Original title: help! My PC won't start!

Hi, my computer Windows 8 really does start. On the screen, I see just the windows logo with "prepare auto repair. After, there is a message: 'automatic repair is unable to repair your PC' and ' Log: C:\windows\System32\Srt\SrtTrail.

I try with everything I can, recovery CD and USB, refresh, auto repair, I can't back up my files because I have not found any extern with 208 GB storage... So I can't really reset my PC without losing my files.

What can I do to start my PC, without losing my files.

PLEASE, I BEG YOU! Help me!!! PLEASE, I BEG YOU!

Hello

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description, I understand that you are unable to start your computer.

This could occur due to system conflicts.

Try the steps.

If the auto repair is unable to repair your PC, select "Advanced options" and then "Troubleshooting."

  1. Select 'Advanced options', then 'command prompt'.
  2. If you are prompted, enter the password for the user name.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press ENTER.

Bootrec /fixMBR
Bootrec /Fixboot
Bootrec /rebuildBCD

Restart the computer and check the issue.

Hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need any other help with Windows in the future. We will be happy to help you.

Does anyone know what the code above means?

    Paul.

Your long test failed.  I wouldn't replace the drive if I felt it unnecessary.

You'd better replace but weather that you do it yourself or not, I can't comment. HP has no instructions for your model on the replacement of this player.

If your comfortable with DIY, go ahead as long as its out of warranty.

Specs say it has a 256 GB SSD M.2

Personally, I would like to look at the disc before I ordered one, to make sure that I get the correct type.

    Good luck.

  • System does not boot, get the white screen after preparation for auto repair

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8 and yesterday there were some ongoing update and must restart.  When the computer reboots, it took some time and then I got a blue screen (very quickly) who said something as she encountered a problem and needs to fix (it is really fast and I can't see the whole text).  Then goes and comes back as it is booting (with the toshiba logo) and he says prepare auto repair.  Then it goes to a white screen. I tried to get into the HARD drive recovery (power with F12) and when I select HDD Recovery and confirm Yes, it just goes to a blank screen.  I went into the Setup utility (powering now F2 while) and has chosen default install and who does not either (although it has fixed the problem with my keyboard backlight does not). Support of Toshiba said that it is the operating system, not the hard drive.  But I need a drive recovery media that will scan all.  Anyone know other options?  I have a disc of recovery of a Microsoft coming 8 Pro (dell).  Would it be an option, to use it (I got it on a flash drive) and start-up of that?  Thanks for the help.

    Hi John,.

    Thank you for the update.

Given that you want to use the Windows 8.1 recovery disk, you won't perhaps able to start Windows 8 using Windows 8.1 because the computer may not be able to find the files of Windows 8 start to recover.

Yes, you pouvez install 8.1 Windows using the recovery disk. However, you may not be able to perform the upgrade option when installing Windows 8.1. When you click install now and follow the instructions, you must choose the Custom Advanced option to continue installation. Choose Advanced custom options will create a folder in the C: drive (or any other partition when you do not want to install) named the Windows.old folder which expected to have all of your files and documents of previous installation and are accessible.

Make sure you have the drivers available for the devices installed on the computer as network card, drivers etc. of video card you install Windows 8.1.

Hope the information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

    Thank you.

  • Satellite P200 - 17 c - Vista won't start up - how replace/repair boot.ini

    Hello

I have a Toshiba P200 - 17 c of the vista computer and it won't start, freezes on the splash screen. I have
used iso image to boot from and ran repair disk, makes no difference.
Machine will not get beyond microsoft loading page (with yellowish scroll bar).

My question is: How can I replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.

I have not (my fault) create a back up or restore disk.
After booting the machine from cd, system repair running and try to run the system restore doesn't work...

Can anyone advise on a way to replace/repair boot.ini or turn off the drivers?

Try to avoid to pay another £30 pounds for a recovery disc that I already paid for the licensed software, don't know why.
If you pay because you do not get a copy of Vista with machine...

Anyway any help would be most appreciated.

    Hello

    > How to replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.
I doubt that this could be done under Vista cannot modify the boot.ini as on Win XP OS.
To edit the boot.ini file you must use the BCDEDIT command.
However, I put t think it would start the Vista correctly.

    In my opinion you have two options;
You can use the safe mode and might attempt to start the Vista slim or you have to reinstall the entire operating system yet.
But I doubt you'll be able to start in safe mode if the system repair and system restore didn't work too.

So in my opinion the last real solution could be the new facility.

  • Satellite Pro C850-1FN stucks in the form of preparation of auto repair

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro C850 1FN and for some reason it stuck in a display of automatic preparation for startup repair. He will be sitting with the text on the screen, and after 8 minutes bluescreen shows then talk about a problem and then re boot PC.

    The cycle then continues.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Hello

It looks like the repair automatic isn t possible.
Have you tried another HARD drive recovery option?

The HARD drive recovery process would begin the new system, but also the driver installation and would set the laptop back to factory settings.

I think that if the system repair isn't possible, your next step should be the HARD drive recovery.
In case the recovery of HARD drive would not work too, then you should use the recovery disc.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine guest after receiving "License expired message" host ESXi 5.5

I can't start computer virtual invited after receiving "License expired message" 5.5 ESXi host. I am able to copy the vm folder prompted with all its files using WinSCP I had already installed on a desktop computer in the network.

However, it takes an extremely long time to download the VM [2.5 mb/s], which is of course a different question.

It seems that I was still on the trial with my vsphere client license, until it expired. I am able to view the virtual machine within the workstation 10, but I can't turn it on. It says "Please install a license to power on this computer" there is no way to install a license anywhere.

My question is... .will I be able to access this virtual machine if I download on an external hard drive, then add it to 10 VMWorkstation that I possess a current valid license?

Even if the evaluation license has expired, you should be able to connect to the ESXi host using the vSphere Client and follow the steps mentioned in the article that I posted before you enter the free license key.

  • HP ENVY TS m6 Sleekbook: HP ENVY TS m6 Sleekbook will prepare the auto repair when booting with Seagate Backup Plus 2 to

I had problems for some time with my HP ENVY when you restart.   I have a backup Seagate more Desktop 2 TB connected via a USB hub.    When it is connected and restarting the computer, it goes to the screen to "prepare the AutoFix.   So I have to unplug and restart and that's fine.     I don't know why it continues to be.   I checked my BIOS and it should boot from the hard drive first.     Any ideas?

    @mikejenkins1,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  Using a USB hub, you get a signal from one of the disks is trying to make a repair due to a possible disconnection during a writing session.  You will need to do is a test on the external drives to see if one of them has problems.  Try to make a direct connect with each drive connected by tonight and see if they are the problem on their own.

If one of them is causing the problem, try and use the test drive of windows.  Here is a link to help you with that.

    Check a drive for errors

Please let me know how things are going.

Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

    Hello

The error code 24 characters (PLM961 - 5 H0815 - XD0141-600SV 3) is a failure of the short test (DST) disk Self and would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • Tecra A4 won't start no-switches power off after 3 seconds

    Hey all,.

I really hope you can help me on this. I recently bought a step expensive laptop Toshiba Tecra A4 to Ebay. He said there is a disk failure hard only... it's not.

When I try to turn on the laptop, the lights come on and the DVD player starts to turn... everything is normal. But then after about 3 seconds it stops before that it can reach the bootscreen - as I would remove the power cable.
The very strange thing is that sometimes we'll tell every 1 15 try the laptop starts as it should be and start my Linux live CD. Then I can work for hours, and bad don't get passes nothing... until I want to turn it back on. Then the game starts from the beginning.

    I tried already to:

-Remove the hard drive from default
    -remove the power cable
    -only remove the battery
-replace the RAM or be one of the two
    -to remove the two RAM
-remove the power cable and the battery during the night to reset the CMOS

    ... nothing has changed.

I would be very happy if someone could help me. So far, I have found that the writings of forum without response to this problem in the WWW - if at least I'm not the only crazy :-)

I use Lightroom since version 3 and never had a problem like this. I've updated my iMac with OS X El Capitan three days ago. After the upgrade I wanted to use Lightroom 6.6.1 but it does not start. It seems that it will start but suddenly it closes without any messages. The next time I try to start Lightroom again it closes immediately, I don't even see the first screen displayed every time that we start a program of Adobe.

    I found a solution!

There is problem of ubuntu, new kernel is bad and it's a bug.

To start again just hold SHIFT while your machine virtual machine to the menu shows ubuntu boot.

Select Advanced, then choose more old kernel version and that's all.

After you restart your virtual machine it always start on black screen, you need to delete newes kernel version linux-headers - 4.2.0 - 30 to begin on the old version and problem SOLVED!

    remove the kernel:

    sudo apt-get remove linux-image-4.2.0-30-generic
    sudo update-grub2

    reboot.
