Paragraph styles are ignored by InDesign

I use InDesign CS4.  My changes paragraph styles are ignored by InDesign.  All the font changes are ignored and everything is "BOLD".  This just started happening.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall.

Can someone help me?

Looks like you've applied a style of bold text in addition to the paragraph style.

Check the character Styles Panel. It is not rare to accidentally set a default character style by selecting with any selected text. When no text is selected, the character Style must be [none].

  • Any paragraph styles are not the same as the original document

    I use InDesign CC 9.2 x 64

I have the document with a series of master pages and paragraph styles. I wanted to move them in a blank document, as well as a few pages of the original document.

In the new document I loaded master pages and paragraph styles, and everything seems to be okay. I moved a few pages in the document and paragraph styles do not seem to get the same thing. It seems greater than in the original document line spacing, but I can't find what the problem is

It's really annoying, since the point of the whole of paragraph styles, it's that they ensure consistency!

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

What can go wrong with it is that the paragraphs are aligned on the grid of reference set in the preferences.
Two different documents can have two different settings for it. Check the baseline grid in preferences and adapt one to the other setting.

  • My paragraphs different although they share the same style. Paragraph styles are not uniform

    Hello.

I try to get my paragraph styles to all be uniform. I have imported a model and have several text boxes on several pages. I've deleted almost all paragraph styles to start again. But for some reason, the style that I want to use is in 1 box of text, and then in all the other text boxes, it's a different style. I created a new style, but when I click on it when the text is highlights, it changes, but does not seem this area of a text game.

    Any help is appreciated.

There is the problem - your text has resized with the text boxes; It's showing the size and the size of acutal. To fix, use the menu at the top right of the window to InDesign and for each text box, reset scaling to 100%. You must delete the replacements again.

  • Paragraph styles are not properly in automatic Table of contents

    Hi all

I'm currently busy with the lay-out of my doctoral thesis in Indesign CS6. I did the separate files for each chapter, after that, I joined the files in a document of a book. Now, I need to create a table of contents and want to do using the Table of contents style.

I've already customized a table style content in which I said Indesign which paragraph styles should be included in the table of contents. I also created new paragraph styles to use as entry style. When you create a table of contents the lay-out seems just perfect, except that I set the text for being "fat" in my paragraph style, but it comes in the form of 'regular' text in my table of contents. Now I can pass this "BOLD" text by selecting it and alt + shift clicking on the paragraph style in the paragraph style menu. Problem is that after updating the table of contents text back to "regular". All the other stuff that I defined in the paragraph for entry style style (e.g., tablets, the font size, leading) are applied.

How can I solve this problem? I would appreciate your comments, because it's annoying me a lot: S.

    Thanks a lot already!

Did you apply a character style to your topics throughout the book?

If so, this could cause the erratic behavior that you see.

Check your table of contents update to see if there is a character applied to the imported text style.

  • All paragraph Styles are white color ([Book])

Although I put the characters in black color, whenever a paragraph style is applied changes to text [Book]. I can then highlight the text and change the color manually, but it is very time consuming. The button 'Clear the replacements' returns just the white text - if InDesign certainly think that style wants to be white. Is this a bug?

    Thank you.

The paragraph style is defined on paper for the fill color or you have a character Hat applied style changes the color of paper.

  • Paragraph styles are an alphabetical/digital count of a separate paragraph style.

I need help to figure out how I can configure several paragraph styles, so you can start a digital count - have an alphabetical numbering inside the digital count - and then continue with the first, digital original County.

I know that I based the alphabetical style off the digital-, but I advanced and based on any model b/c I thought that it was playing with her...

Please help me if you can, I appreaciate it!

When you set up the numbering of the paragraph style properties dialog box, there is a parameter 'list '. Used to create a new list for each p.style that must have its own numbering system, so that they different styles do not interfere.

  • Automatic loading for InCopy of InDesign paragraph style?

Once I created a new empty text box in InDesign, and then add what he for InCopy assignment, how can I get all my paragraph styles is displayed automatically in the InCopy document? at the present time, only 1 model is when open. The copywriter is to have to load for each text box.

All versions are more recent as of yesterday, March 2.

When the InCopy user opens him InDesign file or assignment - the preferred/normal workflow - all paragraph styles are included. Then they scroll the document to find your text block empty and then check it out for editing. All styles are always at their disposal.

Looks like you have IC users open linked InCopy stories (BCTI files) directly. It is possible to do, but as you have seen, a side effect is that then they get only the styles used in this story. (Along w / many other disadvantages.) Since there is no text in the history, there is no recorded her styles.

  • best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

    Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

  • Is it possible to automatically check the paragraph Styles?

Changes to a paragraph style are indexed with a star. That shows you where the styles are not applied correctly - as long the cursor is in this line or paragraph.

But is there a way to index changes automatically? As you can for example check and index wrong spelling by the correction tools or the low resolution of preflight...?

To show all the "bad points" without clicking on each paragraph.

You can create a custom preflight profile to check text replacements: InDesign help | Preflight files before transfer. The property that you want to check is 'Text', then 'Paragraph Style and character Style overrides'. Be sure to turn off all other controls, because they slow down the whole process.

To check if all paragraphs will have a style assigned, search for [no paragraph Style]: InDesign help | Find/replace, scroll down to find and edit the text in the shape.

  • Automatically apply "next paragraph Style...". "in place of the text

I want to import an Excel (arrow) line 8 500 spreadsheet into InDesign and have it add the necessary number of pages and text related frameworks can flow text AND format her, lines spare in 1 2 paragraph styles. I can do everything until it automatically formatting the text. Paragraph Styles are set up for "Style of next paragraph...". "but it doesn't seem to work on the text. Can anyone help?

I don't know if this can be done with a table, which is probably what you get from placing your excel file. A table Style might work.

If you convert a table to text, however, you can select all, right-click on the name of the first style that you need in the paragraph styles Panel, and then choose apply and following style.

  • Change a setting, now paragraph Styles no character longer apply long Formats

    Hi all

I use InDesign CS4 ver 6.0 on Mac OS 10.5.8.

My document has loaded in her paragraph Styles. When I click on the text in my document, the corresponding paragraph Styles are highlighted in the paragraph Styles window. But the text is not formatted with character formatting that is associated with the paragraph Style.

I took a glance at my character Styles window, and I see that, regardless of the selected paragraph Style, the text on the page is locked in a single character Style, substituting the selected paragraph Style.

I've must have changed a parameter but do not know which. Someone has any advice on how to get to InDesign to apply the formatting of characters specified in paragraph Styles.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Given that the others don't tell you how to remove the default character style setting, I'll do it. With no active text cursor, will the character styles, and choose [none]. Do theat in a doc open to fix this doc. Do it with no docs open to fix all of the new files.

  • In the library grayed out paragraph styles

I have a few paragraph styles in my library that have been created in Illustrator. In Photoshop, they are grayed out and cannot be applied.

How can I get these styles of the library to work in Photoshop?

    styles.gif

Paragraph styles are simply not one of the types of library that supports Photoshop. Note the bottom of the library panel in Photoshop and Illustrator, you will see a different set of icons representing the types of items that you can add to the library from a document (and so who can be added in a document).

    For Photoshop, these are:

Graphics, Style of character, layer Style, and foreground color.

(See: cloud creative libraries in Photoshop)

    For Illustrator, these are:

Graphics, paragraph Style, character Style, and foreground color.

You can get the behavior very buggy if you aren't careful with moving paragraph styles!

Either way, the right way to move from a paragraph style is like this (you will need to edit the code below as well as p becomes a reference to a real paragraph style):

    d = app.activeDocument;

    p = / * some paragraph style in a group of para-style * /.

The following line move p in paragraph style out of his group and in the list of paragraph styles in the document d

    p.Move (LocationOptions.UNKNOWN, d);

  • InCopy paragraph Style keyboard Short cut errors

I use CS 6 and found the following in InCopy:

    1. I create shortcuts to my paragraph and character styles on my Mac OS. For example, 'CMD' + '1' defines the style of paragraph in "Introduction."
    2. I opened the file on my computer runs as InCopy CS 6 instead of keyboard shortcuts becomes 'CTRL' + '1' for the 'Introduction' paragraph style, as happens with InDesign, they shortcuts keyboard become something of seemingly random, can case 'CTRL' +'s.

As InCopy does not support the characters not digital keyboard shortcuts for these shortcuts no longer work. I tried the same process using InDesign files and shortcuts here went from 'CMD' + '1' for the style of subsection 'Introduction', 'CTRL' + '1 '. Is this a known problem or have I made a mistake on the way?

    Kind regards

  • Help on using paragraph styles...

When I create a paragraph of a bit of text style, paragraph style area picks him up and when the preview is checked it looks perfect, then when I press on apply, completely it messes up. The text reduced one, and sometimes it turns into itallics.

Nobody knows the reason why this is happening?

    Thank you very much

    Sam

I saw this happen when a character Style is applied to the text. Select all the text in a paragraph and character Styles palette, choose break link to Style, do the same thing in the paragraph Style palette (just to be safe), and then create a new paragraph style.
