Partitioning & disk backup

I read I have to 'repartition' disk hard if I want to install UbuntuStudio on a situation of dual boot with Windows. This sounds scarey & beyond my skills. In addition, as a precaution, to have the "backup/restore disk to hand, but my computer (on Vista Home Premium), didn't with this record that I can remember. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

If you have problems here are the methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

See you soon.

  • Hello. I created an image of HD main on a hard drive external drive. It is: HD used 282 GB 320 GB, disk backup image has 251 gb. Is all backed up? Can anyone help on this? Thank you

Hello. I created a disk image of my mac HD on an external hard drive. It is: my mac HD is used 282 320 GB, backup disk image, I did a 251 gb. Is all backed up? I need to be sure before you reformat the HD and install mac so original. Can anyone help on this? Thank you

    Probably not.

Need an external hard drive as large or larger than the drive you want to back up.

You have not said what backup software you are using.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner by https://bombich.com/ $40.00 there. You can also use Super Duper.

These two products will make a bootable backup complete or a clone of you existing hard drive, including your recovery partition.

Once you made the backup, if your hard drive has never been to fail, you could simply start on the external backup drive.

If you back up because you're upgrading the hard drive for an SSD, you can put the SSD in an external enclosure and clone your drive in the SSD, test it, and then replace the HD when you are confident that it works well.

P.S. External hard drives are cheap these days. Here is an example: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-my-passport-ultra-1tb-external-usb-3-0-2-0-portab le-hard-drive-classic-black/7869174.p? id...

  • partitioned disks

I have 3 drives partitioned on my Windows 7 HOME machine:

C being the "Startup disk" with all my programs and data ~ understood!
    Here's my dilemma:
E is called '' reserve system, '' and contains 3 files when the poster: a $recycle.bin, a startup folder and a folder of remote programs. It's only 38 mb in size and these 3 files have not changed, since May of 2013 and the other two not since July and August of 2012!
the 3rd disc is called "Secondary" F and is 19.4 Go. He has a few listed files: another $recycle.bin, program files (x 86) program files, programdata, remote programs, users, and windows. I think I should have copied the c files on this partition f in June of 2013 as a backup, I don't know, but June 3, 2013 is changing the most recent what on the f drive.
My question is this: can I NEED E or F? Can I safely delete E and F? Do you have Windows 7 create these partitions when installed, or...?

It almost seems as if these disk partitions could have already altered, or least used outside their original purpose.

The system reserve partition is created by Windows for its own use. It would normally be a hidden partition, 100MB in size. This thread talking about the possibility of remove:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/can-i-delete-the-system-reserved-partition-from/656014d2-A516-46e6-a841-d0f9333ecb48

Your "Secondary" partition strangely resembles a (former?) system recovery partition that the computer manufacturer would have placed on the hard drive. These scores are often hidden and containing files of resettlement for the operating system, drivers and other software than the OEM supplied with the computer. The recovery of these partitions feature can be made unusable if the partition is affected. You want to ensure that you have a working set of the recovery disc for the PC before you may change this partition or delete.

How to make a backup and recovery on a USB

    Hi Alecias,

If I understand correctly you want to know how to create the recovery disk in Windows 8.

Your PC may have come with a recovery image, which is used to update or reset your PC. The recovery image is stored on a dedicated PC recovery partition and is usually 3-6 GB in size. Windows 8 includes an integrated tool to create a recovery USB disk. Please see the link below on how to create a recovery USB disk.

  • resizing HARD disk partitions/disks

looking for guidance and advice please.  Have the s10-3 with 160 GB HARD drive that comes with the OEM partition for a restore (good) the hidden partition (OK) key and then a C drive which is 103 GB and poartition D: Lenovo, which has 30 GB - I understand the D drive is houses all pilots and is also implemented by default for win7 save files from C to D.  In my case there is no files on the netbook I don't have elsewhere, and I have a secondary backup through an external HARD drive that I use regularly.  So what I want to do is re - allocate the majority of drive D say 20 GB on drive C and consider up to 123 Go.

    How can I do this?

I had a f = brief foray into windos Disk Manager which allowed me to reduce the drive D to 10 GB, but put in place another F drive because it is located in the same partition as drive D and I did not see an order to transfer the volume F and C.

So is - this possible and if so, how?

  • Disk backup does not back up

Yesterdy I've updated for Sierra of MacOs. Everything works well, but since the upgrade, my backup disk refuses to back up. He sees the disc as a "read only"disc." Before the upgrade, it worked normally. What could be wrong and what and how can I change? Thanks in advance.

  • adding the 2nd Time Machine disk backup capability

I have a Mac pro OS X 10.11.5 with two discs devoted to the backup. When I wanted the first filled to the top, then add the second to continue archiving backup files.

I don't want to lose my older archived data in backups on disk 1.

What happens when I add a second drive to add capacity to the Time Machine backups?  Once the first drive is hard full TM then will use the second drive until it is full?

When you add the second drive, I get a warning that the TM will take turns using the disc 1 and disc 2. But 1 disk is full. TM will not delete old information on Drive 1 to make room? If Yes is not good because I want to keep the old data. I just want to keep incremental backups to Drive 2.

    Please specify the feature.

Yes, TM will continue to save on disk 1 and delete older backups and take turns with disk 2. If you want to keep 1 as it is by car, then you must remove it from the list of backup. Start a new backup on disk 2, and continue. In both cases, the disc 2 will make a new full backup of your computer.

I have a cloned backup disk using Super Duper. However, I don't know how to restart the computer using this player instead of inside. Help

Also, will someone please tell me about this selection of a 'Community' to get my post? If my question does not have these localities listed, what should I do?

To choose the volume of reboot, you have two choices:

    1. When starting up, hold down the option and command immediately once you start (or restart) the computer and press them. You will quickly get a screen that will show you the boot floppies and you can choose one with the mouse, the cursor keys or trackpad
    2. Start-up of system preferences, and then select Startup disk
