Pass water damaged hard drive Macbook Pro (mid-2010) to another Macbook Pro (mid-2010)?

Someone accidentally spilled water on my MacBook Pro 'Core i7' 2.66 GHz 15 "mid-2010 and after trying to dry out for a few days, I'm sure that the keyboard is in ruins, and it may be worse (I suspect the logic board like most people), but I need to (would really) keep my documents etc. However, we happen to have an another i7 2.66 GHz 15 "mid 2010 Macbook Pro lying around not being used. I'm a student in computer engineering and I'm pretty good with electronics and figure, that I can use the practice, so I was planning on trying to replace the keyboard myself, but I plan on getting a new MBP in the next few months, so I'd rather do less work if possible. MY MAIN QUESTION IS: since I'm very lucky and I have two little nearly exact same model MBP can put the hard drive of the damaged water MBP (also long the HDD no is not damaged by water) in the MBP running? And if so, what would be my challenges and if it works well enough to use for a month or two? Thank you!

TLDR: I can take a HDD on a MBP and put it in a similar model without too much difficulty?

Yes, but you're probably better to put in an envelope instead. If you start another Mac, or in an enclosure closed or internally, a very small number of parameters will not be postponed, and some commercial programs may refuse to run.

Physically, you can move the HD on your current computer and install it in the new computer.

You have backups of your photos and files of catalog on another disc? If so, you can physically take the backup HD and install it in the new computer. If this isn't the case, then invest in an external hard drive for backups (and transfers) is highly recommended. You live very dangerous if you don't have backups. I wouldn't bother even to make the transfer until you are sure have backups on a different disk.

I guess you could use WiFi, Ethernet or a cloud like DropBox service.

You could borrow an external HD to a relative or friend.

  • Which hard drive MacBook Pro 2012

    Hello

I have Non - Retana MacBook Pro 2012, it has its default 500 GB hard drive, it is too small and too slow.

I have found that I can put a 2 TB in current housing and a second in the SuperDrive slot should I want to.

But my Question, above all, the it restrictions on the brand that I can use?

If I wanted a SSD I know not all readers of work with her because of the TRIM settings, but I still don't know what to do if I went to SSD.

Could I ask for some advice please on this please.

I have £100 to spend so I was counting on a HARD drive not SSD for the more size.

Any HDD SATA with a 2.5 form factor "will be compatible with your MBP.  Here are some examples:

If you are considering an SSD, I recommend OWC and Crucial as the best sources.

  • Can't erase hard drive MacBook Pro - "could not disassemble the drive.

I lost my original install discs Mountain Lion. Spin a MacBook Pro (2011 model).

I found some articles that show you how to remove & reinstall everything without use of the physical disks. It is to restart my MacBook, pressing command-R, will using this toerase my hard drive and disk utilities

However, when I try to wipe my drive, this error message appears: "erase disc failed with the error: failed to unmount disk.»

I have attached a picture of the error that is displayed.

On the left side of the utility window of disc (see attachment), there where hard disks are displayed, it shows the drive of 500 GB Toshiba MK. Directly below is the option "Macintosh HD."

This error ONLY appears when I try to erase the disc from Toshiba. But this allowed me to erase the hard drive Macintosh option. Why is this? My drive was nonetheless erased? Or I still have to do something else?

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

  • Question of replacement for the hard drive MacBook Pro Late 2008

    Hello

My MBP HD headed to the exit so I'll take the plunge and get a replacement SSD to install it.  Being not too tech savvie I'm trying to cover all the bases before starting the replacement so I think I'm OK to get to the old and a new one outside.

I read that a clean install of Mac OS X is recommended.  The plan is to install the new SSD and connect the old HD the MBP for a speaker for the migration of files once the SSD has been formatted and installed operating system.  One of my questions is what OS can / should I install in the first place on the new SSD.  I have the Leopard installation disc that came with the MBP, I also have a Snow Leopard install disc I bought (this is the version 10.6.3).  Start with the Snow Leopard disc or do I have to install Leopard first?  I would get the new OS SSD up to version I'm currently on (10.7.5).

My other question is around RAM.  As part of the upgrade, I plan to replace and max of RAM, I've seen is now 8 GB between the two slots.  I read what the maximum capacity to 8 as part of an update of the firmware.  So the question is: should I do all updates of OS before installing the RAM?  The MBP would difficult treat 8GB if the firmware update is not installed through the different software updates that will be needed once the OS is installed on the SSD?

    Advice/suggestions appreciated.

    See you soon

    J

Replace the RAM can be done at any time. If you have already downloaded the firmware required, it has already updated your material and will not be lost when you replace the hard drive. However, according to Apple, your computer can manage only a 4 GB. I could be missing something...

See here: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) - technical data sheet

As far as your OS issue, the best thing to do is get the updated software to match the information that you are migrating back (to make sure no problem with migration). The best way to do it, is to download recovery disk wizard and install it on an extra USB key. This allows you to install Lion without having to install Leopard or Snow Leopard first. This will also use disk utility to format the new SSD correctly.

  • Hard drive MacBook Pro broken?

    Hi all

Last night my Macbook hung - spinning wheel and non-sponsive so difficult to hold down the power button and I think I have hard disk problems:

I get the grey folder flashing when I start.

Boot in safe mode does not work.

Boot in Apple Hardware test does not work

I can boot to OS X Utilities (cmd + r) and have tried to restore from a backup and it does not find a local disk to restore. I have a backup stored on the time machine.

I also tried to restore Mac OS X from the same menu - and even when it does not find a local disk to restore.

I ran disk in the same menu utility and I do not get an option to check the disk (in gray) or erase disc (also grey).

Can anyone advise on the next steps before I take it down to the Apple store? Far from being a guru on this stuff! MacBook is 13 "and 5 years with 512 MB hard drive. Ran the Mavericks.

    Thanks in advance!

  • During the stoppage of the partition, partition still on the hard drive Macbook

Tonight I went to use Bootcamp to get 8.1 Windows on my MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, end of 2013), El Capitan 10.11.3 running. I had about 120 GB on my hard drive before you start. My Macbook has made to pay all the time.

I have my serial number for 8.1 I was going to install 8.1 then update to 10. I had the. ISO on my desk and I've been using a 16 GB flash drive. Everything was going well (it does not seem to take a bit to download the necessary files for the flash player) and when I got to the next step to partition my hard drive I chose 50 GB for Windows. He began partitioning and I had to got for a second and of course when I got home it was on the screen to type my password. I thought for a second, he finished, but then he said that he had to stop unexpectedly.

I went to open bootcamp and it just took me the steps from beginning. Now my problem is that I have 50 GB of the partition and I don't know how to get it back. I rebooted my Macbook, CMD + R, go to disk utility and ran first aid on the hard drive. He was executed successfully, but my hard drive is still missing as 50 GB. I restarted and went to the utility disk on my office and made the same thing. This time around the first aid took a little longer to work so I thought I had it, but these 50 GB are still missing.

Anyone know how I can return these 50 GB? I prefer not to format my hard drive and start over. I just want back the 50 GB. Also, if anyone has the answer as to why he closed Middle partition would be great as well so I can make sure I do it correctly this time.

    Thank you.

Of OSX Treminal, please after the output of the following commands.

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

Enter your password when you are prompted by sudo.

    mid-2013

So I thought to do a factory restore and reinstall windows, but because this machine has been shipped in mid-2013, it has been bundled with windows 8 and 8.1 not. I cannot recover my system with the options of windows using the boot disk, I received when purchasing.

Or reinstall the system via the DVD starts works. Installation could not see my hard drives correctly or missing drivers.

Now, I did a system restore (Yes surprisingly has started up normally this morning) but I am always a little scared and would have preferred a clean install.

Decided to buy Alienrespawn Premium to try to restore my original recovery Image and reinstall the original windows 8 from scratch. But during the selection of these options, I get the message that the image is missing or incomplete. When I try to select another HARD drive he asks to insert a disk external HARD at least 100 GB on this subject. Is there an internal HDD option and select put this system up? I've got 2 750 GB SATA HARD drive and the other has been completely formatted for backup reasons...

Could someone please help me and tell me what to do in this case?

A clean install would be the best way to go, but I tried everything I found on google in communities and to but still do not get them to factory reset my PC...

    Thanks in advance

My warranty has expired in order to request a backup CD is not going to work I'm afraid...

I have a cd provided dell with the laptop, but as said my laptop has been delivered with WIN8 not earned 8.1

I can't do a clean install, as described in the article, because it tells me to load the required drivers and there is a missing part so that my cd is in the laptop...

I need to find a way to recover the original recovery on the HARD drive in order to reinstall the complete system with the factory settings...

Please tell me how to do this.

It looks like your BIOS may be on the RAID.

    The value of the BIOS:

    SATA Mode = AHCI Mode

    = UEFI boot mode

DVD Win7, Win-8-DVD, or a USB flash drive should now start. Use the one-time-starting F12 menu.

  • Hard drive MacBook Air full when using only iclouddrive

Can anyone help please.  I'm sure that its very simple.  I have a Macbook Air and create books for children.  I saved all the files on my iclouddrive account, thinking that I don't use space on my hard drive!  However, my hard drive is now complete.  I thought by storing all my files on the cloud, the hard drive of my computer would be pretty empty, after all this is why I bought a Macbook Air!  I asked for support to an apple store and they said that some Macbook Air have a bug that duplicates files and I need to check the files are uploaded on my drive to iCloud and then re - install the OS on my MBAir to get rid of the bug

3 questions: it will work.  Y at - it a simpler way and he will wipe away the files on iCloud drive at the same time or they will be safe until I have access again to my newly cleaned MBAir?

    help most appreciated.

    Badger

If you have the Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud drive turned on, then all files that you have stored in iCloud drive to https://www.icloud.com/ will have a local copy on your Mac. It's not a bug, this is how it is designed to work. iCloud Drive is mainly designed for the synchronization of data between devices and is not intended as a storage cloud solution only.

  • Replacement of hard drives NAS Pro StorCenter ix4-200r 2.1.48.30125

    Hi all

I need your help with replacement of disks problem

I have an Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS ix4-200r (Firmware 2.1.48.30125) installed originally with 4 x 1 TB of hard drives.
I had to replace a faulty drive, and on this occasion, I replaced 4 disks, one at a time at WD 2 TB SATA - WD20EFRX.

My questions are the system will start after reboot?

How can I make the system to use all available capacity (almost 6 to)?

When I look at the folders I can still see the original capacity (about 2.7 TB)
However when I look at disk management I see 1.8 to 4 disks each.

    Thank you

    Michael

    Hello micshe,

After an upgrade of capacity, you must perform a reset of factory from the user interface in order to force a rebuild and prepare the SIN to use the extra space.

There are also some SuperDuper. I used a few years ago, but both loved CCC much more. I know others like SD, however.

  • Hard drive Satellite Pro C650 problem

Hi, a friend of mine's laptop in me to take a look because he wasn't starting. He was going straight to boot from the network map, so a little thought that it's a dead hard drive. Then, I checked the BIOS and as expected not detected HARD drive. Removed hard drive and reinstall, same problem. Then I tried another working SATA drive I've saved, not detected in the BIOS. I then tried the hard drive of my HP Elitebook 6930p for laptop, yet undetected work.

Someone at - he fell on this issue before, it looks like a question of Council?

    Thank you

    Vincent

    Hi Vincent

When you set the BIOS to default settings is the problem persists? Another SATA drive recognized, or not?

It is not easy to say what the problem is, but maybe is the faulty disk controller.
