Protected groups

Hi all

I have a doubt in the creation of group protected.

Can we create two groups protected virtual machines in the same data store.

Thank you

Malar

Plan of stimulus can contain several Protection groups and protection group can appear in several recovery Plans.

I don't understand the following sentence:

I'll be able to place server 1 recoovery plan 2 also, to simply check the pulse of the server so that I can confirm this server 2 will rise properly.

Michael.

What is a protection group? After the addition of an agent for the basic protection, why again, we need to configure a protection group and to add each volume in the protection group? Can we take backup of a single volume without adding it to the protection group.

    Hi akhilms:

A protection group is a list of volumes that are backed up at the same time.

For example, you have a server protected with C:, D: and E:. C: and D: are rather small and E: is really very important. It makes sense to backup C: and D: and E: separately set.  To do this, you enter different values in the planning for backup (for example, C: and D: E: every 2 hours and hours).

The result is that two groups have been created in the background. Group 0 which includes C: and D:, and group 1 which includes E:

In the graphical interface, you may notice a thicker line between the two.

in the registry, if you access HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Core\Agents\\AgentProtectionConfiguration\ProtectionGroups

you will notice that you have the associations for the protection of 0 and 1

    Hello

    There are two possible reasons:

1 LUN supporting these data stores are part of a consistency group defined at the level of the storage array

    2. There is one or more VMs with disks on several data warehouses

Most likely, it is the second. Imagine that you have these 4 datatstores.

If you have with VM1 of disks on the XX_HIGH_DCN and XX_HIGH2_DCN data store, then MRS. could group these data warehouses. So if you have VM2 with disks on XX_HIGH_DCN and XX_LOW_DCN (e.g., OS drive and application drive) then XX_LOW_DCN is added to the group. A VM more spanning 2 data warehouses and you own all 4 in a group. Or you can have 1 VM with disks on all 4 data storage. In any case MRS. try to calculate a group of data stores such as all the virtual machines in this group can be recovered successfully together.

    Best regards

  • No VMs are displayed in the create a Protection Group Wizard

    Hello

I want to test a recovery plan and I (hopefully) set up correctly.

The two sites are connected and I set up the Mappngs, the records, the Placehoders and networks etc.

I had a failure with a Protection Group who had no VMs in it.

    And that is the problem.

When I go to create a Protection Group (with RSV) I don't see any virtual machines listed.

My VMs are sitting on a Lun on the production side and this Lun is mapped to a logical unit on the recovering Site number.

    The LUNS are Openfilers

Can someone tell me why I can't see the virtual machines or elsewhere the Lun?

Is it because the logical unit number is Openfiler?

This is my first time out of MRS so don't have a lot of experience with that.

    See attached PS

  • SRM 5.1 Add vCenter VM to the protection group

    Hello world

Add the protected site of vCenter VM in the protection with your other VMS protected group? It is advisable to do so? Thank you!

You must include ONLY the virtual machines that you want protected on the lun. These must be in one or more Protection groups. All other VMS must be on different LUNS.

  • Protection group virtual machines do not have consistent snapshop point in time using vSphere replication

As the title, we feel when capturing instant timestamp for virtual machines in a protection group.

Which means a group of database servers, applications, and others, when drill us test to start the virtual machines in the recovering site files timestamp in the virtual machines are varied.

Snapshot work is executed simultaneously for all virtual machines in the group when planning replication hit? Or is it because certain virtual machines (like DB) speak more time to complete the snapshot so than others like apps VM completed early?

Anyone hit this problem? We use vSphere replication instead of array based replication.

    Thanks /.

    Hello

It is a behavior expected with current versions of vSphere replication - replication source host Scheduler is not aware of any grouping of virtual machines and starts the replica instance to meet the RPO requirements. The decision when to start a new instance is based on the time of loading and transfer to some of the previous instances.

Multi-vm coherence is on the roadmap for a future release and will describe what exactly you address issues.

If you use VR 5.5, you may use multiple points depending on the time (JEREMIAH) and after switching some of the old machines instances (represented by VM snapshots) to match the State of the other machines.

  • Configuration Error protection group

    Hello

I'm running two vCenters, organized primary (protected site) and the other is my dedicated website of DR.  I use RV replication on all my virtual machines in the main site.  When I open up to Site recovery and click replication vSphere all my virtual machines seem to have replicated successfully, as shown in the screenshot.

    Untitled.jpg

When I try to protect virtual machines with the help of a protection group, I get the error message below, which seems to indicate that replication is not working properly, however as you can see on the screenshot below replication doesn't seem to be a problem.  I also checked the files of the virtual machine appear in the target on the DR site data store.

    Untitled2.jpg

I'm under vCenter 5.1 on two sites and MRS. 5.1 with RV replication.

Any ideas where I can start troubleshooting?

This question seems has been resolved by the removal of the protection group and start again.  Work now.

    Hi friends,

  • All protected LUNS must be identified separately within the Group of Protection of SRM. But this isn't the case!

    Hello

I installed the latest version of SRM in our environment. We have 2 IBM midsize v7000 storage on primary site and disaster. We use array based replication.

I have configured groups of consistency for all LUNs replicated through v7000 storage.  All LUNS are replicated successfully. I installed the last IBM midsize SRA on two SRM server. There is no problem...

    Everything is ok. But; When I try to create protection MIS group, I couldn't see LUN separately. If you look at the images below, you will understand what I mean;

I have four different coherent group on v7000.

    3.jpg

The SRA has been installed successfully.

    1.jpg

I see all the cohesive group of v7000 under the SRA through SRM.

    2.jpg

IT'S MY PROBLEM! All LUNS must be separately! But I see a group of data store! It must be like on the right side. I want to create different Protection Group all LUNS. But I couldn't choose lun separately.

    who knows what is wrong?

    4.jpg

    Thank you.

Check if any of your virtual machines have VMDK on all LUNS, because you'll be able to create a Protection Group separately for each single logic unit number if a virtual have virtual disks on more than one logical unit number.

  • Any use of the SRM group queryvmprotection protection method?

I am trying to find a list of VMS protected status, in particular the statutes, which are problems (lack the hard drive for example).

Usually this appears in the Protection Group-> VMS as ' device not found: hard drive X.

Looking through the api, queryvmprotection method of protection groups can have a "field of situation.

I used the BenMeadowcroft function to get the protectiongroup and then tried to pass moref a vm in the method

    SE connect-VIServer < vcserver >

    Connect-srmserver

    $pgs = get-ProtectionGroup

    $vm = get - VM, vm >

    $pgs [0] .queryvmprotection (@($vm.) ExtensionData.MoRef))

    I get the following error.

Exception by calling 'QueryVmProtection' with '1' arguments: "value cannot be null."

    ' Parameter name: collection.

    C:\Users\ < myusername > \Desktop\funcs.ps1.ps1:452 char: 26

    + $pgs [0] .queryvmprotection < < < < (@($vm.) ExtensionData.MoRef))

    + CategoryInfo: NotSpecified: (:)) [], MethodInvocationException)

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId: DotNetMethodException

I tried passing the moref on its own (which is not part of an array) with the same error.

    Anyone have success with queryvmprotection?

If the previous tests were my lab environment, which is installed in a shared site. I think that some of these APIs don't play well with the shared site (I had problems with the vm protect as well but not unprotect).

In production, I did the same thing as above. With the virtual machine which should already have good configuration, it gave me the error about the collection. With the virtual machine which was really not configured, he said 'needsconfiguration' when checking for the virtual machine against the protectiongroup (as expected).

I think I'm OK for now, I hope that the API works best with shared site in the future (maybe need a flag - remoteserver for connect-srm)?

  • Protection of RV replication group saw no VM

OK, I set up all my inventory maps, resources and warehouses of data placeholder without any problem.  I have 4 VM protected successfully with replication is enabled for all drives, but when I create a Protection Group, it does not show all for the protection of the VM.

I followed all the steps I could find, but have no idea what is the problem.

    Help please!

If it's the same problem I had then

    Disconnect the vSphere client

Restart the service on the two vCenters SRM Server

    and try again.

Let me know how you go.

  • SRM protected VM SVM

    Hello

We must extend the disk space for 1 protégé of the virtual computer running in the 800 GB replicated data store, which is running on the space. Currently there are 3 VMs in the data store. Our storage team has decided to provide more great replicated LUN size 1 TB, so that we can SVM all 3 protected again replicated VM DS (1 to) and then to increase disk space. Once all the 3 VM migrated to the new 1 TB lun and then storage team will claim the old replicated lun. What happens if we move all 3 protected a new store of data replicated virtual machine? Please suggest how to proceed. Do we need to make changes if we a small yellow triangle associated in the protection group.  Thank you

    vm2014

Once connected to vCenter, go to the home page-> Solutions-> Site Recovery Manager-> Protection groups and select the Protection Group for the virtual machines that you moved, from Control Panel, click on modify Protection Group... Follow the instructions in the wizard, and select the newly added data store.

  • Protection of unique virtual machine with SRM

    Hello

I am new to SRM so please guide me, I Site A and Site B, the two sites has 4 to LUN with SAN EMS replication, this LUN has 4 virtual machines, (A, B, C, D), as does the replication SAN and that LUN is protected, Protection Group covers all 4 VM, if one of my VM falls down on the main site I can only start that failure on site rather count all 4 virtual machines of the failover.

Please someone have an idea on what happened here?

It was me - stupid self - but also a nasty Bug in SRM 5.5

I have a few virtual machines configured with access rights only for me (my AD-domain account) and to all others, including all vsphere.local NOT ACCESS.

It is therefore correct that SRM can not read on their inventorymappings and thus not be able to protect them.

I gave the account MRS. rights of access and the error disappeared.

But: That the SRM service itself dies on is not a behavior that I expect in this situation.

    Seems to be a bug.

    ... resolved with the workaround...
