Portege M400: How to disable biometric fingerprints

Hi guys, at our office, we are setting up a Toshiba M400 that will later prove the image using ghost and deploy approximately 75 remote users. I want to disable biometric fingerprinting equipment so that users cannot use it.

I removed the Protector Suite QL and also the drivers associated with the biometric device. "TCUB. SYS '.

in Device Manager, the device is set to "do not use this device" but it still shows in Device Manager? I also deleted any reference to it in the registry. search for "protector suite ql ' keys and remove them.

The device does not work, but is always LURKING in the background, which will encourage users to check and try and make it work!

Is it possible to remove completely any reference to this device, so it does not show in the Device Manager?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks... more information or question please let me know.

No, I don't think so. Shows Device Manager this device is disabled.
You can try to uninstall this device, but AFAIK after restarting again the OS will automatically search for the driver.
But why you don t set permissions for installing the driver?
You can create a new user account of quest and set the settings to a lower level.

By the way: you could try to remove the TOSHIBA fingerprint utility

  • Portege M400 - how to remove the Protector Suite fingerprint data

    Hi all

    (1) Protector Suite 5.4 sometimes generated a crash of Windows XP on my Portege M400.

    (2) I followed the suggestion of WinXP and upgraded to version 5.8. Unfortunately, this way I lost the automatic access features to Web sites protected by (the online help 5.8 says that this module is optional, but I have not found how to install it).

    (3) so I uninstalled the 5.8 and put again on the 5.4.

    (4) in the event of a disaster.

    (5) it is clear that the fingerprint data, updated to 5.8 format, are still somewhere in the system. Uninstalling Protector Suite's not destroy them. For this reason the 5.4 original does not do something, because in its user opinion data are corrupted. First of all, I can't remove/change data user from inside the program.

So, please, let me know where these data of fingerprints damned are so I'll be able to remove and Protector Suite from scratch.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I think there must be a folder or files storing fingerprints
But I m not sure where it is placed

However, as far as I know, you can use ONLY PS to enrol fingerprints.
    Have a look here:
    http://img22.imageshack.us/i/protectorsuite.gif/

There is an option that can cancel the stored fingerprints.

If uninstalling the software didn't help then use and clean the BONES and using a tool, for example, the registry CCLeaner.
It deletes all files and data on the HARD drive (in the registry) which have not been removed by Windows.

    Welcome them

  • Portege M400 - how to remove the condensation of water?

I received a second hand toshiba portege m400 mail and saw there probably a condensation of water trapped between the external display and touch screen behind her. because the screen in the upper left corner looks whitish. and the sender of the laptop said he wasn't there when he sent it. I have a picture of trapped moisture, for those who want to see it.

so, I opened the screen by unscrewing. and I saw that most of the moisture is stuck between the external screen glas and one other layer behind him, which I guess, is the part of the touch screen. who looks inaccessible. These 2? the layers form the upperpart of the screen.

the lcdscreen with all the electronics in this layer, form the lower part of the screen or if you want, cover. This part is now oke. He also had a condensation of water on it and I was able to gently wipe the little moisture of the lcdscreen without problem. This helped a bit with this problem.

but moisture remains trapped between the part of the touchscreen layer and this layer of glass in the upperpart of the screen/cover.

hoping to evaporate the moisture, I left the enlightened a bit more open for a day, I broke even the upperpart and the lowerpart of the screen. I applied a little of an infrared lamp, a remote backup heat. anything that did not help.

    * so, how can I remove the condensation of water? *

    * is there a way to remove a layer in the upperpart of the screen to reach the humidity? *

    Hello olekike

Please don t get me wrong, but I'm afraid, you need professional with this Mr. help as I see that your question is not answered for days now, and I think that nobody here has a lot of experience with this stuff.
View replacement OK but how to remove the condensation of water on the touchscreen is perhaps too heavy for us.

I recommend strongly to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. talking with the guys what we can do about it.

    Hello!

Can someone tell me how to use the buttonsetting.ini to configure the buttons with the TBSbtnSt.exe.
Best result would be to get the Coursor and Rotation of the display lid buttons to work under Vista.

    Thanks for the tips!
    Jochen greetings

    Hello

On the European driver Toshiba page, you will find all the Vista drivers required for a Portege M400.
There is also a Support Button driver and this driver allows you to customize and TOSHIBA special button preset settings.
There is also a Tablet PC for Vista Extension Package!
This package installs a range of important public services and contains this apclations:

TOSHIBA Rotation utility: Set the orientation of the screen by default as the system to be used in the transition from the PC to Tablet mode, or vice versa.

TOSHIBA Tablet PC buttons driver: You can dedicate the buttons on the tablet to perform common tasks so that you can easily use your tablet PC away from your workstation. For example, you can dedicate a button to open a program or to change the orientation of your screen.

TOSHIBA accelerometer utilities: These utilities are a set of material utilities that work with the integrated motion sensors you machine. With the accelerometer, your machine will be able to detect how you're holding it at one point. You can also take control of the cursor in some applications and move by leaning the PC in a certain direction

  • Portege M400 - how to install utilities for Windows 7 Toshiba?

I have improved my Portege M400 Winows 7 (32 bit), which went well. However, impossible to find out how to get and install the utilities that I included with XP Tablet version.

Can anyone suggest how to get (I understand that they were available for Vista)?

    TIA.

    Kris

    Hello

The Toshiba utilities do you mean are designed only for Windows XP. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, you need only the Toshiba value added Package. This package contains everything you need.

Portege M400 doesn't support Windows 7, but you can try installing the Vista drivers. Most of them are also work on Windows 7.
AFAIK, you must also Support Button Toshiba on this model.

    > I am trying to upgrade to windows 7, but I keep coming with remove the Toshiba HDD protection control panel but I can't locate it in the control panel.

You should look in the control panel-> programs and features

Here you will find all the programs that are installed in Windows Vista. To remove an any of them click the program you want to uninstall and then click Uninstall/change, and follow the prompts.

After Toshiba HDD protection has been uninstalled, you can try to keep up with the upgrade to Windows 7.

  • Portege Z30t - how to disable display backlight?

    Hello

I'm just trying to find how to disable the backlight of the display on my new Z30t.
While the process is always running, just to save energy.

Here, I have the FN keys to put the light upwards or downwards, but they won't back down to zero, and there is no key to stop.
I've had 6 laptops so far, and all had a FN key to turn off the display to save power.
So I'm kind of scratching my head, how to do here.

In addition, I would like to reprogram some FN keys as I don't need FN standby and hibernation.
Could not find information on this topic, also.

    Any idea? Help, please!

    Thanks, Tommy

You can use the FN in order to increase and decrease the backlight of the display, but you can not close the screen completely using these function keys.

If you want to turn off the display after a certain time, I recommend you to change the settings in the Windows power options.

Go to the Control Panel-> Power Options
Select a map page of power, on the left click here, choose when turn off the display.
The parameters of change for the plan page, choose the display settings you want to use for this power plan when your laptop is running on battery and when it is plugged.

  • Portege R400 - how to get the fingerprint device to HDD unlock

    Portege R400 model PPR40E-00901LEN

I've had this laptop since 2007 new (approximately). I put the BIOS and disk passwords HARD and the biometric to unlock the BIOS, HARD and Vista drive. It worked well until recently. Result of an incident when someone tried to crack into the machine, it unlocks is no longer the HARD drive

The attacker confessed to the use of BACKSPACE to work around the footprint digital, correctly guessed the password of BIOS and going on to make several attempts to enter the HDD password.

Now when I try to access the computer by using the fingerprint reader, it unlocks the BIOS ok, so he remembers clearly to me. However, it is not open HARD drive. Apparenlty the fact that 3 + failures to enter the master password disk HARD text forces text of this password and no biometric entry. At least, there seems to be something like that.

    My questions are

    (1) in these circumstances, the BIOS anterio-rite the biometric to forget the HARD drive password?

    (2) or is still piometric my disk HARD but the BIOS password feature is not asking him?

    (3) if 3 or something similar, so this password is always in the biometirc device, how to tell the device to provide this password?

Please note that I can't in the BIOS right now, because do not unlock the HARD drive prevents the POSITION to perform.

Of course, I know what I really need to do is type the HARD drive password. Unfortunately in about four years, I forgot it. I hope that I can get into the BIOS if I remove the HARD drive physically, but wonder if there is something else I should do first in order to avoid making things worse.

    Thanks to hope

We just purchased a portable Satellite Pro S500-10 which has the fingerprint reader. Does anyone know how we can disable this facility of the laptop, we do not remove program only disable the installation.

You can disable it in Device Manager. If it's not ideal, I guess you could send the laptop to an ASP to have the fingerprint reader physically disconnected.

  • Satellite A300 - how to disable the fingerprint

In my A300 using Vista Home laptop request a print whenever I start it, I do not wish to use this feature and I am worried I or a member of my family might accidentally turn on, my question is how can I permanently turn it off, it has so far not summer enabled, thanks for you help.

If this has been posted before that I apologize, but I could not find a previous post...

    Hello

You can try to disable/uncheck software or applications of fingerprints in msconfig-> Startup tab.
This would prevent the software to load automatically when you start the Windows operating system.

In my case, it worked and could turn off the different applications and processes in msconfig.

  • Portege M400 - How can I take it apart?

    Hi all

Im having problems with my second hand M400 heat. Now, the former owner told me that Toshiba has changed the motherboard once.

Given that temperatures are high and the fan runs almost all the time even if theres no CPU usage and its im limited down, thinking the power have made a mistake at the toshibas during reassembly of the unit. Maybe they forgot the screw grease or dindn can't heat from the heatsink down properly or therelike. And the fan dosent sound very healthy compared to my other M400, the elderly.

If someone of you has never disassembled a M400? How do you get on the radiator, top or bottom of the unit? fragile or delicate parts? that I should look out? Y has even a how-to with pictures over there in the depths of the internet? : D

I have built and repaired many workstations, so im quite computer savvy, but on laptops I only changed RAM so far. So im really thankful for all your advice.

    Thank you

    Hello!

I think the best way is to contact you the ASP.

Disassemble a laptop is a bit tricky. You should remove a lot of screws and parts and so this should only be done by a technician of the laptop.

Maybe you can find a work around using Google, but a laptop computer technician can help you more.

    Good bye

  • Portege M800 - how to disable Intel SpeedStep?

    Hi all

can anyone tell me please where to disable Intel SpeedStep in BIOS of my Portege M800? I have already updated to the latest version 4.80 but I can't yet find a related Intel SpeedStep option.

    Best regards

    Dante

    Hello

Why you want to disable SpeedStep? I mean that's a feature and not a bug ;)
SpeedStep can improve the performance of your laptop, because the CPU will be a little more overclocked card motherboard/BIOS if you run programs of high CPU usage. So that s nice

If you want to disable, you must do in Windows power management if you can find t such an option in the BIOS.
