Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates to be downloaded or installed

I spent the last day trying to solve this problem.  I started with critical updates that should be applied.  I tried to run windows update in order to install, but it still fails.  When I'm going to update the story it shows no failure so I can not get the error message.  I visited the Microsoft Update Solution Center and tried on the two recommendations of the article on the updates failed.  http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/943144 none worked.  I tried running the FixIt bound in another post on this forum and it did not fix it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058.  Running out of idea of here.  I appreciate any support.

I am running Windows XP SP3

WinXP SP3, not to mention SP2 should be installed years ago!

If you're still under WinXP SP1, you cannot have a functional installed anti-virus application so follow these steps:

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

computer automatically starts in safe mode without prompting, a problem with your computer can prevent Windows to start normally

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If the system restore does not work, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

  • If a logging program button has been installed on your computer performs this Act of when it is installed or is able to access the previous use of the keys?

    Hello

I received an email from a friend that I opened, it has since informed me that his computer has been hacked and thought that a virus has been incorporated into the e-mail. I have a limited knowledge of computers and would like to know if a logging program button has been installed it reads the keys historically or only from when it has been installed? Also, I found that a user account and password that I had not placed on the computer had been set and the user account setting that governs the installation of new programs was at a minimum level.

I deleted the new user account and password and changed the UAC to the highest setting and did a scan of my computer using AVGfree, he showed a threat of conduitinstaller.exe but it would allow me to delete or archive. A search on the internet about this program shows that it is a threat, this page: http://www.removeonline.com/conduitinstaller-exe/ offers to download a tool to remove it, but I am now worried I'm going beyond my capabilities. Could I have some advice please. I'm currently travelling so don't have do not have access to a friendly computer shop is where English is spoken.
If I do all the work financial online from the computer in safe mode, this will get me in until I can get the problem sorted.
