Player == Workstation?

After that I installed VMWare Player, asked me if I wanted to download the latest VMWare Workstation. I refused because I run player and I do not know what is the workstation. Then I started to create my first VM. Then I got to this dialog box:

New computer Virtual Assistant

[quote = "Ready to create virtual machines"] The virtual machine will be created with the following settings:

Name: Iris
Location: C:\Iris
Version: 9.0 Workstation
Operating system: 64-bit Ubuntu [/ quote]

I'm confused. Is the drive, my computer? Should I have updated after installing workstation?

Thanks for help - Mark.

(I apologize if this post is messed up. I tried my best. It doesn't seem to be a way to preview.)

In fact, Woody, there are two ways to interpret what you wrote:

I guess anyone can interpret what they want anyway but how we choose may not be reasonable and logical, case in point!...  I said that VMware Player is free for non-commercial use and that VMware Workstation is a paid for the product, which costs $249.00 USD.  That alone should tell you that they are two different products, let alone the fact that they are two totally different things!

2, player & Workstation are not the same thing, and the "update" is not really an update, but is rather a ploy to move me to the workstation for VMware can charge me, so I have to answer 'no '.

I do not see the message you saw, then he said 'Refresh' or 'upgrade', the latter would be more appropriate and there still would be reasonable and logical to assume a different product.  The bottom line is there has enough product to VMware website information so that we can determine easily that we are dealing with two distinct, and knowledge products whether or not you should or not should not move to VMware Workstation, well that's entirely up to you to decide.  Suggest you look at the product to VMware website and also if you want, as you said earlier, you can always take VMware Workstation for a 30 day free trial!

  • Cannot install VMWare Player, workstation or anything like that

All appear to be the same way with a message like:

    VMWare.png

However I've checked that the file exists and that I can access. What is the problem?

I had VMWare Player 6.0.5 and could not install/update VMWare tools. So, I suspended my operating system prompted and rebooted VMPlayer. He told me that there is a new VMWare Workstation something 10.x and I wanted to upgrade to it. Okay, of course. Downloaded the update and tried to install. Said to uninstall VMWare Player 6.0.5. Being suspicious, I went and downloaded VMWPlayer 6.0.5 where he screwed up the installation of Workstation 10.0. Of course, he did. So I tried to install Player 6.0.5 so I could return to my suspended VM. In my opinion, what he said that I could not install because I haven't restarted. So I rebooted. Now, I can't install Player 6.0.5 or Workstation 10.0.0 or whatever it is. They all fail on the same way saying the cannot find a .msi file I can find and access.

    Help!

BTW, you guys have far too much product and names making it confusing. What should I use? Player? Workstation? Spear? vCenter, Fusion. The list goes on and. Do not try to give me the list of "well it's for this reason and this other thing". The point is there are too many products and it is too complicated. If you want to tell me what the structure of the product is just limit it to the product I should use. I have a Windows 7 box and you want to run Ubuntu in a VM desktop - that's all...

    Thank you.

    Hello

Please note that this is a forum for peer support and therefore, it is mainly users of VMware help other VMware users who make up the bulk of this forum. It is VMware employees responding in time in time, but in your case here (Note: VMware employees are recognizable because they have a small 'vm' next to their name logo)

With regard to your current number. If you install VMware Workstation, then you have also installed VMware Player next.

Even after the expiry of VMware Workstation, you can continue to use the free VMware Player.

    Hope this helps,

  • problem of graphics screen in OSX Mountain Lion - VMWare Player on Windows

WIndows 7 or Windows XP, when you use VMWare Player with Mac OS X Lion mountains or the Mavericks, there is a problem of graphical layout.

    I noticed this twice already:

    1. in the system preferences when you try to change the personal image for users and groups. You can see your own image, but trying to change the image of the drop-down list page shows only a blank page. Nevertheless, he is content. When you tic on the blank page, you can change the image, but without visual reference.
    2. I tried iWeb Design in Mac OSX Mavericks. The same situation. By choosing a layout you see a blank page, but it is contained. Try adding that an image or a text always results in a blank page on the screen.

No idea how to solve this problem?

    Greetings,

I'm new to VMWare, and I Fusion for Mac OSX that accesses my Bootcamp (Win7) partition.

I recently installed VMWare Workstation 9 for Windows that includes VMWare Player.

Is there anyway to access my Mac OS x partition from the side Bootcamp as I do when I use Fusion on Mac to access Win7?

I see the answer go both ways, but I wanted to post on the forum to be sure.

  • VMware player installs on windows 8?

Hello, so I try to install VMware player on my windows machine 8. It offers full administrator access, but whenever I run the Setup it says MSI does not and gives me the log file. I have tried a lot of different things, such as the removal of temporary files, change the directory for temporary files, etc.. Nothing seems to work. Can someone give me an idea of why it's a failure and how to fix it?

The newspaper showed a 1603 error so take a look to: VMware has produced fails to install with error 1603 (1009167)

However, if by chance you have Avast AntiVirus or Internet Security installed, you may need to uninstall to get VMware Player/Workstation to install.

  • Installation of snow leopard in VMWare Player

    Hello

I'm at the end of the help.  I bought a copy of snow leopard from apple, so this is a legitimate copy. I have an intel i7 3770 k processor, 16 GB of ram. I'm eager to try to install snow leopard on my virtual environment machine Iona. Up to now he tells me that I'm unable to install a 64-bit operating system. I have WO Windows 7 works beautifully and is a 32-bit operating system. The main operating system is windows 8 and it's 64-bit.

If anyone has guides on how to install snow leopard without having to get a dubious copy of a torrent, I would be very grateful. All the world is that so far?

  • VMware Workstation VMX unrecoverable ERROR when starting a VMachine

    Hi all

This is my first post and would really apreciate to help as I am facing a problem with VM Workstation (and with VMplayer)

I installed an evaluation of VMware Workstation 9 on my PC (see attached the System Configuration.png).

When you try to start a newly created VMachine I still get the same error you see in 2 attached images-screenshots 'fatal error VMX' and after that "cannot find a peer process valid to connect to" (see attachment VMware Player - Workstation and VMware Player - Workstation Error_02.png Error_01.png)

I don't really know what else to try, I tried to reinstall VM Workstation 9, I uninstalled VM Workstation 9 and tryied with VMPlayer 4 and 5, but I still get the same error.

As you can see in attachment System Configuration.png my motherboard is made with the NVidia GeForce 7100 Northbridge and SouthBridge NForce 630i2008.

    I have attached vmware.log and vmware-vmx - 3468.dmp

I also check with VM tools boot cd and the results where 'compatible with VMWARE = YES ". only RDTSCP was: No.

Can someone please? wouldn't be a problem of compatibility of equipment?

Thank you in advance, I really apreciate any help.

  • How to transfer the old operating system to Windows XP on a drive USB3 to allow the start of a new XP computer

I have Windows XP SP3 on a Dell computer. I have a new computer with Windows 7 Pro.

I want the option to be able to start my new computer with XP and run it as an alternative to USB.

Is there a way I can completely transfer the contents of the drive WITH the XP OPERATING SYSTEM on a regular external USB3 drive so I can start the new computer using XP works like the operating system, when I need?

    Thank you.

You do not have.  Windows XP doesn't work this way (start of the external drive).

You can virtualize the old computer (physical to virtual conversion) and run it as a virtual machine on your new system.  Although, honestly, it would be a bit beyond the type of assistance usually given in these home user forums.  A Google search would be ways to virtualize a physical system and/or choose which Manager of virtualization that you want to use (Microsoft VirtualPC, VirtualBox, VMware Player/workstation, etc...)

  • BB10 Simulator - how to stop?

How can I stop the Simulator? I tried a little bit about all the keys on my keyboard, and none of them does not seem to do something special. I'm assuming that actual devices have a power on / off button, or * some * way of turning the device off, then how could I do on the Simulator?

Please note: the 'power off' option in the VMware Player/workstation is NOT the way to do it. It would be the same as 'pulling the plug' or ' withdrawal you battery while the device is still on ", which is extremely bad.

    I must be missing something.

You can use the controller bb10 program (installed in the same location as the Simulator) that simulates the hardware buttons (among others) on the device.

While a power-reset to zero through vmware is more convenient and does not side effects cause unwanted imho

  • Size does matter

    This is my first post.

I am trying to install the free version of fusion on my Mac and the problem is that space that is demanding is 1.4 tb. It is mandatory to copy all virtual machines HDS? Is to reduce this size?

Another doubt: the PC must always be connected to access the virtual machine on mac or everything is copied to the mac? I ask this question because the merger is trying to get the 1.4 tb of my PC

    Thank you.

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone is installed on the Source of Windows OS and is used to create a Virtual Machine from this system.  When creating the Virtual Machine, I would say it be stored in an external storage device like a USB HDD vs sent over a network connection.  Note that if your system supports USB 3.0, which is significantly faster then USB 2.0.   If the Source system has multiple Partitions/Volumes/drives and not all are needed/wanted to be in the Virtual Machine and then you can use the controls available in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to exclude unnecessary/unwanted Partitions/Volumes/drives.  I strongly suggest to read the documentation! Take a look at: VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.5 User's Guide

Once the virtual machine has been created it can be transferred to the Mac and does not need to be imported in VMware Fusion, which is already a Machine virtual VMware.  Also I'm not saying that you can't transfer via a network connection, just don't recommend it except if there is absoutly no other options!

The only thing you can do is to add an extension of .vmwarevn to the folder that contains the files that make up the Virtual Machine that this makes a bunch of Virtual Machine as the default type created by VMware Fusion.  Other products VMware as VMware Player/workstation under Windows or Linux just use a normal folder when OS X gives a special meaning to the extension of .vmwarevm treat the file as a package.  Then use the Virtual Machine in VMware Fusion, you can use the file > open command or double-click on the Package of the Virtual Machine or if you don't package it just double-click the .vmx config file.  However, I claim that you add the .vmwarevm extension, transforming the file in one package because it has advantages compared to leave as a folder.

Post edited by: WoodyZ - I forgot to mention once virtualize the physical machine, you will need to purchase additional licenses for the two OS and installed licensed applications if you intend to continue to use the physical Machine and VM, even if not at the same time!

  • MSI Setup error, failed

I downloaded and tried to install version 6 and VMWare version 5, but both times the player, I get an error from a file MSI failed.VMWare Error.PNG

I get the error even though I have "Run as Administrator" and I am logged on as administrator.

My system is Win7 Home 64 bit.

    The downloaded file is ' VMware-player - 6.0.0 - 1395980.

    File version 5 has been "VMware-player - 5.0.2 - 1031769.

The two are install on "Program Files (x 86) / VMware/VMware Player ' as a default.

Anyone know why it fails to install?

You validate the checksum MD5/SHA1 of the package install downloaded against its published values?

You have an installed Avast AntiVirus or Internet Security product?  If so, this has been a problem in the recent past and workaround has been temporarily uninstall Avast, install VMware Player/Workstation, reinstall Avast.  Turn off Avast in these cases was not enough!

  • Problem installing on Ubuntu 13.04 VMtools

    Hello

I have a VM (workstation 8.0.6) running with ubuntu 64-bit 13.04 - I try to install the vm tools, but I get this error in the middle of the installation:

"The path" "is not a valid path to the headers of the core of 3.8.0 - 19-generic.

It gives me this error all the time, even though I did sudo apt - get update & & sudo apt - get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname-r)

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

Correct in a Terminal in a Virtual Machine of Ubuntu 13.04 I use the following command:

Note: Copy and paste, as is, in the Terminal to avoid typos.  Make sure you copy all the command line.

    sudo ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/include/linux/version.h

Then I extracted the contents of the VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893683.tar.gz file in / tmp and then replace the existing vmhgfs.tar file and the file vmci.tar in/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/lib/modules/source with those set by zhfjyq.

Then in a Terminal I cd to/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib and issued the following command to install VMware Tools:

    sudo ./vmware-install.pl

After installing VMware tools I stop the virtual machine and together a folder shared VMware then started the tested, and virtual machine VMware shared folder, Drag & Drop and copy / paste (the last two in either direction) and all work as expected.

BTW... I tested using VMware Fusion 5.0.3 and a guest of 13.04 Ubuntu but although I have not compared the latest VMware Linux for VMware Player/workstation tools I don't see why it shouldn't work in VMware Workstation 9.0.2 or VMware Player 5.0.2 Although one might want to use the VMware Tools for the corresponding version of the VMware product!   It worth a try anyway.

  • Installation/running with no colour ethernet port?

    Hello

I read some people having problems installing vmware workstation because their ethernet card is not recognized. I have a question related to that.

I'm about to buy a Dell XPS 13 "ultrabook". Like the MacBook Air, it is not an Ethernet port, a wifi connection.

I'm worried about not being able to install/run vmware workstation and vmware player because of it, or not being able to configure is the networking as bridge.

Can someone please comment on this situation so I can decide if I would be able to use the ultrabook as I want.

I can't speak to the specific computer you're watching however in general there should be no problem installing VMware Player/Workstation on a host system which has no Ethernet however using a virtual network filled with WiFi adapter can be problematic.  It can also be for various reasons, some are due to how routers/switches can be configured, and others may have problems with the host and or VMware virtual network.  Over the years, I've seen different scenarios where using the means of the virtual network filled with WiFi adapter can be a problem and the solution is simple and acceptable sometimes and other times not.
