PowerVault MD3000 to swap MD1000 controller card possible?

Hi all

We have a few MD3000s end of LIFE that we want to reuse for other purposes. Is it possible to simply replace the MD3000 with ones MD1000 controller card and assign a MD1000 essentially? The reason why we must do, it is because we can buy the slower red Western Digital disks that will work for our needs and with the MD3000 we are locked into buying Dell brand readers. I understand that we need a perc 5 or 6 card as well.

Thanks for the help

Sorry for the delay, the JT517 is the most recent part number. These are the same just part the JT517 is a more recent reference number and it was used to replace HN240.

Usually, you take NIC 1 gb connections available on your host and configure them as such.

2 network cards go to the San, most of the time that it is actually two networks with different subnets.

    1 network card next LAN

1 network card for the management

We only use three network cards currently on our guests, 2 for San and the other for management and lan. We use two switches dedicated to dedicated networks dual iSCSI san. This allows to easily add additional hosts in the future.

You get to decide a bit, but the double san network is pretty much a given. You can do all this of course with the VLANs as well. We use the switches unmanaged yet in our Organization.

PS: Passing path recommended is to have completely isolated storage of the LAN network / network of the user.

  • I have a 'C' IDE drive failure I have a SATA drive connected via a PCI-SATA controller card. I want to change from hard disk IDE 'C' on the SATA drive. What are the steps to achieve this?

Running Windows XP Home, I want to change hard drive as described above.

As a result, I have a USB hard drive, which I copied the hard drive of the original 'C', before it fails altogether.

Is it possible to copy this USB drive on my SATA hard drive and have as my primary hard drive?
Keeping in mind of the SATA hard drive, connected via a PCI-SATA controller card.

Unless your third sata card supports the option to boot from this map, its not going to work. Not all sata cards are bootable.

  • R720 can I connect drive sas/sata hard without controller card?

I have a r720 without raid card.  When I plug a ssd or disc of 15 k / 10 k sas on the hotswap backplane, chassis recognizes the drive is connected (I get an orange light and lcd to alert that the disc is removed when I go out).  However, the bios and the operating system does not recognize any disks hotswap (they see only the optical drive connected to the ports on the motherboard sata.

Do I need a controller card to use drives connected on the backplane, or is it possible to use backplane without controller card?  I didn't need raid functionality.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Shane

    ntshane
Do I need a controller card to use drives connected on the backplane, or is it possible to use backplane without controller card?  I didn't need raid functionality.

Yes, you must have a controller connected to the bottom of basket. If you have purchased the system without a RAID controller should have a SAS cable that goes from the backplane to the slot of controller S110 chipset on the system board.

You can use the S110 SATA controller on board for communication with backplane. Well, there are limits to the S110 controller, so may not suit your needs. You can probably buy LSI 9207 if you want readers to run in a non-RAID. The other options are a H710 PERC; which you can set the readers to the single drive RAID 0 s. In this State, they function as drives no RAID. You can also get a H310. The H310 supports the RAID mode, but we have added a few features to the H310 who do not find in previous versions of the card. In doing so, it reduced performance when operating in a mode non-RAID.

The reason why I say that you'll probably want another controller than the S110 is because you mentioned that you have SAS disks. The S110 is a single SATA controller. In addition, the S110 is supported up to 4 discs.

To access the BIOS RAID make sure the S110 is turned on in THE system BIOS. In the BIOS, go to SATA settings. In the menu choose the RAID mode. It will turn on the S110 controller. You can configure the drives in the BIOS S110 when booting with the CTL R. I do not know what operating system, you perform the installation, but the S110 is compatible with Windows.

    Thank you

I bought a chip Samsung SSD of 951 m2, discovered that I need a host controller card for it, got one, installed the assembly and found out that it is not recognized as a mass storage device, or a disk, or anything else, but a Council NVMe and only in System Profiler. I'd rather than PCIe PCI for this purpose.

HP liked SIIG for a number of their SATA PCI slot cards.  SIIG has updaters for these maps on its web site, and the pilots understand place in Windows 8.  Here's what I recommend if you want to only two new SATA internal ports:

    http://h30094.www3.HP.com/product.aspx?SKU=3062195&mfg_part=SC-SAT212-S4&pagemode=CA

There is also a card HP SIIG eSATA that HP has used, and I have also used that... it worked great.  It has two eSATA ports and no port SATA internal:

    http://h30094.www3.HP.com/product.aspx?cache=2012565552&culture=en-us&SKU=2850719

In addition, you can connect a single SATA hard drive on an eSATA port (the reader would need external power supply) for formatting, etc.  For that you need a cable with eSATA on one end and a connector type SATA internal regular on others... it is so much easier than to open the box and play with the internal cables.  The best quality I've found for those who are Macgurus.com or Granitedigital.com.  Opt for a shorter (1 m) rather than a longer therefor version if you choose to do so, in order to reduce the risk of interference (which I have never seen this):

Macgurus told them are indicated for the generation SATA I, II and III, and they are a little cheaper for a length of 1 m of the granite.  Both are excellent companies.

Finally, there is a HP SIIG PCI with combined eSATA/SATA, with a player external eSATA and SATA port internal:

    http://h30094.www3.HP.com/product.aspx?SKU=2850718&mfg_part=SC-SA1012-S1&pagemode=CA

I'd stick with HP SIIG solutions and probably buy directly from HP for this unless you can find the same for much less expensive on eBay.  The cards have had several revisions, and I think that if you get your HP, you would later.

It shouldn't matter what type of card you are using. Personally I use the type of legacy PCI slot, given that several of them.

As it is a workstation HP Business class, I would suggest using the HP Enterprise Business Forum. The Forum of business people are much more familiar with the company's products.

  • Possible to use the IDE controller card in ESXi 4.0

I have a lot of hard disks IDE that I would use in my ESXi host, but I don't have a motherboard all IDE interface is SATA and I have the DVD player plugged into that. There are more available on this cable plug, but it is unusable as a result of the configuration of the necessary training and the fact that the right ribbon cable won't reach it. So I took an old PCI Ultra ATA/133 (ITE IT8212 ATA Raid Controller) and plugged into a slot available PCI and then attached to one of my IDE drives... But when I rebooted, it is not found on the system. So I looked around, and it seems that these cards are not supported? Go figure. If these cards are not supported, then I'm looking for a really intelligent person who has found a way to make these devices run. Correct me if I'm wrong, but VMWare seems to have decided to simply drop all legacy devices together... Why? Is he really consider a lot to allow older device drivers? Yes, I'm just a user trying to do something my old camera, so I understand that I am part of a very limited audience which is not the target. However, I am also pushing my virtualization Initiative at work and am just getting up ESXi on one of our older PowerEdge servers with plans to do the same thing on our new r710 if bosses are satisfied by tests on the former, and my house already tests helped me identify some limitations of the equipment of PE2800 at work , and I think they would also attract large scale as possible.

For the laboratory and home, try the steps in VM-HELP - install ESXi 4.0 on an IDE drive.

Drivers for ESX (i) support software (also known as false) as the MC55 RAID controllers.  If you need RAID you will have to go with a hardware RAID card.

As the title suggests, I have an early 2009 Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM.

I want to update my graphics card to something better and I have no idea of what I put in the card. Ideally, I would like to put the last possible graphics card that is compatible for this.

I don't know what I would look for PCI or PCI - e and what diet I would look for that would support such a computer "arcane".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Best wishes

the 2009 mac 4.1 pro can be upgraded to a number of current spare cards from Nvidia and AMD, but in many cases the cards require custom flashing of the Distributor and custom drivers. You need to buy a card with a distributor of mac because versions "Windows" of these cards will not work out of the box and OS X will not support without 3rd party drivers. This procedure is not recommended by apple that would rather you buy a new mac pro and again I want to say something for $5K, which offers the latest GPU is already 3 years old.

research on the Web "Mac Pro 4.1 GPU" for more details.
