  My laptop has developed for the second time, what I can only describe as "stuttering and distorting" during playback of dvd and cd try to burn or rip a cd does not work either.

  The first time this has happened was a few months ago and PC World did a reinstall of windows that solved the problem. It is now again.

  Any help would be much appreciated.

• Reading CD/DVD and writing problems

  I tried the Microsoft fix for automatic in the event of a problem with my CD/DVD/R/RW.

  I tested drive with a cd of software that installs my external hard drive.

  Here are the results:

  This vista is a HP Pavilion Home premium and should have a SuperMulti 8 X DVD + R/RW/w/double layer support.

  I used hp recovery discs to recover this sysytem to the original operating system on 3/30 and my CD did not work since. How can I fix it. I tried chating with hp support and got 0 help. The drive is not available to download on hp either. I don't know how to solve this problem. I also used the 982116 KB, but this info was not applicable.

  I need to install the CD for maxtor to be able to use my external hard drive to retrieve my photos and documents. I would like to watch movies, do my movies at home and burn discs again. Please help me!

  This computer is always updated to the recovery and service packs are not yet installed.

• E1405 sound skips during playback of DVD and CD

  When I try to play the DVD or CD on my Inspiron E1405 (XP) the sound jumps really bad.  I went to Device Manager to make sure that the primary IDE channel and secondary IDE channel were both worth DMA.  They are set to DMA, except within the parameters of the secondary IDE channel, device 0, it is said that the transfer mode is DMA if available, but the current transfer mode is PIO Mode.  Could it be causing my sound problems?  I don't know what else to check.  I tried to update the drivers for the sound card, but that made no difference. Help!

  Regarding the noise of the DVD player, the sound could be a normal cheque when it turns on. However, I have re-tested this theory on a 15 in my possession Pavilion and wasn't able to recreate any noticeable noise. Yet once, keep an eye on it. It is may be normal, but then again you never know.

• Satellite 1800 - DVD stutters, video playback is delayed and the audio is garbled

  Hi all!

  I hope you can help me with this problem. When I try to play a DVD on my Toshiba S1800, playback stutters, video and audio wise, which of course is irritating. I was wondering if this could be a hardware malfunctions or perhsps due to a bad driver software?

  I have tried different DVD software players, and they all have the same show. I heard it could be because that the IDE controllers were not set to DMA mode, but they are on this device. Any of you have suggestions of what causes this problem?

  What DVD do you play? An original DVD movies or a serious media.
  Have you checked the drive with the audio CD? Is it possible to play audio CDs without worries?

  I m not 100% sure, but maybe what it s only a codec problem. If the different codecs are missing audio and video issues sometimes.

• Equium A100-549: DVD & CD playback is slow and jerky

  DVD and CD playback is jerky and slow (sound and image). This problem occurred out of the blue! One day was playing very well and the next, when we tried to play a DVD is a different problem. I put the other DVD that plays very well the night before, but without success - it wasn't the DVD in particular. I tried the audio CD I played before and to my disappointment the same problem. I ripped a CD on my laptop and it played very well - it is not the sound card. I used a lens cleaner, but it did not work.

  I run Toshiba Diagnostics, no problem. I even scanned the HD and defrag, nothing - so I doubt there is a problem with Windows. Problem with two media players, windows one and the Nero one - is not due to lack of players. I drop the phone or hit him or spilled something on it. And this problem really happened from one day to the other. I had all the windows and driver updates two weeks before the problem occurred, by paying in the meantime several DVDs and a few CDs with no problems. What should I do?

  Fortunately, the laptop is still under warranty, but I would prefer if there is a way to fix at home, because services of take time...

  I hope that your device to factory settings and not your own installation of the OS. You didn't write what CDs and DVDs you use, but I hope that use you the original one.

  Before you play DVD movie try at first to end all unnecessary process and stop the antivirus application if you have one. RedHawk is just, but I'm sure that DMA setting is standard by factory settings.

  My laptop has recently stopped playing all DVD and CD - RW - ordinary CD work fine, but when I try to play a DVD or a CD - RW it whirs for a while, then I get the message "Windows cannot read this disk. The disc may be damaged, or it could be in a form that is not compatible with Windows.

  I use a Satellite 1800-412, Windows XP (home edition) Service Pack 2, and the DVD drive is a SD-C2502.

  I watched the updates of the firmware of my drive to http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/index.asp?nav=HOM&page=HOM&frame=home as this is often recommended for problems of this kind on this forum - but not all are available.

  I read on some sites that doesn't update the firmware solves this problem.
  I recommend you to remove the drive from Device Manager.
  After restarting again the operating system should recognize the drive again. Perhaps this procedure will help you solve this problem.

  Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as it is often the set of operations which solves the problem.

  Try this double click Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - device - tab - click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive of the driver - UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
  
  Then work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, might have a cable loose or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

  Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables at both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and contacts data with a pencil eraser.

  Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

  Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (burn CD & DVD and CD and DVD read). Therefore, it is not unusual for 1 or 2 rooms with not so work that others do it properly.

  Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some entries in the registry that the troubleshooter does not solve, and those who "could" be the cause.

  Check with your system manufacturer Maker and device for possible firmware updates and the correct registry entries for your car.

  These are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - secondary-keys for the CD/DVD drive of course because there will be other subkeys in these keys. Be sure to ask specific keys involved as well as the parameters.

• Problems with media player and Streaming Online & Essentials

  I didn't know where to post this because it concerns problems reading media downloaded and all media and streaming online. In other words, any media. I have now found my problem with the problem and that's coming from MS Essentials and becomes very disruptive. Carefully One I've ever had this problem and it's probably because it was not a free service, however, since I installed essentials the problem has worsened. Also on one of my computers, the update will start just randomly and all but shuts down the system. Yet once, never happened with care. If this problem persists I will launch essentials to another more compatible antivirus protection system. Moreover, it happens with all other types of media also like Real Player and i Tunes so it is not exclusive to WMP.    All resolutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  Go to the support web site of the company that made the PC (there they are hard inside) or the company that makes the cd/dvd drive itself if its an external drive (USB?). They provide the drivers for their hardware.

  Check on your support site relevant to the brand and specific to the model of your PC (or an external drive) and any provision supported drivers or software for the readers, should be there.

  My Windows 7 64-bit is used to burn CDs and DVDs fine, but has developed a problem burning CD, DVD and Blu - ray using the software's built-in windows.  Both drives burn perfectly well using third-party software 3rd IMGburn, that leads me to conclude that this is a specific Windows problem.

  I have two drives, one is an Asus DRW-24B1ST CD/DVD burner and the other is a cd/dvd/blu-ray burner Lite-On iHBS112.  No reader is going to burn any type of disc as controlled, that is to say: "with a CD/DVD drive.  The only way a disc will burn, but if I select 'like a USB flash drive"I don't want to do.
