Qosmio G40 - 11 d - can't read 4 GB SD card

Hello

I have the card SD Transcend * 4 GB (no SDHC *) and I want to use on the G40 - 11 d card reader.
Windows Vista (SP1) me warned of "the card is not formatted" but at the same time, this card works perfectly with the Asus eeePC windowsXP (sp3) (and other devices too)

How can I solve this problem?

Hello

As I m not wrong not it takes a utility of the SD card that should allows you to format the SD card in the Qosmio s card reader.

Format so first of all, then check if you could read this card.

Good bye

Problem is that older models of laptops have problem reading last SD cards with a capacity still more and more. In my opinion it has not much to do. Maybe you can try to install the driver for some newer model laptop SD card reader. Perhaps driver for A100.
I have too many M70, but I don't use SD cards. I prefer that USB keys because there is no any type of restriction.

The installed drive has a disc around her caddy, is that required for the other drive? If so, anyone knows where to get one (the United Kingdom).

Hmm all parts can be ordered from the ASP in your country.
I m not sure if it s a 2.5 just caddy or if you only a special part designed for Qosmio G40.

However, the authorized service provider can order this part of warehouse head of Toshiba.

    Hello

I have a question. Can I install windows XP on Qosmio G40. Will it work?
Suport page have no drivers for windows xp.

    Thank you.

Why not?! You will be able to install XP on Qosmio but perhaps you cannot use some features of Qosmio due to the XP drivers are not available.

If you need some common drivers like graphics driver, driver LAN or WLan driver please use part on chip manufacturer sites!

  • Qosmio G40: Can I use the infrared receiver SMSCIR with other devices?

My Qosmio G40 was a "SMSCIR infrared receiver" to be used by the remote controller.

I wonder if it is possible to use this receiver with other software. For my non polar, I need an infrared receiver to send data from the watch to the laptop. On my old system, I had an iRDa port, which has been used for this purpose.

If I can use the infraed receiver SMSCIR, I don't have to buy me a new USB-IRDA device.

    Thank you.

From my own experience, you can use the iRDA only with the supplied infrared remote control.

  • Qosmio G40 - no webcam with live Messenger

    Hello world

I installed Win 7 on my Qosmio G40 instead of Vista and everything work fine except the webcam that does not work with live Messenger (only) no matter what I do (I tried several drivers, re-installed Win messenger live, close some processes, etc ;) I get this error message:

'* Cannot start your webcam. "Check if it is not used by another program and retry."

What the hell can I do to fix this?

    Hello

I read a lot of discussions about the problems with webcam and messenger Ms.
The problem with Vista has been resolved by the SP1 from Microsoft Update.
Now, it seems to be that the same problem with Win 7 looks like a thing of compatibility

However, because the message says that the webcam is used by another application, I suppose that some background processes lock the webcam

You must remove webcam and messenger MS startup in msconfig.
After that, restart the laptop and don t start the webcam software if you want to use it in Messenger from Ms.

  • Qosmio G40 - 10Z - possible CPU upgrade?

What processor can I put my Qosmio G40 - 10Z? I couldn't find a list and the motherboard is a "motherboard Toshiba" without a template or similar.
I would like to change to a better processor, a quadcore would be well, is - it possible?

My Windows 7 tells me to change the battery, but the battery is ok. Google says its due to Windows and could be solved by the BIOS updated. I have the newest
Official home page. There is no latest BIOS available?

    Thank you

    Robert

    Hello

I doubt that the CPU upgrade would be possible. You should read this article:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

This error message is it exactly that you get Windows 7? Normally you get only a low battery notification, you need to Exchange or connect the power supply.

  • Qosmio G40-108 - prevent recovery of product disc ask to insert the disc

I have a Qosmio G40-108 and it works fine even if the disc is not read discs any longer, perhaps because of a motherboard failure that I replace the disk with a new of brans and it still does not work, but my problem is the following... I have the product recovery disc, I tried to copy it to a USB key and reinstall the OS from USB and the start of software loading a page with the logo Toshiba asking to insert the recovery disk into drive F: I can't use is more like it's broken. How can I prevent the disc from asking to insert the disk into drive F:? There are lines on the laptop recovery disk to install the USB without using the disc?

I managed to install a generic Windows Vista 32 bit downloaded from a Web site and my serial key works with it, but I really want to reinstall the original software
P.S. Recovery of product is for Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and just in case there is also a serial number of the disk GMR400766ENG

I don't have any experience with this, but I found an interesting article on creating recovery USB - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm

Maybe you'll be able to create the USB stick recovery. Check it out.

  • PCI Express Error - Qosmio G40 - 10Z

Yesterday I turned on my laptop and I got a black screen with the message "PCI Express Error"
I immediately started searching the Web that could be this error and I discovered that it is a known problem with some Toshiba laptops.

    http://www.nvidiadefect.com/Qosmio-PCI-Express-error-t383.html
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49108
    http://www.nvidiadefect.com/Toshiba-Qosmio-G40-12C-t1149.html

Some of the many topics that I found about this error.

I bought my laptop model from January 2009 as a demo in a Dutch shop called Qplaza http://www.qplaza.nl/

Don't think I have any warranty next to security,) I received store (2 years), but there are a few things I don't understand.

As I understand it, it's that there is even a lawsuite on this problem and that it indeed was a problem with chips from nvidia 8600. But then why won't Toshiba or Nvidia fix laptops with these problems?

I read my laptop have to go to the special repair service to replace my motherboard and I have to pay for myself.
And that's IF they can fix my laptop.

I started searching the Internet which could be the cost of price, but the answers don't make me a very happy woman :-(

Is there another way to solve this problem?
And are there not places where you can buy a very appropriate motherboard for this laptop?

Can someone help me please? My laptop worked perfectly and without any warning... poof... can not run more.

    Hello

I can understand that you are not happy with the current situation. Nobody is happy if the computer starts to malfunction, but it of not always easy to tell which is the reason. For the exact diagnosis, you need professional tools and these tools available only to an authorized service provider.

I get bored in your ad information is information about the operating system. Are you using the version preinstalled Windows and you have already collected your notebook back to factory settings? If not, you should do this to make sure that it s no software or driver that is causing the problem.

If it still doesn't work you should get in touch with an authorized service provider and talk with the guys what they can do for you. I m, they can make you an offer for spare parts if you need them and a good price too of course. Just talk to the technicians is that as possible. ;)

  • Qosmio G40-108 does not start

    Hi Gang

I hope that there is some good buddies out there that can save a window double glazing to be mullared by that lappy.
I had (Qosmio G40-108 with 4 GB of RAM) since August 2007. Everything was fine until two weeks about where it kept crashing during the execution of a couple normal progs that I use.
After reading several messages from buddies with similar problems, I think it might be the PCI express graphics. Is this good? I can swap out? Or advice, blaggs, ideas or suggestions are very welcome. :)

    * Do not forget: there is always someone worse off than you... *.

    What exactly happens?
Your Qosmio freezes simply and you must turn off or switches off without any warning messages?

  • Qosmio G40-10 s: graphics card problem

    Hello.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio G40 laptop 10s with a Nvidea 8600 M GT grafixs card. I was playing a game when it locked up and pasted what I would describe as flashing red/green 'Matrixy' search screen.

He then a blue screen and trys to reeboot.
He tries to start windows, but once again the top matrix. If it loads to the top, it is in 16 bit color with red dots all over the screen.

I am sure that the GPU is fried... and I was wondering what I can do? It's been 5 months out of warranty now.

I read on some forums that there have been a lot of problems with this Nvidea card... Is there anything I can do outside my warranty period with what there is a possibly faulty card in it from the beginning.

It will cost a lot of money to get it repaired, but its too good a laptop to let go to waste.

    Any help is very appreciated.

    J

    Hello

You also have these lines on an external monitor?
If so, there seems to be a graphics card problem and it must be replaced.

These overheating problems also occur if you use the nVidia display drivers directly. Toshiba drivers are pre-tested and don't overheat your system.

But I think you need professional help. You should contact an authorized service provider and talk to the technicians. They will help you! :)

  • Qosmio G40 - upgrade memory to 4 GB

    Dear all,

I want to upgrade my memory standard 2 GB (2x1GB, 667 Mhz) up to 4 GB. Clearly, I realize that only 3 GB (or something around) will be visible.

    * The question is choose what type RAM os and which brands/models best fit (price and performance-wise) *:
    (a) PC2-6400 800 Mhz
    (b) PC2-5300 667 Mhz

_Would the system use PC2-6400 800 Mhz or could it be underclocked? _
I read this thread (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=28634) and seems that the part of the wire on underclocking has not been addressed.
Does make sence buy PC2-6400 with a hope that with increased Mhz, performance will improve?

There is a list of RAM tested brands/models and confirmed as compatible by Toshiba for purposes of upgrade? _
The manual indicates that only authorized Toshiba RAM should be used, but I failed to find a list of approved... The RAM manufacturers offer different ideas (Kingston suggests PC2-5300, Corsair suggests PC2-6400), but I'd rather hear Tohsiba.

    * I would be grateful to hear from those who have done an upgrade if there is no improvement in performance! *

    Thank you all,.

I can see in the last 5 days nobody have written anything, and I hope that I can offer just my comment to this. To be clear I have no Qosmio G40 but I hope we can discuss on the upgrade of RAM.
    That said Toshiba? Not much.

For each model of laptop, Toshiba offers a list of compatible and tested RAM modules. For your computer model Toshiba laptop offers modules of DDR2 667 MHz RAM. 2 GB module has PA3513U-1M2G part number. I also recommend you to buy Kingston modules. Kingston offers products of high quality.
I don't see any reason why Toshiba should test all the modules available on the market and create a list. If someone will sell own products, they must test it with laptops available on the market and have a good chance to sell own products.

As I wrote before RAM in the manuals is being tested. To be honest I don't see any sense why use module 800 MHz on the motherboard with bus 667 MHz front end, if you can get the 667 MHz modules.
    What do you think?

One last thing: to comment on this notebook 800 MHz just processor system Bus Clock speed (PSB) is 800 MHz.

  • No output from HD on HDMI out port on Qosmio G40

I read the DVD HD guide of my Qosmio G40 "only the computer display panel supports display with treatment high definition. When playback on a TV connected to the computer, the screen on television will be only ordinay screen and not display with high definition treatment. ».

I don't know if I understand the manual right. He says that I can't view HD DVD HD videos on a TV even if it is connected with HDMI output port? If this is really the case, where HD to HDMI?

I am very disappointed in this respect. Or I don't interpred bad manual?

    Hello

I think you have misunderstood something.
If you will connect Full-HD TV via a HDMI cable to the laptop, you should be able to watch HD-DVD in HD movies.

But due to technical limitations, HD-DVD can only be looked at on a device at the same time. To read HD - DVD on both devices at the same time is not supported.

Because of the important data stream when a HD-DVD is read, the machine can manage only a HD signal. If two devices have been accessed at the same time, the machine must manage two signals HD, which is not supported due to the technical limitations of the machine itself.

Therefore, it is possible view a HD-DVD on a single device at the same time. This restriction is valid only for the HD-DVD playback. The normal clone mode is not affected.

So you can choose between the laptop or TV, but not the two screens together
