Protection - pop up box appears asking me to buy Security Shield for $80
I can't access my internet. Should I buy a protection? I get spyware protection faults. A pop-up window appears asking me to buy protection? Can you help me with a time of protection?
Well, there's probably no need to buy something when something else that is similar or better are available free of charge.
the question is what do you have installed on your computer Security Shield nagware grafted on.
you say also that you have little or no control over the computer, so you can have the scoop installed hostage.
what you can try is a test drive of your vista by booting it upward in "safe mode with networking"
then see if vista and internet explore in the middle of the safe mode behaves better than normal mode.
If Yes, then you can either run a restore point from the system or boot. (we'll show you how)
keep we deliver your findings?

I had to change my email, now a pop up keeps appearing saying 'ask your parent to sign in so family security can get latest settings '. Parents field Windows Live ID is prérenseigné with my old email address and doesn't let me get into my new address. What can I do to stop this irritating pop up?
Hi bobwilsie,
Since you have changed your email address, please uninstall the parental controls on your computer. That would eliminate the information for your old email on parental control. Please follow the steps in this thread:
How to uninstall Windows Live Essentials
If you still want to use Family Safety to manage your children's accounts, you can download the latest version here:
After installation, you can follow the steps described in this article to set up parental controls on your computer:

If I click with the right button on a program, and then click Run as and uncheck the protect my computer box that open programs very well.
Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.
You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type sfc in the search box, right-click to SFC. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.
Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Norton 360 on my computer identifies this file as c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll, Version 7.6.7600.256, Microsoft Update Web Control. Why should I install this file, if it is a real file everytime I open Microsoft Update? Is not install that once is enough to still be log-ons on Microsoft Update?
Yes, it's legitimate.

I tried to download Firefox without success.
I hit the download button and, normally, a pop-up window appears asking me to open or save the file. An empty box appears briefly and then disappears.
The problem may be with Internet Explorer 6.
However, I tried to update to IE 8 and the same problem above occurs on the Microsoft Web site.
I think that there is a little lack of IE 6.
Any ideas?
Thank you
SandraThank you.
In the end I had someone send me the file installation and it worked.

I need to know how to activate the box that asks if I'd like firefox to remember this password.
Normally when you install Firefox this feature is enabled by default. You can check the status in the Options dialog box:
the button Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) > Options > Security tab
In the second section, there is a checkbox for "Remember passwords for sites". These articles have more information:
- Password Manager - don't forget, delete, modify and import passwords saved in Firefox
- Use a master password to protect stored passwords and logins
Now... some websites add code to the fields on their forms to block the AutoComplete (which blocks also save connections), so that you can find some sites where Firefox will not save the password for this reason. It may be some workaround solutions, we discussed several times for Yahoo! mail, for example, but since they are long to describe, please post if the problem is specific to the site and provide if possible a link to the login form.
