Protection Mode change Data Guard.

Experts,

Ask your entries on the Data Guard protection mode change, below, is our environment:

BECAUSE with two nodes: primary
Single stand-alone Server DB: Eve
Apply real-time: enabled

For the primary and Standby databases, it's protection guard data display "Maximum Performance" mode. According to our needs, we would go for "maximum availability". I can go ahead and change, however I have questions in mind before making the change.

1. do I need to change the protection on both primary & standby mode?
2. do on DB primary change automatically the standby mode too?
3. If the answer is NO to the 2nd question, I need to change the mode of protection to standby also? In the otherwise, primary and Standby will be run in two different modes.

Please let us know of your entries.

Thank you

Crazy.

I'm really happy that it works. Only ORA-16198 has very little information about it.

And its raining in the North tonight so I have to escape before it turns me on.

Best regards

Subsequently

Is equivalent to checking. Hoping no news is good news.

I've seen this thing before restarting. Last weekend was indeed an Oracle 10 bark at me during the installation of the entire network has been good. Another error, but I finally tried the same thing and it worked also. No complete sense to me, you would think that the listener would govern. And then it takes the real is what's real.

  • Level of protection in Data Guard

    Hi, someone at - it no indication to the following questions

    Q1. What is the difference between v$ database.protection_mode and v$ database.protection_level?

    Oracle documentation indicates the protection_level is an aggregate - what it really means when it comes to protection?

    If I have 3 Standby each using a level of protection different MAX PROTECTION, MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY and PERFORMANCE of MAX, which is the aggregate?

    Q2. Where the sum appears that in v$ database.protection_level of the primary?

    I've never seen protection_mode and protection_level showing a different value - someone has seen this?

    Q3. The literature seems to suggest that v$ database.protection_mode on the primary is meaningless, because it is the value of intelligence that indicates the mode of protection between the primary and this particular expectation?

    Q4. Document 10 gr 2 best practices for several databases Eve in Appendix D, p33, made the following statement

    "Regardless of how many databases on hold, you can have in your configuration, you specify only a single configuration protection mode"

    That's probably the problem? You can have a sleep using MAX PROTECTION and another using MAX AVAILABILITY!

    clearly greatly appreciated

    I don't think that they will have different values, maybe they can in rare cases. I have not met this scenario.

  • 100% ram used on Data-Guard

    Hello

    We test our application with Oracle data guard.
    Is version of Oracle 11 g R2 (11.2.0.2)
    The configuration of data-guard is a primary and a physical standby server.
    Both servers have 16 GB of RAM. It is set on an ESX Server as two virtual machines.
    Each vm has two processors with a speed 2127,902 MHz
    OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server version 5.5 (Tikanga)
    It's an arch bit x86_64 machine.

    The problem we see is that the consumption of RAM is almost 100%. (97%)
    Earlier, the RAM has 4 GB, believed is not enough and went to 16 GB after we found that same 8 GB is not enough.
    Even after setting the RAM 16 GB, entire memory was used.
    The demand for good results, the answers are quick enough.
    On average, there are 12000 inserts per minute in the database.

    The CPU usage is about 25%.

    We are looking to reduce the consumption of memory less than 80% so that if other applications must be run on the Data-Guard allows him to run or use nearly 100% of memory during the peak or abnormal conditions.

    Hello

    on Linux, high mem use is normal. Linux uses all the memory cache of the drive. You can compile this program to prove.

    #include
    #include
    #include
    #include

    int main(int ac, char **av)
    {
            long int n,m,i;
            long delay;
            char *buf;

            if(ac < 3) {
                    printf("Usage: %s  \n",av[0]);
                    exit(1);
            }
            sscanf(av[1],"%d",&n);
            sscanf(av[2],"%d",&delay);
            m=n*1024*1024;
            buf=malloc(n*1024*1024);
            // for(i=0;i

    and run it as follows:
    . 4000 10 a.out

    It will affect 4000 MB of ram 10 seconds. You'll see that once it's over, you have 4 000 MB of free ram. After awhile, this amount will be lower that linux will do IO operations.

  • Data Guard - allocation of licenses and other fundamental questions before setting it up.

    Hi all

    Please allow me to submit some questions about Oracle Data Guard.

    There are 2 databases 'authorized and ready ':

    -a single instance of the "alfa", Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2 database,

    -"bravo", Oracle 10.2 Enterprise Edition, Real Application Clusters database

    I have to "align" congratulations to alfa on a daily basis, so that--in case of failure of the main 'alfa' site - recovery is possible change to the site "bravo."

    (1) even if we can afford a loss of data corresponding to the period little uttered at the end of the last daily alignment (no need to 'transactional' alignment between the two databases), I assume that the best approach to meet this need in terms of efficiency and manageability consists on two databases including in a Data Guard configuration.

    Am I wrong?

    (2) in particular, the physical implementation of the standby database must be preferred over logic, because that "simpler and faster" in this case. Am I wrong?

    (3) only the Data Guard configuration require

    (a) additional licenses?

    (b) additional material/software resources for host machines?

    (5) the release of two databases must be equal to the specific to the component version number (10.2.0.1, for example)? Or, for example, is a 10.2.0.1 able to work with a 10.2.0.3 db db in the Data Guard configuration?

    Thank you very much in advance!

    You have reason, physical hosting it good thing. For the most part, you will get impact with until or unless data loss because of some problems of network (or a configuration problem)

    (2) in particular, the physical implementation of the standby database must be preferred over logic, because that "simpler and faster" in this case. Am I wrong?

    Logical standby is a little different from the physical standby mode

    (3) only the Data Guard configuration require

    (a) additional licenses?

    (b) additional material/software resources for host machines?

    Data features come with Enterprise Edition - perhaps for the active database "cost of the additional license.

    Good level to maintain the same level of oracle binaries / patches and still the support of heterogeneous DG

  • Data Guard - RMAN removing archive log

    Hello

    I ' v DataGuard with physical standby.

    I do a backup only on the primaries. Both sites have ther separate backup systems.

    I ' v FRA and configured archivelog deletion with RMAN configuration:

    on primary: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE;

    standby: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLY ON STANDBY;

    It works fine but I think what if scenarios and I'v qestion on best practices for backup after the transition of role management. Let's say that for some reason, as i'v in switch mode sleep for a few days and the backup will be posible to watch (now primary) database. What would be the steps/reconfiguration appropriate to do?

    1 should I reconfigure RMAN?

    change of new primary to: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE;

    change back to sleep again: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLY ON STANDBY;

    2. make full backup

    Hello

    1. you can refer to the oracle documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmconfb.htm#CHDCFHBG

    section: "all archived Redo Log deletion policy."

    Document provides the best algorithm to analysis of work

    You can use the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY BACKED UP integer TIMES TO DEVICE TYPE command to allow a policy of removal of archived newspaper. This configuration specifies that archived newspapers are eligible for deletion only when the specified number of archived log backups exist on the specified device type.

    If the deletion policy is configured with the BACKED UP integer TIMES clause, then a BACKUP ARCHIVELOG , the command copy newspapers, unless integer already exist on the specified device type backups. If integer are backups of logs, then the BACKUP ARCHIVELOG command ignores the newspapers. In this way, the deletion of archived newspaper policy works as a default NOT BACKED UP integer TIMES clause on the BACKUP ARCHIVELOG command. Note that you can override the deletion policy by specifying the FORCE option on the BACKUP command.

    The deletion of archived newspaper policy has also options specific to an environment Data Guard. , then RMAN can delete logs after they have been applied to all destinations remote mandatory. If you specify SHIPPED TO STANDBY , for example, then RMAN can remove log files when they were transferred to all destinations of mandatory relief.

    2. the paper provides good information, just to check and decide easily based on the functionality of the database role you can configure.

    It will be useful.

    What Miss me?

    You must create two entries in the configuration file "defaults.xml" for your ADR (formerly APEX Listener).

    One for db.connectionType and, secondly, for db.customURL, for example:

    customurl
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.world)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=DB-ENDUR)(Port = 1520))
    (ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.world)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=DB-ENDURK)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE=off)(FAILOVER=on))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ENDUR_PROD.VERBUND.CO.AT)))

    Reference: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E56351_01/doc.30/e56293/config_file.htm#AELIG7204

    NOTE: After you change the configuration file, don't forget to restart independent ADR / Java EE application server support if ADR is deployed on one.

    Also check if your URL for a JDBC connection is working properly and if there are any questions, you can turn on debugging for ADR:

    Reference:

    Directed by Tony, you should post the ADR related questions to the appropriate forum. Reference: ADR, SODA & JSON in the database

    You can also move this thread on the forum of the ADR.

  • Active data guard lost synchronization

    Hi guys,.

    I have a BD PRIMARY in a server and a STANDBY in another server.

    I do not configure these databases and I don't have too much experience with data protection.

    In the standby instance fal_server must point to name PRIMARY, as it appears in tnsnames.ora

    fal_client must point in standby mode, as it appears in tnsnames.ora

    In the first instance, fal_server must point to the name of Eve, as it appears in tnsnames.ora, fal_client pointing to primary name, as it appears in tnsnames.ora

    on the other hand, you must restore the automatic sequence 33-55 on the backend and fal then transport and then primary eve because of the resolution of the gap.

  • Data Guard: Primary descends from secondary crashes

    Hi Oracle experts.

    IM using Oracle Data Guard to the physical configuration of HA standby.

    I have primary with 70G of political RMAN and as noted flash recovery area size:

    RMAN > show all.

    using the control file of the target instead of recovery catalog database

    RMAN settings for database with db_unique_name MSEORCL are:

    CONFIGURE REDUNDANCY 1 RETENTION STRATEGY; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION # by default

    SET UP DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE; # by default

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO "%F" # by default

    SET UP THE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP BACKUPSET TYPE; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OF DATA TO DISK FILE TYPE DEVICE TO 1; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP ARCHIVELOG FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # by default

    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # by default

    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION OF DATABASE # by default

    CONFIGURE THE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM "AES128"; # by default

    CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BASIC' AND 'DEFAULT' LIBERATION OPTIMIZE FOR TRUE LOAD; # by default

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;

    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO ' / opt/oracle/base/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/snapcf_mseorcl.f'; # by default

    Size of the flash area is also pending physical (secondary node) 70G. and policies as described for RMAN:

    RMAN > show all.

    using the control file of the target instead of recovery catalog database

    RMAN settings for database with db_unique_name MSEOS3 are:

    CONFIGURE REDUNDANCY 1 RETENTION STRATEGY; # by default

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION # by default

    SET UP DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE; # by default

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;

    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO ' / opt/oracle/base/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/snapcf_mseos3.f'; # by default

    Everything works fine as long as the two sites are on the rise, & I have cron job to remove the archive log has expired.

    Now, if I stop the secondary node, the head node site also goes to error state & watch special suite:

    ERROR:

    ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only, until this just released.

    I checked the size of the log archive and its just Mo 837...

    My expectation is it should continue to operate until all 70 G are used. why he throws error so early? Please give me some advice if Im missing something here...

    Do you mean by reliable?

    It will be permanent if you apply via dgmgrl database pending:

    Change the property set of database my_standby_db Binding = "optional."

    See the detailed database my_standby_db

    You must ask it also on the primaries for the cases of change of role, but for now, you need to change it for the day before to take effect.

    If the archivelogs can be deleted are beeing shipped in standby mode.

    Making the optional standby destination will prevent them from beeing deleted primary until shipped it standby after the host is again.
