• The operation of the Photoshop color management

  Hey guys!

  I spent some time, research and try to understand the inner workings of the Photoshop color management and met much information unclear and contradictory, especially in what concerns the test format. I think I thought that some of them out, but (for ease of my sleep) I thought to ask direct questions, just to be sure. I guess it's more of a curiosity thing.

  I'm on a Mac OS X 10.8, Photoshop CS6, monitor calibrated from the standard range, working in sRGB for the web.

  (1) what I have gathered, to get a specific color as possible on my screen, all I have to do is the workspace sRGB or have images with embeded sRGB tag and including my calibrated monitor profile ICC loaded in OS X. In this way, all the images and colors in Photoshop will respect sRGB and my calibration profile will ensure that my monitor is in fact the correct sRGB color display (for as long as it's still capability). Fix?

  (2) I have met many 'practical advice' where people mention using the format of test > Monitor RGB as a way to monitor the colors for the web and then I saw people saying that's not true. As I understand it, the function of monitor RGB strips the tag embeded and does not take into account the workspace of the image, instead showing you the RGB values in the 'native' of the screen color space, which in my case would be sRGB-ish. Photoshop color management, but not the profile of calibration of displayaround a bit. Fix?

  (3) when the viewing a tag image sRGB, activating / disabling the test format: RGB Monitor on and outside has absolutely no effect. Am I right to assume that this is because the sRGB tag is getting 'off', but since the monitor is standard gamut, the native color space is always sRGB?

  What I find weird is when I change the display profile in OS X to my only calibrated for, for example, a generic RGB, activating / disabling the test format: Monitor RGB effect - changes in brightness of picture visibly. If my above hypothesis was correct, it shouldn't happen, right? Where my confusion.

  Many people overcomplicate it. It's actually very simple.

  1 Photoshop converts on the fly from the document on the monitor profile profile. As long as the monitor profile is an accurate description of the screen, it shows correctly regardless of the original document profile. That's the whole point of the color management, translation of one color space to another aspect/goal of maintaining.

  There is no particular reason to work in sRGB just because your monitor is (or close). However, you will not see directly the colors in the file that are outside of the monitor range.

  2. waterproofing to Monitor RGB is a quick test to see how the image appears without any color at all management. I guess it could be useful in some cases, when you need consistency to accuracy. Other than that, it is completely useless, that it shows what it looks like on your system. And anyway, there is no reason today not to use fully color managed browsers.

  3. Waterproofing is an extra turn to the conversion mentioned above. The point is to limit the range to test the profile, so that you can see this cutting will do to the image. It will documents profile > profile proof > monitor profile. If the profile of evidence has a range equal to or greater than the monitor profile, you will see no difference.

  Important point to keep in mind: If the profile source and destination are the same, no conversion happens and color management is by definition disabled or disabled.

  The first part of the string of audit, document evidence, may be a "convert" or "assignment". Convert maintains appearance, while assign run numbers, but changes its appearance. It's the checkbox 'Keep the numbers' in the proof Setup dialog box.

• Photoshop - Second monitor color management

  When I use Photoshop on my laptop (windows) on the image of the screen of the laptop and its colors are just about perfect.

  

  However, when I drag the window to my second monitor Photoshop knows how to manage color at all and so my white and grey look completely yellow!

  

  
  It's very start especially when you try to design images for printing and so I was wondering if there is a way to disable the Photoshop color management and have it use the OS and default colors of monitor management games or I should say people change in preferences, I tampered with and changed all the settings and it seems to be able to adjust the color saturation and brightness but nothing gets rid of this yellowish harmonic and makes my whites white!

  You use Windows 7 or higher? You must run the utility of color grading on each monitor that you want to use.

• I'm trying to print using my own profile and no color management.   I have found a lead to the Adobe Color Print Utility but reached a point where he declared that she would not work with future versions of the Mac operating system.   I have Mac OS 10,11,

  I have been printing PSD images with my own profiles and color management using an Epson R2880.

  I've now changed to a Mac with OO 10.11.3 and unable to replace the color management.   I found a lead on the Adobe Color printer utility but failed and got a message saying that the utility has only worked with an earlier version of the OS 10.   Is there a way to turn this problem?

  You don't want or need to use the old setting 'No Color Management'. Is no longer the right way to print with a custom printer profile, in the current versions of Photoshop and OS X.

  To use a custom profile to print, use the attached picture settings:

  • In the print dialog box, set the Photoshop color management menu manages colors.
  • Select your profile to the printer in the printer profile menu.
  • In the settings of printer driver Epson (under Printer Setup button) make sure that the Epson printer driver is set to the color - off management.

  

  I don't know why Adobe Color Printer Utility works in 10.11.3, because I can throw on OS X 10.10 and 10.11. But in the end, it doesn't matter, because you don't want to use it for this purpose Adobe Color Printer Utility is only to print a profiling target, no images. And it won't let you print using your custom printer profile, because the whole point of the utility is to print with no discoloration whatsoever.

• Color management policies

  If color management policies are disabled in the control panel of the Photoshop color settings dialogue that happens when a file is pasted into a document that has a different workspace? Is the pasted file is converted in the workspace or are the numbers assigned to the workspace?

  EG: Working space is Adobe RGB 1998, the file being stuck in this document contains an Adobe sRGB space. The color numbers in the pasted document will convert to Adobe RGB 1998 or they will be affected?

  Citing the Description area of the Photoshop color management settings to the 'Off' RGB policy:

  "When you import the colors in a document, the numerical values of the colors are priorities on the appearance of the color."

  An assignment will take place.  Using your example, I checked by pasting a picture of sRGB rainbow gradient in Adobe RGB document with RGB strategy set to Off.  The rainbow gradient has changed to look the same, we would see if they had taken the original document of sRGB and reassigned it the Adobe RGB profile.

  I hope with a bit more information, as much as I can get this figured out. The fundamental problem is that Bridge displays images significantly differently than ACR or Photoshop. The most common problem is the following:

  With the external monitor as main display (and the laptop as a secondary monitor), I launch Bridge. Photos will be appear to be in the correct range for a while, but it desaturates them almost immediately as if switching lines. Open the image in ACR or Photoshop displays the correct color. See the below:

  

  (Note: on my screen wide gamut, there is no clipping on the ACR version - this is how it should look)

  There are various permuations to this problem, according to which monitor I on when I launch Bridge, but the above is my general workflow.

  Lenovo ThinkPad T430s w / integrated graphics Intel HD4000

  ASUS series ProArt PA246Q (wide range)

  Photoshop CS6 (with 16-bit ProPhotoRGB as the standard workspace)

  Datacolor Spyder4 calibrate two monitors

  For anyone who has followed this thread, just a heads up for future use. It is confirmed all previews in Bridge are actually in sRGB. It's a little surprising, but apparently true. More details on this subject.

• How to print with no. COLOR MANAGEMENT in Photoshop CS6

  I tried to print an i1Profiler target so I can read with my i1Pro and create a profile of the printer, but no matter what I do, there is no way to get photoshop to provide a profile when printing. I tried to select printer handles color and then put the printer driver in the MANAGEMENT of OFF COLOR (seemed to me this would disable both the printer color management and color management photosbop). Tried to print this way (and many other ways) but NO SOLUTION - the impressions are VERY different from the on-screen display (which is in a correctly profiled Apple monitor) and they did resemble those with a selected profile.

  I also tried the Adobe Color Printer Utility Utility and same results!

  I use an EPSON Stylus Pro 7900 I just bought.

  The key here is to really actually go ahead and print the target of i1Profiler to your printer... in the graphical Test Panel, create the staff and click on print instead of Save as. As long as you have the size of the page defined in the layout, you should get a target Specifies printer to read. According to the patches how you have defined, this may take a few pages, but they will be correctly formatted for playback with the i1Pro...

• My photos in Photoshop and Lightroom are showing very red, but they actually print ok, I tried to change the settings of the color management in Photoshop but it makes no difference.

  It seems that this has happened since changing to 10 Windows, although I change my laptop and it of very well, has anyone at - it had the same problem?

  I also had in the elements, but it is topped by disabling color management.

  Could be a broken monitor profile. Switch display icc profile Adobe RGB or sRGB standard if you have a normal screen space, if you have a screen wide gamut. If this is useful, it is likely that a broken profile.

  In addition, the only way to make sure you see what looks like an impression (on your screen) is to use a unit of calibration as a Culor Munki or Spyder.

• Color management B8850 is driving me crazy!

  I use a mac 10.5.6 with the latest HP driver.

  When I try to print using a colorprofile I get very poor results! The color management system can not be disabled!

  First of all. Im trying to print using Photoshop CS3. In the PS print dialog, I select:

  -Color management in Photoshop

  -The color appropriate for my HP paper profile

  In the system settings, however, the option to deselect the color management (under paper/quality) is a party! I don't see this option when photoshop does not handle the colors!

  I post a picture, but I don't seem to be able to add one in this forum.

  Every help and FAQ always indicates that the color management wihtin should I disable the control panel of the printer. But I can't!

  If I use the settings colors are very bad! Please help, this is driving me crazy!

  Yes, I found a solution. You must let the re-kalibrate printer out the print heads, putting them back in and restart the printer. HP phone support was very helpful.

• Cannot access the options of color management for HP 6700 Mac OS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)

  I have the HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-all-in-one, and I can't find any way to access the color management options.

  The printer is attached (Wi - Fi) to my iMac Mac OS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion).

  I want to correct a magenta cast for the photos I printed.  I had the problem of magenta-cast in Lightroom and use Preview to print the photos, so now I want to work with color profiles in Photoshop Elements.

  Photoshop Elements is recommended I have 'disable color management in the printer Preferences dialog box.

  However, I am not able to find for the 6700 color management preferences in settings under Mountain Lion:

  Not sub (Apple) > System Preferences > print & Scan.

  Not sub (HP utility) > Open Embedded Web Server.

  Not sub (HP utility) > the printer settings.

  Non-print preview dialog.

  I can't find any clear directions in the online help (HP or elsewhere) that I've read so far.

  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

  Thanks for the reply and the screen shot.

  The first thing I want to do you is to reset the printing system.
  OS X Mavericks: reset the printing system

  Then add the printer, however when it by adding not just click on the name of printers, click Add printer or a scanner. Make sure that the 'use' is set to the printer and not Airprint.
  If it is displayed as Airprint, you will be missing feautres compared to the actualy printers driver.

  After that, I'll provide you know several documents that you may find useful to perform this task.

  I know some say 10.6, but they give you a reference and the idea, trying to do what you are.

• Double color management?

  Every time that I try to photographs of printing on the Canon 100 pro printer using an ICC profile color management and software I have prints with a magenta color cast. I believe that this is due to double color management?

  If I set the software to allow the printer manage the colors the colors are OK but I need to increase the brightness of pring and impressions on the standard settings are too dark to mush.

  How to print from Lightroom and Photoshop using an ICC profile for my paper and not have the problem of the color cast NVI prints.

  I ca't find anywhere to turn off color management in the printer set up.

  I use Lightroom CC, CC of Photoshop on an IMAC computer and printer Canon Pro 100. My computer screen has been calibrated using a Spyder 4 and screen brightness has been refused to a level that is recommended for the treatment of photopraph.

  If you add a network IJ printer you will get a window like this printer and simply work through drop-down menus to select your options.

  Then choose the type of paper and settings in Lightroom.

  

• Color management

  I posted a similar message with the title of the color Balance, but because my question is basically the color management - I repost with a new title and an additive - the problem I will quote below IS with the Photosmart B8550 PHOTO printer.  As I just posted, I tried my C6280 Photosmart printing and the colors are much closer to what they should be.

  The problem I have is there is too much red in the color balance in my impressions.  The colors in the pictures I see on the screen are NOT the same as the colors in the photos that print.  I tried every setting in the printer (perceptual, saturation, absolute colormatrix, colormatrix relative) rendering - all are bad.  I printed several different photos and the colors are disabled on all.

  I've seen posts on the color balance in the Officejet 8500 but the answers do not apply and the Photosmart B8550 PHOTO printer.  There is no funciton copy so I can't use this solution to increase yellow.  I'm using Photoshop CS4.  I put it in place so that Photoshop manages colors, but the output of the printer remains too red.  I checked my ink level and they are all very well (just over 60%.

  And, as I said earlier - the colors with the same photos printed on the PS C6280 are much more real they are printing the PS B8550.

  A question for you, never have you calibrated your screen? Both printers were offshore, but one was "closer" to be what you saw that you mention.

  When you print, make sure you select 'Application manage colors', both in printing from Photoshop, don't forget to select like color Manager.

  Hi bpj1242, actually you can simply disable the printer color management. What you need is an application that allows to manage the colors, such as Photoshop. In this application, you can then choose "Applacation manages colors." This will automatically disable the printer color management. In the print dialog box you will see under message options, the printer color management has been disabled.

  Hello guys!

  I am an excessive user of Photoshop / graphic designer and I just bought Dell U2413 to obtain, in combination with my graphics card Nvidia Quadro K2000, a true wide range/10-bit working environment of color which is very important for what I do. (Nec or Eizo was not an option because I've already spent so much money on other materials and I opted for Dell because I heard it is the best display in this price range - in my country, with taxes, it cost me 566 EUROS).

  Previously, I was working on iMac for almost a decade then separate pieces of hardware or Windows operating system was a new (and, I must admit, pretty scary) territory for me. However, after everything has been put in place, I tried to calibrate my monitor for the first time and then I was very unpleasantly surprised! Namely, I have X-Rite i1 Display colorimeter Pro and some optional software for it (ColorEyes display Pro and baslCColor display 5 was much better/appropriate for me because of their L * option for TRC so I never used it original i 1 Profiler is a software which is a LOT less than the previous two compering), but because Dell in it's manual said to use a calibration color UltraSharp Solution software is exclusively I decided to give it a go and try with it. But, to my (as I already said, very unpleasant!) surprise, I was EVEN less of i1 Profiler which, as I have said, was never an option for me.

  Not the end of the world, I thought, I'll re - calibrate it with ColorEyes Display Pro and everything goes well. But, after doing so, my unpleasant surprise become even more unpleasant, when I discovered that no matter what profile I chose in Windows Color Management and press "Set as default", nothing happens - my screen remains the same! The only way I can get a color change is if I create a profile using Windows built in utility. Profiles created in this way change the appearance of the screen, but all the profiles downloaded or created make no difference. And now I literally don't know what to do... The worst thing only of this, I can't blame WHO:

  1 Dell - that has a 'high end' view gives you ONLY a few factory presets + 2 custom profiles (Cal1 and Cal2) made by software calibration nowdays more inferior and useless;
  2. Windows 8 - who did a terrible color management which, in the same way, not a color at all management;
  3. me - who is unable to see put in place something that is more than simple & obvious?

  THANKS in ADVANCE for everyone is willing to help me solve this question and forgive me for a long (and perhaps confusing-) as you can say English is not my language kindergarten post!

  First of all if you use the eyes color pro with GBLED and i1DisplayPro and you're not invited to a sort of spectral correction for your type of backlight screen, you're hurting. No matter how visually pleasant it is, the profile is not accurate, playing WYSIWYB (what you see is what you believe) not WYSIWYG.
  Second, unless you have purchased/updated Basiccolor Display 5 after may 2013 (NEC GB LED suppor for PA242W, 5.1.2 version) with GBLED and i1DisplayPro, its measures are wrong, no matter how nice of calibration is.

  With your questions:
  You have 6 presets:
  -CAL1/CAL2, please read questions configuration on the Dell color calibration Solution in this instance. Please install the latest version 1.0.1.0 (67MB) and disable all color adjustments in yor GPU nvidia (bright colors, digital vibrance... all OFF). Most of us use in Windows 7 without problem (after a few configuration settings: spectal correction for GBLED files)

  -Factory-sRGB/AdobeRGB which are probably with a white point off the coast of the D65, recalibrate in GPU LUT with ArgyllCMS/DisplayCal. Works very well.
  -Standard with a usually arround WP 7000 K (native GBLED WP), if calibrated in GPU LUT with ArgyllCMS/DisplayCal ' nearest the locus of the daylight "of your native WP should give about your contrast of 1000: 1. It is perhaps unnecessary to your workflow, but it is better to know it.
  -Custom, native, fully customizable range WhitePoint, blackpopint and luminance of D50 D70 and beyond.
  Work with color management applications just you Custom, CAL1 and CAL2.

  You may have a problem with Windows (from Windows Vista from) color management. By default, Windows does not allow profiles (but applications can) rewriting GPU LUT of calibration. You need to configure.
  In W8, it's done:
  -From the right panel-> Search-> color management
  -Go to the tab advanced options
  -Click on "change default settings...". ', the button down with administrator privileges.
  -Go to the tab advanced options in this new window
  -Toogle check buton (bottom) "windows use on screen calibration" (sorry I don't have an English version of Windows and I don't know the exact text)
  -Reload button calibrations (bottom)
  -Close
  -Go to the "Devices" tab and select your screen in the upper drop-down list
  -check the box "use my record for this device".
  -Select your profile

  Your screen SHOULD be the same printer Dell preset OSD in which this profile was created, without other changes in contrast or brightness.
  If enabled, please disable the "AUTO" mode in the Dell Display Manager tray icon, use the manual mode with "enhanced video" (last tab) OFF.

  BTW and I know that this is not your case, but without workflow 10bits or gamma in 3DLUT (NECs & eizos) L * gamma calibration is not necessary.

  For those who have worn with 8-bit or DA better sRGB gamma CRT and let Photoshop or GIMP color management to make corrections for images ECIv2 (or with similar profiles of gamma)
