Re: "unknown device" on Portege R500 after installing XP

Hello

I have a Portege r500 ppr50e-05402ren on which I removed vista and installed winXP.

I installed the video sound, bluetooth, lan, wlan, and the pilots of the sd.
However, I still have an 'unknown device', with an exclaimation mark in the Device Manager.

Anyone has any idea what this could be?

TIA,

A

Just install everything from the Toshiba page.

But maybe you're talking about the memory controller PCI.
It s Intel Turbo Memory, also called logic chip cache Flash Intel. It's quite new technology designed to support the new features of Vista and XP doesn t have supported. That is why the unknown device in Device Manager

    Hi ymkx,

All the drivers and tools that you need can be downloaded here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Also this nice article should help you identify the devices:

Additionally, make sure that Service Pack 3 is installed before starting with the installation of the driver.

  • Portege R500 - after what ODD hardware upgrade will not read

Recently, I bought a vintage 2008 Toshiba R500-11Z laptop ultraportable. He needed a new keyboard, because most of the keys are dead, so I bought a new replacement (exact same keyboard, an eBay seller). I also decided to give a new breath of life by installing a SSD drive. The old keyboard was attached to the frame with some sort of sticky back plastic, which is not reusable, so for the new keyboard, I used a strong adhesive tape double-sided. Before you screw the plastic rear landing gear I installed Windows 7, with the loosely adapted landing gear up. Installation of Windows is complete and everything seemed fine. After screwing in the landing gear, I discovered that optics player his original "open-top" mat * a DVD-RAM UJ - 844-S would not read disks. He just made a noise 3 times but does not spin then upward as it normally would. Drive is visible in Explorer solutions and Device Manager.

After unscrewing the undercarriage, the relocation of the optical drive and rescrewing several times, I was not able to get the optical drive to play all discs. What I created is that the disc must be catching on the ceiling, thus signalling the reader to turns don't not upward; leaving the screws each side of the lander was allowed to create a gap, so there is more room between the optical drive and the ceiling of the laptop. Disks will then turn upward and Windows AutoPlay will open to them. What I can't work, it's what has changed in regard to the way in which the drive is mounted and its position relative to the ceiling above him. Or if the reader is now trying to turn a corner. There are two blocking screws that hold the drive in place, so that the reader must be at the same place its always been.

I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before, and if there is an easy solution. According to me, I hit a wall of bricks on this one!

    Thanks in advance.

Just to say, after a lot of head scratching, I worked on the problem. I had made a mistake by attaching the clamp metal Assembly at the rear of the optical drive.

I had screwed the clip outside the Orange connector when he had to be inside (between the optical drive and the orange connector). It seems that it must have pushed the player to place just enough to prevent it from functioning properly.

    Hello Sosocompliterate,

Thank you for your message.  This computer connects to your printer via the USB port?  If Yes, are you able to use other USB devices on your computer?  You can try to change the output port the printer is connected to exclude a possible bad USB port on your computer.  Otherwise, if USB is detected on your computer and that you can't always not to recognize the printer, the result is most likely a bad cable or a defective printer.

    Thank you very much
    Marco

    Hi Marco

As I can see from another thread, you Satellite L50-A-1CU. According to the specifications of the laptop this laptop was offered with pre-installed 64 bit ML WIN8.1.
Preinstalled OS contains all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities, so I want to ask you if there is a problem with the feature.

Please don't get me wrong, but I use laptop 4 years but always with the original substance of preinstalled and everything works perfectly so I don't see the reason to change anything if the machine works well and pre-installed OS is stable.

One last thing. Do not use the Microsoft drivers. Some of them are offered as optional Windows updates. Don change anything. Use the original Toshiba drivers only.

  • Portege R500 - cannot install built-in XP Bluetooth drivers

I recently installed XP and all is well (except for having them to change the hard drive in compatibility mode to fix SATA) except for one thing that makes me a wall: I can not install the Bluetooth stack. He comes to the point where he asked me to plug in the unit, but that's all.

First, I downloaded the battery in the page of downloading my model (6.1), and then subsequently 6.4 of Toshiba Bluetooth support page - not working. I tried the Bluetooth monitor, which seems to do nothing except remove the external Bluetooth Toshiba program menu items.

At the present time, there is a yellow antenna icon lit in the touchpad, LED display.
By pressing FN + F8 seems to do nothing (also, the wifi works fine with Intel drivers).
The BIOS has been recently updated to the latest version.

    Hello

First are you sure that your portable computer with the module internal BT?
You see a few BT labels at the bottom of the unit?

If the laptop supports the internal BT module then installing BT stack should run without problem.
After you run the exe file in BT stack folder/package, the installation should run through all the steps of the installation and rebooted again, you must activate the BT using the FN + F8 key combination.

Using this button, you can switch between WiFi and BT. Choose BT you should be able to configure the BT

    I installed Win XP SP2

The t is not his work because I didn't install the patches MS; KB835221 & KB888111

The patches must be installed as a first step, before the audio driver is installed.
If you have already installed the audio driver, then you must remove (uninstall) before install you the patches Ms.

    Hello

I remember this question and he has already asked here in the forum.

I searched a bit, found the thread forum for liaison with the doc of Toshiba.

    Check this box:
[After the installation of Windows, an unknown device is visible in the Device Manager | http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7501W20006R01.htm]

The unknown device could be solved by installing a "Uitility password" or "Supervisor Password utility.

  • M18x R2 Windows 8 "unknown device".

Hello everyone, I have an Alienware M18x R2, which displays "Unknown device" in Device Manager.

    Here are the specs:

    I7 3920

    32GB 1600 Mhz RAM

    2 x GTX 680's

2 x 1 TB drive HARD Western Digital 5400 RPM

    1 x 60 GB OCZ mSATA HDD

    380 Bluetooth

    WiFi killer

    Win 8 Pro 64-bit

This particular "unknown device" does not appear with a Windows 7 operating system

If I use Windows seven and install all recommended drivers, there is no problem, the "unknown device" in question is not yet with Windows 7 running, I did a clean Windows 7 and verified installation each device ID in Device Manager before installing anything else to see if I could find the one causing problems in Windows 8 - this is no where

As soon as I install Windows 8 and check Device Manager, then this particular "unknown device" appears again, even after the installation of all the drivers in Windows 8 recommended is the only 'unknown' on the left.

I tried searching the Internet using the hardware vendor ID and the device ID provided in the details section of the "unknown device" but could not find an entry useful, even using the databases of the seller and the material has been a waste of time

Here is the hardware device ID exactly as it appears, three lines altogether, but I think the top one is relevant.

    ACPI\VEN_DELL & DEV_ABCE

    ACPI\DELLABCE

    Any help would be great.

    Hello

Have you installed all the drivers Toshiba XP which appear on the European driver from Toshiba site?

There is also a training installation document that gives the proper installation order. Please check if all the XP drivers were installed, as mentioned in this doc.

In addition, you should check if you have installed the MS WinXP SP2 and Utility Intel chipset.
