Problems starting Windows Firewall in Vista 64-bit

I have a laptop HP with Windows Vista 64-bit installed. A few weeks ago, I started getting a message that the Windows Firewall did not work. I tried to restart it via the Control Panel, but it won't allow me. I tried to run tools of analysis for possible corrupt files, disabled through the System Configuration utility in the control panel services and rebooted, etc.. When the system boots, the message "problem reports and solutions has stopped working" is displayed, followed by other messages and ends with a message that the firewall does not work. I think that all messages are attached together as a resuly of the firewall issue.

In addition, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, which need to make updates. Whenever he tries to do, it cannot and still once, probably because the firewall does not work. He continues to make an attempt to update and will not stop doing so, even after clicking on "Cancel Update" when its window is opened.

I brought no changes to software that would have caused the firewall to stop working and can only assume that the question was created by one or more software updates automatic in the past two weeks, either from Microsoft or from HP.

All attempts to resolve the issue have failed, and I hope someone can help me without providing links to register software or driver that force me to buy them or not and can never help to solve the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated: it has become quite frustrating.

Hello

Disabling Services is not a good idea.

First, analyze your computer of viruses and malware.

If it's clean, or you found a few "junk" and it does not work after cleaning...

Open a command prompt, type sfc/scannow and press ENTER.

It must analyse the system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

This document contains more information on SFC scan: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

If this process cannot run or get caught in the middle or also shows a lot of errors and cannot fix. I'm afraid you're better to make the backup of your data and reinstall the operating system.

  • Windows Mail on Vista 64-bit.

    Hello

I'm having a problem with Windows Mail in Vista 64-bit.

I can read mail without any problems, but when I try to create an e-mail of the area where you type your message is transparent.

Everything that was on the screen before opening the dialog box "Create mail" shows through the message box and when you try to type anything in there, nothing happens, for example, you don't see any text?

I looked in the drop down menus to see if there is an option to change this, but I can't find one.

    Please, can anyone help?

  • Problems starting Windows Update now

    Hello

I run windows vista 64 bit and have a motherboard ASUS striker ultimate with an ATI Radeon 4850 (also ASUS) and a processor intel 2.4 ghz quad core Q6600. Yesterday, I downloaded the optional updates and recommended to my system, at the end of that my system went to restart that failed. I turned off my computer and the screen of the BIOS came to my motherboard. Then I have zero by default, the system and start the computer to the top. My wireless adapter no longer worked and diganose function and repair said he had driver problems. I did a system restore but Hat did not set my start-up problems. I fixed the wireless card drivers, but I still have problems starting. My Hibernate function no longer works, IE will be partially closed but will not again. Also the start of works that after I go into the bios post screen and restore the default values. Does anyone have advice? IM at a loss

    Hi Vanishty2004,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forums of Windows Vista.

Do you remember the optional update that was installed on the machine?

You may need to uninstall the update has been installed on the computer.

It seems that the windows update caused the BIOS of the computer to be updated, which should also address the issue of the hibernation.

Contact your computer manufacturer for an updated BIOS.

    WARNING:

Incorrect version of BIOS update may cause the computer to be unusable. Contact the manufacturer of the computer system administrator for updating the BIOS.

Hope the information will help. Please post back and we do know.

    Thank you & best regards

  • How to install windows 7 on vista 64-bit with USB key or usb hard drive

I use windows vista 64 bit on HP Pavilion dv9925nr. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40L ATA Devicedisappeared 'my computer' and 'Device Manager' list a few days ago. There is no upper and lower filter. Device is that in the "boot order" Start menu device sometimes comes for everything and disappears again. ROM has the power. Opening of the shutter. Device works beacause I copied a cd when it was clear. I think that this problem is related to the software. When the device appeared I also uninstalled from Device Manager and looked for a device change so she is back, but after some time again say aapeared. I want to try once by complete control of formatting and install the new copy of windows 7 and let see if the appliance becomes stable. I can't install with cd rom then how to install using a drive hard usb (WD 200 GB).

  • Saw the shooting of problem on Windows Firewall

    Hello

Recently, I had my PC infected with adware/Trojan horses and I suppose also rootkits. I was able to remove them, but my firewall is disabled. Could not activate in the Control Panel, giving me the error code 0 x 80070424. I searched here and came across this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/error-code-0x80070424-with-windows-firewall/ec3fc3b8-69ec-4b4b-a703-4b745fe6e8ee?page=1

I followed the instructions and was able to install the Base filtering engine. Once I tried the Windows Firewall starts under services, he gave me the following advice:

"Windows didn't start the Windows Firewall on the Local computer." For more information, see the system event log. If it is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to service particular 5 error code. »

The download link in this thread is not compatible or another problem? It is a HP with Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks for reading.

It's hard to say after a bad attack as to what problem is causing what question.

If you can, back up your data first and backup your registry database, but as a minimum.

If you want to try to fix the firewall then Microsoft Fix - sound can help - http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/

Click on 'high solutions' - "address security, privacy or user accounts" and then read and execute only the fixed 'firewall' see if they help.

Or some of those registry patches can help - see http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/misc-registry-fixes-for-windows-7-xp-vista/ 9, 10, or even 2 for example.

If you did not already then download, install, update (running as 'run as administrator') and scan with Malwarebytesfree.

BUT if the attack was bad, it may be a good idea to "scan" Malwarebytes your PC (to check if your data is clean) then backup your data and reinstall Windows from scratch and restore your data.

  • Problems after Windows Update on Vista wireless

It seems that other people have a similar problem, but I'll post this new...
I've been running Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba laptop for years without any problems.  Earlier this year, I started seeing issues after Windows updates.  The main problem is that after updates Windows, my wireless network is is more noticed and the wireless card (which was installed on the computer, and never had problems before) is not recognized.  I manually installed updated drivers with no luck.  The only thing that has worked is to do a system restore to a point before the updates.  The problem seems to be related to an update in general, I can't uninstall.

I find it extremely ironic that I have no problems with Vista until Windows 7 is launched. First of all, it's the wireless card, then a problem with a driver graphics card (apparently... which seems to be fixed now) and return to the wireless card.  Should I expect to continue to have problems unless I upgrade to Windows 7?  I can't continue to spend half of my day trying to fix my computer after an update that is supposed to fix the errors, but I don't like the feeling that I am forced to upgrade.

    Hi dabaum77,

From your post, it seems that the issue was occurring when Windows updates are installed automatically again even after the restoration of the system and that is why I suggest to restore the system again to a point before the updates and download and install Windows updates manually.

    Access the link below
Follow these steps to disable the automatic updates:

    1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then in the list of results, click Windows Update.
    2. in the left pane, click on change settings.
    3. under important updates, choose the option you want.
    4. under recommended updates, select the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box, and then click OK. Need administrator permission if you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Install the updates one by one and check the update is causing the problem to occur. If the problem persists due to a particular update, repeat the process and refrain from settling the problem causing the update to.

You can also check the update problem in Windows Update history.

Follow the steps to check which day caused the issue:

    1. open the control panel (all items view), and click the Windows Update icon.

    2. click on the link to view update history.

    3. to view the details of a single Windows Update-
    (A) select and right-click on a Windows Update list, and then click details.

    (B) click on close when finished.

You can also uninstall the update that is causing the problem to occur, although it is not recommended.

    1. to uninstall a Windows Update, you must go to programs and features. There are several ways to find it. One of the simplest is to use the search box on the start menu.

    2. in the programs and features, click the link updates installed.

    3. after a few seconds, Windows Vista will load the list of installed updates. Scroll down the page until you find the update you want to delete, select it with the mouse and then click on uninstall.

    4. Windows Vista will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall the update you selected. Click Yes and the uninstall process will begin.

5 depending on the size of the update, the uninstall process may take from several seconds to several minutes.

    6. wait for the window above will disappear and, if necessary, restart your PC. The update is now deleted.
