VM connection to an external storage array

Hello everyone

Has anyone connected a virtual machine to an external array as a Powervault MD1000 external storage array?

Reference Dell MD1000

Hello

You can either use a VMDK created on the MD1000, or you can use http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/virtualization-pro/vmware-esx-storage-how-to-get-local-storage-to-act-as-a-raw-disk-for-vms/ as instructions to do what you want to do.

  • HP Envy 15-j139TX: the BIOS using external storage recovery does not work.

My HP Envy 15-j139TX got stuck (frozen) and I force closure by long pressing the power button. I tried to start by pressing the power button, it shows a black screen (display off) and the capslock continues to Flash.

I did research on the problem and discovered that the issue was "the BIOS corruption failure" according to the information on the link below:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01732674/

I tried to recover the BIOS using an external storage device by following the instructions at the link below:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02693833

But it did not work. The lights keep flashing. I have my files b.SC. thesis on the computer and their need for pronto. (If not my life is pretty well made)

I also couldn't find the files for version 10 of Windows (64-bit) to my laptop, so I tried with one I downloaded from another site and I got a BIOS of Windows 8.1 HP site.

Is there anyway I can fix it soon or get my files as soon as possible. Help, please!

Have you ever updated the BIOS before?

If you have, you should be able to recover the BIOS using the Windows key + key B method.

All holding the key Windows + B button down, press the power button and wait to see if the laptop responds with a message of recovery of the BIOS on screen.

As my wife continued his mastery, I insisted on his recording of his files periodically to our home network NAS.

You can remove the hard drive and connect it to a desktop computer to get the files from it. You can connect the hard drive to a USB to sata cable to connect it to a laptop.   Instructions to access the disk by opening the back door are on page 42 of the maintenance and service guide. The hard drive is part replaceable by the user, so you don't have to worry about voiding the warranty.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c03943414

Your notebook is new enough to have the recovery key enter BIOS update available. Use the F.65 version in the Windows 8.1 driver download section. the softpaq is at the following ADDRESS.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp69501-70000/sp69886.exe

You will need at least 256 MB usb key to create a USB rcovery to recover the BIOS with. BIOS update softpaq will offer the opportunity of creating a recovery USB. I used the method on multiple occasions and it worked for me.

  • WRT1900AC of external storage outside the Local network

I'm trying to set up my WRT1900AC router to access a USB attached as an external storage device. I can access the drive when I'm on the LAN, but I had no success accessing outside my local network. I enabled the FTP option in the section of external storage. With the FTP option is enabled, it then points me to the IP address that my cable modem ISP attributed to the router (192.168.0.2). Obviously this won't work from the outside world because it is not the IPV6 address. I install my modem cable to the port before 21-the 192.168.0.2 address and tried to access from outside by using my address IPV6 (ftp://77.XX.XXX.XX:21) but it will not connect. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, as I obviously don't do something here.

Hello, Steve99888. You must configure the settings of folder first. Check out this link.

  • WRT1900AC - external storage - not detected

I have an external storage drive is not detected. I can plug in a USB key on the router and have found things. When I plug my external hard drive into the router, I get the name of the drive but the router does not detect the size, and I can't access the drive. The only error I get is on the Media Server tab when I click on add a new folder:

    /jnap/storage/ListSubdirectories -- Status: 200 OK
     Date: Thu, 11 Feb 2016 03:36:53 GMT
     Server: lighttpd/1.4.34
     Connection: close
     Content-Length: 37
     Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8

When I contacted Linksys support they said essentially that since my drive hard is not on their approved list, has nothing they will do to help understand why things don't work. I tried to plug my drive into a computer and everything works so I know the drive itself is good. It's just a matter of getting the router also detect the drive. The drive is formatted in NTFS.

The router says it's firmware is up to date 1.1.10.167514. I tried to reboot the router. The only thing I have not tried yet is a factory reset.

    It solved!

The only way that I came to this solution was to use Linux. When I tried to plug the drive into a machine Windows the drive appears fine, but when I plugged the drive on a Linux machine and tried to mount it, I got a message saying that he could not climb because of some windows something or other. I think it happened, I had originally this drive in a windows-based Office Tower. I probably throught windows stopped but in reality it is only in hibernation. So the left Hibernate trace settings on the drive after I unplugged and tried to plug it into the router. The solution was to reconnect the drive on the windows machine, make a clean shutdown and then try to plug in the router. Once the router has seen the car and ability. I still had to tell the router to restart so that other computers can access the network share, but in the end, everything works fine.

I am just posting this in case someone else found this useful if they have they previously used on another computer in the car, do a clean shutdown before attempting to connect to the router.

  • Persistence of info external storage device music

I have a 16 GB USB with adapter OTG. Because I'm running out of space on my phone, I keep my music on the USB port. I can download music info (which is a bit incorrect, but that's another story) for music, but as soon as I eject the USB, all the music info is lost. This only happens when the phone is turned on. Is there a way to stop the lost music info when external storage devices are removed with music on them?

Yes: Connect this USB to your PC and use software Media Go update info music, phone updates is stored locally on the phone itself, so if you remove the USB key, reset the phone or deleted from the media database updates will be lost. Also is it better to update the media on the USB.

After entering the external storage devices such as smart, external hard drives and flash cards, these devices cards indicate connection to the computer and the computer indicates recognition of them all in the 'auto play' windows, which disappear very quickly. I find these devices listed in Device Manager, but their icons do not appear in 'computer '.

    Hello

Check if the hard drive, Flash card and external gets detected in disk management. If it gets detected in disk management, and then format the disk and assign a drive letter.

    Follow these steps:
    a. Click Start and type diskmgmt.msc (command to open disk management) in the start search box and press ENTER.
    b. If you see the SD card or external hard drive, then right-click on the drive and select Format.
NOTE: Please check that you back up all data on the disks before get you in shape.

  • USB port - C Dell XPS 13 9350 and external storage

    Hello everyone,

I have a 3.1 USB enclosure external (Vantec Nexstar USB 3.1, model # NST - 270a 31 - BK) that I connect to the USB - C (Thunderbird 3) of my XPS 13 laptop 9350 port.  The player does not start even after using two different 3.1 USB cables.  I installed all the USB drivers and Thunderbird from the Dell Web site and active port in the BIOS, but still have no chance to get the player to run.

That's when I plug the player into a standard USB port with a USB 3.0 cable, boots road to the top and is recognized by the laptop without problem.  So if my diagnosis was made correctly, the USB box and wiring is not defective, so the problem must lie with the USB - C port.  Has anyone successfully used port USB - C to access the external storage with a bit of luck?

    See you soon,.

    Kokanee

In another thread ("XPS 13 9350 - SSD USB C 3.1 - very unstable/not usable '-I can not add links), the following fixed my problem by using a drive HARD USB 3.0 with the Dell USB - C for HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB3.1 adapter:

... the adapter USB - C and WiFi are kind of material and power wise. If you go to the options of the advance of the WiFi adapter and change the WiFi output at 75%, this solves a lot of problems with the connection / disconnection of USB - C questions. Exit at 75% reduction does not affect your connection on wireless networks.

My HARD drive kept connect/disconnect when you use the adapter, but this correction took care of her.

  • Configuration of MXL port for PS-M4110 storage array

    Dear all,

I have to configure my Force10 MXL GbE 10/40 for PS-M4110 storage array. I have two PS-M4110 connected to ports 0/13 and 0/15. I have configured the following way.

FTOS (conf) # don't activate any dcb

    FTOS (conf) # enable iscsi

Configuring the ports 0/13 and 0/15 (ditto)

    OTF (conf-if-you-0/15) con #sho
    !
    interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/13
    no ip address
    MTU 12000
    hybrid portmode
    switchport
    FlowControl rx tx off
    spanning tree bpmh edge-port
    spanning tree rstp edge port
    spanning tree portfast 0
    spanning tree pvst edge-port
    Profile-compellent iSCSI
    no downtime

I just need to know if these settings are correct. And what I have to configure iscsi target (3 260 860) ip address of the port-(A.B.C.D) as well? If Yes, then what IP should be given here? Group-IPaddress?

I used this guide as a reference.

    http://Dell.to/1uxp4LW

And it seems that you have everything in place. The guide recommends not to use iscsi optimization for large san deployments. You can browse the guide too, just to double check.

    I have the following equipment:

    -HP Proliant DL360e

    Storage array - HP P2000 G3

The software to install is VMware 5.1. I download the ISO on the HP website.

I could install VM disk on the DL360e when the storage array is not connected.

I could connect to the storage array and configure the raid array by using the network card.

    The problem:

At startup, when I connect the HP H221 of the controller cable to the storage group. The server hangs when you try to initialize the H221. The message is "initialization".

If I connect the cable after booting, I can't find storage array P2000.

    Any ideas?

  • External storage from HDS/HLS: invoking files stored on an external drive.

Followed by the following article to add an external hard drive to store our vod stream (the article is no longer available):

FMS 4.5 Streaming HDS of no default location

Connected an external hard drive on the server with the following folders to this topic (vod2 > media), so that the path is: G:\vod2\media. New video files are located in the last folder (media).

    1. update the: rootinstall/conf/fms.ini: adding a new parameter for HTTP and RTMP streaming: VOD_COMMON_DIR_2 = G:\vod2\media

    {2 update the: rootinstall/applications/vod/Application.xml: added < StreamManager > <VirtualDirectory >< streams > /vod2;${VOD_COMMON_DIR_2} < / stream >

3 modified CTS and HDS content storage in httpd.conf (copied and pasted under original settings): place names are correct/hls-vod2 and/hds-vod2,?

    < vod2/hls-vod2of location >

    True HLSHttpStreamingEnabled

    HLSMediaFileDuration 8000

    HttpStreamingContentPath "G:\vod2\media".

    HttpStreamingContentPath "G:\vod2\media".

    True HttpStreamingJITConfAllowed

    JitFmsDirPath "..".

    Options - Indexes FollowSymLinks

    .....

    < / location >

If all of the above are correct, what is the correct url to call the hds streams stored on this external hard drive via rtmp? The original instructions were not always clear about this. I have a file called 1.Test.mov in this folder. I tried:

    RTMP://localhost/HDS-vod2/MP4:1.test.mov

    RTMP://localhost/HDS-vod2/1.test.mov

    RTMP://localhost/HDS-vod2/1.test.mov.F4M

    etc.

    http://localhost/HLS-vod2/1.test.mov.m3u8 work of HLS

    http://localhost/HDS-vod2/1.test.mov.F4M Also works.

I need the rtmp url so that I can make a .smil for rtmp file rescue, such as:

    SMIL >

    < head >

    < base meta = "rtmp://localhost/hls-vod2/" / >

    < / head >

    < body >

    <>switch

    < src = "video mp4:1.Test_1500kbps.mov" system-bitrate = "1500000" width = "1920" height = "1080" / > "

    < src = "video mp4:1.Test_1200kbps.mov" system-bitrate = "1500000" width = "1920" height = "1080" / > "

    < src = "video mp4:1.Test_800kbps.mov" system-bitrate = "1500000" width = "1920" height = "1080" / > "

    Thank you

All Adobe documentation indicates that the files specified in the vod_common_dir can be listened to both http and rtmp, but there is no specific mention of what the URL correct rtmp for files stored on an extra hard drive. Here's what I did to work around this problem: FMS 3.5 cannot connect to the media on another drive

    1. HLS streaming:

    a. change: rootinstall/conf/fms.ini: adding a new parameter for HTTP and RTMP streaming: VOD_COMMON_DIR_2 = G:\vod2\media

       b. update the: rootinstall/applications/vod/Application.xml: added /vod2; ${VOD_COMMON_DIR_2}

    2. RTMP streaming: Add the path of the external storage in the virtual directory of the file Application.xml without specifying or application name.

    a. /; G:\vod2\media

       b. the Protocol rtmp for this follows the convention of starndard URL: URL syntax: [protocol]://[servername]/[application]/[codecID:][streamname][.extension]

    c. in my case, it would be: rtmp://localhost/vod/mp4:1.Test.mov

It would be nice if it worked in accordance with the documentation from Adobe, and I hope someone can chime in with the correct answer to the original question. If this isn't the case, it becomes rtmp and http streaming to work from the same external location (what vod_common_dir is supposed to be able to do).

    Thank you
