PIX 501 PPPOE outside

Hello

I have a pix 501.

It gets the IP address of the ISP using PPPOE.

If I have an e-mail inside server can I still have the email NAT for this device.

I did before NAT on mail servers where I have a breakdown of the intellectual property of PSI.

In this scenario, I have 1 IP (he doesn't) outside.

Can I allow other services too although I have 1 IP address

John

The config is OK, but it might be better to replace the fixed IP address in the access list and the staic by a dynamic.

1. you have configured:

outside_access_in list of access permit tcp any host XX. XX.XXX.XXX eq ftp

Access-group outside_access_in in interface outside

static (inside, outside) tcp XX. XX.XXX.XXX ftp ftpserver ftp netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

2 - I would like to replace this with:

outside_access_in tcp allowed access list any interface outside eq ftp

Access-group outside_access_in in interface outside

public static tcp (indoor, outdoor) interface ftp ftpserver ftp netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

The advantage of this configuration is that if the IP address changes NAT and access list won't automticly too.

3 - you need a CLEAR XLATE after have changed you the NAT settings.

clear xlate

Note that this will reset all connections.

4. - use a dyndns or no - ip client so that when you connect on the Internet you just have to know the DNS name, and if the IP address changes the client will update the DynDNS server.

See:http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php

5. - are you sure that your ISP Internet service provider allows ftp, smtp, and http? Many providers to block the ports for non-commercial DSL connections!

sincerely

Patrick

  • PIX 501 PPPoE w / static NAT loss of connectivity

I have a {should} installation very simple. PIX 501 with PPPoE on the external interface, 3 inside customers using PAT and 1 inside the client I am trying to use an address mapping static on permit communications with this host from the outside using a particular service. I did a lot of these before where there was an ADSL router in front of the PIX, but this is the first where I've used the PIX as the PPPoE client. When I use the static NAT for the single host it loses all connectivity beyond the PIX outside interface. When I get rid of the static mapping, through PAT very well. I spent many hours troubleshooting and control a lot of obvious things, but I am at a loss right now... unless it could be a problem with the IP address that has been assigned by the ISP for use with static NAT. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Sorry, in your case that static would look like this because of the dynamic IP.

    static (inside, outside) 23 interface 10.1.1.1 23 netmask 255.255.255.255

  • Ping inside the interface on a Pix 501 from outside the network

    All the

I have a Pix 501 firewall at a remote site with an IPSEC tunnel established at HQ. We have an analysis tool which remote sites for us let proactively pings know when a site crashes. I want to set up this ping the inside interface of the Pix tool as I can with 871 routers; However I can't configure the Pix to allow ICMP inside interface. I know by default that the Pix does not allow ICMP to the opposite interface and I was wondering if someone could help me with a configuration that will allow this? I enclose my configuration of the pix!

  • VPN PPTP and PPPOE CLIENT ON PIX 501

    Hello

Can I create a PPTP VPN and a client connection on a PIX 501 with a client to my ISP PPPOE connection. The PPPOE ip is dynamic and the VPN will be a static IP address. They gave me a username and password for VPN and PPPOE. Him also gave me an ip address for the VPN server.

This configuration example shows how to create an IPsec tunnel to a computer that is running the Client VPN Cisco's (4.x and later versions) to a Cisco VPN concentrator 3000 to allow the user to safely access the network inside the VPN concentrator.

  • Configure the PIX 501 for IDS

I have a PIX 501 with wired high-speed LAN headquarters inside and outside. Which would be a solid policy IDS to enable and what interfaces it must be applied to? There will be other measures necessary to enable IDS?

IDS on the PIX itself is very limited, it checks only 59 signatures listed here (http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/iaabu/pix/pix_62/cmdref/gl.htm#xtocid9 under the section of signatures supported IDS). The signatures themselves are pretty basic.

If you do not want to activate this, then for the signatures of attacks I would fix for drop/alarm/reset action, which is the default anyway.

You will also need to set the logging to a syslog server and monitoring for any 4000nn messages in syslog, cause it event IDS.

  • PAT on IPSEC VPN (Pix 501)

    Hello

I work to connect a PIX 501 VPN for a 3rd party hub 3015. The hub requires all traffic to come from a single source IP address. This IP address is assigned to me as z.z.z.z. I have successfully built the VPN and tested by mapping staticly internal IP with the IP address assigned, but cannot get the orders right to do with PAT in order to have more than one computer on the subnet 10.x.x.0. This Pix is also a backup for internet routing and NAT work currently as well for this.

I can redirect traffic to my subnet to the remote subnet via the VPN, but I can't seem to get the right stuff PAT to the VPN using the assigned IP address. If anyone can give me some advice that would be great.

    Dave,

    (1) get rid of static electricity. Use more Global/NAT. The static method will create a permanent

translation for your guests inside and they will always be this way natted. Use

NAT of politics, on the contrary, as shown here:

    Global (outside) 2 z.z.z.z netmask 255.255.255.255

(Inside) NAT 2-list of access 101

    (2) the statement, "nat (inside) access 0 2' list will prevent nat of your valuable traffic."

Delete this because you need to nat 2 nat/global card. (as a general rule, simply you

If you terminate VPN clients on your device and do not want inside the traffic which

is intended for the vpn clients to be natted on the external interface).

    (3) with the instructions of Global/nat 2, all traffic destined for the remote network will be first

translated into z.z.z.z. Then your card crypto using the ACL 103 will encrypt all traffic which

sources of z.z.z.z for y.y.y.0 24. This translation wil happen only when traffic is destined for the vpn.

I hope this helps. I have this work on many tunnels as you describe.

  • Unable to connect to PDM on PIX 501

just cannot understand this. I have a PIX 501 I used to connect very well. Now I can't get the PDM to come up inside, outside, nothing.  I use the same (old) of JAVA 1.4 version I always used. I can Telnet etc... Very well. The HTTP server is enabled and have granted access from my IP address. Any help would be greatly appreciated. See my config below.

  • On PIX 501 6.3 intermittent Internet access (5)

    Hello

I have a problem of access to the Internet from the local network behind a PIX 501. It worked for months, but suddenly, I discovered that Internet access is intermittent. Internet access works for about 10-15 minutes and then goes down. When I reboot the firewall or disable ARP Internet works again. I turn on debugging with 'debug arp' and I get an error message "arp-in: Dropping request outside the unsolicited nonadjacent ROUTEOUTSIDE 0002.cf69.50cf for 82.x.137.x 0000.0000.0000»

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards.

Hello, Couple of things to check.

You have ICMP permitted on the external interface of the PIX. If so, can ask you someone to ping from the internet to the external IP address.

When they ping, can you unplug the external interface and see if they receive a response in return.

If so, then there is a problem with the access provider. They could give your IP address to another person.

If this isn't the issue, then you open a TAC case and resolve this problem.

    See you soon,.

  • PIX 501 DNS resolution with static route

    I use a pix 501.

I have an internal DNS server behind the pix that uses my DNS of the ISP servers to resolve external domains.

Now, I want to host a web site on the same server.

To allow external access to the web server, I add the following:

outside_in_http list access permit tcp any host A.B.C.D eq www

    static (inside, outside) A.B.C.D L.M.N.O netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

    Access-group outside_in_http in interface outside

It is very good and allows web access. The problem is that the server is able to resolve DNS queries.

How can I allow my server to resolve DNS again securely. I guess it's pretty simple to do, but I'm having a lot of trouble to find the solution.

    Thanks in advance

    Dylan

On your IP set dns to 67.38.230.69, then ping www.yahoo.com server from guest... what resovle?

-Start ciscomoderator note - the following message has been changed to remove potentially sensitive information. Please refrain from publishing confidential information about the site to reduce the risk to the security of your network. -end of the note ciscomoderator-

Have a 501 PIX and Cisco 3640 router. The 3640 is configured for dynamic map for VPN. The PIX 501 is set to pointing to the 3640 router static map. I can establish a tunnel linking the PIX to the router and telnet to a machine AIX on the inside network to the router. When I try to print on the network of the PIX 501 inside it fails.

At the suggestion of a colleague, we bought a firewall PIX 501 to protect our new Win2003 web server and a UNIX/Oracle DB server.

I've never worked with before firewalls.

Our servers are located in a cage at the ISP and belong to us. There are only two servers providing web site. I have read the documentation in the Getting Started book and it does not answer my question.

We have 2 web sites with different IP numbers on our web server. Let's say 140.5.5.4 and 140.5.5.5. I understand that I have will redefine the numbers with the firewall (192,...) but I do not understand how the routers at the ISP will be able to route requests for two websites to the firewall when it has one IP number, say 140.5.5.1?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you, Jerry

    Jerry,

what you are referring is called port forwarding. Whether you a PIX with a public IP address 12.1.1.1 and your web servers are respectively and 12.1.1.2 12.1.1.3. Port forwarding is really a 2 step process:

    * a static translation of the public IP address of the PIX (12.1.1.1) at the address of the web server (12.1.1.2)...

    static (inside, outside) tcp 12.1.1.1 12.1.1.2 www www netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

    * an intermediate statement basically "all web requests should be allowed in the pix outside of the interface"...

driving permit tcp host 12.1.1.1 eq www everything

Here is a link that will help you to clarify this point:

    www.Cisco.com/warp/Customer/707/28.html

This should help you get started. Regarding the basic configuration, it takes config examples on the Cisco site, if you have access CCO.

Let me know if it helps.

  • DHCP & Pix 501

I currently use a Pix 501 in a SOHO environment with a DSL to non-static. I configured the IP address correctly - outside setroute dhcp ip address. The problem lies in my access lists and static routes. Is there a way to have the pix automatically update these when outside IP changes? Areas of distress are...

access-list 101 permit tcp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eq smtp

acl_out list access permit tcp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eq smtp

    static (inside, outside) tcp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, smtp smtp 10.10.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the external IP address. I feel, updated the pix per day will be necessary to take account the ISP change IP, but it would be great if it wasn't!

    Thanks in advance.

    -Brian

You can use the keyword "interface" in the access lists and static, which will automatically use whatever the IP address is on this interface. In your example, it would be:

access-list 101 permit tcp any interface outside eq smtp

acl_out tcp allowed access list any interface outside eq smtp

public static tcp (indoor, outdoor) interface smtp 10.10.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 smtp

Note You must run 6.3 (3) code to get this option, the new code is available here:

    http://www.Cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/PIX

Note also you need not specify the interface name in the static statement, which is the interface name in the materials gleaned.
