  As Jim said, there is no way to bind the zoom level of the effect controls panel and the timeline. And you're right that zoom through the horizontal slider can be clumsy, lose the read head. However, if you zoom in/out keys, around here! The read head is properly centred.

  As for not being able to zoom in all the way, I never encountered this problem. If you can fill in details of the case when it won't zoom in completely for you, I'd be interested. However, one thing you might try is switching the effect controls panel to show Audio time units. In this mode, you can zoom in much more far.

  I went to a 3D effect with a layer of setting with striped lines. I have the transfer on these lines mode of "classic color burn" because that's the look I want.   This is driving me CRAZY.  I'm using Adobe CS4.  In after effects, everything works perfectly.  Then I go in first and import an After Effects file, put it on the timeline, and all is well.  I then add a key to the alpha setting and the picture goes black.  I delete the key (alpha to 100% of course) and it reappears in the preview window.  It is not specific to this project either.  It happens with any after effects file imported into first (I tried about 10 different project files).  I ALSO have this problem on my laptop.  My computer 3 However, I don't have this problem.

  If I have any overlap 2 after files of effects within the same first problem, the screen becomes black.  I tried to make the video and the video also makes all black in any format, quicktime, avi, mpeg1 and mpeg2.

  I discovered an old 'hand tinted' b & w photo from the beginning of the 1950s. I thought I could improve it in CS5. I have started the process but had to stop before finishing. I have trunk to save it in LR3 as a .psd and a jpg file, to allow more flexibility when I went to change it later. I noticed a problem:

  I thought that the problem was related to the original being a b & w photo but reduced it. Monitor is calibrated. both are in prophoto RGB. any ideas.

  ssprengel, you nailed it. I sent the image of LR3.6 (darker image) to CS5 via original edit in CS5.

  IMMEDIATELY, a missing profile WARNING popped up. I hung profile PROPHOTO and images then matched.
