Portege 3110CT and CDROM

I have a Portege 3110CT with PCPMCIA CD-ROM. I am trying to upgrade to WinXP Win2000Pro system. Even if I run the upgrade of the CR - ROM, at some point in the installation process (after entering the license), it says that it cannot find any CD-ROM. What should I do?

Arild

Hello

Portege series is sometimes not easy to install. Problem is that, after that reboot is no real driver for external device. The portable installation remember the installation source.

I think maybe it will be possible to install it directly from the HARD drive. Try copying the CD of Windows XP Home edition for second partition of HARD drive and run the installer from there.

    The problem that I had was that shot didn't work with the metro interface and touch works also and in portrait, strangely, when you touch the secren with different directions woul two arrows appear.

    This driver solved my problem.

    Hope this can help...

    Hi snicker_1,

    There are many differences between these models and also, there are different R700 and R630 models on the market.

    In my opinion, you should check these notebooks from Toshiba Web site. There you can see what models are currently available and the configuration.

  • Portege R100 and HDD upgrade

    Hello

    I have a Portege R100 and I want to upgrade the 40 GB HARD disk. What is the highest size that I could upgrade using Toshiba or not Toshiba HDD?
    There are 1.8 "SSD? What would be the best way to update?

    Thank you
    Romeo

    I have an old Portege 2000 and it's almost the same specifications your one, but my has been delivered with 20 GB of HARD drive. I've updated it with 60 GB and it works perfectly.
    I can understand your wishes on the HARD drive upgrade, but I recommend you to be a little more realistic and spend it is logical and understandable for this older model laptop.

    So I can confirm that 60 GB HARD drive will be working well. Maybe you can use the HARD disk with more capacity, but Toshiba is now your Portege with 40 GB max. What you can do is to contact the nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer and ask them if they have more experiences with the hardware upgrade on this laptop.

    To be honest, this laptop is not designed for multimedia stuff and in fact 60 GB HARD drive is quite enough for the installation of applications and for the registration of all the important things like maybe a few videos, photos and office documents.

    What you want to do with this laptop?

    After having invited to do, I recently upgraded to Windows XP two my Portege m400 and m200 notebooks.
    Since then, I've noticed as hotkeys that i.e. Fn + F1 - F12 has stopped working.
    Outside the windows updates, I only use and change a lot on the m200 so I am sure this has to do with the Xp updates.

  • Portege M700 and Windows 7

    Hi all

    I installed Windows 7 RC on my Portege M700, and everything was fine, except:

    -Intel(r) Management Engine Interface (show on the device as a PCI Simple Communications controller Manager);
    -Novatel Mobilink to the Novatel Wireless Broadband (3G HSDPA) SM-Bus minicards Modem integrated (EU870D) (list on the device as 4 Interfaces of data manager).

    I used the drivers on Windows 7

    I even managed to get the drivers for the Modem from Novatel minimap from a previous version and accepted Device Manager.
    But when I try to install the v2.02.27 from Novatel MobiLink available [here: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&selCategory=2 & selFamily = 4 & selSeries = 157 & selProduct = 773 & selShort Mod = 684 & language = 13 & selOS = 26 & selType = all & yearuploa d = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = Chinas allMa & search = & action = search & macId = & country = 8 & page = 2 & startPage = 1] he justs roles back the instalation before it's over.

    Do you know if toshiba plans to deliver a version of Mobilink from Novatel compatible with Windows 7?
    And what of the Intel(r) Management Engine Interface? There will also be a compatible version?

    Thanks in advance guys...

    Hello

    > I even managed to get the drivers for the Modem from Novatel minimap from a previous version and accepted Device Manager. But when I try to install the v2.02.27 from Novatel MobiLink available only here it justs roles back the instalation before it's over.

    The point is that you tried to install the driver on Win 7 OS Vista and this could be the problem. Seems the Vista driver is not supported with Win 7.
    Of course, some drivers Vista would go with Win 7 but not all drivers are compatible.

    I think you have to wait until the drivers Win 7 for the 3G module would appear.

  • Portege compatibility and max CPU

    Hi, I just bought a Portege R100 and wonder if the accessories that I'm about to buy are compatible with it mainly to start the fine system.

    Drive DVD - ROM Toshiba PCMCIA Slimline external 8 x
    Model PA3246U-1DVD
    (did this start ok?)

    Toshiba USB floppy drive
    Model number PA3109U-1FDD
    (did this start ok?)

    Also my R100 is a 1 GHz processor, and I wonder what is the fastest processor, it can take, because I just saw a R100 with a 1.4 ghz pentium M processor.

    Thank you for your advanced information

    Sunny

    Hello

    Slimline external DVD ROM drive 8 x / 24 x with part number PA3246E-1DVD is compatible with your device. Normally to start, you need cable PCMCIA 16 bits, but I'm sure you can use the 32-bit PCMCIA cable delivered with slimline DVD-ROM.

    Floppy drive is no problem. You can buy this one.

  • Problems of subsequent update on Portege M400 and W7

    I did a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on my Portege M400 and it looks particularly pretty good.

    However, I do not have a utility to map the buttons (including the one that indicates the landscape/portrait orientation has changed). Who would be on the Toshiba Software Installer for Windows 7 (tsi4win7.exe)? Attempt to run that flashes a dialog box before displaying a second dialog box saying "this device is not manufactured by Toshiba or the BIOS is not Windows 7 compatible. No update will take place."

    I check that the BIOS was not serious for WIndows 7 before making the instalation. Trying to apply the latest version of the BIOS gives an error message "[error] BIOS update is not supported. No support for operating system or service pack is installed. »

    Can anyone help?

    As much I know Portege M400 only is not supported for Win7. If you can not find drivers and tools specific to Toshiba for this model of laptop.
    I'm sorry.

    The only thing you can try is to install stuff for other models supported, in the hope, it works well.

  • Portege R100 and Linux - function keys not working do not and the latest version of the BIOS?

    Hello world

    I have a Portege R100 (PPR10L-13G10P). I am trying to install Linux and when you try to access function keys (F6) the computer does not allow me to... no idea why?

    Also, what is the latest version of BIOS for this computer? And where it can be downloaded?

    Thanks in advance!

    Terrence

    Hello

    At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux in general if you are alone with this problem.
    I hope that someone will be able to help you a bit.
    If you want to discover the latest version of the BIOS, just enter the BIOS settings and check it out.
    BIOS version latest won't help you at all, so my opinion is that you shouldn't change anything.

    Anyway, the bio download page is - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp

    The feature keys F is supported by special tool Windows and it only works on Windows.

  • Portege M400 and Vista - load PSD ends with crash

    I am an owner of a Portege M400 (PPM40E) and recently upgraded my Vista operating system. All new drivers work very well except for the * TPM *. Here's what's happening.

    There's nothing wrong with the installation of security platform. I can create a disc to ensure personal (PSD), load and unload until the first time I got disabling my computer.
    After each attempt to load the PSD is answered by an accident. Two seconds after the sending of password, I get a blue screen that informs me the source of the problem: * PFN_LIST_CORRUPT *, a memory dump file is created and the system restarts.

    Anyone facing this problem? Does anyone know how to restore data from a backup manually the PSD created? The Restore dialog box does not accept the * .fsb file.

    It would be great if someone could help me with this as I have not 'clear' backup files that I had stored on the DSP.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob

    Hello

    I googled a little and found details of error PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.
    NFP: Page frame number and describes the sharing of individual images of main memory where the driver running or orders of this application.
    If an application or driver is beyond this scope, then a BSOD will appear.

    Here are a few tips and proposals to solve this problem I found on an external Web page:
    -updated the BIOS and set the default settings
    -reinstall and update the display driver, audio driver, LAN driver, etc.
    -Reinstall the security help,
    -update the Windows operating system

    In the worst cases, this problem could be caused by a malfunction of the RAM, and in this case, the RAM modules should be replaced.

    Sorry, but I didn't find more info on this issue.

  • Portege R100 and new hard drive

    I think to put in a larger capacity internal hard drive - 40G is now a little bit :(

    Does anyone do this? The traps? Any suggestions on compatible drives?

    TIA

    Hello

    As far as I know the old Portege R100 supported a HDD IDE controller.
    So you will definitely need an IDE HDD. I think that it s a 1.8 IDE HDD.

    I think the HDD IDE controller supports only the 28-bit LBA and it would mean that there would be larger than 120 GB hard drives not recognized.

    That's why I choose smaller hard drives.

  • Portege R500 - defective cdrom causes very common on self-test

    Hi all

    the internal CD-ROM drive in my R500 is no longer recognized. He went in the 'My computer' view in Windows XP. Sometimes he is shown as a unknown device in the control of the material, but most of the time that we show any. The cdrom still turns up to the insertion of a disc and seems to act "normal" (regarding the flashing of light, sound, etc.)

    Given that this fault has occurred, the power on self test takes about 2 minutes before the operating system is started later. In addition, the screen goes black for about a minute after it is finished with this startup resolved (Windows XP) first of all, low screen. Sometimes, the same occurs during closing.

    I don't know which is the reason why or if there is a third underlying cause, but he began to appear at the same time. Once activated the bios debug output, all the self tests have been printed as 'ok', but after the last test is finished, it is at a standstill (perhaps until some timeout kicks in).

    You have any suggestions or should I send it in (that would be quite unpleasant for me, depending on the machine)?

    Hello

    Are you sure that this problem is caused by the defective CD/DVD drive?
    Of course a material error could affect the power on self test (POST), but it is really hard to tell if it s caused by ODD.

    Hmmm, what you could do is remove the STRANGE to the laptop and to start the machine, in this case the MESSAGE should be transmitted correctly.
    If this isn't the case, so I doubt that the problem could be linked to the STRANGE

    However, if it s a hardware related issue, then the laptop should be addressed to the ASP in your country
    The R500 does not seem to be an old book so I guess that the guarantee is valid and the repair must be made free of charge.

  • Portege R100 and RIPREP

    Hello

    I'm having a problem with RIS and my laptop Toshiba Portege R100. When I try to extract an image from the notebook using riprep, it keeps failing. This happens even with a vanilla XP installation. All other my laptop works very well except this model.

    I noticed that since the file riprep.sif the last lines are missing from the torn picture failure. A successful image should look like this:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "test image - Toshiba R100"
    Help =' '
    LaunchFile ="%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.c om»
    ImageType = SYSPREP
    Version = "5.1 (2600) '"
    SysPrepSystemRoot = "Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS".
    HalName = halacpi.dll
    ProductType = 0

    An image failed would replace the last few lines with the following information:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "Windows Professional.
    Help = "this will install Windows Professional in a standard configuration.
    LaunchFile = "%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.co m '.
    ImageType = "Flat".

    I also checked the riprep.log file to see if there was no problem there. There are some services that were not arrested before the images were torn off. However, these services also appear in other newspapers of riprep files other images which have succeeded. I also stopped these services before starting the imaging process, but the problem persists.

    I rip an image successfully just now. I showed a colleague what happens when I tried using riprep, and it worked. I was pretty stripped, but this was the first and last time.

    I should also mention that the configuration of the network is DHCP statistics. I also tried to give a static IP address.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    If you need further information do not hesitate to contact me.
