Problem Vista, hundreds of "folders".

having a computer network multi (all computers running in a workgroup) to our society of graphic and we use NAS storage.  We just added two new Dell 'Vista' workstations, a 32-bit and the other 64-bit.  If you create a new folder on the native computer, all is well.  But when we try to create a new folder on our NAS storage, the hourglass continues to run until you press ESC.  When we go back and check the disc, he created several new records in a digital series (eg. NEW Folder1, NEW FOLDER2 etc.).  He will continue to create folders until you press ESC (several hundreds).  If you create a new folder on the native computer, then drag and drop to make a copy on the NAS, it works very well.  Help!

Check if your NAS storage device is compatible with Vista (if this isn't, which can cause this problem - so you'll need either new drivers or new NAS for things to work properly).  You can check on the Vista Compatibility Center at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/default.aspx.  If the device is not listed, this does not mean necessarily that is not compatible - just that it has not been tested (but there is a good chance that's the case).  This would also explain why it is occurring in many machines and not just a machine (even though she did not explain if some of the machines were functioning before and you don't use Vista).

It is also possible that the configuration of the network for your NAS device is different with Vista, with XP (or whatever you used before).  Without knowing a NAS device, we cannot help you here with reference to experts in the use of this device.

Good luck! Lorien - MCSA/MCSE/network + / A +.

  • How can I load my vista e-mail folders in an application compatible with Windows 7 or XP

My motherboard on my HP Pavilion laptop is dead and he was running Vista 64 - bit OS. I'm trying to recover my email so I can read in a mailer with the files so I can just point and click to see them. I was able to recover the contents of the hard drive and copy them to my office. Unfortunately, I don't have a .csv file recent backup of email, as well as the Local folder, there is the Windows Mail data. I tried to import them in Office 2007, but of course, Outlook uses a PST file and will not allow these files to be dragged into the Inbox. My desktop computer runs on XP Home and so I tried to load in Outlook Express. No luck. I tried dragging the files in Mozilla Thunderbird Email, with unsuccessful results. If only I had a good index of folders backup my problem would be solved. Is there anyway I can import or move these folders in an e-mail application that actually do it, for now my only option is to open the individual txt email files to display. I was not able to find a compatible third-party application that can move or import these files for me. Any help would be appreciated.

There are two ways to bring them into OE.  You create a new folder in OE and open it so that it displays a list of empty message.  In Windows Explorer, open the folder under local folders and then proceed to one of the subdirectories.  Then highlight all eml files in the directory and make sure that you have selected the eml files.  Then let them slide over the emptiness of messageliste OE and drop and they get incorporated into the file, as long as they are only eml files (try it with a first and so you get the idea of how it works).

You can then do this for each folder.  Or you can get my program OEX (www.oehelp.com/OEX/) and authorizes the import into OE or WinMail in Vista from a directory of eml files.

It's probably just a semantic software feature to provide a warning message to make sure that you want to activate the device, because it can replace any other input devices that you have installed (even if it is perhaps not the case in your situation).  I don't think it's really a 'mistake' but an intentional warning - especially now that it has been in the properties of the executable file and then installed with the software (and you did the right thing for the release of the security to solve the following message appears each time you start).  It wasn't a problem of Vista or a mistake.  I think it worked as it was supposed to work (but why would they do it is really beyond me).

If you really want to learn more about why this security warning has been implemented, I suggest you cotact semantic Technical Support customer service or to the: http://www.synaptics.com/about/contact.  Unfortunately, they do not have a 900 number or specific technical support contact information that I could find - but there you cotact headquarters that you should be able to get these numbers, if available.  The only information of support they provide is http://www.synaptics.com/support and that doesn't give you any contact information (or he answered your question I read through it looking to see if the answer was there0.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello danielingalt89,

Thank you for visiting the website of Microsoft Windows Vista Community.

Try the rest of the stage in this article:

System restore points are created automatically when the following occur:

    • When you install a new application or driver.
    • When you uninstall or install some programs.
    • When you install new updates
    • Automatically on a daily interval
    • Manually by creating a.
    • If you choose to use system restore to restore to a previous restore point, System Restore creates a new restore point before you restore a previous state in case something goes wrong. If you are restoring to a previous state in Mode without failure, a restore point will create for the current state.

So that the restoration of the system to work, you must have 300 MB of free space for each hard disk that monitors the system restore. System Restore will also use up to 15% of disk space on each disk that it monitors. That hard disk space runs out, older restore points will be deleted as newer ones. It is also important to note that you must be logged in as an administrator in order to use the system restore. Now that you understand the basics of the system restore, you must continue to the next section to learn how to use it.

Restore Windows Vista to a previous state

In the case of a problem on your computer that cannot be solved by normal means, you can restore your computer to a previous working state. To do this, you need to start restoring the system so that you can choose the restore point to restore. If you currently have Windows Vista boot problems, you can use the system restore in Windows recovery environment. Instructions on how to do it in this tutorial can be found: System Restore using the Windows Vista recovery environment.

If you can connect to Windows Vista, you must follow these steps.

    1. Close and save any documents that you have opened.
    2. Click the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:
    3. When the Start Menu open click on the menu option all programs.
    4. Click once on the Start Menu Accessories group.
    5. Click once on the System Tools Start Menu group.
    6. Click once on the icon of the system restore. After you click the icon, if a user account control window opens, click on the button continue.

You will now be on the screen as shown below in Figure 1 system restore. From this screen, you can specify the restore point that you want to restore.

    1 screen of system restore

By default, Vista will be already selected the restore recommended option. This restore point is one followed a new pilot program, or update has been installed. If you do not want to use this restore point, you can click on the button next to start the restore process. On the other hand, if there is a more recent restore point that you want to restore you should select choose a different restore point and press the next button. This will bring you to a screen, as shown in Figure 2, which contains a list of all available restore points that you can restore.

    2. the list of available restore points

You must select the restore point that you want to restore, and then press the button next to start the restore process. Vista will display a window showing your selected restore point and asking you to confirm that it is that you want to restore.

    3. confirm the selected restore point

If you want to select a different restore point, press the Back button. Otherwise, you can press the Cancel button to exit the system restore or the button finish to begin the restore process. If you have selected finish, Vista will display a second prompt asking you to confirm that you want to continue restoring.

    4. second Confirmation

If you are sure you want to restore, then press the Yes button. Vista will now log you off the computer and start the system restore process, as shown in Figure 5 below.

    5. restoration of a restore point

When the restore is complete, your computer will be restarted and when Vista starts it backup will be restored to its previous state. When you open a Vista session for the first time after the restore, you will see a message indicating that the restore was successful.

    6. system restore was successful

If there are problems with your computer because the last restoration, you can return to your previous settings to ebb in the system restore utility and select Undo system restore by pressing the next button.

7 undo the last system restore

Your computer should now work correctly again.

With the help of the restoration of the system in the Windows recovery environment

    Manual creation of Restore Points

As mentioned previously, it is also possible to create manual restore depending on points. Some popular designs to create manual restore points are when you have your computer configured perfectly and want to save the State in case of problems in the future. To create a manual restore point, you must follow these steps:

    1. Click the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this:
    2. Click on the control panel menu option.
    3. Click the option menu system and Maintenance.
    4. Click on the system menu option.
    5. Click on the System Protection in the list on the left.

You will now be at the System Protection tab in the system control panel. This tab allows you to enable and disable the system restore as well as making the new manual restore points.

    8. the System Protection tab

To create a manual restore point, you must click on the button create. When you press this button a prompt asking you to give a title to this manual restore point.

    9. Enter the manual restore point title

Type a title for the manual restore point and press the button create. Vista will now create a restore point manually and once finished, post a notice that it was created successfully.

    10. Manual restore point has been created

Now that you have finished doing the manual restore point, you can close the system window.

Have you tried to make the clean boot before installing this update. There could be interference or a program context prevents the installation of this update. If you have please ignore this information.

    Clean boot

We will also test in a clean boot environment to see if this issue is related to interference from other services / programs:
    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.)
    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
    5. click on OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
7 log on to your account.
    ---------------------------------------------------
Click on start-> all programs-> Windows Update and reinstall the update you mentioned previously.
    ---------------------------------------------------
    To restore your Normal startup:
    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.)
    2. in the general tab, click Normal startup.
    3. When prompted, click on restart.

    This should solve your problem.

Let us know if these steps solve your problem.  I hope the information is useful.

  • Problem Vista MS Gothic, nobody seems to know how to fix it, please help!

    The problem is the following.

I tried to fire up the game by the name of the last scenario (http://site.scfworks.com/?page_id=9) which has held very well by using Windows XP. On my installation of Vista, however, loading the game with no police whatever it is - no words do not appear in any part of the game. The game creator is aware of this problem and has released a fix presumed (at the link above) does not.

The game requires the police MS Gothic, which comes with Vista.

Did some research on the issue, it seems to be a problem with the MS Gothic font in Vista. I downloaded and installed another copy of MS Gothic, as the police MS Gothic for Vista is a set including several fonts, assuming that it could solve the problem. This is not the case.

If I change my regional settings of the Japanese system (Japan) the game generates an error on load indicating that MS Gothic is not installed (it is) and the game requires the police to run. However, the game load - Courier New - text and seems to work as long as my local system has the Japanese value. If I change the locale system back to my native English (Australia), the game returns to have no visible police.

I tried to install MS Gothic, to remove and to reinstall MS Gothic between reboots and searching the Internet for several hours and met with dozens of other people having a problem identical to mine - the game no poster not fonts in Vista unless the locale system is defined for Japanese (Japan).

I (and the appearance of things, several others) love in this game without having to change our regional settings (and the reboot needed) every time we want to play.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for solutions, do not hesitate to answer! Dozens of frustrated people to would always be in your debt :)

You have a major problem when the manufacturer delivers a solution that does not work.

If this is not Vista compatible, read the info on the link above.
