Portege M400: Cannot retrieve screen cut-off

Sometimes after the screen time-out turned off I can not retrieve the situation, which occurs more frequently in tablet mode. Any key / button I press on the screen does not recover, but I can see the disk activity light that the camera seems to function normally. The only resolution at this point that I found is a reset of power coercive.

Someone at - it suggestions?

It of not easy to say what's wrong or why it occurs.
To me, this looks like a software problem. Perhaps that some registry entries are corrupted or system files are damaged.
In any case, try to use applications to clean the registry. I use the CCleaner. It s a freeware tool and you can find it on most of the download sites. Google a bit.

  • Re: Portege M400 - cannot retrieve - HDD is inaccessible

    Hello

Last year, I bought the M400 with XP Tablet on it, but if I give the proper maintenance of my laptop, it became so slow, that will only work for a clean install.
So I put the recovery CD in the drive, start from the cd, choose the language (all languages give the same error) and want to start the recovery, but then it says that my hard drive is inaccessible or does not.

But when I reboot (judgment of the hard drive), everything works fine (except that it's very slow). I checked the hard drive for errors using HD-tune, no errors. I removed all the passwords and fingerprints of passwords etc but nothing seems not to help...

Does anyone know how what to do next?

    Hello

Have you tried to reinstall the OS from Toshiba Recovery CD?

    Protected M400 supports the RAID.
Need RAID driver RAID and without the RAID driver the HARD drive is not visible for the installation of the OS.

So, if you are using a new installation of Windows the driver RAID is included first.

  • Portege M400 - cannot install OS or restore an old image

I have a portege M400 and im hardly set any operating system of windows on them. When it gets to the stage where he asks what hard drive to put in place the windows files to, it does not detect the drives.

I also have an image on a hard drive that I use a universal driver restore program to restore to any laptop regardless of the make and model and which also blue screens after the logo of windows xp when it starts up. The toshiba is the first laptop that I fell on this issue.

The BIOS is currently 1.8 I think, I can't even put the hard drive in compatibility mode or AHCI.

im a little confused about restrictions of this laptop.

Can someone guide me on what I need to do to install windows on this machine please?

Timox is right: the RAID driver must be added during the installation of Windows XP.
During installation, you will be asked to add 3rd third-party drivers. As I m not wrong not you must press F6 to add the RAID driver.

Very important note: do not format the HARD drive once the RAID driver has been added because this would remove the RAID driver from the HARD drive and installing Windows XP will fail again.

    Can someone help me please?

I recently received the Portege M400 from a friend 4 days ago and reformatted for Windows XP Tablet Edition.

So far I have had no success in the resolution of this problem and I really appreciated, is that someone could help me!

  • Top of the screen cut off

First Watch that most of the people are going to say that I have a screen resolution problem, I can tell you that it is not the case. The problem, for some reason any the top of my screen is off; but not in the usual way. Its as there is a buffer as if Explorer thinks it can go as high as she can (rephrasing Windows Explorer solves the problem for a little bit, but then it goes back to be cut.) I have a dual monitor set up, with a monitor 20' via vga and a 22' tv via hdmi, regardless of which I display main happens and only on the primary display. You can still see just background Explorer will go on top of the page if he at the top of the screen. I tried a clean boot, but that did not work, I don't know what are the causes of the problem, it seems to just happen on its own. The screen 20' resolution is 1600 x 900 and the TV resolution is 1920 x 1080. Anyone have any ideas?

Well I just inadvertently solved the problem... it turns out that it had nothing to do with the resolution of the screen, but it was the fault of dell all! Reference Dell defined the default theme to one that changed the log on the bottom, until I restarted, I changed the theme to the theme of landscape. When I logged in and the screen did not get pushed down, I changed the theme of dell and of course, everything has been cut. So I just stay away from this theme dell then.

  • Where can I find the tutorials without the bottom of the screen cut off?

One of the first tutorials shows the guy take a giraffe from a photo and put it on the beach. (He moves too fast) It clicked once and moves by... I can't tell what the bottom of the screen is cut off! and it's slightly blurry, not very good tutorials. (Lightroom tutorials were great, day and night)... I tried this same thing, first it resized my picture for a little thing and when I clicked with the Quick Selection tool it erratic chose only the parts of the person I'm moving. What I am doing wrong? Three hours and I am so frustrated that I forgot most of what I have learned. I had a little things in two on the same window by moving a single photo at a time and the second was my second layer but could not get to see the two on the list that I can use a layer. So basically, it was a disaster. I'm giving today.

  • Portege M400 - cannot use full 4 GB of RAM

I installed two modules of KTT667D2 / 2G on my laptop (Portege M400-103, part No. PPM40E - 012018 G 3) - total do 4 GB. However, the two original Windows XP Tablet and Ubuntu 9.04 are unable to see all 4 GB - they see 3.2 GB only.
The BIOS displays the amount properly - 4096 Mb.
I also tried to solve the problem of updating the BIOS to the latest version (3.80, 30/05/08), but two operating systems (Windows and Ubuntu) see still 3.2 GB only.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    That s nothing unusual!
That s a limitation of 32-bit. All operating systems 32-bit (no matter if it is Vista, XP or Linux) can manage 3.2 GB max.
Only a 64-bit OS might be able to use and recognize more than 3.2 GB of RAM

You should read a few articles about 32 bit OS and 4 GB RAM problem.

  • Portege M400: Cannot install windows XP

    Hello

My friend gave me his Toshiba Portege M400 (PPM40E) at the table of settings windows XP (HHD is already formatted copmletely).

Before that I've never worked with SATA controller

So, when installing RAID drivers are required for any HDD lying.
I bought the USB floopy and downloaded some drivers from Intel.

Having suffered a bit, I found requireded (as I thought), hard disk drivers detected (even the license agreement I signed) but that pilots still needed to proceed with the installation.

IF someone faced this problem can you send me on my e-mail ([email protected]) required drivers or give me an exact link?
    Looking forward to your advice.

    Thank you for understanding,
    Best regards from Russia

    Hello

Maybe a stupid question but why you do not use supplied recovery media for the installation of the OS? As much as I know Portege M400 (PPM40E) comes with Windows XP edition PC of Table (teacher WXP).

Anyway, check it please this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316401/en-us

  • Portege M400 - cannot navigate through the pages of BIOS

    Hello

I bought a M400 Tablet system and having a lot of trouble with the BIOS.

I am able to get into the BIOS, but it seems to be limited.
It is said there are three pages, and to use the pgup and pgdn to edit pages, it does not work.

I tried with a USB keyboard and remove the keyboard of the Tablet, but it does not work either.
The laptop doesn't have a SWSetup installed on it. That I download from the Web site but say that the BIOS is incorrect.

I decided to Flash the BIOS.
Windows downloaded BIOS flash and say is that the BIOS is incorrect.

I would like to reinstall the OS, but for the moment, I don't then so that it can boot from the CD that I can not change the boot sequence.

    Can someone help me please.

    Hello

    That s strange.
First of all, you can boot from the CD by pressing F12 and then you could choose ODD as a boot device.

Secondly it s interesting to know whether certain passwords (user or supervisor password) have been defined, because this kind of password could restrict by changing BIOS options.

  • Re: Portege M400 - cannot change anything in the Bios

    I need to device boot cd-rom 1-st.
It has no operating system installed on my hard drive.

    I couldn't change my BIOS.
I hold down the button Esc then F1.

After I see the Bios screen, but I can't change anything.
I can only escape without and with the changes?
    No element can be changed?

    Can someone help me?

    Hello

You do not need to change the boot device in the BIOS.
You can also set it in laptop power on.
Press F12, immediately after that the laptop has been powered
Then a start menu should appear.
Here you must choose ODD as boot device and should confirm with the Enter key.

    That s it

  • Portege M400 - cannot install Windows XP on the new HARD drive

    Hello here is my problem,

I bought an older Portegre M400 E, without a HARD drive. So I buy a new Samsung 400 GB. I looked in the Bios (ACPI BIOS Version 3.40) and it is ok. He shows me the HARD drive with built in Assign LD - 0 status ONLINE, 400 GB size so it seems to be nice. Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0
So, I want to boot from the Windows XP CD, not recovering my own.

Windows open to the top and after a short period, the installation ends with the message that it is not any HARD drive. This I try sometimes :-( Hope someone can help me.
Do not forget that I didn't have any HARD disk with the dates of the laptop.

    Thank you Carsten
(Sorry my English is not so good Im from the Germany)

    Wilkommen!

    > Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0

I don't know much about your model, but I think that something wrong with the raid in the Bios settings. What other options are available in the Bios for the State of the hard drive? I found the RAID driver on the Toshiba driver page. It is possible, that you can integrate in with a program called nlite Windows installation disc or install Windows as in compatibility mode, and install the Raid driver. then

  • Portege M400: cannot copy the files on the disk HARD - can't see any of my files in Word

I bought the M400 a few weeks ago. There are a number of problems. Adobe reader gives "an internal error has occurred", manual installation of download gives "error occurred in the file zip", download or copy of the files on the hard disk gives error "there is no space" when there are only 8 gig used from 60 GB. Now, I don't see any of my files in Word.

I can also copy the files from the cd or DVD. I'm in canada mississauga on Horus, usually resident in the United Kingdom, so I'm in a precarious situation because I can't in my office to sort out the issues.

Can someone advise me please why all these problems are happening, do I have to use the recovery disk? Baz

    > Forgive me but how to put the hard drive in business.

I think that the Johnny means that you connect the HARD drive to another computer using the external USB HDD controller. These external USB HDD cases can be purchase in every store of the computer.

However, if you n t need data that are placed on the HARD drive, you could simply start installing the OS from the recovery CD. This will format the whole HARD drive and install the new operating system as well as all the drivers, utilities and software further.

  • Portege M400 - utillity rotation screen problem

The screen rotation utility, or more exactly the tilt to TOSHIBA accelerometer utilities is incapable of running and comes up with an error unable to open registry, (I got the utility on the site of Toshiba American as they seem to be a little more ahead of the release of the software and updates for their laptops).

However, it seems that the problem is that the software does not work due to refuse access to the registry!
Any ideas on how to give the software the rights to access the registry or a version more work on the software, which works?

    Hi Oliver

I can only repeat my statements here in the laptop forum and (drivers & tools) software designed for the American market are the same as the substance of the Toshiba Europe!
I m not very surprised that the accelerometer TOSHIBA utility does not work correctly.
That's why I really recommend you to download the version on the Toshiba Europe site and reinstall this tool.

    I m 90% sure this will work like a dream ;)

  • Touch screen does not work on the old Portege M400

I'm trying to restore an old Toshiba Portege M400. I have WIN XP Tablet 2005 installed and which, according to me, are all the drivers. Everything works perfectly except the touch screen.

I've been all over the web, downloaded and installed some drivers WACOM Vigneau suggested in another thread here - still no luck.

Anyone have any ideas or experience on how to solve this problem?

    > I would not be able to use my fingernail or or a pencil eraser to type with (I don't have any kind of pen) just to test?

To my knowledge, you have the pen in order to use the touch screen.
As far as I know there are two pens in the portege M400.
The reserve pen located at the bottom of the unit that there should be a slot that the second pen.
