Palm IIIXE HotSync

Her husband retired and wants to load his Palm IIIxe to our Windows XP Home.  It has a serial port connection.  Already have Palm M125 (mine) on him and it works very well.  M125 is the USB connection.  As far as I can tell, both use the same software.  Mine syncs fine.  Its says "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your configuration and try again. "I'm not a computer whiz to the extent where the program installation, etc, but I get.  I spent so much time trying to find what to do - searched the web, etc., even talked to Palm - all to nothing does not.  Currently, I'm reluctantly ready (or fortunately) trash.  This forum is my last resort.  Hope someone can help me through this.  Thank you.

Did you say the Manager HotSync (small red and blue in the lower right corner of your screen Windows icon) to use the parameter "Local"?  I assume that you have a serial port on the computer, right?  If this is not the case, how you connect to the computer?

The "Local" setting will say it looks like the serial port.  Don't forget not "Local" and "Local USB" are checked.

I came across a Palm IIIxe, which was hardly used. I changed the batteries (that I tested) and click Reset, but nothing happens, it won't turn. I downloaded the software and instructions, manual, but it does not reference this problem.

Suggestions as to how I can get this to work? Thanks in advance.

Check the contrast wheel.  I was fooled several times about an old series III device was dead, but the wheel of contrast was filmed entirely in one direction, making the screen appear as being dead.

    Hello

I have a Palm IIIxe. I just bought a new computer (Vista OS) that is not a connector series. Is there an available adapter so I can attach my docking station to the computer? And the IIIxe will work with Vista?

    Thanks in advance!

    ...
but unfortunately the palm IIIxe does not work with vista...

Palm Desktop 4.1.4e is supposed to be compatible with Vista (32 bit only) to synchronize the base PIM databases.  Installation tool is useless, however.

Oh, that reminds me, the developer of DateBk6, pimlico software, has released a "patch" that allows devices inherited from Palm OS sync with Palm Desktop 6.2.  Read, download, here.

If your computer is Vista 64-bit, you are almost out of luck with the IIIxe because it would require a Bluetooth connection to synchronize.

No, it is not normal. How long have you had the Centro?

If it is less than 1 year from the date of purchase, you should be able to get the cable replaced. Contact Verizon and they should replace the cable for you.

  • Warm the address book sync from PC to Palm IIIxe

After buying a PC without a serial port, I have a card installed and connected handheld. I tried to Hotsync the device but I get an error message that the program could not open address book database. Clicking ok on this message, another pops up telling me there was an error opening of the contact database and a new empty database is created and the original database file has been renamed to C:\Program Files\Palm\username\address.002.dat.

Whenever I try to hotsync, I get the same messages and it keeps creating a numbered sequence file. No idea of what is happening here and how I can fix this problem? Ok. Looks like you will have to do a 'clean' of Palm desktop and re uninstll - install.

With he data in Palm desktop, export the data for backup purposes. Here are the instructions to do so.

The best way to protect your data is to export the data in each category of Palm Desktop in a separate folder on your PC.

Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that suits. Name it something like Palm Desktop data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on this page for the export procedure.

    http://www.Palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?id=28734

Make sure you only select everything for the beach in the export window.

With the data stored in the created folder, make a copy of this file and save it on a USB key, cd - rw or external hard drive.

Whenever you change in Palm Desktop, export the data that has been changed in this file and save again to external media.

With this process you can always import the data in Palm Desktop, whenever you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop, or if your computer/hard drive/device crash.

Once the data is exported and saved, clean uninstall Palm desktop and re-install. Here are the instructions. Once Palm desktop is re-installed, importing data in Palm desktop, change the ducts to the office replaces handheld and sync.

You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
is happening. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
A Palm. Highlight your Palm Desktop user name and right click and copy.
Then, go to the desktop of your PC, right-click on a blank spot block and select.

If this is the first time, you install Palm desktop and encounter a problem, go to the previous step.

For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for folders and files, my documents, desktop PalmOS. You will find the username folder in this place.

Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove anything that has to do
with Palm Desktop on your computer. As the folder above, remove the Palm folder. Once this is done, you need to delete some registry keys
    your registry PC operating system.

Word of warning, go here and removing the wrong thing can cause your PC
No start, crashing and deleting programs and data. If you feel
you're not sure of yourself, see if you have a friend who can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them all
Should be deleted. To keep your current registry settings, we have a backup of the registry.

On the PC, go to start and run Type "regedit" without the quotes

Select WORKSTATION, browse to the file--> export. Should appear with a save as
box. Current place of residence is very well should be in My Documents, or you can change in a location that you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup [todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Then, the most difficult part.

The best way to ensure that your work with the right key, select the key that is installation quick palm and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
make sure you. Say Yes. Do the same for all the keys below.

If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.

The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of the theses reg keys won't be here)
    But if they remove them)

    * Installation quick HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm
    * Transfer of files Robotics\PalmOne HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S.
    * Robotics\Pilot Office of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S.

    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm

    Then restart your computer

Then, reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If she asks
you for a user name, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right of the screen to hotsync.

  • Data transfer Palm Pilot IIIx for Blackberry 8320 blackBerry smartphones

Thanks to BBSingh for help posting this message. I would really appreciate help from the members of the forum to provide a remedy that is known to work with my Palm and Blackberry.

My problem is changing my old (December 1999 vintage) Palm IIIx data to my new Blackberry 8320. Years, I have used the Palm in conjunction with a Motorola L7089 (April 2000 vintage) and their IR ports for data transfer; Unfortunately, the phone fell in water and after drying carefully, he could make and receive calls again its screen remains empty, so no need to send SMS and most of the functions. Sales team convinced me to buy the Blackberry, but I'm starting to wonder if I've been conned, as usual with sellers once they get your money that they are not prepared to do anything else. New technology has undone me. In the long task of transfer of several thousand items manually I had recourse to the expertise of this forum.

A tip I found has been updated the Blackberry Desk Top Manager to v4.6 and it would list the Palm in its devices to transfer data from. I did, but the resulting Wizard at the point of registration of the Palm, but it wouldn't activate a greyed on the option button. DTM for Windows status options System Tray icon COM1 has been disabled. I could allow it, but as soon as this dialog box has been closed COM1 returned to the disabled state. BTW, this is a non sequitur on COM1 Hotsync of Palm transfers data to the PC via COM1 and the Palm software tools works very well also. I closed all the related applications of Palm and it made no difference. I tried DTM 4.5 with the same result. As an aside how the icon options DTM is deleted from the system tray, Windows Task Manager should be used to close the application.

Another tip say to export data from Palm in Outlook Express, then DTM would need to be OE. I enabled OE reluctantly because it is a questionable product, a favorite oxymoron is "microsoft security", has exported the Palm data in a CSV file, but when they are imported to OE it's garbage. Repeat the exercise but exported as tab delimited and got a worse result. Try to import or the other of these abortions in my Blackberry has been a waste of time.

Another tip say export data from Palm as VCF which can import BlackBerrys, but did not say how they did it. Palm tools allows only the comma or tab files in the delimited export formats.

MY PC is a Dell 4600 with 2 GB of RAM and 300 GB SATA HDD, XP Pro SP3, so that all the relevant fixes SP3 post. Windows Firewall software, the AV and malware have been temporarily disabled, and I logged in as administrator too.

    RESOLVED - 98%

A big thank you to everyone who contributed ideas. Here is the solution to most data transfer: -.

    1. install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5

    2. download the latest tools of Palm Desktop Manager which is 4.1.4 (I used 3.6)

    3. perform hotsync of Palm IIIx with Palm tools

    4. disconnect the Palm Pilot from PC

    5. connect the Blackberry to the PC

    6. open Blackberry DTM and check ' device (PIN): "appears

    7. Select the device switch Wizard, grant conditions and the next screen shows active button for Palm devices, click Next

8 calendar, addresses, etc. are read, previews of each appear for approval; with the exception of the calendar. Click OK to finish and get out

    9. close DTM, disconnect Blackberry

10, opening relevant applications on Blackberry to check, all transferred no problem except the grille which was empty

I can live without the old calendar entries and do not have to manually re-create handfull. So the question is settled.

  • Don't Palm IIIc none liked HotSync under WinME

Several years ago I was given a Palm IIIc (in his original box) which the owner no longer wanted. I installed Palm desktop on a WinME computer and had no real issues running Hotsync. I use the Palm almost exclusively to run a business application that I developed for internal use.

Recently, I decided that I should update the application (especially just the data set used, in fact, not the code itself). But I was doing mixed "cannot connect" and "lost connection" messages and now all I get "cannot establish a connection.

    A couple of other facts:

-It's been almost three years since I tried to Hotsync anything (the last time I have updated the soft, actually)

-the WinME machine had problems with hard drive and I had to reinstall the operating system in its partition (the disk is divided into several partitions, and so several logical drives)

Here's what I've tried so far:

-Reinstall Palm Desktop original. Shows HotSync icon in the taskbar and the Task Manager indicates that it is running. After pressing the Hotsync button on the cradle, however, nothing happens on WinME. After a bit the Palm IIIc beeps and shows one of his two messages

-Update Palm Desktop to version 4.14. Same (lack of) lead, even though I had to change the default of USB to serial connection before I could be certain

-unplugged the power brick and leave the cradle not powered for awhile. When it is plugged in, same result (lack of)

-install the original Palm Desktop on a second hard drive (the machine has two hard drives now, each with a copy of WinME in a logical drive.) So that only one drive is connected at a given time, however). Same result (lack of)

-reset the Palm IIIc. Same result (lack of)

-a pencil eraser new to clean the contacts of the Palm IIIc and the cradle. Gee, they are more clear now, but same result (lack of). Also, after that, I noticed that the bottom of the cradle around the Hotsync button was quite warm enough. Don't know if that was the case after any previous repair attempt.

My thoughts at the moment are running in the sense that the COM port is somehow wrong, or the serial cable does not get a correct contact with the connector on the motherboard (but he did before, so why not now?). Software, I'm not at all clear on the 'property' thing or if Hotsync really cares yet about that (I can say the name that appears under "owner" on the Palm IIIc is my first name and the first letters of my last name - do not know why the last name isn't here)

    I'm not quite of ideas:

-get a USB-serial converter and launch Palm Desktop 4.14 under WinME

-get a USB-serial converter and run some version of Palm Desktop is the best for Windows XP (I have a laptop that is running Windows XP)

-partition the hard drive of my computer (64-bit) of WinVista, install WinME in the new partition as a dual-boot option, run the original Palm Desktop using the serial port on the computer

Any thoughts on which (or quite other things) may be more likely to succeed?

It seems that I finally managed to transfer my update on my Palm 3 c application. It seems that do the same thing again and again wait something different to happen is not as crazy as some would have people think.

I have clean the contacts on the Plam 3 c and the docking station with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I saw a few recommendations for 90 to 95%, but 70% is all I had on hand. Almost the same result (lack of).

Because side PC Office wake up for a moment, even if it never got past the first step (no username never showed up, for example).

Other support button hotsync got zilch.

But I had seen this now a couple of times before. The common denominator in all cases, is that the Palm 3 c has been out of the cradle for several hours. When it is placed on the base, the first attempt to hotsync caused a reaction on the side office, but no attempt after makes.

I don't know why this might be important. As far as I know is I put the two 3 c Palm and Hotsync Manager at 9600 baud (common slower speed), the Palm 3 c out of the docking station for hours six or more, put it at left back, pressed, press the hotsync button and watched the awakening PC side and start going through her routine - and this time without stopping.

At least for a while. HotSync did not actually finish. My app has been downloaded first, but the log shows that, after that several apps integrated tried to synchronize (some did, some do not have), and after that the Palm 3 c tried to download copies of everything he had installed on the PC. He has managed to download several, but not all of them - "lost connection" again.

I love really on it, partly because I already have copies of everything. I don't like that I finally had my app downloaded update. Because I don't really have a rational explanation, I guess now I have a superstition to follow when I want to download an app!

  • HotSync does not new/chanaged the Tungsten E2 palm contacts transfer

Total frustration.  New Palm Tungsten E2 because I was so frustrated with a Treo that was nothing but trouble.  With the help of USB HotSync.  New and modified contacts are not moved to the Palm from the desktop.  The options (thanks to a previous thread) are correct (I checked).  What condition would stop the hotsync to move a new or modified entry for tungsten? Using Windows XP SP 3 Outlook 2003.

    Thank you.

Are you sync'ing the new device the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you synchronize the device, it records the device settings, applications, 3rd party, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the folder on the PC username. When you synchronize the new device it copies the content of the backup for the old device folder in the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings of the new device, which causes erratic behavior of the new device.

Looks like you may need to reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Then before of you hotsync your data back you will need to rename your backup folder, to do than go here.

You have all 3rd party programs installed on the TX? These can sometimes cause looping.

If you have no 3rd party programs, you should try the hard reset. The hard reset will erase all data on the TX.

  • Palm Centro keeps restarting

I just performed a Hotsync operation and my Palm Centro keeps restarting; I guess due to the installation of the software.  How stop the reboot and restore my Centro to its previous state?

You will need to start over again with a Hard Reset, then synchronize with your old username after making a few changes to the name of a special folder on your computer.

On a XP box it to: C:\Program Files\Palm\ your HotSync name account short \Backup.   Name the folder of backup to anything else (for example \Backup_old).

This will allow all the data back on your phone PIM, but none of the third-party software that may be causing the problem.  HotSync is complete, you can start to reinstall the third-party programs one by one, seeking the return of the problem after each installation.

If you have a strong idea about a program that caused the problem, do not install it!

How hard reset a Palm Centro.

Go to http://kb.palm.com and enter "Solution ID" number 45050.

    In short:
    -hard reset
-Locate the backup under Palm Desktop folder folder
    -Rename in backup_old
-synchronization, select old id. This will bring back PIMs (calendar, Contacts, tasks and Memos) but no settings or programs
-Reinstall the applications one by one AFTER having checked that they are compatible with the device target.
