PE T620 (Rackmount) vs Dell MD1000

Hello

a support or perhaps only recommended PowerEdge to connect a Md1000 to a Dell PE T620 (Rackmount)?

Maybe: LSI MegaRAID SAS 928 x series with 2 SFF-8088 external connectors for neighter H800 Dell or Dell H810 Controller is listed as compatible with MD1000 (PERC external storage support matrix)

I think a PERC 5/E should work as well in a T620 (Rackmount) but could also be supported by Dell.

comments are welcome.

Kind regards.

Torsten

The T620 is a newer server you might encounter a few driver problems make him communicate with the MD1000. You are right it is considered not supported and it is because this configuration has never been tested.

I have a problem with my storage system

How can I do with this warning?

    Thank you cordially!

    Sorry for my bad English

I would like to start by getting all updated on the server. Make sure the Bios is being updated, and then update the controller driver and firmware are up to date. Then you must update the storport driver as well and that will get rid of this warning you see here. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

BackupServer is connected with an Intel 520 SFP + optical receiver to the same switch

LSI 9207-8th is also an option but more expensive than labeled dell HBA of LSI (of course it is PCIe 3.0 too ^^)

or a 3801 LSI SAS HBA... but it's PCIe 1.1 and I don't know if this works with the theoretical maximum speed of 2 x 400MiB/s on LTO-6 devices.

LSI SAS 9200-8e HBA is PCIe 2.0

    Torsten Hello,

You can use 2 connectors SAS 6 gb cards in a T620, and work to connect to your quantum i500.  2 maps SAS6gb just needs to be in a crack in x PCIe 8, there are 2 at the T620 & those are 1 & 6 slot.  If these two are full of slot machines, then you should be able to put in one of the X 16 slots & that works as well.  Your x 16 slots are 2,4,5-t, 7on your motherboard.

  • VMWare vSphere4 - esx3.5 - MD1000 - Configuration suggestions

    Ladies and gentlemen,

Relatively new in this area and after a few suggestions - have a Dell PE2900 host running esx 3.5 / VMWare (currently with six virtual machines running Windows Server 2003 and 2008 R2). Attached to it is a Dell MD1000 (via the PERC 6/E adapter) completely filled with drives of 1 TB in RAID 5, giving a combined storage of about 12 TB.

I am aware of the limit of 2 TB virtual disks, but was hoping to find a way to present some of this storage as a 8TB "chunk" for use as a storage area for the video / those resources (for example if all goes well presented as a mapped drive).

    So far have tried: -.

    • Creating a RAID 5 of 8 TB of OpenManage group - cannot see properly in vSphere due to the limit of 2 TB disks
    • Created several TB 1.9 RAID groups and joining these together with extensions - not identify as 'reader' in vSphere due to the limit of 2 TB.

Is it possible to do so under the current configuration? Upgrade of the operating system / software is not currently possible :-(

    Your suggestions are greatly accepted!

If I go into the properties of one of the virtual machines on this host is trying to create a 4 TB drive, I hit the limit of 2 TB virtual disk. Happy to accept that is the limit in my setup, but is it possible to "assemble" these virtual drives of 2 TB?

With Windows, that a solution could also be used to highlight disks to create a greater volume.

  • Proyecto virtualizacion

    Buenas tardes,

Tengo poca experiencia in el mundo virtualizacion are only hace poco me he implies in el tema y tan solo hemos inplementado a small proeycto, pero ahora tenemos a client that needs to respond to alta availability una para sus servidores.

A nivel logico haber back servidores has: 1 server windows 2003 (dominio driver) + SQL Server y 1 servidor correo (there is vera if Widnows o Linux)

Creeis as I can get a good performance? Me aconsejais alguna cabina discos in concreto? Perhaps, mejor seria una cabina Fibra? me aconsejais alguna?

A level of VM than quiero hacer lo're instalar una in each host y TR UN dia surge algun problema en el hard, trasladarla al otro con host Vmotion, Voy encaminado well?

MI otra duda're respecto Al number of processors. In las versiones of ESX that estoy probando tan solo me already utilziar 4 processors in host tienen el cambio y 2 processors to 4 nucleos con lo cual tengo 8 processors?

MI ultima duda is which has las licenses. VOY a utilziar a pc para instalar Virtual Infrastructure y los 2 host control. How many licenses I need para impelentar el sistema anterior?

A greeting is gracias por anticipado

    Hola,

    Entonces con esas maquinas alright.

No you I can recommend cabinas, ago that no he tenido posibilidad trabajar con none (directly as sirvan con iSCSI o NFS).  Trabajo con cabinas Dell MD1000 y PV220S, conectadas a UN servidor.  In una utilizo SAS/SATA discos y en otra SCSI, both have through NFS, me responden well.  Been mejor las MD1000, mas wall.

Para simular iSCSI con he trabajado Datacore, via the software.  Tampoco me puedo quejar del performance than me dan.

Para that need 4 processors in las VMs.  If haces eso, el estara spend esos 4 processors operating system.  If you want that the machine use los 8 processors logicos, have Quebec operation the afinidad in las propiedades of the VM.  No you recommend hacerlo TR claims using vmotion, ago that no podras migrar the Máquina.

Para las maquinas what me comment, con 2 processors cada una, creo as irian well.  Even if tienes ocacion probarlo, primero con prueba 1 a worm than tal.

Lo Las licenses, como you he said, una para VirtualCenter y 2 licenses company of 2 processors.

    A greeting

  • Dell power edge T620 configuration RAID and OS install Question

    Hi all

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. My company recently bought a new server Dell T620 and I'm the one assigned to operate. Unfortunately, I do not have to configure a server with a RAID5 configuration.

My question is, I'm following the directions to Dell that says opening the lifecycle controller, select deploy the operating system. Where I'm stuck is to put the virtual disk. It's my first RAID configuration, and I think that the VD is what windows uses to read total disk space? We run 3 - 1 TB NLS 6.0gbps 7.2 k RPM.

I know 1 TB HARD drive to shows only 930 GB in windows. But for some reason any it offers me a virtual disk up to 1800 GB? I think I need to settle this at least can Go 930?

I can give more details if necessary. But currently, I am stuck on this part and will not go forward unless some.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello acslacker

All you need to do is choose RAID 5, select the 3 disks and accept. It will automatically use all available space.

With discs hard 3x1TB the maximum available space will be approximately 2 TB. Some will disappear in the conversion to binary. It is announced that 930 GB instead of 1 TB. RAID 5 1 HARD drive is used for parity, then you will immediately lose 1 TB. This space will not appear in the usable space. The 1.8 to which it is automatically the list looks correct.

    Thank you

  • Cannot install ESXi 5.5 on Dell PowerEdge T620

    Hello

I have a Dell PowerEdge T620 server and I want to install VMW VSphere Hypervisor 5.5 on that.

I tried 2 ways above, but they are not successful.

    Track 1:
-Start with DVD integrated with server
    -Config for RAID 5
-Choose the option "VMW ESXI 5.5 HDD"
-Error: "the provided raid configuration is not supported" and force reboot me.

    Track 2:
    -L' boot using an ESXI 5.5 CD-ROM
-Follow the step on Setup screen.
-Scan disk step HARD to install the process is too long too long scan...

I hope that an idea can help me solve that.

    Thank you!

You use the ESXi Dell installation?

  • Windows 7 on the server Dell PowerEdge T620

Worst case, you can resell, install a server on it, operating system etc and put it in your living room to show off :)  The case of CaseLabs looks cool, but you'll have to do the same kind of work at home get compatible (and inter compatible) parts for it.

As I said, there is a good chance that everything will be installed and working fine... just to prepare for the unknown, when venturing off the beaten path.  If you have someone knowledgeable who can at least get you headed down a direction where there is a visibility for success, it would be useful... good luck!

  • ESXi 5 install storage Dell T620 No.

    Hello

When you try to install ESXi 5 on my new T620 Dell I have no storage available to install to.   I've deleted and recreated my virtual drive RAID 10, but that did not help.   It doesn't show either all remote storage.   The compatibility list seems to suggest that this server should not give me no problem.  Perc is a PERC H710.

Has anyone experience this problem?   What can I try?    Thank you.

The documentation Dell says that it supports 5.0U1 and 4.1

  • Reference Dell T620 recognizes only 4 of 8 hard drives installed

I bought 7 additional 2 TB drives for my Dell PowerEdge T620, delivered with just 1 such disk is almost a year now.  My model has 8 bays of HARD drive in front and after the installation of 7 new disks that I note that only four drives in the top row of the berries are recognized by THE system BIOS.  I'm running Ubuntu Server 12.04.4 and deliverance 'fdisk-l' lists only four disks, as well (sda, b, c, d).  I hope to set up the disks in a RAID 6 configuration if I can get the system to see eight - is it a simple BIOS setting change?  Please tell me that I don't need another controller or similar?  If it can help on the side of the Dell Support of things, my ST is deleted by the privacy policy.  Kind regards

    Mark D.

In order details, Service number, listed only one RAID controller is the S110 RAID controller onboard.  The S110 is the lower-end controller you can get.  IF you are still using the controller, then the problem is your controller only supports a maximum of 4 disks, AND it does not support RAID 6 (only 0,1,5,10). You should use the H700 for a storage system like that anyway (or the H310 minimum).

If you actually have a high-end controller, then you are very probably absent the second cable SAS controller to the bottom of basket.
