Purpose of password

COES the password used to connect to the computer protects against remote threats, or only from people who have physical access to the computer? Because I'm not worried about my husband, hacking my computer, and I do not prefer the extra keystrokes.

Hey Eda,

Yes, have a password will help protect remote threats that if someone were to manage to your machine remotely, they would have to know the password to connect.
At the same time, however, there is a setting in Windows that allows you to turn your possibility of computers to be accessed remotely to.
To do this, go to start > Control Panel > system. If your control panel is set to display by category, change it to small icons so you will be able to right the system icon.
In the window properties system, on the left side, there will be a link that says "remote setting".
Click it and a window will open with the implementation available remotely to change.
Just uncheck the box that says "Connections allow Assistance remotely to this computer" and click ok.
This will prevent you system to access remotely with conventional means. At this point, if you wish, you can take off of this password without worrying.
I hope this helps.

    Just upgraded to macOS Sierra.

Now, I get an avalanche of:

"macOS needs repair your library to run applications. Type your password to allow this. ', dialog boxes.  They just continue to flow upward.

I tried to set the permissions on the House and the library directories, by doing a Get Info-> sharing and Permissions-> select user-> select Read & Write-> apply to what's included...

This seems to set the permissions that you expect.

But Safari can't download files in my downloads folder.  Other changes to the settings in other applications.  Do not seem to hold.

is ios10.0.1 - necessary to show wifi password in clear text? Why? Now I have to worry about pwd wifi being exposed to anyone who uses my phone. I can give them the phone to use for other purposes, but not at the risk of password exposure. This is a security hole.

It's just for the personal hotspot. It is not reveal your password to other wifi wifi that connect. The personal hotspot, it must show for you to know what password to use to connect to it with other devices.

  • Permanently locked, apparently appleid password

So here's my problem: I can connect on the Apple site using my appleID, no problem. What I can't do, is sign in the app store or itunes. As in, my password does not WORK for these purposes. When I try, it says that "my account has been blocked for security reasons. To unlock it, you must verify your identity. "I click on"unlock the account"and it just wonder if I want to change my password via e-mail or security issues, but it'S NOT HELPING. I changed my password to a whole bunch of times, and it WILL NOT unlock my account. I wrote to the support apple several times, and he has been extremely useless: for the most part, they do not respond, and when they do, it's tell me to do the thing that I'VE ALREADY DONE SEVERAL TIMES. Apparently, I'm unable to adequately convey the nature of the problem.

This is just speculation, but it could have something to with the fact that I had a stolen tablet a few months back. This may possibly have triggered Apple overactive security. In addition, there is some confusion about where I should go ask for help: Yes, I'm in Indonesia, but I am an American with a computer purchased American using the American versions of all programs.

    Help would be very appreciated.

  • software password methods (and keychain)

I try to refine my use of passwords on my different computers and I wonder if someone wouldn't mind offering their expertise in a repair tutorial.

the problem is that I have safari on a laptop and a desktop computer, and these are connected via icloud. I also have an iphone. no doubt all these are connected to the same (?) I guess that KEYCHAIN that stores passwords for things like Web sites and credit cards and autocompleting of personal information.

then I also have the 1Pass for mac software.

I tend to store passwords in the 1Pass software but also click to confirm the storage of the passwords in the keychain. However, I do not understand how it works, or if they are related or completely independent or what.

for example, if I pay for something online Keychain nicely stores my credit card data.

If I connect to a site Web plugin safari 1Pass stores well my login information

However, I keep a backup of my passwords in the software of taking notes that I seem to need it often (for example when the password in 1Pass does not work for some reason any). also, here are the passwords but not exceptionally safe passwords generated by an algorithm. I would switch to more secure passwords, but I can't understand how it worked.

1 1Pass doesn't seem to enter password in ANY Web site I have access, so sometimes I have to ACCESS the database and FIND the Web site and then manually enter the information.

2 1Pass does not seem to automatically enter the date in a website on the IPHONE when in safari (I guess that there is no plugin IOS?) so in this case, when I land on a page that I need to do something with - I need to BACK out of safari, enter 1Pass, FIND THE WEB site, then navigate to the Web site through the 1Pass app and then try to connect to the site. It is a major pain.

3 /if/ a password does not work in 1Pass and /if/ does not save the password manually in the note-taking software, what would I? I guess I reset the password via the Web site and enter the new password in 1Pass.

4 how the KEYCHAIN interface with all this? It even works or somehow, it works in the background? done only passwords autocomplete KEYCHAIN and connections in safari or he asks a guest to do this? If I do not get a command prompt to add a Keychain password can I add it myself?

    5. what happens in the workflow above when I use someone else's phone because my battery died or if I have to use someone else's computer? I guess I could connect my iCloud account if it is computer confidence of a friend and get access to the safari via Keychain passwords? I would do that on another iPhone? I mean, I couldn't do it on someone else non-iphone I could? and how do I enter 1Pass when not to use one of my devices?

    6. give the #5 question, it seems almost vital to keep a list of passwords in the note-taking software that is independent of the software (1Pass or Keychain). is it possible to export this information in an easily accessible document that I keep with me or print?

    Thank you

Given that most of your questions related to 1Password, I suggest to take a look at his support page here.

4 Keychain can provide auto-complete for usernames and passwords in safari, it could also before entering a username and password. If you delete the text entered, it will give the list a list of usernames under the name of user and password text field. When you have a valid password field, Keychain should see the a key symbol to the right in the text field, clicking on it will bring down a list of names of users and saved passwords.

    • You can add the password yourself.

    5. When you connect to a device with your account Keychain will be disabled by default and will ask you to turn it on in settings. Or even require that you select to use iCloud Keychain during the implementation of a device. And to turn it on, you need to provide confirmation on another verified device, or type a security code, or both depending on your security settings. More on this in the FAQ here. Don't forget, the keychain is a service from Apple and will not run on non-Apple operating systems.

    6. keep your passwords on a document saved and synchronized accessible via internet is a security risk and is not recommended. However, if you want the notes that can be synchronized and accessible from the internet, Apple built in Notes app serves this purpose. Set a password to lock your notes slightly sensitive data such as numbers of national identification and emails can also protect from prying eyes. However, it is highly preferable to avoid storing sensitive data such as passwords in this application.

  • don't know password

I'll put up a new iPhone and do not know the password. I know that my iCloud password, but not the password. I've yet to come of it in badly 6 times so my device is not disabled, but there is no content I can find here to find out how to recover the password - fair instructions for once your device is already disabled.

If it is a new iPhone then how already has an access code? Did you mean that you buy it used? There is no way to recover the password, which would defeat the purpose of security of having the access code. You will need to follow the procedure as if it were off.

  • Purpose of the folder "cinchonism.

I never noticed this issue before. It is located in the library folder. What is its use?

    Hello PhotoBug3L75,

It is part of an adware/malware program. Its purpose is to track your behavior, perhaps record keystrokes you enter, who knows. I suggest you remove it with MalwareBytes for Mac: https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalware/mac/

Then, download and run EtreCheck to go to http://www.etrecheck.com and see if it reports no adware or unknown files. EtreCheck is perfectly safe to run, don't request your password to install and is signed with my developer Apple ID.

EtreCheck can delete the adware also, but I'm about to release an update to improve this feature. It will not erase the recent versions of adware. I don't know if MalwareBytes will remove all, but EtreCheck can tell you whether she did it or not.

WARNING: Although EtreCheck is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

I have THUNDERBIRD for my email. Very happy with it. My computer is dead, new computer purchased Windows 7 on purpose. But no one can help me load Thunderbird because we can't find these passwords... they ask? Any help would be appreciated. WindowLIVE mail drives me crazy. I'm old and not stupid 65, but the computer is stressing me without end I received over 70 emails per day. I really don't want to give up my bellsouth account. I don't want to go through att. I like the look and feel of thunderbird. Help... Thanks in advance. MaryLOST

They are stored together... so you will find them all at once.

Tools menu > options > Security > passwords > saved passwords > show passwords

However, I think that your problem is more likely your anti virus/firewall blocking Thunderbird. Often, when your request a password that's not incorrect settings, it is anti virus did not cooperate. It is with ATT security suite powered by McAfee and Norton suite.

Turn off email scanning in your anti virus program. Component check and firewall allows Thunderbird explicitly. Car is not good enough apparently. If this does not work for you. Please add the troubleshooting information to your post

  • password Web form

    1. What is the difference between passwords web form, application passwords and internet passwords. Why a definition is not readily available on the screens of "aid".

    2. who is responsible? Keychain or Safari. If the ipad has created the password, iphone does not recognize it. If the imac has created the password, iphone recognizes but ipad is not. If you delete history or cookies on ipad or iphone, they "forget" their passwords even if they exist in the keychain. If you delete the keychain on ipad to re - install on ipad and theoretically get a new copy of icloud Keychain, ipad still don't "know" the password.

If you then manually type the password on the ipad than on behalf of Google, then he remembers her.

So, who's in charge. One could assume that the 'master' Keychain would not "cloud" Server based and available for all devices, at least for purposes of updating/reinstalling otherwise on a continuous basis but apparently not?

    Web form passwords,

Here are the passwords by the site that you visit, for example a Bank for example. They make the rules for their own site. Some do not allow your browser to remember for security reasons. Others do not allow it, so you can configure your browser to automatically fill those.

    password application

Not sure what you mean by passwords app unless you make reference to the duty to register your purchase?

    and internet passwords.

And, here again, not sure if you referring to having to sign your account from your ISP.

If you delete cookies, websites you visit cannot hold you as is the cookie that keeps in-memory settings. This is the reason why you should enter it again.

It would be useful for you to be more specific and give examples of what you are referring.

There is not a single process, which is "in charge". Overall, for very serious safety reasons, it can be annoying, but is better for you to need to enter the password. If they are all filled with auto, then someone pick up your camera would be able to have access to things and sites they shouldn't and can steal your money or identity.

This issue might be because a cache/coolie file is invalid or damaged.

If that's the problem, it can be repaired by disabling all the Firefox cache and cookies.

To do this, please follow these simple steps:

    1. Go to Firefox > history > clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is displayed) go to tools > clear recent history.
    2. Under "Time range to clear", select "all".
    3. Now, click the arrow next to details to toggle the active details list.
    4. In the list of details, see the Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything.
    5. Now click the clear now button.

  • Firefox does not fill automatic password which he saved?

It is a strange problem I have met only on a few sites. Always happens on a specific site of the game (quakelive.com).

In any case, I have my password for my registered account. When I connect, however, Firefox does not automatically fill in the login or password fields. If I go the login, it still does not automatically fill in the password field. I know that Firefox is the password, because if I go that wrong (as I often do), I get a window pop up with something like "would you like to update the saved password on...? Well, no, Mr. Firefox, I would not be updated, but I * would * like you to fill if you (what you do).

I've checked and checked all the basics in other articles; I'm pretty confident that all my security settings and password are correct. I rarely problems on other sites, even if I can remember what happens elsewhere before (quakelive seems to be the main culprit here, and it may be a specific problem with this site). I can always go in password manager and find it, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

    Any ideas?

I believe that this is caused by the site, some Web sites may voluntarily make sure you can't use her AutoFill, it is usually for reasons of security or anti spam measures.

  • Mail does not accept account hotmail password and now I can't reinstall the Hotmail account

I "upgraded" to El Capitan recently and for the last week, had problems with Mail does not recognise my password of the Hotmail account. I thought it would be a good idea to delete the account and try to reinstall the account, but of course he still doesn't accept the password, so now that I'm completely stuck, and other proposals of support do not work when the account is not to start there. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I have several accounts email for different purposes and it is more convenient to access throughout the Mail

I solved this problem by logging into hotmail using a web browser, then click on: EMAIL, ACCOUNTS, then POP and IMAP and POP options changed, Yes.  Try experimenting with this option online.

    Good luck
