Phantom answering ARP

In my host-only/vmnet1 network, there is something with a VMware MAC address falsely in reply to ARP requests, and I have no idea what it is. I changed the subnet vmnet1 to 10.10.10./0/24, and if I have only one virtual machine at the same time, a VM Windows Server, which has a NETWORK card in vmnet1 and ping 10.10.10.254, something the ARP responses. Vmnet1 my Mac address is 10.10.10.1, and IP address of the Windows Server NIC 10.10.10.20. Ideally, I want another virtual machine to use 10.10.10.254, but it does not work because this ghost guard answering ARP before my own virtual machine. With only the Windows Server VM under tension, or any other unique virtual machine fed up for that matter, something meets 10.10.10.254. This corresponds to the above available in Beach vmnet1/dhcpd.conf DHCP IP, but when I try to reduce the DHCP IP address range to finish at 149, it went down, or networks deamons do not start (although I have demolished the lines of HASH DHCP networking file).

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated!

See you soon,.

Hello

I know you're on the merger, but it's the same thing in my computer and there, I knew where to find the details in the documentation:

VMware Workstation 12 Pro Documentation Center

In short, it's the DHCP server that is already assigned to the adresse.254.

Maybe it's because proxy ARP on the pix. You can try disabling this interface with the command "sysopt noproxyarp.

  • dynamic inspection of arp and arp traffic

    Hello world

Dynamic inspection arp only offers protection against fake gratuitous arp response by checking the free response against the dhcp binding or she also provides protection against all false arp traffic by checking all traffic against the dhcp binding arp?

    For example.

    H1 - f1/1SW - Dhcp Server

    H2 - f1/2

H1 mac address is mac1 and assigned by dhcp 199.199.199.1 ip address

H2 mac address is mac 2 and dhcp IP 199.199.199.2

    SW has following dhcp bindings

    Mac 1 199.199.199.1 f1/1 vlan 1

    mac2 199.199.199.2 vlan1 f1/2

Let's say that a hacker connects to his office at sw to f1/3.  H1 needs to communicate with h2 but h1 arp table has no entry for 199.199.199.2 (de).

As a result, H1 must send the request of broadcast arp to 199.199.199.2. The question is: If a wrong answer with its own mac address arp IE hacker craft

MAC3 199.199.199.2 (where mac3 is the mac address of office hacker), dynamic arp inspection to check this answer arp against the dhcp bindings?

    Thank you.

  • Regarding UDP Rx. custom map FPGA for PC

    Dear Sir.

We are not able to receive the data in LabVIEW which is captured in WireShark. We pass the FPGA card data to PC. Here we use the UDP protocol.

We follow the procedure below to send and receive data :

    1. Side map FPGA:

      1. We get the PC ARP request.
      2. Then, we give the answer ARP for PC.
      3. Then, we receive a PC UDP packet.
      4. After that, we send a UDP packet to PC.

We monitor all frames with WireShark Analyzer.

Let me know the solution and fill in the gap.

    Thank you best regards &,.

    Chick S

The only thing I see is I think you mixed up of your ports. Looking at your OCAP paper, it seems that the FPGA (10.1.8.121) sends to the destination port 1234, but your VI of receiver UDP listening on port 1200. However, if you change the receiver port on the VI of UDP Rx, you get an error: I don't know if you will be allowed to open the same port twice (once in the TX, once in the RX). If this is the case, you must move the two functions in the same VI so that they use the same refnum UDP.

  • KB2641690 made unusable computer on the network

A recent reinstall of XP - SP3 on a Dell computer worked without problem for the last three months, up to what I have installed KB2641690. Now the machine has disappeared from the local network; cannot access other shared computers or authorize others to use the laser printer. However, it can still use the Internet. Run a network trace indicates he will not answer ARP requests which would explain the result but not the cause. He has also slowed significantly.

If you uninstall the update - which suits him?
(If not - then that may not be your problem).

Logged on as an administrative user, try the following commands from a command prompt (one at a time, pressing ENTER after each one).

    netsh winsock reset catalog
    ipconfig / renew
    ipconfig/flushdns
    ipconfig/registerdns

Restart after the last of them.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.

-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).

  • Issue of ASA NAT and routing

    Hello

I have a question about NAT and routing on the SAA. I'm relatively new to ASA and don't know if it works or not. I have a pool of public IP (209.x.x.x/28) that routes my ISP to the external interface of my ASA. IP was assigned address for the outside of the ASA is an address of 206.x.x.2/24 with a default GW of 206.x.x.1. I intend using NAT to allow my web/mail servers on the DMZ (192.168.x.x) use 209.x.x.x addresses. However, I do know how to make it work since I'm not arping on any interface for 209.x.x.x addresses as they will be sent to the 206.x.x.2 address by the ISP. Can I just set up a translation NAT (on the external interface?) of the 209.x.x.x on 192.168.x.x address and the ASA will figure it out?

    Thanks for the help.

    Todd

The ASa will figure it out, he will answer ARP queries for all that he has set up in a "static" command As long as th PSIA routes 209.x.x.x directly to the ASA addresses then it should all work fine.

You just need to add lines like the following:

    static (dmz, external) 209.x.x.x netmask 255.255.255.255 192.168.x.x

for each of your internal servers in the DMZ. Then an access-list to allow only HTTP/SMTP/etc through these addresses 209.x.x.x.

list of allowed inbound tcp access any host 209.x.x.x eq smtp

list of allowed inbound tcp access any host 209.y.y.y eq http

    Access-group interface incoming outside

  • PXE error, pxe - e32 TFTP Open Timeout through vmnet

    Hi all

I'm completely stuck because my installation has worked in recent weeks and has just stopped working today.

I'm under VMware Fusion 6.02 on Max OS x I have two guest computers, the first is a Ubuntu 10.04 installation that is running a server dhcp and tftp to PXE Boot kernel images. The second is just a generic Ubuntu 64-bit virtual machine that PXE starts the image provided by the Ubuntu 10.04 VM.

I've implemented a vmnet customized for two virtual machines by using the following commands:

    sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cfgcli vnetcfgadd VNET_6_DHCP no
    sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cfgcli vnetcfgadd VNET_6_HOSTONLY_SUBNET 192.168.0.0
    sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cfgcli vnetcfgadd VNET_6_HOSTONLY_NETMASK 255.255.255.0
    sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cfgcli vnetcfgadd VNET_6_VIRTUAL_ADAPTER yes

With the help of vmnet-sniffer on my mac and wireshark in my Ubuntu 10.04 VM I see that packages make it started failing pxe vm for the virtual machine Ubuntu 10.04. The pxe boot vm correctly receives a DHCP address and does not work with PXE - E32 TFTP tftp open timeout.

The only major changes to the system have been an installation of the vmware tools on the vm Ubuntu 10.04 last week.

I know that the server configurations are correct on the Ubuntu 10.04 VM. As I put the network card for the stroke of lightning Ethernet, which is able to get the addresses DHCP and PXE image to a physical machine connected to the mac via a switch. PXE boot fails only when you go through the vmnet custom on the other virtual machine.

For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

If you create a virtual card on that network, it'll be to default 192.168.0.1.  It seems that your DHCP/tftp server is also to 192.168.0.1.

Move your DHCP/tftp server 192.168.0.2 and it should work.

(Note: 00:50:56:c0:00:06 is the address MAC attributed to vmnet6 virtual card host... so the ICMP Port Unreachable message comes from the host, no server DHCP/tftp VM.)

+ IP1: 172.16.16.7 (subnet for host IP storage)

+ IP2: 172.16.17.7 (subnet for storage over IP comments)

vSwitch associated vmnic2 on NIC IP storage

+ Port "IP storage" group containing virtual NIC both ESXi hosts

+ VMkernel Port for iSCSI host connections: 172.16.16.28

Here's what I have to config network comments:

+ The highest virtual NIC group of ports "IP storage".

+ vSwitch with only a VMkernel port for iSCSI of the guest connections: 172.16.17.38

From the iSCSI host, I am able to ping 172.16.16.28.  However, I am unable to ping 172.16.17.38, and here's the really confusing part - I am able to get an answer ARP of that associated with the VMkernel port with the correct MAC network CARD!  This eliminates all kinds of potential configuration issues (for example means bad NIC, bad IP, etc..)

The firewall on the host indicates the software iSCSI port outgoing 3260 Client is open.  Capture of the target iSCSI host package reveals no. TRAFFIC from VMkernel IP guest when updating to storage adapters.

What should I look at?  The configuration of the host against the host looks identical yet we work and there is no...

In the debugging process so, I turned on the "Promiscuous" mode on the vSwitch associated vmnic2 on the NETWORK card on the host IP storage ESXi and poof!  Everything magically started working.  The iSCSI traffic be unicast, so I don't see why promiscuous mode would be necessary, but I can't argue with the results observed.  Clearly, I have more to learn more about nested ESX, that's why I'm playing with it.  :-)

  • Why do I need "Promiscuous" Mode when you use multiple vSwitches and a bridge?

    Hello guys,.

    5.5 ESXi running.

I created two vSwitches and putting multiple virtual machines in each vSwitch. I have a CentOS VM with two network cards, one in each vSwitch. I configured the CentOS VM to work as a bridge. I could spend between devices on a vSwitch pings, but ping has no devices on a vSwitch devices on the other (through the CentOS acting as a bridge). The ARP requests have been sent across the bridge, but have never had sent answers ARP. I checked around online and someone recommended to enable Promiscuous Mode. I activated the Promiscuous Mode (changing to refuse to accept) on the two vSwitches (which is then applied to the change to all virtual machines). You can read more about that here: VMware KB: how "Promiscuous" mode operates on the virtual level switch and portgroup

Now all of a sudden, everything works.

    My question is: why?

I think that I don't want to Promiscuous Mode unless it must be such that it will result in more traffic to each VM it had reached before. I don't really understand why I need to authorize this change, and any help would be nice!

Without promiscuous mode, vSwitch and port group will only transmit traffic VMs (MAC addresses) that are directly related to the port groups, he will not learn the MAC addresses that, in your case, are the other side of the bridge. The "Promiscuous" mode, all traffic is sent to each virtual machine on the vSwitch and port group and it's virtual machine to decide what to do with the network packets. As you have already mentioned, this isn't a parameter that you want to apply to a large number of virtual machines. For this reason, you can create a second group of ports on the vSwitch with only of CentOS virtual machine and activate the "Promiscuous" mode on only this group port rather than the vSwitch.

  • Microsoft NLB question

    Hello

Had a first go at NLB configuration. I have it configured in the same manner as my colleague did

    physical boxes.

I have it configured as multicast and everything looks ok in the NETWORK Load Balancing Manager. Unlike with physical servers.

I can only connect to the cluster that is part of the same subnet. I can't ping from another subnet.

What gives? According to VMware should not require changes to the host.

I tried placing virtual machines on a host and different hosts. The results remain the same.

works only part of the same subnet.

    see you soon

The key here is that the multicast MAC address is not captured by the routers in question.  That's why you can only ping locally in the same VLAN.  To resolve this problem, you need to create a static ARP entry on your 8.

Page 2 of NETWORK load balancing guide:

Some routers do not support the resolution of IP addresses unicast to multicast MAC addresses and they don't answer ARP. Thus, an administrator must add a static ARP entry in the router, mapping of the IP address of the cluster in its MAC address.

  • 'Phantom', 'Ghost' button on the touch screen "FT200HQL bmjj".

    Hello

A few days ago, I just bought new 19.5 ""FT200HQL bmjj" and after the first hour of use, he began to experience what can best be described as random" phantom/phantom"key." Touch screen registers the keys at random but while no. we're actually there touch. The only temporary solution I've found so far is to disconnect and reconnect power. But shortly after that the problem reappears.

I intend to buy more than 4 monitors, but if they all come with this "characteristic" builtin, so I'll have to return that I've already bought and to look elsewhere. I did some research on the Internet and it seems that it is a well known problem, has seen many buyers. I hope that strongly, I am sorry that I do not watch buyer's comments earlier.

I have already searched through the knowledge base and community and not found the answer. I even contacted one of the Acer official services in my country, and they have not told me anything useful, just that they will replace the monitor indefinitely even if the problem persists. But the truth is that I need a screen of work not weeks, or even months of tedious repairs and replacements, while I remains monitorless. Yes, are there any solid fix known for this problem?

The computer is a standard desktop Lenovo running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. All the drivers and OS updates are up-to-date. The drivers for the Acer monitor only for this model are for Windows 8, so I'm counting on those provided by Microsoft.

    Thank you in advance.

Well, I finally got my money back not so well spent!

    Hello in the DELL community.

I hava a little question, and hoping to find some answers here ;) I'm writing a small script, and in this script, I need to get the mac address is to link to Ip address of the ARP command. I am using telnet to connect to DELL. But the show arp command displays a lot of information, a huge list of ip. I tried to analyze, with the '' option and press etc., but it's a very slow procedure.

    Two main issues:

He might have an OID you can pole for this info. all the OIDS are in the MIB that are included in the download for the firmware.

If you do not find one in the MIB, you might try a SNMP walk on the switch to see if you can identify an OID that will provide you with this info.

  • How to create a static ARP using SNMP?

    Hello

I want to create a static ARP using SNMP.

I can delete an ARP by setting oid ' 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.4' to '2'.

    But none of

    '1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.1 '.

    '1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2 '.

    '1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.3 '.

    '1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.4 '.

    can be modified or created

    SNMP-server community is RW

I can change the other oid, for example 'type sysName' oid 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0

I used this command to create a new ARP:

    set SNMP v2 192.168.10.1 private oid 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.1 integer 1

    the answer:

SNMP response: reqid 16, errstat 11, erridx 1

    ipNetToMediaEntry.1 = 1

    errstat 11 is NOCREATION

And I used the tool "Mib Browser" to set a static ARP.

    the answer is NOCREATION too.

I searched a lot of time, a lot of people have this problem,

someone said the oid ipNetToPhysicalPhysAddress or inetCidrRouteTable is alternative,

but our switch do not have these oids.

    I can't find a solution.

I want to know if the task can be performed.

    Help, please.

Thank you to reach small business support community.

I'm not positive, that this can be done on small business goes, however, what is your version of the model and the firmware of the switch so I can continue the investigation.

I'll be looking forward to your reply.
