  • Dell powerEdge t420, server windows 2008 R2, RAID5, partitioning problem

    Hello

    [Dell powerEdge t420, windows 2008 R2, RAID5 Server]

I have attached the picture of disk management.

    There are

1 extended partition in which it is

1 NTFS logical volume that completely fill the extended partition.

But there is a small green free space 0 MB.

    Is this normal?

Thanks for the info. I have install.

    I reinstalled the operating system

and in OS partitioning step installation

    There were:

a 1 Mb extended partition, then the logical partition.

I deleted all and create 2 primary partition (1 for the Os) and 1 for DATA.

    I solved it.

    But I don't know if

is the best performing primary or logical partition.

  • Adding a new Hot Swap HDD to a PowerEdge T420

My server T420 currently switchable 3-hot hard drives installed and I intend to install 2 hard drives hot swap. The server has ESXi 5.1 and I am looking for the instructions for this process. The plan is to turn off the server, install the new HDD and reconfigure the BIOS to power for hard drives new. Is the installation process for the similar server to our plan or very different?

    Shad515,

You can stop the server, but it is not necessary since you have hot swappable hard drives. While in THE RAID controller BIOS, simply insert drives into available slots. Hard drives will appear in a 'READY' State At this point, you have to reconfigure your virtual disk as needed.

  • Configuration of Raid PowerEdge T420 script

I have over 200 T420 servers to deploy. I need an automated solution to define the RAID parameters and bios in Imaging. I'm new to Dell servers and exhausted with the search for an answer. I normally deploy images very simply using MDT to PE in the House and pure for field technicians. Could someone help utility Dell, script Powershell or vbscript?

    Gsanders662,

The tool you need is called DODT (Dell OpenManage Deployment Toolkit), which you can find here. This will speed up deployment of servers. You can find more information about it here, or get the guide of the user here.

Let me know how it goes.

  • T420: H310 PERC Setup driver during the installation of Windows 2008 R2 SP1

    Hello

I try to install the SP1 of Windows 2008 R1 on T420. However, it does not detect the disk and asks me to load the Setup disk.

Now, I downloaded the driver from: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=1HHG8&fileId=3389750350&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-t420&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SF

Put it on a key USB and then the wizard to detect the USB but then he said: 'no signed device drivers were found.

Reading carefully above the driver download page, they mentioned the installation instructions, it is shown how to load the driver during installation.

HOWEVER, the real problem lies here. These instructions are for a '. '. ZIP format"driver. Considering that, they provide only ".". EXE format"from the driver to download.

So, regardless of teaching the highest page download driver to load the driver during the installation does not work.

And I could not find where to download the '. '. ZIP format' driver.

Could you help me please. What I'm missing here?

    Thank you.

    You must use this driver:
    http://ftp.Dell.com/FOLDER01460337M/9/SAS-RAID_Driver_R2_4R5XT_A03_6.801.5.0_ZPE.exe

Run it to extract the content, then put the content on a USB flash drive to use during the installation.

  • Is there a Windows Server 2012 as an operating system option, somewhere in the options for t420?

I just got my PowerEdge t420, it's my first tower, in fact my first 'real' server other server like before I just used an old pc to run all my necessary tasks in the network.

I discovered a few minutes ago that I should install the operating system through F10 (lifecycle controller), so I timed "deploy the operating system", but I can't find a "Microsoft Windows Server 2012", I should then click on "any other operating system" or I do something wrong? I know that it supports MW Server 2012 I had an option to buy a 2012 OS Server pre-installed, but I decided to get clean so I can learn basic on how to start up, but I can't find the option.

    Appreciate the response

In fact, without going into the details, the 2012 option has been removed from the LC with latest driver (v7.2.0) packs, it will be added at the beginning of April with the 7.2.1 version packs driver OS (not SUU)

  • T420 Raid Driver issues

    Hello

I have a PowerEdge T420 that I am trying to install Win2012 R2 - completely empty, yet had no operating system.  During installation, Windows cannot find the hard drives to the target.  What is expected, and I saw it on other systems before.  The solution has been to provide the drivers for the internal Raid Controller, which then allows me to set up the installation.

Unfortunately, I have tried all the entries "Driver" under SAS RAID on this list:

    www.Dell.com/.../drivers

But unfortunately, none of them are up: whenever I insert the CD with them, the installer says there is no signed the disk drivers.

So what do I do next?  It's a T420 and all the berries have readers, and they are supposed to be a RAID.  Don't know what else to do.

    Thank you

    M.

EDIT: I also tried the "drivers for OS deployment.  No luck.

What RAID controller the drives are connected to? Server R2 2012 should have drivers for all RAID controllers in a T420 except the S110. Know also that H710 RAID REQUIRES to be configured and initialized BEFORE that Windows can see all disks (it does NOT support non-RAID).

  • Hyper-V slow network

Dell PowerEdge T420, Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V installed and one configuration of virtual machine 2008 R2 in the Hyper-V environment. Two network cards on the T420 are connected to the same Gigabit switch, one for the use of the physical machine and the other for the virtual network.

The only thing that is made in the virtual machine of desktop Services remotely, then end users into running a program of medical records that accesses a database on completely separate server. The physical server just Hyper-V, a domain controller and DNS.

With no activity, ping'ing the prompt of the physical machine or vice versa or a separate database of the guest PC server, we have less than 1 ms response time. However, if there is no activity in the guest OS, ping times vary drastically - between 1 and ms 200 ms.

I have different power cuts disabled virtual network adapters properties, but this does not seem to make a difference. Looking at the monitor of resources on the VMS, there is generally less than 5% of the CPU and 10 percent of the memory used, and the network traffic when the application is running is less than 100 Kbps (usually less than 50 Kbps).

On the physical server, the CPU traffic & network are basically the same as the virtual machine, with 80 percent of the memory used (since it is all attributed to Hyper-V).

Any thoughts on how to solve the slow networking?

    Thanks in advance!

The solution to the problem is revealed to be...

Broadcom NICs in Dell servers have a "Tails of Virtual Machine" which is by default enabled setting. Once disabled, the guest operating system has the same network as the physical machine speed.

  • Upgrade to the HW support

    Hello

We have a PowerEdge T420 with Windows SBS 2011. We want to upgrade the hardware in a rack mountable machine. Could we buy a naked (without BONE) rack mountable machine and transfer its T420 licenses to the new machine and our Windows SBS 2011?

If possible, which is the best way to transfer the OS? Thanks to the restoration of a full backup of the new machine?

SBS come preinstalled on the T420 Dell?

If not and you have purchased the license separately, then Yes you can move it to another machine.

If so, this OEM for SBS license cannot be transferred to another machine.

You could buy another SBS license for the new machine, or another option:

    http://disctech.com/Dell-332-0331-PowerEdge-T420-tower-to-rack-conversion-kit

You can simply do a restore of backup and bare metal on a new computer to move.

  • Lack of OS Driver Pack

I have a PowerEdge T420 and try to install the operating system. I configured everything through Setup of the life cycle.

When I get the opportunity to deploy the operating system, an error comes up saying "failed to retrieve the list of operating systems supported (SWC0015). I did upgrade the Firmware path and chose the operating system driver package, after the download, the following error occurs: "unable to install Update Packages. (SUP0531).

All other firmware and software has updated successfully, except for the operating system driver Package. I'm stuck because I can't get an OS installed on this server.

    Hello mikeymol1

I just installed the latest driver pack (7.4.0.14) OS on a R720XD to make sure that there is no problem. It installed for me.

Try to install the web interface to iDRAC. Connect to the built-in web server iDRAC via the IP address of the iDRAC and go to the iDRAC > update and restore in the left pane. You can perform updates using Windows 32 bit Dell Update Packages here. Download this file to your computer, and then access it. It will download the file from your computer to the ECA (lifecycle controller strengthened). Once the download is complete, choose to install it.

  • Dell OpenManage, ESXi 5.1 & reconstruction of bays RAID online

I am owner of a Dell PowerEdge T420 with ESXi 5.1 installed and I was wondering if it is possible to rebuild a RAID array without having to restart the server.

I was under the assumption that the use of Dell OpenManage running on Windows Server together with the Dell OMSA VIB would allow management of virtual disks when the system is online.

I am able to see the State of health of the RAID via OpenManage arrays, but can't seem to perform management of tables.

I was mistaken in that assumption?

    Jmartincic,

You can simply reinstall the failed drive to start a regeneration. In the OMSA with ESXi graphical user interface, it's only a tool of surveillance. You cannot trigger something from him, although only with regard to the controller.

  • Need driver for PERC H310

    Hello dell and community!

I never thought that I need to contact the community to the problem. However, now the day has come. Before describing the problem, I must say that your hardware and software provided is very good and I'm happy to use your equipment.

I needed to install windows server 2003 x 86-based PowerEdge T420 (serial number: B4 * 2). I am well aware that this server is not designed for this operating system. Unfortunately, available only on a server and the decision of the tasks it involves the use of a dedicated server windows 2003 x 86 (used for the automation of industry), that is to say without virtualization.

    I found these instructions here:
    en.Community.Dell.com/.../3846.How-to-install-Windows-2003-on-Dell-12th-Generation-PowerEdge-Servers
I have done it. However, after the installation of windows server 2003 x 86 me when with the logo displays BSOD (0x0000007b, ATA SATA mode is selected in the BIOS). Third party connection LiveUSB showed that shocks, unfortunately, are not created, even if I choose an option by pressing F8 before starting the system.

I think that I stocked up on a bad driver for H310 flash drive, but there are doubts about this.

USB stick with the driver for the appeared H310 tool

NOTE from the ADMIN: Broken link has been removed / replaced this post by Dell >; l = en & s = gen & driverid = R140774

    The driver downloaded from here:
    www.avagotech.com/.../MegaRAID-SAS-9240-8i
The MegaRAID SAS - XP x 86 signed, Version 4.32.0.32 driver name (in fact, I tried several different drivers, but for me it did not help).

But, because of this doubt, if I choose to boot from a LiveUSB and point the driver like on a flash drive by utility Dell USB key F6 Driver utility, the sections are connected and well I can handle. LiveUSB, by the way, is based on Server 2003.

Help me please. Apparently there is no relevant information, many files are not available, I've read these instructions here:

What are the steps I take to performance windows server 2003?
Thank you in advance, your team is great!

First of all, I strongly suggest that you buy a server used on eBay or your local classifieds.

Second, I suggest you that allows you to integrate the driver of your installation instead of the USB/F6 function media puff nLiteOS.com. (Integrate SP2 if not already included while you're there - the drivers might need SP2.)

Are you sure that your "industry automation' may not work on a virtual platform? Many will work.
