"permalinks" to files on NTFS disk network

Hey, there,

My office uses a shared network (NTFS) drive, and we are running Windows 7 on our individual machines.  I want to do is be able to create hyperlinks between documents on the shared disk that will continue to run when the target file is moved.

The summary table in this Wikipedia article gives to think that "the hard link is still valid" even "what target is moved," which makes it sound like what I'm looking for.  But when I search help Windows 7 from my office to see how to put in place, no useful result.  WP for "Hard links" article makes it sound completely unrelated to what I'm trying to do: connecting permanently to move the target files and also leaves wondering how to proceed.

I would try to understand what means using the mklink /H command, but I'm not sure what I'd do exactly, and I need the password admin rights to install the same software on our system (here, IT very careful people and seems not very motivated to answer this question).

Little help?  Thank you!

-Justin

Cannot access files on external hard drive on windows xp, after that I worked with him on Victory 7.I can see the file, but he says "is not accessible. access is denied. " Can someone help me?

As you can guess, this is a permissions problem.  Here, it makes a difference if you have XP Home or Pro you have to safe boot mode to change permissions in the House.

My crystal ball says that your external drive is formatted with the NTFS file system.  When you connected to Windows 7 (or any other computer besides), the files have been added that this user permissions apparently understood that only Win 7 has access to.  There are several ways to handle this...

Is to save on all your files and reformat the external hard drive with a FAT32 file system and then support files.  You will have no problems of permissions with FAT32, but you can't have any higher than 4 GB single file either.

Another way is as an administrator, to 'Ownership' of all the files on the disk
"How appropriate a file or a folder in Windows XP"
but this could get old if the drive moves back.

Yet another approach is to give "Everyone" full access to everything on the drive.  This may or may not protect against new folders or files added, but may be worth a try:
As a user administrator, open a command window:
    Start-> Run-> "cmd".
    Then, enter the command:
    CACLS E:\/t/e/c/g everyone: F
(where I am assuming that your external drive is mounted as "E:" - change of real player)

I hope that something more top is useful...

  • Cannot open the files from the shared network drive

Hi, I am trying to open a file located on a server of storage attached to the network in a shared drive. When I try to open the file in Photoshop CC 2014 directly or by double-clicking in the file Explorer, I get a pop-up box in Photoshop that says that the image of CR2 is not the right kind of document. If I copy the file to another USB drive attached, the file opens correctly in Camera Raw.

This will give you tangentially more insight in the work through a network to NOT be supported by Adobe:

This is the standard text often used for saving to a network (NOTE the part where he explains that normally, it works, but it is impossible to solve someone else on the network remotely, and that's why he didn't is not supported by Adobe):

If you open files on a network, or saved on a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the case where you currently have problems with one or more files. On a network is not supported.

    See:

    http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/406/kb406793.html

Copy the local file CLOSED your server hard disk, work on it, again to save it on your local hard drive, close it and copy the closed file on the server.

Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support work on a network does not necessarily mean that it doesn't work.  It should be.

Adobe position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to ensure that everything will work properly in all systems, particularly in view of the fact that that something will not work properly, it is probably the fault of the network, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting of your network.

If you are unable to work locally, you are yourself, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you work from a server, make sure that your network administrator is a competent professional.

When problems arise, much valuable work can be lost.

  • VMFS block sizes - that affect files in the disks?

    Hi all

I know that if we choose a larger block size, we can have a greater total disk (up to 2 TB I think). I also know that if I choose a larger block size, say 8 mb, so that even small files on my vmfs will lead up to 8 MB of disk space. My question is what about small files in vm disks as a windows ntfs running vm. Files on this comments will take the size of large blocks of 8 MB regarless of their size?

8 mb, so let's say even small files on my vmfs will lead up to 8 MB of disk space

No, it is a layer of void which takes into account more small files, LESS of pre determined threshold (I don't remember exactly what it is) are not part of this minimum block size.  For small files are 1/64 of the block size.  With the size of block 8 Meg they are 1/256 of the size of the block size.

So I had the same problem to investigate files newspapers and others, and the VMFS takes into account so you don't waste space.

  • Problem writing external file on the disk mounted outdoors in Windows

    People,

I have a strange problem with a simple OWB mapping where I am dumping the contents of a table to an external file.
The versions are OWB v 11.2.0.2 64 - bit on Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2 2007 Windows 64 - bit Enterprise Server.

When the external files module is connected to a place that point to a local drive and directory on the OWB server, everything works fine - files are created and written.
When the external files module is connected to a location that points to a disk mounted on another Enterprise 2007 64-bit Windows Server, I get + "path not valid for the target file, check if the connector is deployed correctly. +

The "File System Path location" in OWB is set to "N" (no slash anyway). ' ' Test connection ' reports OK.

I gave the os user Oracle and "Everyone" (for good measure) all rights on the mounted disk, and I see that the package generated code uses the correct directory, and the directory path is correct on the server. The drive mounted (N :) should appear as a local disk to Oracle I see. I am able to create and delete files on the disk using a command line on the OWB/DB server.

I'm scratching my head on this one...

    Hello Haakon,
try to specify the directory in OWB with UNC path (instead with a letter, as \\other-server\shared-resource of the drive).
MS Windows sessions for executed OWB mapping and where you map resource network to the drive letter is different - maybe it's a reson why you can't access the mapping file.

You close your session to the Oracle database server after network sharing the drive letter mapping?

    Kind regards
    Oleg

  • Mounting of NTFS disk problem

I just upgraded the OS to El Capitan v 10.11.5. My (5 TB) ntfs disk won't mount. Tried through the application disk utility and also diskutil command in the Terminal. Everyone knows the same?

Not good. An NTFS drive must go up and be readable on your Mac, but not accessible in writing without a driver. First of all, do you have it plugged into a Windows computer to make sure that it still works correctly? Second, have you tried it on another Mac? Thirdly, I assume that it is a USB key, are you sure that the USB port you use on the Mac is good? (Try to do an SMC reset - reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support )

I look forward to hear from you.

    Thank you

    Hi, Dr.,

Volumes that contain file system errors are known as Sales. To indicate that a file system problem has occurred and that the volume is dirty, Windows XP Professional displays a message similar to the following when you try to open, delete, or rename a file or folder by using Microsoft Windows Explorer or the command prompt:

Autochk runs if the volume is marked as modified.

If the file system has marked the volume as dirty, Autochk runs the Startup Repair process. Volumes are marked as dirty, when the file system detects an error on the volume. If Autochk detects a dirty volume, it provides a delay of 10 seconds, and then starts the repair process. If you cancel Autochk when a volume is dirty, Autochk tries to run again after a 10 second delay every time the computer is restarted.

original title: third party INF problems

    Hi Paul,.

    ·         Why are you using a USB port to create a network connection instead of using an Ethernet connection?

  • Home network with 2 PC with Windows 7 and 1 PC Windows XP. When sharing files via the MSHome network I have permission errors. How can I solve this?

original title: cannot open or copy some files within the home network

I have a home network that are connected by a router.

A (main) pc is connected via a cable to a router on Windows XP pro sp3.
2 other laptops running Windows 7 connected via Wifi.

All of them configured to work with the workgroup MSHOME.
On the pc main (with XP), I have a folder shared with full access, including change files. The folder contains videos that are uploaded directly to it.

Sometimes 2 other laptops can not access some files, they see them but can't open them or copy them, I get this error:
    http://S3.PostImage.org/623foisor/image.PNG

    If I do the following:
On my main pc I move the movie file in this folder to another folder and then bad bring it back.
The file can be accessed and copied!

    What's wrong?!

I'm glad that you guessed it work.

Permissions show that "Everyone" has full access inherited, so that the list must have been made after that you have added everyone.  "Everyone" in this list without a guest user (or any user if you have active Simple file sharing) would not have permissions on this folder.
