Problem connecting, Win 7, WPA - PSK (computer think it's WEP). Managed to substitute, but now very unstable connection.

Hello, I use Windows 7 to my computer. Here wireless signal is encrypted with WPA - PSK TKIP, but my computer could not register as such (he believes that its WEP). I managed to force it to connect, by manually adjusting for WPA - PSK with TKIP (and the correct password) in the control panel.

However, the connection is extremely unstable. Often, he simply stops working, although the icon says that there is a link. (Note that this window of available connection has a large red cross next to the signal, because he claims that the settings do not match. He just logs occasionally when I start).

I wonder if there is a way to solve this annoying problem. I don't know what is causing the computer to see the signal as WEP, when it clearly is WPA - PSK.

Oh, I found what I think, it is the router in the basement: that said on it: Motorola SBS101E.

PS: I'm not good on the technical stuff (although I understand basic concepts such as network card drivers, etc., don't ask me not to disable or install a protocol without walking me through the steps).

Thank you!

As I wrote, your problem is probably related to the adapter wireless in your office. Maybe it's as simple as that requires an updated driver, but it remains to be seen.

Result of your ipconfig is quite surprising.  Because you are in a university environment, if we cannot identify a problem with your wireless adapter, you may be able to request assistance from the University of the it Department.  See also comments below on the VPN.

Here - is more as a matter of interest than anything else - what some of your settings mean:

Wireless network adapter

  • Your card is a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC (Realtek RTL8188CE 1 x 1 11 b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter, which seems to be installed on Lenovo ThinkPads).
  • Your card is automatically assigned (usually by the wireless router, but see below) an IP address of 10.92.129.20.  This address is part of what is called a 'Class A' network, which is generally only used by very large organizations (for example, a University).  This suggests that this wireless network is from University wireless access point rather than a router connected to the modem cable into your basement.

So it is possible that the antenna on your desktop computer wireless card is not in as good a place as your laptop computer to receive the signal. It's especially if your office uses a built-in wireless adapter, with the antenna at the back of the computer under a desk and near a wall. If you try USB wireless adapter for your desktop computer (or an antenna on an extension cord) move the antenna near a window, if possible.

  • The 'default gateway' for this connection (the address of the wireless router) is 10.92.128.1, which is in the same class A network.
  • The DHCP server (which is what affects your IP address card) is 195.130.132.102.  It is a public IP address belonging to Telenet/Pandora, a Belgian Internet service provider.  In almost all wireless home networks, the DHCP server is part of the router, so your situation is very different.

Virtual private network (VPN)
What complicates your Internet connection is the fact that you seem to be using a VPN. This is identified as the 'card Ethernet Hamachi.' I saw many posts complaining that the Hamachi software interferes with various other network connections.  For example:

After the installation of LogMeIn Hamachi, my continuous wireless network connection disconnected from the internet every few minutes. The wireless connection is ok, but trying to access the internet, I get a message to reset the connection.

Once I got disabling the network Hamachi (Control Panel-> network) connection and Internet-> network connections, everything is back to normal.

It happens on two different routers, then the router is probably not the problem.

This happens with the wired connection.

I use Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 64 Bit, Hamachi 2.0.3.89, Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN.

LINK

This is beyond my area of expertise.  If you are unable to determine a driver (or hardware) problem with your adapter wireless and you have installed Hamachi VPN software on your desktop and your laptop, assuming that you really need, you need to get help from the support service of some entity required or recommended use of Hamachi VPN software.

  • Update to Win 8 Pro on Dell - used the extra features Add - key function but now is rejected

    Hello

I bought a Dell XPS with Win 8 pre installed computer and key in the BIOS.

I needed features of Windows 8 Pro, so I bought a retail dvd.

When I pop the disk in the Dell to do a fresh install... it fails. I think it's because the activation key which is located in the BIOS is set to the version 8 to win and will not let me install the Windows 8 Pro.

So what I was thinking was I could go to add Windows 8 features. It asks for a product key. I get the product key provided with the pro Win 8 of retail disc.  It worked and it comes and goes.  For some reason, the computer crashed. Ok. Rebooted the machine. When I go back to the features add Windows 8 and add the product key, it is now rejected.

I have a few questions that I hope that you can answer:

    1. is my activation key pro 8 victory at retail now invalid? Shouldn't be able to reuse the key for new installations? He is always on the same machine.

    2. someone with experience with the installation of win 8 pro on a Dell computer with the ordinary 8 Win on the Bios?

I installed clean installs of Windows many times, but never on a Dell computer. so I am frustrated he gave me these questions.

    Thank you!

8 win was preinstalled with the Dell XPS.

I have a full retail version of DVD to win 8 pro.

It was very weird. If I stop the machine because I dropped. Came back to her and did a few more things. Then I got frustrated by the 'led' search somehow got installed and removed.

This required a reset. While she has been reset, it said that it was the application of updates.  Ok. It was weird.

After the reboot, I checked the version of windows, and it is indeed the Windows 8 Pro version.

So what's happened? I do not know. I can't explain it.

This is not a update product key. It is a full commercial product key.

I don't know why it took days and several reboots before something kicks and managed to install from Microsoft.

    I wish I can explain it. I can't.

But thanks for the quick response and offer help.

  • Computer thinks I have no disk space left (but I certainly do)

I had a problem with my computer for a while now. When I played video games or something like that, my computer would freeze occasionally and I hold down the power button just to turn off and on again. Last month, my computer showed that I don't have a disk space on my C drive. He dragged about 150 MB to 250 MB or more. I started uninstalling programs and games. He said that I have no disk space. I uninstalled literally all the games except one and there wasn't any change. Earlier, I uninstalled a program which was about 180 MB. Under properties on my drive C he said I won approximately 180 MB. But when I closed and open upward in then up to 150 MB when it was in the range 500 previously. I do drive cleaning all the time and trouble they free up more of a MB. How can I solve this problem? My computer becomes more and more useless every day.

  • Cannot connect to a WPA - PSK with WLAN DW1520 Wireless-N particular, but can when no security is set to wireless. How can I get the card to use WPA - PSK?

I have a DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini card in an Alienware M17X10. I am trying to connect my home through a TRENDNet TEW-435BRM access DSL issue in WPA - PSK.

I was able to get the card to use the accounts wireless WPA2-PSK and WPA - PSK in other areas is not a problem directly related to WPA - PSK.

I can get it to connect to the network when the diffuse TRENDnet without security (free release) and when directly plugged into the wireless router, cable - but every time I go to dissemination of WPA - PSK it can't connect?

While in WPA - PSK the WLAN card can 'see' the network and wireless router can see the 'computer' (and is a 'trust machine'). I have one couple of other previous model Dells connected to the network without problem or needed changes if any ideas why I would have questions here?

  • WPA2-psk vs wpa - psk?

    Hello

What is the strongest? Please go to the order:

    1 - WEP 64-bit

    2 - WEP 128 bit

    3 - WPA - PSK

    4-WPA2-PSK

    5 - WPA - PSK / WPA2-PSK

And which one I should use:

    1 AES

    2 TKIP

    Hello

What security / authentication method that you choose depends on whether or not the network and devices that attempts to connect to the network of the said charge method where you want to. For example, not all devices support connection and WPA2-PSK authentication you will need to use WPA - PSK, etc..

WEP is by far the weakest, and in today's security standards I would never recommend using it. Use the WPA2-PSK with AES if your network and devices supported. If this is not the case, go back to TKIP. WPA2-PSK is out of the question altogether due to device restrictions and or network, use WPA - PSK with AES / TKIP.

AES offers encryption, however not all devices support it. TKIP is a little less strong in terms of encryption, but is widely supported by many devices on the market.

    Kind regards

  • WPA - PSK connection problem

My new HP mini can connect to my router, if she has no protection.  When I got to the shelter with WPA - PSK and I put the password and everything, my mini HP cannot connect.  All parameters are good, so I don't know what could be the problem...  The router name when I look for an internet connection, but it will not just connect - and it does not give an error message.  I know the router is working, because my desktop computer can connect to it very well.  You simply suggests having the router with no protection, but I do not exactly as if other people use, it's going slowly.

Any suggestion or help or anything that could possibly solve my problem would be greatly appreciated (and the real problem is that I want to connect my computer HP mini to the router when the router has some sort of protection, which must not be WPA - PSK)

    Thank you.

Well, I said to my brother (very good with computers) on the problem, and he said that it was the operating system, and whether you have reinstall windows XP or get Ubuntu.  I ended up getting ubuntu that I didn't have a CD Player for the HP mini.  Now he can connect to WPA and it works fine.  So I think that my brother was it's the operating system.

I hope this info helps people!

P.S. - If you get Ubuntu, it runs 10 times faster, and it supports a large number of windows aps - this is my first time using Ubuntu and it RULES!

If you don't know how to get ubuntu top, follow this-

I like it much more, because you can't get adware - literally, as ubuntu works aps .exe (although with a program called wine)

  • WPA - PSK, BEFW11SA, can not connect the computer to the network

When I enable security wireless mode WPS Pre - Shared Key, algorithm, TKIP, a 9-character key and key group og renewal 3600 and then configure the computer, the computer is not connected to internet, even if the connection is recognized.

When I created my Linksys BEFW11SA with "Wireless security" disabled, my computer has no problem connecting to the internet.

Somehow, I'm sure that the problem is related to the configuration of the WPS, but I don't know what to do.

I run XP sp 3. Router firmware version is 1.50.11, which I think is the last update (1.50.13 in mentioned on the home page of Linksys, but the corresponding version notes give the 1.50.11 version) the router does not have common WPS - PSK option with XP, so I couldn't try to use WPA2 or other options.

    Can someone please help?

    / JanB

You tried the WPA key on your router and still it dosent work, you tried to secure your network using the WEP password. If it isn't then you can try settings WEP key password on your router and check if you are getting connected to your network on your laptop or not.

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...
For wireless settings, follow these steps: -.
    Click on the Wireless tab

    For wireless security: -.
Click the sub-tab under wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the mode of WEP wireless security, encryption must be 64-bit. Let the empty password, do not type in anything... Under type of WEP Key 1 in all 10 numbers please (numbers only and no mailbox for example: your 10-digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please note the 1 WEP key as it comes to the security key for the wireless network...

Now let's see if you can locate your wireless network and try to connect...

  • Satellite P100-160 refuses to connect to my router 3Com with WPA - PSK

Help! My new laptop Toshiba refuses to connect to my router 3Com (f/w 2.06T13) model 3cWDR100A on WPA - PSK. The router only supports TKIP (no AES).

The laptop, a Satellite P100-160 is under Vista Home Premium with the latest Intel 3945 11.5.0.32 driver and I tried the version of the site Web of Toshiba version mentioned in other threads (and a few other versions also).

Either way, I don't like latest driver hit with content identical binary files and different date stamps or running of the anonymous installers that have not been digitally signed.

The problem is that non-encrypted, or WEP works perfectly, but WPA - PSK is not. It fails with a diagnostic message 'timeout for secondary keys. The thing will be very occasionally connect to the network without a timeout (before I tried to improve things with the last pilot about 1 in 20 attempts after a reboot, now it comes rather from 1 to 100). If I can be sure that the password is correct. When it connects everything is fine and stable with excellent signal until the first suspended and then the connection is lost. It's more than a little irritating.

I see several topics of doom similar networks to Vista support groups. They all seem to hinge around WPA - PSK TKIP and WiFi Intel chipset x 945 in combination with certain models of router. Please can anyone help solve this mess?

I've seen other threads of networking in Vista by users with this specific Intel chipset and my router model having exactly the same problem and so far nobody has found a solution. I checked the basics of knowledge (MS & 3Com) and tried a few plausible fixes, but nothing helped. I'm out of ideas.

It seems a little absurd to demote network security to make the latest PC works correctly. Dumping Vista (however tempting) is not an option.

Thanks for any suggestions or diagnostics.

    Kind regards
    Martin Brown

    Hello Martin

As you can see this is not Toshiba specific stuff and if there is no 'global solution' I don't really know what Toshiba should do about it. As you all know it should support hardware and software (driver), but if not I don't really see a solution for this.
Who should offer a solution? Toshiba or Intel?  :|

    Hello Dprice-crc,

Check if you have the latest drivers installed for your network card. You can visit the computer or the Web site of the manufacturer of the device to see if you have the latest drivers installed for your network card.

Try to reset the TCP/IP stack:

To reset the stack TCP/IP go to this article and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

If nothing works, try to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter.
    ========================
    1. click on start. In the start search box type "devmgmt.msc", and then press ENTER.
    2. expand "Network adapters", double-click the entry for the wireless network device.
    3. click on the "Driver" tab, click "Uninstall".
    4. click on start. In the start search box type "appwiz.cpl", and then press ENTER.
5 remove the entries related to the wireless network adapter.

Reinstall the driver with your driver CD. After installation, create the connection.

Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the driver from Device Manager, then go to the computer or the device factory site download the latest driver for your network card and install it.

You can read the article that will give you all the steps to troubleshoot network connectivity issues:

  • Remote Desktop having problems connecting Surface RT to Win 8 portable Pro (new installation)

    Remote Desktop/RemoteApp problems

I was not able to connect outside of the network.

I sprung several days trying to solve this problem by myself, then on the phone with Microsoft productivity, and some of them aren't yet familiar with Surface RT. So with the RD in network connection is quite simple and effective, I hope some people here can confirm that they have the same problems or possible solutions.

As I see it, there are 3 interfaces where we can connect to RD on the Surface RT: Pre-installe Remote Desktop Office found via scanning and research, the metro downloadable RemoteApp and desktop remotely via the control panel).

I see where ping command is executed on the computer and port 3389 is open and oriented to the laptop, so I will state the problems I see with each when I try to log on a Windows 8:

    (1) pre-installed RD:

It's great and the name of your computer is there for you and connected to your account and network ready. You have options like "Connect and don't warn me if server authentication fails" I think has helped many people on Windows Server with certificate problems.

Off-grid on Surface RT, however, you get «Remote desktop cannot find the computer _.» This may mean that '_' does not belong to the specified network. Check the computer name and the domain you are trying to connect to."

    (2) metro UI:

It seems to do a ping the computer more quickly when you put: 3389 at the end of your IP address. However, no success after having tried with and without the end of the port. The messages I get are...

    RemoteApp 3):

This is the solution I've seen in most tutorials,... but the reason given for not connecting, it is "the remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate."

Instead of the option to bypass (which option 1 gives you), there is no other choice, and he says "Windows is unable to continue setting up this connection. Contact the administrator of your workplace. »

This message made me to learn more about the certificates that I always wanted to know. I tried to start MMC and ensuring that the cert listed in Remote Desktop has been copied to the folders of the confidence of the authorities certificate root (duplex as certificates on the local computer). I tried different combinations and did not really anywhere.

If someone connects via #3, please post care on your certificate if you can find it.

Any help on getting one of these methods to work is appreciated. It puts naked repeat that port 3389 is listed as open on my home network, the traffic is transferred to the correct PC and all firewalls are disabled until I can solve this problem.
