  ESXi is very demanding and specific with regard to the material. There is a very short list and I do not think that your software is on the supported list. You may be able to get hardware not supported for installation, but you must work there. I would look on the site http://vm-help.com for possible solutions for your hardware not supported.

• Problem with shell command authorization

  I came across this issue with ACS 3.1 and 3.2 of the ACS

  A shell command authorization set is created under the profile shared with the following components:

  Unmatched orders: refuse

  Permit of unmatched Args: UNCHECKED

  The order authorized is 'show' with the Arg "worm permit", "allow the interface" and "allowed to run.

  This permission set is then applied to the group, under the option "Assign a Shell command authorization on any device on the network."

  Select this group option is set to 'Max privilege for any customer of AAA, level 15.

  This configuration is then tested against two IOS switches, with orders from aaa as follows:

  AAA new-model

  AAA authentication login default group Ganymede + local

  the AAA authentication enable default group Ganymede + activate

  AAA authorization exec default group Ganymede + local

  AAA authorization commands 15 default group Ganymede + local

  The problem I have is that when a user who is part of this group connects, it can issue commands such as see the worm, see the race and show int just as I would expect. Any command that does not begin with a show... is denied. However, other show commands that do not appear in the arguments of will work, so that some don't. For example, "show arp" and "vlan" worked, while "show accountants ' and 'buffer' does not. What Miss me?

• Problem installing VMWare ESXi on PowerEdge 1950

  Hi - I am trying to install ESXi on a PE1950, with a disk 2 RAID 1, PERC 5i controller config, but when starting ESXi image I get the following error:

  "Could not find a device suppored to write the ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 image '"

  I tried to get this error with little joy.  This server was not pre-ordered with ESXi embedded - that is the problem?

  However elsewhere that I've seen posts where people have installed ESXi on older models of PE successfully.

  Recently, I upgraded my ESXi host from version 5.1 to 6.0.0.2809209. Passthrough ESXi 5.1 USB worked without problem. I updated 5.1 to 6.0 when usb smart card readers is connected. Now USB smart card readers did not appear on ESXi 6. 0b.

  I couldn't find any usb tethering in settings of the virtual computer .

  We used to activate SSH and PuTTY to connect to 5.5 ESXi host.

  However, a consultant suggested allow ESXi Shell and access it via DCUI.

  Would just like to ask you what is the difference between these 2 methods of access?

  Accusing Shell of ESXi is available by using two different ways.

  (1) local access to the shell of ESXi is available turning and by using directly from DCUI (Alt + F1), safer, since it is connected locally

  (2) remove access to the shell of ESXi is available by activating SSH Shell and using the SSH Client such as PUTTY etc to access. Since it is remote access, security is a bit of a cause for concern.

  This is the reason, the suggestion to use locally DCUI is given.

  Just to clarify:

  You have an ESXi host.  Configure you a new virtual machine and install an operating system.  When the operating system restarts and tries to use in the host network ESXi restarts.

  Is this correct?

  Please give some more details:

  3. managed with vcenter

  4. virtual network for ESXi host and virtual machine configuration

  5. material the ESXi host is running

  6. nothing in the two papers that can help

  Other things I noticed are:

  Query the vCenter or a currently configured host setting works very well

  If there is a crowd of syslog configured on the host, or not makes no difference. Error continues to be.

  The format of < syslog > makes no difference, ipaddress, udp://ipaddress:514, hostname all fail

  I note that Configuration > >of the software Advanced settings > > Syslog.global.loghost in the vSphere Client of the Syslog is empty for the properly configured hosts. I guess that's normal behavior. /etc/vmsyslog.conf is correctly configured

  I have read the log files in/var/log/loginsight and do not see anything which is useful for my troubleshooting.

  Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Yes this is the expected behavior. ESXi 5.x support several loghost entries and to ensure that a user does not accidentally remove old entries loghost configure esxi requires a separate command to remove a loghost. ESXi 4.x does not support a single loghost and configure esxi is delivered with the f flag to replace the existing entry. You will notice when you use - help t will configure a syslog target. This distinction is important because t can be used for adding more than a target of syslog. For example, if you have a loghost configured 10.10.10.10, then try to add tcp://10.10.10.10:1514 then configure esxi will change 10.10.10.10 to tcp://10.10.10.10:1514 rather than add a second entry.

  2. configure esxi is provided as a tool for individuals to use, which is particularly useful for people who do not have existing scripts and exploit no profiles of the host. If you have an existing script or host profiles so feel free to use them.

  3. I assume you mean when configure esxi detected what he thought was a malformed loghost. Thanks for the comments, I'll make sure it is considered for a future version.

• Create the guest OS (VM) of ESXi Shell (ESXi 5.0)

  Basically I have a home linux environment (two linux workstations and a server ESXi 5.0) I play with. I did some preliminary research on the vSphere CLI and have a few commands that can some help me get started.

  I can use vmkfstools to create discs, I can copy an iso for the data store. I see that there is a vmware-cmd, which seems to be able to "setguestinfo" but vmware-cmd does not come with ESXi 5, but even then I would need to know what are the variables/create the game.

  No matter who this before, is there a way I can create a guest of the shell operating system?

• Problems adding 4 ESXi and ESXi 3.5 to VCenter4

  Hello all-

  I was not able to get any assistance from technical support or technical support of VMWare license. The excuse is that VCenter is too new to know the right answer. Everyone has a different answer.

  I installed the server VCenter 4 Standard. I want to run ESXi 4 and ESXi3.5 hosts. When I try to add these hosts to VCenter inventory, it is said, no available licenses. I added 4 ESXi (free) license the vCenter but it still does not work. By the way; I ESX4 host (Licensed) I have not had any problems to add to the inventory. The error is attached.

  It seems that the problem of license with ESX4i/3i hosts. I hope you are using the free version of the two ESX. Problem start here only. If you need manage these free ESXi by vCenter version, you need to have the permit for them, unless you can't handle. To manage these free version of ESX, vCenter agent lacks. This agent can be deployed only under license of versions of ESXi. Please see the attached certification for vSphere document.
