  I have a XPS 12 that was stuck on "automatic Preapring repair." I had put to sleep it and bought another, I recently met the old an and had a quick Google to see if something had changed! Of course, I came across this:

  

  I opened the XPS 12, reinstall the daughter (removed all connections and reconnected) card, turn on the laptop with a fresh install of Win 8.1 and it installed and everything seems good! He runs a Windows Update as I type!

• Photos of El Capitan crashes during the preparation of library

  I'm on an iMac 27 "(fin 2012) and improved 10.8 to El Capitan."  I have a library huge iphoto (211 GB).  The upgrade went well except for the pictures.  When I try to import my iPhoto library it crashes 50%.  I searched this problem and tried all of the suggestions that I could find without help.  I've updated the iPhoto (9.6.1) application and my library seems fine here.  I ran repair permissions, rebuild the thumbnails, database repair and rebuild the database on my iPhoto library and it always stops at 50% when you try to load in pictures.  I don't know what else to try!  Any other suggestions out there?  Thank you!  Sheri.

  If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer.   Please ensure that you have a backup of your current library. Launch Photos while keeping the Option + command keys. Select this option to repair your library database.
