Portege R100 - BIOS can't see 1.8 inch 2 GB PCMCIA HDD

Hello
I have laptop TOSHIBA PORTEGE R100, I wanted to reinstall win XP using PCMCIA HDD (MK2001MPL).

It is easily detectable by Windows XP, but it is not detected by my BIOS v 1.3 (I changed the boot priority).
I should mention that I formatted FAT32 and saved, copied, but it still does not work. Is it possible to start the PCMCIA HDD with BIOS, or I can use it just as internal HDD.
There may be special driver or another method to solve my problem.

Waiting for response, any advice would be helpful...

Hello

the problem is that the HARD drive is not supposed to act as a normal player. It s, more an extension and I'm not sure I have it would actually work in the BIOS as you describe.
I think that it wouldn work because the HARD drive need a driver that is not given when just the BIOS is loaded. BIOS loads network PCMCIA cards, but I've never heard of a PCMCIA HDD which was used as a bootable disk. Maybe USB but no PC Card.

IMHO, I think you should drop your thoughts on using the card as a bootable drive and use it as a normal internal memory expansion.

In the opposite case: google is your friend :)

Welcome them

  • Portege R100 - I can reinstall Windows XP Home edition with USB floppy & USB key?

I recently damaged my R100 thanks to a virus attack. Despite late cleaning things up with Norton, it will now very slowly and I think that the only way forward is through a total reinstall XP.

I have the original recovery CD and a USB floppy drive but not a PCMIA CD-ROM. As luck would have my USB CDRom is broken. How can I get out of this situation? I'm about to throw an old desk and would be happy to use the XP retail on the R100, if necessary. It is also possible to start the format & install process from a startup disk, and then most of the OS from a USB - having previously filled with copies of the contents of the CD? Desperate people make desperate methods!

I've read a few other discussions on recovery XP issues but they are not entirely coincident with my situation. Any help on this front would be very welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can get the installation on the R100 HARD disk files using a FAT32 partition, you can install Windows from the HARD drive after booting from a bootable MS-DOS floppy. (MSDOS can not see NTFS drives).

You can use a 1.8 "adapter HARD USB drive to copy the installation files on the disk HARD R100 from another PC. The adapter would be cheap.

  • BIOS does not see SSD - Dell Latitude D630

    Hello

I have been using the old, but still quite fast Dell D630. Lately, I decided to replace the HDD with SSD - SP800 Adata first, and the Bios can't see it.

I installed the latest version of the Bios, tried changing the settings to AHCI, etc... but without any effect. Can anyone help?

I checked the SSD in my stationary computer and it works.

    Thank you

    Hi caton17,

I suggest you to check if the SSD is installed in the drive Bay and the dimensions of the SSD. Reinstall the drive and check if it is detected in the BIOS.

  • Portege R100: Can't see dvd external drive

I just installed a new internal 40 GB hard drive in my portege r100, I partitioned the drive and formatted. I also installed the latest version of the bios (I think it is 1.6) but I can not now install XP to dvd because the portege r100 do not see the dvd drive external usb which I think is a LITE-ON 8 x

    Any suggestions?

Using the supplied with the machine recovery CD? Also the machine will only start on a TOSHIBA USB dvd player. If it is not made by Toshiba, you will not be able to boot from it. Sorry

  • Update BIOS Portege R100

    Hi all!

I want to update the bios of my Portege R100, I downloaded this trought this site:

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU

unzipped and started install2.exe but I receaved this error:

"* [Error] BIOS update is failed. "BIOS is not able, updated on this configuration."

    Windows xp sp2
    No installed external device

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    Hello

You can download another version of the same-update bios here:

    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soID=1153942&MOID=385411&RPN=P PR10U

This file contains more information on the execution of the update, see the readme file
You can do an update directly in XP or make a bootable floppy or bootable CD

If the "live update" in XP does not work, you will need at least a key-USB-fdd, most of them is easily recognized by the bios (hold F12 during startup and choose the fdd)

  • Portege R100 and Linux - function keys not working do not and the latest version of the BIOS?

    Hello world

I have a Portege R100 (PPR10L-13G10P). I am trying to install Linux and when you try to access function keys (F6) the computer does not allow me to... no idea why?

Also, what is the latest version of BIOS for this computer? And where it can be downloaded?

    Thanks in advance!

    Terrence

    Hello

At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux in general if you are alone with this problem.
I hope that someone will be able to help you a bit.
If you want to discover the latest version of the BIOS, just enter the BIOS settings and check it out.
BIOS version latest won't help you at all, so my opinion is that you shouldn't change anything.

Anyway, the bio download page is - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp

The feature keys F is supported by special tool Windows and it only works on Windows.

  • Portege R100 - can I configure it to WPA/WPA2?

My Portege R100 is an Intel (r) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter, which is configurable for WEP only. Can someone tell me if I can improve it so that it is configurable for WPA/WPA2, please?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I checked the specifications of this WLAN card on the Intel site and it seems that this cap card WLAN key be configured for WPA.

In any case, is that you've updated the driver for the WIRELESS network and the BIOS card? Two updates that you can find on the Toshiba site.

  • Seagate drive in the BIOS but can't see it in the file manager

Earlier this week, I installed a Solid State Drive as my boot drive. It works very well. I want to use 2 TB Seagate that came with my Inspiron 3847 as backup devices (slave) and I also want to take 10 Windows out of it. I can see the drive in device (drive 1) Manager and in the BIOS (SATA 2), but I can't see it in the file manager so I can reformat the drive. This particular model (ST2000DM001-1ER64) has no jumpers to set it as a slave drive. Seagate said it is automatic. I am stuck as to how I solve this problem. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi ssd user,.

    Happy new year!

There is no such thing as master or slave with SATA drives. Try to go to disk management, search your drive and check if a drive letter has been attributed to it. I suspect that you must select a drive letter, then it should appear in the file Explorer.

  • Can't see bios

    Hi all

    Help, please!

I think that I have problems with the PCI Express card, I went into the BIOS and chose the on the graphics of the disabled the option PCI card. Now when I boot I just get a blank screen to watch! I don't remember exactly what I did because I can't see the BIOS screen.

My PC is HP Media Center m7000 m7755UK version. CZX707MRSJ S/N, running VISTA

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

Your PC is listed as having a 300W Power Supply Unit, which does not limit the choices a bit.  However the Nvidia GT440 specifications would be Ok with this and an example of the map is available here.

The only thing that I would recommend when ordering this device or a similar card is just to check with the retailer that the card is suitable for a PC with a power of 300W specifications vary.

    Kind regards

  • Portege R100 does not start

Can someone help me please. My Portege R100 does not start, when I turn the following text appears: in touch with tomorrow toshiba. After a few seconds a black screen with a blinking cursor on the left side of the screen.

    Thank you very much

    Hi Rehana,

The Toshiba screen you will see first is the initial start screen is displayed while loading the BIOS. Once the BIOS has completed its process of loading, the system tries to boot the operating system and it is at this point that you have found the black screen with the blinking cursor in the upper left.

Unfortunately, this indicates usually that the laptop can not load the operating system from the hard drive, or because the hard disk itself has not the contents have been damaged somehow.

You might try to charge your laptop in 'safe' mode (press F8 during the initial loading of the BIOS) or you can try to boot your laptop from a bootable CD/DVD and hard drive.

Finally, you can try to re - install your OS from the recovery CD.

    Kind regards

  • Portege R100 install XP on the replacement drive

    Help, please

My hard drive in my R100 went bad and I replaced it and it became a nightmare to install XP.

I spent 2 days on this subject, and I can't break! I have the original Toshiba USB floppy drive that can be accessed by cell phone and a desktop USB external CD/DVD drive mounted in a USB chassis. It's the Sony DRU - 540A. I tried everything on this forum and it does not work.

I copied the I386 folder in the C: / once I'd fdisk and formatted it and when windows was running from the CD it came to try to find the asms file. When I run the Portege R100 Recovery Bootdisk V1.1.zip he can see my Cd/DVD drive however the virtual D: it creates, causing the PC to freeze when I run Windows NT.

Please help because it's pretty darn painful!

    Thanks Brendan

Why would you copy the files from the CD to your HARD drive? To install an operating system, in your case Windows XP just boot from the CD and follow the instructions given by the installation routine.

You can change the priority of booting into the BIOS settings, or by pressing the C key laptop start upward.
