At this point, your main goal should be to backup all your files from user data that you can from your [no bootable] machine.  I find that a good way to do it is to this is to use another machine to create free Linux Livecd such as Knoppix or Ubuntu (if you use Ubuntu, do not install but use instead "Try Me").  You do this by downloading an .iso file and then use the "burn image" of your program of CD burning to create the bootable CD/DVD.  You can now start your laptop from this CD and Linux will allow that access you your hard disk without disturbing anything on this subject.  You can then copy off and back up your data on a USB stick or a network drive files.

Once your files are safely backed up, you can then reinstall Windows using the recovery disks you have.

    Knoppix: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html>
    Ubuntu: <> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download >

Recovery CD Windows are also a possibility but more effort involved to create the CD.  Such a disc is "BartPE".

Well, you're really between the proverbial rock and hard place here, my friend.

Norton 360 v5.x (AKA Norton 360 2012) will not install unless & until the Vista SP2 is installed - and you can't even get installed SP1 (because the free trial period of Norton had expired because you have never run the removal tools when appropriate or because of your misguided use of registry cleaners).

All that being said, your best bet now is to format the hard drive and then do a clean install of Vista. [Note: a repair installation will not fix this!]
